Jameis: It Wasn’t The Wind
October 29th, 2017Yes it was windy at the Den of Depression today. But to suggest the wind was why the Bucs didn’t win, well, Joe is dubious of that.
Joe heard chatter before the game the wind would hinder passing. Perhaps.
It was a theory that winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter fully bought into. When asked why America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was not sharp today, Koetter dismissed his sore wing and instead, firmly believed the wind hurt Jameis more than anything physically or what the Stinking Panthers may have thrown at him.
Jameis, who took the lectern just after Koetter, roundly dismissed the elements as a factor is his rotten game.
“NFL quarterbacks have to be able to throw in the wind,” Jameis said.
Joe isn’t sure if it was Koetter reaching to protect his quarterback, or it was just Jameis being Jameis, who never, ever dodges blame and is one to take more responsibility for team faults than he should.

Winston’s accuracy is terrible, good college quarterbacks would do better.
October 29th, 2017 at 5:15 pm
Stop pretending to be FreeFree 2.0…..simple as that JW3!
October 29th, 2017 at 5:15 pm
Blame the Joes for this loss and GMC and Jamies. Bring back Gruden!!!! This team sucks ballz!!
October 29th, 2017 at 5:16 pm
Even Eric Dickerson thinks this guy needs glasses.
October 29th, 2017 at 5:17 pm
And blocking? The wind pushed our oline guys off their feet too. Jw was hurt and noticably off cuz of it
October 29th, 2017 at 5:17 pm
Oh it was and has been the wind…..coming out of the media
October 29th, 2017 at 5:19 pm
It was very disappointing(in your best Lovie voice).
October 29th, 2017 at 5:23 pm
That’s why you build with pass rush, defense and a running game with a powerful back to move the chains.
October 29th, 2017 at 5:36 pm
I hate you! I hate this team! I hate you! I hate this team! I hate being a joke.
October 29th, 2017 at 5:40 pm
Sorry Jamies. Your a good QB and don’t deserve to have to run deep dropbacks against defence lines that carry steel lunchpails. The saying about getting thrown to the wolves isn’t around for nothing
October 29th, 2017 at 5:44 pm
Discouraged-disappointed. Somewhere lovie is laughing at the Glazer’s
October 29th, 2017 at 5:49 pm
He ain’t have a lot of help today on the oline but he was off today….GO BUCS!!!
October 29th, 2017 at 5:53 pm
i didnt see the game, how bad was the offense?
October 29th, 2017 at 6:02 pm
Jameis accuracy has a long way to go. Some drops today but accuracy is his biggest problem. Deciding to extend the play with defenders wrapped around his body is one as well. Fix the accuracy and a lot of drops, overthrows will go away and drives will be extended.
October 29th, 2017 at 6:05 pm
gruden and the glazers are already in shmooze mode…wake up folks, gruden is already doing his homework…and the guys on the current squad are already being evaluated weekly by chucky and rex

Panthers have a great defense, no doubt about that. But Koetter’s play-calling made it even easier on them than it should’ve been. Can’t even remember how many times today I heard the announcers say that Kuechly was calling out the Bucs plays even before Jameis was. When the opposing MLB who’s setting the defense knows what’s coming before the snap, it’s pretty obvious the play-call is VERY predictable.
Something’s very wrong right now with this offense. It has way too much talent to be performing this poorly. Even against a top-notch defense like the Panthers it should be able to put up at least 21 points, and should be putting up more than that. With no BYE week, I’m really getting concerned that we may very well be looking at a 4-12 season. Lovie did better than that … and got fired for it. Would suggest that Dirk Koetter start letting Todd Monken do the play-calling right now. Maybe he can get this offense performing where they should be.
October 29th, 2017 at 6:18 pm
We need a head coach who doesnt make excuses, like Jameis. This guys act is wearing thin. I hope the next head coach is a defensive guy. Jameis will be ok in the offense. Find someone who knows about game management please! Nothing worse than a head coach who makes most fans look genius. Booooooooooooo. No thats not a halloween scare you booooo.
October 29th, 2017 at 6:19 pm
Just out of curiosity…. where is all this Gruden talk coming from? Lol
October 29th, 2017 at 6:31 pm
Jon Gruden would be awesome, some credibility. I’m not sure about Rex Ryan returning as a DC. Then get John Dorsey who can actually utilize the draft picks correctly instead of wasting valuable pics on slot corners, kickers, and wasted tight ends and valuable cap space on free agency. I really like Jason Licht but he isn’t cutting it. The team is talented but not a winning team.

Bottom line:
Jameis Winston Wonderlic score: 27
Ryan Fitzpatrick Wonderlic score: 48
Play the smart one.
October 29th, 2017 at 6:51 pm
Am I the only one who remembers joes article getting on koetters case for taking them out of the windy practice conditions and moved indoors? The joes were spot on with that one. Nicely done koetter
October 29th, 2017 at 6:52 pm
It’s coming from this miserable fan base who wants to restore positivity to this team with a coach everyone has tried bringin back to the game. I believe the Bucs are the job he’s wanted
October 29th, 2017 at 7:11 pm
Jameis has been sloppy as hell with his passing in the short and intermediate game all year and can’t hit a deep ball to save his life or our team. It wasn’t the wind….

@ Defense rules
While I agree that It drives me nuts when Koetter keeps going to the well in the running game ,he was successful with a similar gameplan in 2015. But the Execution was better in the running game, because it usually worked. Can’t really blame the running game they said Martin had a 4.9 yard average. todayat one point late in the game. AS pointed out in the game Martin should stay in and block at times. Sims seems to be better at blocking to me. Believe thats twhy he is in on third down. Actually would rather see him on screens than either back or even Hump. Now about predictability ,Kuekly is a student of the game ,so I am not sure its all on Koetter But everybody in the league and in our seats Knows Jameis has favorite receivers when he has to get a first down making us more predictable.
But I believe Jameis’s execution is hurting us. Whoever is calling or locking in on the deep pass up the middle to Hump needs to stop. I have seen it bounce off his hands or pads too often. WE have taller receivers that go up and fight for balls. New weapons are not being used enough.Godwin for example should always draw single coverage because he is a virtual unknown due to lack of use.
.Jameis’s struggles with the deep pass ,don’t stretch the defense making us predictable.Jameis really needs a full time coach to work with him on this and accurracy issues.Team coaches are not allowed to spend enough time with him so get a tutor Jameis.

We lost five games because of over throwing balls to wide-open number 11

Jameis’ wonderlic score is shockingly low considering he was pitched as a high IQ football savant that had been reviewing coverages since he was 13. I mean I love the guy for his other intangibles like character, leadership, respect for the game and general want to. I am just not sold on his in game decision making or his football IQ. He’s got a lot to learn but he isn’t the reason this team isn’t winning. He’s just not good enough to win with them…
October 29th, 2017 at 9:59 pm
Bob in Valrico … I thought Doug Martin ran quite well today (18 rushes for 71 yds). Not a fantastic average (4 yds/carry) but run after run I saw him make something out of nothing. Far too often he was getting hit in the backfield (ongoing problem BTW). Our Oline has gotten quite a bit better at pass blocking but their run blocking has been terrible IMO.
Jameis was just flat arse inaccurate today. Didn’t see his usual zip on his passes, so I suspect his throwing shoulder is more of an issue than they’re letting on. Plus they said he only threw on Friday this week so it doesn’t make any sense to me why they didn’t sit Jameis, let his shoulder heal up, and put in Fitz. He’s shown already that he can move the team … couldn’t do much worse than 3 turnovers and putting up only 3 pts. This is maddening, more-so because the defense finally put in a solid effort today.
October 30th, 2017 at 12:20 am
The only reason I blame Jameis for this one is that HE KNEW HE SHOULDN’T BE PLAYING!
He knew he was too hurt & in too much pain to make the throws he needed to. This was just arrogance on his part. He is hurting his team when he can’t play & he needs to tell the coach that he can’t go.
How blind is Koetter and our fans for not seeing this? Clearly not the same QB we’ve seen for 80% of this season… Koetter should’ve put in Fitz in the middle of the 3rd and saved his QB for the rest of the season–also would’ve given the Bucs a legitimate chance to come back (because of the X-factor, we see it against AZ)
October 30th, 2017 at 12:25 am
Jameis didn’t have time to breath today. The guy was under duress before he could look up.
October 30th, 2017 at 2:24 am
Jameis has severe astigmatism…like my eye doctor use to say..there are no contacts made to that degree of astigmatism..I know, I am one of those people!!!
I sometimes have to wear a pair of corrective eyeglasses on top of my contacts!!
A man that squints as much as he does with contacts is NOT a good sign..I too use to fight this fact..but as I got older, I became less vain..

Winston sucks. Sucks with and without wind. Take him out for the rest of the season and watch how much better this team will do. If they keep him in, we’re definitely not making it to the playoffs. He makes our Bucs the laughing stock of the league. He is an embarrassment. Can’t throw. Not a risk taker. Punk. Goofy looking. Dumb calls. Can’t handle NOT being the star of the show. Winston sucks!!!
October 30th, 2017 at 12:48 pm
Announcers said he reinjured his shoulder last week, and that he was throwing very poorly on Friday in practice.
October 30th, 2017 at 5:53 pm
If JW’s shoulder isn’t 100% he shouldn’t be playing. Koetter won’t be happy till JW is hurt permanently. I have nothing against Koetter but he needs to be 8-8 to keep his job. If he goes the Glazers need to clean house, hire Gruden & let him be in charge completely. It will probably take about 10 mil to get him but they can more than make up for it by getting rid of GMC for starters. Just my opinion folks.
