Fast Starts Now Take Back Seat

Bigger problems.
Since the day winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter first arrived in Tampa Bay as offensive coordinator, he has spoken about fast starts.
And this season, when the Bucs have gotten off to fast starts (home games against Chicago and New York), the Bucs have won. When the Bucs have not gotten off to fast starts (sluggish against New England and boat-raced against Minnesota and Arizona), the Bucs have lost.
So this subject came up again Thursday in Koetter’s daily presser. He was asked if a new formula could be hatched to improve the lack of fast starts. As important as fast starts are, Koetter said they have now been shoved down the food chain.
Why? Bigger fish to fry with this team. Much bigger.
“The formula for us right now is we need to play better football,” Koetter said. “We need to coach better football. That’s the formula for us. We’ve got to do what we’re supposed to do more consistently. That is the formula.”
It is pretty clear from his press conference that Koetter is still stinging from that Sonny Corleone beat down of Carlo Rizzi in the streets of New York drubbing at the hands of the Cardinals last week.
Pivotal game in upstate New York Sunday. If the Bucs don’t somehow pull this off, Joe fears the season could quickly spiral out of control.

I think the notion that Koetter can’t call plays is just plain silly. Even Jon Gruden
has said he is one of the best in the league.And yes the consistency
and execution of his plays has slipped since he was the offensive coordinator..
But the difference was the offense was simplified so there was less pressure on
Jameis. As I recall they effectively cut down the area of the field that Jameis had to read.
I do think Koetter needs to find more one on one time with Jameis to aid in his
developement. Maybe some film study where they discuss what the defense is doing and how to defeat it. Same with the offense, discuss what Jameis sees on the field and what Koetter wants him to see. Knowledge is power and the more Jameis and Koetter get together, the better they will understand each other and finally make this offense run more efficiently.

You would be too if you were saddled with such a soft mentally weak set of defensive captains. one who is a walking excuse and the other who can’t handle or recover from a bad call or big play… but nice guys so winning takes a backseat to keeping losers happy

The fact this defense can come out flat for multiple coaches and have the same “key” captains is pretty damning. We need to hold all players accountable for effort and bench anyone that isn’t showing effort no matter who is behind them.

That is TOO funny, he is starting to treat these guys like they are kids. They get paid to play football and shouldn’t need to be coddled. He said there is MORE talent on this team than there has been in a LONG time. Does he REALLY know how to evaluate talent? This team is SOFT and has NO heart. How can you be loaded with talent one second and be a bad football team the next? This team is STILL a couple years away from having enough talent to compete on a regular basis. ALL the high draft picks we have wasted over the past 5 or 6 years is why we are SO far away talent wise. Giving away a No.1 pick to get Reevis for one year is just one of the bonehead moves this organization has made over the years. Wasted No.2 pick on ASJ and trading a 3rd and 4th round pick to get Aguayo. Drafting VH3 in the first round. These are just a couple I can think of off the top of my head. This team is full of excuses EVERY week it seems like, from the coaches on down. Playoffs are on the line this week. No more excuses! Playoffs or Bust! Go BUCS!
