Today’s Jameis Winston Shoulder Update

October 18th, 2017

Shoulder update

Joe will keep this to the nuts and bolts of what’s happening with America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, on the heels of him busting up his shoulder Sunday.

First, Jameis practiced today on a limited basis but didn’t throw, per winning head coach Dirk Koetter.

That makes sense, Jameis’ sprained AC joint needs rest, not work.

Second, the Bucs haven’t signed a new quarterback, so that should be the equivalent of a neon sign in your bedroom. If Jameis wasn’t going to be available Sunday, then the Bucs would add a QB and not let themselves be down to one quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and emergency backup Adam Humphries.

Third, Ryan Griffin, the No. 3 QB on injured reserve, isn’t available to return yet per league rules. So he’s not an option.

Look, Joe can’t play much of a speculation game on Jameis’ shoulder. At some point this week, he’ll throw the football. If it looks pretty good (80 percent? 90?) then he’s sure to play Sunday.

I would be very surprised if Jameis isn’t the starter on Sunday.

I expect him to have a great game even though the Bills are one of the top defenses in the NFL

  2. mark2001 Says:

Wausa… great game against a top defense? I’ve seen a 10 year vet adjust his game to compensate for the injury and do so effectively, with top notch receivers… it was Aaron Rodgers. Now can Jameis do so, without the experience? Only if the Running backs have a great game and Jameis doesn’t try to make throws that are beyond his present ability due to his injury. I hope so, but I’m not nearly as certain as you sound.

  3. Warrenfb12 Says:

They should sit him for the buffalo game.

  4. Seminole Bill Says:

Jameis should sit this week’s game out. After watching the game last week, it’s clear the Bucs are not a playoff team…maybe an 8-8 season at best. We’re another year, and a good defensive end away from playoff contention. Keep Jameis on the sidelines and let him heal fully. He is the long-term hope for the franchise.

  5. Wewantgruden Says:

I will buy Jameis 20 lbs of crab legs if DK does not start him. I just watched DKs press conference he is checked out. Acts like he is Bill Billicheck and he can only beat the Bears and Giants. LOL

  6. EA Says:

Ryan Griffin is the future of this franchise, In 3-4 years he will start for Gruden.

  7. Drew Says:

As Pablo would say: He’s “Growing some Bolas” and will play.

  8. ShutTheBucUp Says:

EA wtf are you blabbering about.

  9. ShutTheBucUp Says:

    Winston will be fine

  10. Jimmy T Says:

Maybe Koetter will stop calling for a long freaking pass on 3rd &2. Are u gonna tell me that Jameis has regressed? That’s total BS. Dirk Koetter has regressed as a play caller. Now all of a sudden Jameis is erratic. Against Minnesota, his only game w a turnover he was 18-22 in the second half erratic. Jameis doesn’t play defense. This team stinks because of the defense. Even if the offense is off we can still win if the D plays ok. Stop blaming Jameis, on offense Koetter needs to run the ball and sustain long drives like he used to. Remember Charles sims when he was a receiving threat out of the backfield ? He had close to 1000 yards combined a couple years ago. Now on 3rd and 2 we only look to throw longer passes. This offenses decline is because of the HEAD FREAKING COACH !!!!

  11. DBS Says:

If Jameis plays it will be back to 12 points and counting on the kicker again.

  12. Wewantgruden Says:

Jimmy T: Listen to the press conference, watch Dirks body language. He is losing faith in Jameis and is Probably praying that Fitz starts. Nothing wrong with a little quarterback controversy. Besides, Fitzpatrick throws a hell of a lot better deep ball.

  13. Pick6 Says:

wouldn’t it be something if playing wounded turned out to be the exercise Jameis needed to finally take the easy throw to the open guy and keep the chains moving? I forget which game it was, but after one of his train wreck games he came out determined to take what the defense gave him and nothing more. Eventually the defense adjusted and he got his big plays, but it was one of the best games of his career.

Maybe a slightly limited Jameis will be inclined to be a higher percentage passer, making the throws that a guy like Marcus Mariota has made to jump ahead of Jameis in many peoples’ eyes in terms of being a reliable, consistent triggerman

  14. Buc1987 Says:

I’ll bet my left nut, my 2 cars and my house that Gruden never coaches again…like for any team.

Peeps calling for Dirk’s head after him being HC for only 21 games look like morons to me.

Let me get this straight. If they bring Gruden back and the team on wins 11 games through his first 21 games are you going to ask for Gruden’s head too? I doubt it, or perhaps I shouldn’t… silly assed fan base.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

    Pick…. Mariotta’s completing 62% to JW’s 60%…

  16. Clw JB Says:

The game was 24-0 and your QB just got smashed again…he is the franchise, don’t risk a season long injury for one or two games…if he doesn’t play, no worries Fitz played/started in Buffalo, he is a good vet that can keep the O going for a couple games – just look at the second half

Gotta hope that was a wake up call game, they realize Buffalo has a stout D and they better bring their A game if they expect to win…

I am a bit surprised that the HC/OC hasn’t shown much imagination in his playbook – and his third down play calling is very suspect -where the heck is Peyton Barber on 3 and 3 or less? Goalline?

  17. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    😲

  18. DB55 Says:

    87

Are you referring to Gruden as HC, OC or consultant?

  19. gambelero Says:

Some guys are great salesmen, but poor sales managers. Koetter’s had a rough year (or two) as a head coach in terms of roster and game decisions. Not challenging the fumble at the end of the Giant’s game, “We’re going to roll with Folk,” when better kickers were cut or poachably stashed on practice squads, and punting twice on third and less than 5 at the opponent’s 41 and 39 yard lines when the defense was giving up 10 yards a play and 300 yards over only 4 drives.

  20. Stanglassman Says:

The kicker, Butker was long gone before Folk starting struggling to make his kicks. I don’t recall the Bucs ever punting on 3rd down.

  21. Wewantgruden Says:

shady will run all over the Bucs defense. Buffalo 27, Bucs 10. Bills D is no joke.

  22. Buc-n-Iowa Says:

Just my opinion but I think Jameis is fine. I hate to admit that I felt like they removed him because they were giving up and wanted an excuse for the loss and poor play. I re-watched the game a few times and he made some good throws after falling on his shoulder. If it was a close game I don’t think he would have out at all. Then when it looks like their might be a chance, he started throwing on the sideline. I think they have to make it look legit this week. Just my opinion.

  23. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

For the ones who want Fitz over Jameis…that may work some in the immediate but will be ludicrous substantially, there is a reason Fitz have been on sooo many teams…he is not the answer moving forward, Jameis is still YOUNG and can improve.

    WEWANTGRUDEN
and as for Koetter losing confidence in Jameis, well that would be to his own determine since it was his job to train him up!

  24. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Did any one see the painful grimace on JW’s face after the hit, when he was going to the sideline?

  25. Lamarcus Says:

Djax needs to go. He is toxic to JW. Remove him right away

  26. TampaTown Says:

Does anyone know if Humphries took any snaps at practice?

  27. TampaTown Says:

    Any QB snaps?

  28. firethecannons Says:

Let Jameis sit the bench–he maybe will realize that he needs to come out firin on all cylinders if he evers makes it back

Honestly–coaching is going to let VH3 keep doing his shet play and we will lose anyway

LESEAN MCCOY will also torch this supremely confident waste of a first round draft pick as he will pick Hargreaves lane to accelerate upfield.

  29. firethecannons Says:

Lamarcus–lets trade DJax for cb/de while he still has value (before the guaranteed to happen injury)

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Anyone that says he’ll have anything to do with Tampa Bay or coaching at all.

If Jameis plays it will be back to 12 points and counting on the kicker again.
    ………………
I start to get worried when a Seminole fan conveys this.

  32. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m not off the Jameis train, but I am a little concerned. His mechanics have seemed to regress this season. He throws too much with his base too wide and his whole body seems to be in an open position when he throws. I’m a bowler and proper form is the key to hitting your target on the lane. Same thing throwing a football. If he can’t repeat his motion he’ll never get to the next level. I think it’s mostly his legs. They look WAY too wide an a lot of his throws, keeping him off balance. I hope Bajakian is the right guy for him.

  33. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Another thing. He can’t generate power with his legs so far apart, creating the slow wind-up that he has to have to get speed on the ball. Fix his legs and the wind-up will go away for the most part. I think this is why he is very accurate on the run. His legs are under him and he is more compact.

  34. mike10 Says:

This is just going to be another excuse for Jameis’ inaccuracy come Monday morning…

  35. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Start Humphries

  36. Not there yet Says:

Winston at 80-90% well he’s not lighting the league on fire at full strength so there’s no need to push him out there against Buffalo with the division games coming up after that. Let him rest his bruised shoulder and ego.

  37. Big Stinky Says:

If he doesn’t throw in practice he shouldn’t play, simple as that. Let his shoulder heal for a week or two. If Fitzy can’t run the offense he shouldn’t be on the team. His deep ball looked better than JW3′ has looked. Don’t want to hear how Jameis’ shoulder is why he doesn’t play that great against Buffalo. Either way it’s going to be a tough game to win. Go BUCS!

  38. Mike Johnson Says:

janeus should sit and be the backup for Buffalo’s game. Don’t take unnecessary chances. Let the shoulder completely heal. Fitz will do Ok.

  39. Pawel Says:

Fitz will play and Winston will be back up emergency. – per my source

  40. gambelero Says:

Correct Stanglass, 4th down and less than 5, punted both times and AZ drove for TDs both times

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Third, Ryan Griffin, the No. 3 QB on injured reserve, isn’t available to return yet per league rules. So he’s not an option.”

Actually, he will be allowed to return over the next week. And they never did fill the roster spot after releasing Smith, did they?

  42. Greg Says:

Inconsistent and inaccurate was the news on him at the draft. 3 years later any changes? Are players really listening to his over blown game speeches anymore?
