Chemistry Troubles

September 24th, 2017

Dirk Koetter warned about this long before the season started.

And anyone with an ounce of football knowledge and experience knew it was likely. Joe’s talking about struggling chemistry between DeSean Jackson and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Would it take half a season for them to get on the same page? A full season? A couple of games?

(Sorry, but clicking in practice and/or preseason doesn’t count.)

There’s no answer yet because Jackson and Jameis are having issues. (No, Joe is not reading into their intense sideline chats seen on the FOX broadcast. That’s just football.)

Jameis misfired with Jackson in the Bucs’ opening game and again today. And it cost the Bucs big time, seemingly leading to two interceptions in Minnesota.

The fix only comes with more playing time.

What is somewhat disturbing is Todd Monken saying Jameis was vastly improved on the deep ball this offseason. That hasn’t exactly shown up yet.

Joe is not panicking. It’s clear that Jackson is having a big impact on the offense just being on the field. And he’s made his share of plays, including leading the Bucs with four catches for 84 yards and a touchdown today.

Despite those stats, Jackson and Jameis have a long way to go. And that’s very encouraging. If those two fully get on the same page, the Bucs should be scary dangerous.

    He’s not America’s Quarterback

They’ll get there. Koetter called in the 3rd quarter what he should have done in the first quarter LAST week. PI first call to DJAX then a bomb TD very next play. They started running DJAXs long and Hump was taking that underneath. Do that against NY and let DJAX destroy Apple when he gets his one on ones. They’ll have a chance.

  3. Rod Munch Says:

This is why you play preseason football.

This will come with playing time as you said Joe. Also DJax had a very nice catch for the TD so it’s not like they weren’t ever on the same page. On the 2nd Winston INT I have no idea what Jackson was doing there but they obviously weren’t on the same page.

It will all come together soon enough, the offense wasn’t of any concern today.

The guy spent the last 48 hours worrying about kneeling instead of the Vikings. And Evans was beating up sideline equipment. When not getting schooled by Rhodes.

  5. MattSpy05 Says:

    Last week…Super Bowl!
    This week…Everybody Sucks!

HOw about the fact they they played a good team on the road and fell behind early against a good defense.

    Games like this happen…

    On to next week…

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

That was a humbling loss to the Vikings, it really was.
Jameis kept staring down Evans, and Minnesota was ready for it.

  7. daveman Says:

Both INTs were squarely on Jameson, not Jackson. Jackson could have maybe broken up the first one but it was a horrible throw.

The second one, even if Jackson ran the wrong route was thrown into triple coverage.

Jameson looked pretty bad out there today. He’s not America’s QB, today, if there were any decent high school QBs watching in the stands, he wasn’t the sixth best QB at the Vikings stadium today. He does not look like he progressed at all from year 1 honestly. He’s making bad decisions and too many bad throws. He can still make some amazing throws into tight coverage, but show me something new.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t think it was chemistry, but rather Jackson still needs to learn some of the plays. There had to be an adjustment period. That will work itself out through the season.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Next game and players up!

  10. JP4 Says:

A ‘fix’ is NOT guaranteed with more playing time. A ‘fix’ will HOPEFULLY come with more playing time. Spin it any way you want, Mr. President, it won’t change the facts. At which point, you just deny reality, and substitute your own!

  11. daveman Says:

I’ll say this too. Our RBs are pretty awful. If this were baseball they would 0.0 WAR guys. Basically no better than the best RB on most teams practice squad. They did not gain a single yard not given by the o-line. They look painfully slow.

  12. RayJameisStadium Says:

Rod in the second int Jackson was bumped by the linebacker illegally and it was not called. That is why Jackson was not where the ball was thrown. This was share by Dave Moore in the radio broadcast.

  13. BucFan4Life Says:

Someone needs to thank Doug Martin for these running backs.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Are we continuing to try to find ways to excuse Jameis’ poor performance?

Sure, there may be some issues but this is mostly on the QB…..

The didn’t even comment on that on the radio, so what’s the big deal? I was very disappointed with the offense. The offense is the strongest part of the Bucs now. Good thing cos the defense got smacked by Buc Luck big time today. I hope the offense will finally jell next weekend. C’mon DK!!

Break a leg next game djax…..seriously….fk your knee!!!

  17. AlteredEgo Says:

never graduated from college….Jameis this is the NFL….folks….this is going to get HOT !….

  18. Rod Munch Says:

RayJameisStadium – I didn’t see the bump on Jackson but I believe it. The refs were awful today, they basically let Evans get tackled on every play and Jackson was being held most of the time.

  19. BucTrooper Says:

Jackson is starting to stink of Alvin Harper

  20. Defense Rules Says:

MattSpy05 hit it right on the head … “they played a good team on the road and fell behind early against a good defense. Games like this happen.” Vikings are a well-balanced team, in all 3 phases, and played a very solid football game on their own turf. Bucs biggest limitation was exposed today: lack of depth, especially on defense. Hopefully our starters heal up quickly. Also hopefully our offense starts putting some major points on the board and putting up some decent time-of-possession numbers. Potential doesn’t mean diddly; offense has to pick up a lot more of the load if we’re going to make the playoffs.

  21. Jim Says:

I noticed one thing, Djax knows how to catch the ball and get down if a big hit is coming. Humphries needs to watch and learn.

  22. Joel Says:

I don’t want to hear about chemistry. Apparently it doesn’t mean much to Keenum and Riggs.

  23. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Joel
Exactly… Keenum showed up today… Jameis dropped a log today.

  24. superd Says:

Forget Jackson, Evans and their disrespect for America!

  25. teacherman777 Says:

    D-Jax got into Jameis’s head.

When he complained, Jameis tried to force it to him.

D-Jax is a pretty selfish player.

If he keeps being dramatic and negative with Jameis, he will mess with Jamies’s head.

D-Jax wants the ball. Mike Evans wants the ball.

And jamie’s eyes his receivers too much.

Its gonna take these guys some time to get it right.

Pamphile and Evan Smith are both fat and weak.

We need to draft a guard in the 2nd round next year.
