Gerald McCoy Discovers Trash Talking

Something about seeing an old friend on the other side of the football drove Gerald McCoy mental Sunday.
McCoy explained after Sunday’s game that he’s usually a very quiet worker but the sight of Mike Glennon wearing black set him off.
“I think I hit Glennon maybe five or six times today. And I told him, ‘Will you please hold the ball for me? Please.’ I was messin’ with him. I never talk on the field, ever,” McCoy said. “If I talk on the field, I’m like asking guys, ‘How’s your family doin’? They doin’ alright? Your kids good?’ And I was talking to Mike, ‘Mike, I’m coming! I’m coming, Mike!’ And he was like looking me in my eyes like, ‘Will you shutup?’ You know what I’m saying.”
Perhaps this is a new McCoy? (Not that McCoy needs to alter his strong game.)
Notorious Bucs killer QB Case Keenum is the next starter against the Bucs, assuming Sam Bradford isn’t back in the mix for the Vikings.
Frankly, the sight of Keenum for the third consecutive season also should be enough to drive McCoy mad and ready to rip his head off.

Oh yes please McCoy get out of your box. That is all he needs some “Ayers” in him. Trash talking can be the beginning. Bury people and don’t help them up!!!
Stay in that mode until mission is accomplished when time expires. Now is the perfect time to get out of the polite box during a game. That attitude does not belong in the 60 minutes of play. This edge is what your missing to take over the game.

So much going on pre-snap. Protection coverages, reading defenses, dissecting mismatches….
Don’t change you for anybody, GMC, but I know if I was trying to do all that stuff in the final 15 seconds after the headset goes dark and the play clock stress builds and builds, and I heard the same guy who just pulverized me, sounding like a man possessed with me as his target, I’m pretty sure it would slow me a tad in what I’m trying to process or leave me confused. Mix in some late-shifts by Smitty and we may see 29-7 on the scoreboard for the visitors Sunday afternoon too.
At the very least, him barking over the ball would make it harder for the OL and the backs to hear what the QB and center are saying! There won’t be RayJay crowd noise this week–gotta bring your own, both pre- and post-snap!

Yes I notice he did more communication to the defense also. I’m kinda getting over w him but still hate the fact that he hated the torched pass to him ( he didnt want it) and gladly gave it to a rookie but moving forward I like to see more of that. It leads to dominance

Unlike some others on here, I understand that you don’t have to be an a-hole and trash talk to be good. McCoy is awesome, has always been awesome, and now has better line men around him and will probably end up with 8 to 10 sacks this year.
To me, hitting a quarterback or dominating the guy across from you, and then asking him how his family is, it’s pretty damn funny.
Better than trash talk, seems more degrading. LOL

Just because you talk trash does not make you bad. During my senoir yr in HS, a hoodrat talked smack to me and told me I was, to quiet to be a man. He made a mistake by making..the 1st move and I..knocked him out (I was a baller in HS). I’m still quiet today. Ballers just ball lights out and smile at you..after the game.

As they said on Hard Knocks – no one can believe Gerald as a bad guy, he’s just too likeable. That doesn’t mean he’s a bad football player or that is a bad trait – you know another player who was super nice on the field, that helped guys up, that didn’t talk trash? Lee Roy Selmon. He was pretty good. You know who was mean, would step on people, would constantly run his mouth? Dewey Selmon. He also pretty good – but not anywhere close to the player his brother was. I LOVE trash talking and big hits and unnecessary roughness (when it’s not called and the Bucs are doing it), but that doesn’t mean every player needs to act that way. Sometimes it’s nice to have a good cop / bad cop dynamic since I think it messes with other teams even more, and if the good cop is subtle with their comments I think it can mess with the heads of opposing players even more than if you had 11 bad cops out there.
