“We Know The Defense Will Create Opportunities”
September 18th, 2017Joe doesn’t know what the coolest thing was about the Bucs win yesteday, holding the vaunted Bears offense to a paltry 20 yards on the ground or forcing four turnovers in the first half.
The Bucs converted those turnovers into 21 points. That’s pretty impressive to do that in any game, much less a half.
After the game, Joe spoke to right tackle Demar Dotson about cashing in those early Christmas gifts. Dotson seemed, well, not all that impressed. Why? In short, he said the team has so much confidence in the defense, they anticipate scoring off turnovers.
“We know the defense will create opportunities,” Dotson said. “We know that every opportunity they give us, we have to capitalize on that opportunity. And we expect them to give us opportunities. It is up to us to capitalize on those opportunities.
“If they do their part, we have to do our part. That is what a team is. That is complimentary football. They do their end, we do our end. We have to turn those turnovers into points.”
Joe then remarked that’s an awfully high level of confidence in the defense. Dotson told Joe the defense has earned that degree of respect.
“We expect it,” Dotson said of turnovers. “Look at the second half of last year. They were a top-five defense. We play against those guys all of training camp. We know what they can do. They play hard. They fly around. They communicate real well.”
And the defense actually has added playmakers. The Bucs signed Swaggy Baker for beef up front. They drafted linebacker Kendell Beckwith who looks to be as much of a steal in the third round as Kwon Alexander was in the fourth round when he was selected in 2015. And of course, the Bucs added T.J. Ward, who rocked Tarik Cohen’s world yesterday with a bone-rattling blast.
That ferocious tackle even caught Dotson’s eyes.
“That’s what we brought this guy in here for,” Dotson said.
It really stunned Joe to hear how much respect Dotson has for the defense, and apparently so does the team. The way the Bucs crushed the running game of the Bears, perhaps this is a new standard for Tampa Bay?

Prolly lead the league in this category also 75. But check it,who was the cat told me the game would come down a single 4th qtr score. Implying I was waaayy off base to believe we’ll have leads going into the 4th this season allowing Koetter to rest starters.. Looks like I’m off to good start wit my mind.

Ya see folks, this team can still be known for it’s nasty defensive play.. Just nice having some stunnas on the offensive side in this era.

Every time I see you here St.Aug I think of all the surfing I did down there. Love surfing there and Ponce Inlet.
September 18th, 2017 at 6:42 pm
@StAugBuc Enjoyed it immensely. I love this team but I also know football and I know that that dline pressure was frighteningly non-existent, when they should have been all over Glennon he had 68% completion percentage and was sacked ONCE.
September 18th, 2017 at 6:54 pm
Thanks SB. Ima get ample rest man.
September 18th, 2017 at 6:55 pm
Hey Shouldhave………..The Bucs were focusing on stopping the run. If you know so much about football you would know that you can’t stop the run by rushing the passer.
September 18th, 2017 at 6:57 pm
You know football??? If the pass rush was so insignificant why is it the Bucs were able to jump out to a 23 to nothing lead again??? Please, help me understand. The way the nfl works is when you impose your will on team making them one dimensional they usually garner yards somehow someway in other ways. It’s usually “insignificant” for thembecause of the imbalance. But feel free to helpme understand.
September 18th, 2017 at 7:00 pm
If jumping out to 23 to nothing leads every week means no sacks,I’ll take that week end week out dude. Long as those “Ws” stacking up. And I got a bet wit 75 I’ll gladly enjoy losing.
September 18th, 2017 at 7:01 pm
Waiting on the P.O box number Blake.
September 18th, 2017 at 7:21 pm
Looks like Bradford may be a game time decision… Case Keenum tore them up last year in the lightning delay game… Hopefully this defense shows them what’s up this time around. The litmus test.

Chicago Bears (2014-2016)
• 2016 Chicago Bears (3-13) – Points Against: 399 (24.9/g) 24th of 32
• 2015 Chicago Bears (6-10) – Points Against: 397 (24.8/g) 20th of 32
• 2014 Chicago Bears (5-11) – Points Against: 442 (27.6/g) 31st of 32
Let’s call a square a square & a circle a circle.
The Chicago Bears are receiver depleted, garbage team.
You’re supposed to annihilate the weaker opponent.
But I’m not going to say I didn’t see flaws.
Especially when we’re going up against the Vikings Defense next week.
RDE *Everson Griffen
DT Tom Johnson | Jaleel Johnson
NT *Linval Joseph
LDE Danielle Hunter | Brian Robison
MLB *Eric Kendricks | Kentrell Brothers
SLB Anthony Barr
LCB Trae Waynes | Terence Newman
RCB Xavier Rhodes | Mackensie Alexander | Tramaine Brock
FS Harrison Smith
These fools have one of the best front 7’s in the league.
And go 6 deep at f%#king corner.
Now we beat that a$$ – And I believe we can.
I’ll be running around like a chicken – with his head cut off.
Until then I’ll marinate, and look at things objectively…..Yah dig
