Beckwith Shines In NFL Debut

September 17th, 2017

Star in the making?

If anyone was able to push through their hangover this morning and read Joe, then they would have seen a prediction that rookie linebacker Kendell Beckwith would have a solid game today.

But no one expected him to play middle linebacker.

Beckwith, the starting strongside linebacker, was having a pretty solid game for a part-time player when Kwon Alexander got hurt and Beckwith got moved to middle linebacker.

And outside of a pass play he gave up playing strongside (he recovered nicely to make the tackle), Beckwith more than held his own against the run-oriented Bears offense.

Beckwith had five tackles and two tackles for a loss. He also had two key pass breakups on consecutive plays in the fourth quarter. On one, Beckwith blew up intended receiver Tarik Cohen and the second breakup was against Kendell Wright.

“It was fun,” Beckwith said of his NFL game. Beckwith dismissed the long storm-induced break between games. “Nah, that’s what training camp is for. That’s what the rest of our practices are for. The rust is gone. I’m ready.”

And he played like he was ready. The Bucs had him prepping to play all three linebacker positions this summer and it paid off too quickly for anyone’s liking. Kwon Alexander tweaked his tender hamstring and Beckwith covered for him.

“You never know what will happen out there,” Beckwith said of preparing for all three linebacker positions. “When your number gets called, you have to be ready.”

It seems like Beckwith is sure ready for the NFL. What a freaking steal as the last pick of the third round this guy is. He’s playing like a first round talent.

He played lights out . It didn’t matter if he only got a finger on them , anyone he touched went to the ground . If both David and Kwon are out does Joe dirt get call up to the gameday roster already?

Beckwith was a monster. They are going to have to find a way to keep him on the field.

Bucs claim Lavonte David only has a cramp. He was still limping 30 minutes after the game. We shall see.

No word until likely tomorrow about Kwon.

    @Dewey Selmon

Are effing serious? Wow, we hold the bears to 20 yards rushing and you have an issue with the way our Nose tackle played?

Gtfo here with that bs dude. You call yourself a football fan? Your old self should know better.

Joe, Do you know how many tackles for a loss we had?

Is awesome to see the defense continue were they left last year. The additions showed up too. Ward’s tackle for a lost got me pumped!!!!

Broncos wishing right about now they had never let Ward go!!

Where are all the licht haters who had a problem with the beckwith pick? Better yet, where are all the licht haters who bash him for a couple of draft misses yet are nowhere to be found when there are numerous finds/steals/gems like beckwith? Crickets……..thats what i thought.

    Webster, my thoughts exactly!

Wasn’t that long ago that LB depth was a concern. No longer. Beckwith, Bond, Glanton, Lynch, Bullough – I have confidence that every one of our young LBers not named LD or Kwon would/will play their role well if/when called upon.

Beckwith and Glanton proved it today and Lynch was Johnny on the spot with the ST fumble recovery.

  14. Dave Says:

    The LB crew is awesome.
I was worried about their depth but no more.
David, Alexander, Glanton, Beckwith, Lynch, Bond

Solid tacklers and lots of speed

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

Agree with most here. Linebacker is a real strength-and Beckwith is going to be a star for us. He would be a great find, if we had drafted him in the first round.

  16. MadMax Says:

Dang Beckwith, you’re tearing it uP!!!!

So glad we got you! Teams will game plan around you!!

“OK, Kobe will start the movement…Its time for 3-4 defense”

Joe’s has been typing this for a year. All of the linebackers listed above, no one listed Noah Spence who is more suited (right now) as an outside linebacker in a 34 front.

  20. Tom Says:

    34 front sounding pretty good

This was a awesome pick guy was all over the field
