Team Glazer Secures Four Planes To Fly Out Staff, Players & Families

The Glazer family moved swiftly to help Bucs evacuations
A hearty handful of Buccaneers were on the move out of town in private planes this morning, JoeBucsFan.com was informed this evening.
Team Glazer made an 11th-hour move to secure the jets in response to the shifting of Hurricane Irma.
And in case you’re living in cave, that shift has Irma now pointed squarely at the Tampa Bay area with a late Sunday arrival.
Use of the planes was offered to any Buccaneers staff, regardless of their position, and immediate families, Joe was told by a team official.
The flights to North Carolina are nothing more than a safety evacuation at this time, Joe was advised. There are no official plans currently in place for alternate practice sites or a move of the Sept. 17 game, scheduled at home against the Bears.
Bucs players are (were?) scheduled to report back to work on Tuesday. Many players, Joe learned in the locker room on Wednesday, made plans to fly out of town assuming they could fly back Monday. It’s assumed now that Tampa International Airport will be closed through Monday.

Smart of the Glazer’s not to over react and make a rational decision when all the facts were in. But, I still as of 8:00pm Saturday see no northern trend in Irma. I am guessing it heads into the gulf.

Why would you want to leave a hurricane? Seriously you get to go through these once, it’s pretty awesome so long as you’re not too stupid. Short of living in a trailer or directly on the water, put on your helmet and enjoy the show!

Unless the path changes, I would not be surprised if they need to find an alternative practice site this week. Also, the readiness of RJS for next Sunday could be in question.

11pm NHC Notes… “Irma has stuttered near the north coast of Cuba for the past few hours, which may be a harbinger of the north-northwestward turn that we’ve been waiting for. In any event, Irma appears to be moving very slowly toward the northwest, or 305/5 kt, very gradually shifting away from the north coast of Cuba. With the hurricane located near a break in the subtropical ridge, it should turn north-northwestward soon and accelerate near or along the west coast of Florida during the next 36-48 hours. Because of Irma’s hesitation to move northwestward, the new track guidance has shifted ever so slightly westward, and the new NHC track is just a little left of the previous one.”
Anywho buckle up buckaroos, tomorrow night may or may not be one for the ages. It’s been 1921 since the last direct impact from a hurricane – so we’re due. Just like the super volcano under Yellowstone is due.

My grandmother is in Clearwater. Less than a 1/2 mile from the water. She refuses to leave, says her house is basically a bomb shelter cuz it’s made of all cinder block. I’m extremely worried about her safety tho. Hope it doesn’t flood too bad.

Hope you are right. Been asking for days why they, the weather experts, always insist on a seemingly arbitrary pivot from west to north without ever explaining the basis for this given assumption. Since it has not made a northern pivot yet I say why the hell not run out to the gulf?

Evans – Actually much of Clearwater, by the water, is pretty high ground. If you look at the eviction maps you’ll see what I mean – a lot of the houses near the water aren’t considered to be at the risk of a storm surge. Also this hurricane will have some surge but it shouldn’t be terrible since it’s coming from the south and is blowing water away from the coast – so depending on where the eye is and how strong it is at passing there might be a moderate surge or a very small one. It depends on her exact location obviously but calm your nerves a bit by looking at the surge maps they have and see where she is. For what it’s worth this will, I believe, be mainly a wind damage issue and solidly built houses should be fine even if they’re close to the coast. Also another tidbit from the NHC says they aren’t finding anything but CAT2 winds right now and it might not be as strong as it looks on radar – they also say shear will begin tearing it apart in about 24 hours which would mean it should weaken the storm just before it gets here. So just some thoughts, perhaps they help a little. Personally if I was you I’d go hang out with granny and have a hurricane party.

DallasBuc – The turn has happened, pretty much started around the time of the post. I was wondering the same thing to be fair, it wasn’t turning and kept missing the mark on the forecast – but if you smooth out the points over the last few hours you see it moving generally northwest. The NHC seems to have a good amount in cofidence in the forecast track and I’d tend to believe them as of now – and I’m generally pretty hard on them and not one of those bores that panics about it hitting Miami as a CAT5 five days out.

Rod Muncher- I hear you on that. Tampa native born and raised. Had my last foolish hurricane party back in 04 when Charlie took a quick about face and promptly forced me to respect the little that I can control.
After a long and sleepless night last night we decided to grab a few things and said goodbye to our home at 6am. Slumming it with the other refugees in GA waiting to figure out what the next day of this slow motion disaster has in store.

I’m way up here in Wisconsin. Last hurricane I was in was in 04. The one I remember most was Charley. We lived in Port Charlotte and every model had it going more north right for Tampa. It took a sharp turn and came right for us. We weren’t prepared at all and it completely destroyed our house.

Joe! I still don’t know what I did to get sht canned. I try to follow all the known written and unwritten rules. Sometimes I get after you guys but you dish in kind. Just not sure what happened.
If you will have me I plan to continue to antagonize my way to some real Bucs talk with some real fn great Bucs fans that for some reason love to hate me dearly. I think it’s because I’m almost always right!

🙁 Fort Myers beach, Captiva, Sarasota and Tampa in the direct path….this sucks!!!
I was at St Pete beach when hurricane charley was coming and had to cut the vaca short….it hit Punta Gorda pretty bad.
Hopefully it weakens fast as it hits land. Stay safe everyone if you’re riding it out!

Nice move by the Glazers to assist any Buccaneers employing who desired help in getting their family to safety.
Stay safe people – Make good decisions over the next 24 hours if you are in the path of Irma. Looks like our 100 year storm bill just came due. Lord help us that are riding this puppy out.
Don’t forget to throw on some oldschool REO Speedwagon and crank it up about 1am tonight – assuming you were not negligent enough to leave yourself without tuneage once the power goes out.

Joe- you need to get your facts straight. It was just the football side of the buccaneers staff that got asked if they wanted to evacuate. The people in ticketing, suite sales, marketing did not get asked. Glazers prob figured forget those peasants who actually bring in some revenue for the team.
