“It’s Not Like We Were Going Three-and-out”

Stresses the positive.
The offense sputtered, but don’t tell that to America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
The Bucs’ first team offense failed to score a touchdown. Yeah, one could argue they moved the ball but then the offense tripped over itself when it moved into Browns territory.
In his press conference after the game, Jameis seemed a bit befuddled that he was getting so many questions about why his offense failed to score a touchdown.
As he often does, Jameis tried to spin the conversation into the positive.
“It is not about touchdowns,” Jameis said. “It’s about team. It’s about winning. [Touchdowns] will come. The good thing it is a practice game.
“We did some great things. We ran the football. Jacquizz Rodgers, he pounded that rock. Doug [Martin], his first run was explosive. When you are playing good football, penalties and turnovers will hurt you.
“First drive, great drive. Then a turnover in the red zone. That hurts you. We have to — me personally — we have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and get over the hump. It looks good, if feels good out there. We were doing some great things. It is not like we are going three-and-outs.”
When pressed, Jameis admitted he missed two open receivers, including Cam Brate, on an overthrow that Jabril Peppers picked in the end zone.
As far as the Bucs offense playing “great” but not scoring — Joe finds that claim to be an oxymoron — Joe will quote winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter during his one year as offensive coordinator with the Bucs.
“All that anyone gives a sh*t in this league about is Ws,” Koetter said.
And to get wins you have to score.

They have to FINISH drives!! I know we were missing several key players but DAMN it’s the same issue we had last year! Put some damn points on the board. I am a little concerned how little we have put up in 3 games…Preseason or not!

I thought they moved the ball especially well, considering there was no Jackson, Evans and little of Humphries. The Cleveland def backs could play it straight up with nobody requiring double coverage. Plus, whether we want to admit it r not, Cleveland appears like they have finally turned a corner. All those #1’s are finally starting to pay off. No team resides in the basement forever, although the Browns sure gave it one helluva try. They’re gonna win some games this year. Let’s hope we’ve saved all of our August touchdowns for September…

Looked like Jameis had lots of time to throw on that 1st series & did a good job putting the ball where he needed to. After that series however I realized why backups are backups. Wester didn’t impress me at RT (looked confused about who to block on that one sack he gave up). Evan Smith was adequate but he won’t win any Roadgrader Awards. Seemed like Bucs put 2 TEs out there on almost every play, and I’m guessing it was to help with the blocking more than anything.

The things to remember from this game.
1) No game plan versus a very aggressive Greg Williams defense. We allowed them to just pin their ears back and come. Just one stop and go would’ve done a lot. No one will convince me that none of our plays couldn’t have ended up with Howard behind the defense.
2) GMC, Grimes, Gholston, Kwon, Dotson, Pamphile, Evans, Jackson and Martin didn’t start. (yes I put Martin in there, anyone that can’t see how much better than he is than all of the others is tainted) So many times the Browns were in third downs the D just couldn’t make the play. The non TD would’ve been a TD with Jacskon or Evans. I’ve said it all along. Our starting 5 o-line is pretty good, take out any two and there is trouble.

I remember all those years where our offense could never move the ball up and down the field the way Koetter/Winston has it looking right now. I have faith they will score a lot of points this year, especially with the lack of a respectable dline which is certain to give up the booty all year

Browns defense was hitting harder than Bucs defense. Jacquiz Rogers looked like a pinball getting hit backwards. Didn’t see a great effort other than Hargreaves making great plays on the ball.
Looked like the Bucs were in practice mode.

Offensive line was the ugliest part. That line is so overrated starting with the human turnstile Donovan Smith. Sweezy gave up the booty all night too. That unit was about as dreadful as the dline was. It’s a tough call really but safe to say they both units got failing grades. Starting to get a bad feeling about opening day

If your biggest OLine concerns are Sweezy and Smith, we didn’t watch the same game. RT scares me as does any LG not named Pamphile.

Their defense played with zero fear and the play calling did little to slow them down. The sky is not falling but the team has plenty to do in the next two weeks.

As usual agree with tnew’s take.
Does anybody here believe we’ve seen ANY of DK’s red zone offense? Really?
He has two weeks of private practices now that training camp is over. The 4th preseason game is meaningless. I think DK will now use privacy to begin actually installing his game plan for Miami. Far too soon to panic. I agree with #3. I’ve seen enough positives to not dwell on the negatives.
Mainly I think our OL is going to be fine if we’re healthy. Still scared about RT but D. Smith…Pamphile…Ali and Sweezy are going to be fine.
After Godwin’s camp and performance last night I think our receiving corps is as stout as any in the league..and we haven’t really used OJ yet.

Even if you ignore both starting WRs out, at the VERY LEAST, the good thing about this game is there’s at least 1-2 additional wins on the schedule by simply having Folks on the roster.
It was a sloppy game but not worried whatsoever. Once we actually start using our offensive gameplan the TD’s will come.

Don’t matter. Just be glad it is preseason. Browns came out ballin last night. Even with mccoy, Our Defense may have not looked so good.
