Remember when folks thought that when the Bucs drafted America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, they got a guy who was a combination of Lucifer and Hannibal Lecter?
Not only was that hysterical nonsense, the false narrative that way too many folks bought into is slowly subsiding.
Yes, it is one thing for locals, having seen Jameis’ good deeds, charm and charisma up close and personal, to embrace him. But the national perception of Jameis seems to be much improved, as well.
Take this piece from Mike Bish of Fox Sports 1340 in Virginia. The station doesn’t even cover an NFC South squad (it used to carry Stinking Panthers broadcasts but now is exclusive to Baltimore/Washington, D.C. teams) and Bish lauds the exploits of Jameis. There is much to read by clicking on the link, but Bish believes Jameis will soon take over the NFL, possibly this season.
For Joe, it just shows that folks outside of Florida are beginning to understand what a special young man Jameis is. On the field and off.

Jameis will get better. The team is also building that core of young players around him. If they develop those players then they can contend year-after-year for playoff berths and division titles.

…..people forget about the issues past players like what Payton Manning did in college (Google it folks)

Take care of the ball, improve accuracy, don’t force throws to receivers that are not open, control your on-field “enthusiasm” at all times…that would be special!
Oh yes, avoid off-the-field issues. Go Bucs; go Jameis.

As a FSU fan from the first time I saw Jameis play against Pittsburgh you could tell right then that he was something special. I dreamed from that day that the Bucs would find some way to get him on our team. He has not disappointed. The future looks very, very bright. Can wait for what the season brings.

First words out a mofo mouth “Jameis will get better”. You lames act as if he blind deaf and dumb. If he was anywhere else in this league they would be acting like he was the second coming of any great QB they may have already had in the history of they’re organization. Says alot about the IQ of many Bucs fans. Or maybe its he just has the wrong pigmentation for some of you QB gurus. I mean more than a few posters and Joe have already shown his early numbers in relation to some of the greatest QBs the game has ever seen. Jameis will get better??? I’m sure of it dude, he’s made it perfectly clear his standard is excellence. I’m starting to think some of you say that because you hear that often from someone close to you. Someone you may very well share a bed with when you lay down at night.

Hard Knocks will help change negative national perceptions of Winston- but winning and being truly “relevant” and the exposure that comes with that is what will ultimately erase most traces of the negative image too many still have of Jameis Winston. That and time.
Winston was the victim of some serious character assassination that was started by the NY Times (fueled largely by the false accusations of the cleatchaser and pushed hard initially by her aunt lawyer’s agenda) but didn’t take long for many other national outlets to start pouring it on – including BSPN most notably.
Black star QB dru_gs and ra_pes an innocent white girl and the local police (influenced by the $ of local school boosters) go to great lengths to cover up for said star football player – is too juicy of a story for many media outlets to want to fact check very closely before they run with such titillating “news”.
I would say Jameis handled all of that about as well as anyone in his position possibly could have.

Ummmm…nope. Unless this is ironic hyperbole, I don’t remember that. Immature behavior and a rape allegation made him a concern coming out of FSU, but nothing like this! There was never even as much concern about Winston as there was from Cleveland fans after drafting Manziel!

why keep pushing Winston like he is a top 10 qb when NOT there yet but in time. M.M. still rated higher in the nfl but let Winston become better qb then average then shout out.(yes, I know he is young)

Sorry Ben – James has 8,132yards and 50 TDS compared to MM’s 6244 yards and 45 TDs. MM might be a great QB but the best ability is availability and so far he can’t stay on the field. James has not one but TWO 4000 yard seasons already. How many does MM have? Jameis also has a pro bowl. How many does MM have. So far, who is the most successful QB? Lets not let those pesky facts get in the way, instead lets let BSPNs made up rating system tell us who is better.

Winston said ‘I want to be the greatest of all time’. This kid will not stop until he has reached perfection.He wants Brady’s title, and he wants to keep it forever! The kid is a perfectly molded football player in general. Not just at the quarterback position. He’s the Neo of the Matrix in the NFL! His ticker for the game never stops. Greatest pick of all time will end up going to Jason licht because of what this kid is going to do in his career.

In my opinion Yellow journalism from writer Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times has probably been the biggest hurdle Jameis has had to overcome. His articles and analogies were so far off base it poisoned the minds of many. For example on February 26, 2015 Matt Baker wrote an article regarding how difficult things had been on him and at one point compares the situation to events revolving around Convicted Child Molester Jerry Sandusky.
I don’t care who you are it is going to be difficult to change peoples minds when a local writer brings up a convicted child molester in his articles regarding you.

As a Buc fan outside of Florida, the national media doesn’t pay much attention to the bucs or Jameis much either good or bad. Even in the draft process… yes, of course there were the flew slander articles written but it wasn’t huge. I think nationally he’s hasn’t had much attention, but that will all change after hard knocks. The bucs and Jameis will be a big deal going into the season nationally – i hope they are ready!!

I think it was BSPN that said last week that Jameis wasn’t quite in the same class as Marcus Mariota and David Carr. True he’s not Carr quite yet. But Mariota?! Are you people out of your f-ing minds!!!

I’ll be the 1st to admit that I did, in fact, think that the off-field issues would be a problem for Jameis. It was NOT the reason that I thought AT THAT TIME that Mariotta would be a better choice. I am 1,000% convinced that the Bucs made the right decision and could not be happier with and for the young man.
@Nos- In football, time and winning heals all. There will always be doubters and criticisms. Jameis is a good player on the verge of being a GREAT player. I look forward to seeing him hoist the Lombardi! If people don’t like him….oh well!

I would take MM over JW any day of the week and twice on Sundays! Just watch the game film on both. You homers don’t have a clue. The turn around in the second half of the year was more because of the defense and what Mike Smith did. Give credit where credit is due.

Can someone show me where it is written that two young talented quarterbacks drafted first and second in the nfl draft cant both grow to be great? I also am waiting for those of you that were perfect angels and totally mistake free between the age of 17 to 23 to step forward and raise your hand. Keep in mind that beer you had in high school at age 17 was illegal at the time. I am not making light of any ALLEGATIONS but it is very clear to me that a certain group of people were and are rooting for this young man to fail. The good thing is I know the a larger number of Bucc, nfl and fair minded folks are rooting for this great young man to win at footbal and most importantly life.
Throwing for 4000+ yards in your first two seasons had never been accomplished until Mr. Jameis Winston got it done. You football gurus that learned your football from Playstation and Fantasy football give me a break with the interception BS. When you have one major receiver that draws constant double teams and every other receiver on the field is an undrafted free angent you may have to force a few into coverage. LETS GO BUCCS LETS GO JAMEIS !!!
