Bucs Marketing Wakes Up And Boasts
June 20th, 2017Finally!
Finally!
Finally!
Joe was applauding today driving down U.S. Hwy. 19 in Clearwater. A fist pump followed.
It was a sight to behold, a sign (literally and figuratively) that the Buccaneers realize it’s time to start really selling their tremendous successes behind the scenes.
Joe has been sickened too long by the endless love Lightning owner Jeff Vinik gets on local sports radio. It almost feels incestuous. Hosts absolutely pour it on for all the positive things Vinik has done with his team and to support the community, and for excellent fan management and for enhancing the Bolts-fan experience.
Hey, that’s great all great for Tampa and for Vinik. Joe appreciates Vinik’s work wholeheartedly on all fronts.
Heck, if Mr. Vinik wants to own powerful media in town to promote his multitude of entities, JoeBucsFan.com would be happy to accept a check tomorrow and pledge allegiance to the Vinik team. Joe is a Vinik fan.
But what about the Buccaneers, the top-dog team in town?
During that highway drive, Joe saw an electronic Bucs billboard touting the team’s mind-blowing success in customer service. The message “Ranked No. 1 Customer Service In The NFL” was followed by the years the Bucs brought home the gold: 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016.
That success is not only one of the great under-reported sports stories in the Tampa Bay area and nationally, (Joe wrote all about it earlier this year), it’s about damn time the Bucs realized it’s an achievement to trumpet to the masses. It’s a very intricate process by the NFL to grade teams, not an everybody-gets-a-trophy honor.
So much effort has gone into selling tickets, yet messages like this, the ones fans latch on to, the ones that create buzz and powerful feelings around town (subconsciously and otherwise), have been largely ignored far too long.
Again, Joe is so glad the Bucs have decided to invest in getting the word out on their fan-friendly dynasty.
Joe also hopes this marks the end of the misguided “Siege The Day” campaign, which replaced “It’s A Bucs Life,” which was lacking intelligent support for its message. What a golden opportunity wasted.
Marketing doesn’t win football games. But you know what? Fans matter, and growing the Bucs’ base into the most rabid and energized in the NFL is important.

2017: “Get Buccing Pumped!!!”
Ok that was terrible and cheesey. I’ll see my way out.
June 20th, 2017 at 12:54 pm
Nothing gets me riled up about football like quality customer service
June 20th, 2017 at 12:58 pm
Number one in customer service with Aramark running the concession stands? HAHA.
June 20th, 2017 at 1:01 pm
Just win consistently or at least be competitive consistently and they will be embraced by the community again

When you suck year after year you rejoice over customer service.
June 20th, 2017 at 1:15 pm
Excellence breeds excellence. This is a well-deserved honor. My team rep, Ms. Banks, is no joke. Whatever i need, and whenever i need it. She makes my requests her mission. I appreciate that. Again, well-deserved. You can tell they put a serious focus on taking care of their customers.

Every marketing piece the Bucs air should start out with the cannons firing a la the opener for the Lightning: THUNDER! Na-na-na-naaaaah-na, THUNDER!
June 20th, 2017 at 1:35 pm
“Siege The Day” – Meh.
“It’s A Bucs Life” – Ghey. Usually used in sarcastic manner.
“Speak softly…AND CARRY A BIG STICK” – Epic
June 20th, 2017 at 1:36 pm
I don’t get it
June 20th, 2017 at 1:37 pm
hey hey Tampa Bay, the Buc’s know how to shiiiine
June 20th, 2017 at 1:43 pm
Coach –
That is who I had before switching to another rep. Ms. Ryan. They were/are both very accommodating and on point with everything they do.
June 20th, 2017 at 1:44 pm
Still cant buy the Buc’s Battle Flag tho?
Our marketing dept is a joke..
June 20th, 2017 at 1:48 pm
They should have a “Customer Service Super Bowl”. Jus’ sayin’…
June 20th, 2017 at 2:01 pm
LOL.
This is NOT what gets fans excited….
June 20th, 2017 at 2:27 pm
“It’s a Bucs Life” was a great theme and campaign that had the misfortune of coinciding with some of the worst examples of pro football one could imagine. The team was an un-polishable turd for an uncomfortably long time.
June 20th, 2017 at 2:31 pm
“Joe also hopes this marks the end of the misguided “Siege The Day” campaign…”
I’m so glad you said that. I think that is the worst slogan I have ever heard.
Change it to “@!#@ this, we want a trophy!”
June 20th, 2017 at 2:40 pm
Stick Carriers Unite…has a nice ring to it lol
June 20th, 2017 at 2:43 pm
Stick Carriers…Ring…lol Can a brother dream?!
June 20th, 2017 at 2:50 pm
Sure Ok Joe..if you want to applaud whatever. But WINNING takes care of everything. marketing, attendance, sales, popularity..you name it. Having said this, we need to..win a divisional championship, make the playoffs. and win in the playoffs..and eventually bring home that ultimate trophy. Nothing..Nothing else matters. You can appear on HBo fill the cows come home. if you don’t win consistently, Joe Public, at least across these United States considers You…a loser. All I gotsta say bout that!
Rays wouldn’t agree with you. –Joe

The ship with Jameis and some Players firing the cannons should be part of it.
June 20th, 2017 at 3:28 pm
I don’t get this. My tickets usually continue to go up in price . We are not able to move spots for better seats (although current seats are solid) Been season ticket holder from Orlando for almost 10 years and no free parking. And pay $8-10 for a beer?
June 20th, 2017 at 3:38 pm
I miss the short-lived ‘All Hands on Deck’ promotion. It ended before I had a chance to go out and ‘modify’ the billboards.
June 20th, 2017 at 3:50 pm
Shakedown 1979, cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we’d never see an end to it all
June 20th, 2017 at 4:26 pm
Change those hideous uniforms!!!!
June 20th, 2017 at 4:53 pm
What does number one in customer service mean? Who cares – you buy your tickets online, you never speak with anyone, you go to the game, your ticket is scanned, you walk into the stadium, OK, is that good customer service? I mean I generally sit in club seats when I go and even there I don’t have any encounters other than ordering a hotdog where I hand them money and they hand me my food. Is that what they’re talking about? What is “customer service” when it comes to the NFL and why does it matter? If you had bad customer service then I guess maybe it could affect the sales, but I doubt it if the team was any good. But good customer service, yay, I guess, but I don’t see how that sells even a single ticket.

I LOVE both Bucs and the Lightning. As far as actually watching the action in person…it’s a tough call for me…both games are very exciting.
But hockey has some advantages over football…20,000 trying to jam into one location for game is a lot easier to manage than 70,000.
And now to bring the wrath of JBF posters on me. NHL fans have far better manners than NFL fans. NHL female fans are really knowledgeable…some NFL ladies are as well but overall I think the female fans of Hockey are amazing.
I’ve left more than one Bucs game with testosterone crazed young men 18-30 behaving very poorly dropping not just f bombs but mf bombs in front of little kids…saw them threaten to beat one father who asked them to stop…I’ve never sensed any violence leaving a hockey game.
Stadium food is stadium food…tossup for me at all three venues.
June 20th, 2017 at 6:51 pm
Manners and the game is much better to watch!! People are not standing up in front of you all game long so you can not see it. Dumping beer all over you. Best atmosphere I have been at yet. Been to NASCAR and Bucs games. Lightning beats them all.
June 20th, 2017 at 10:32 pm
DBS….it’s a football game. Fans are supposed to stand up and be loud. I know that’s something many Buc fans do not even comprehend. I’ve been to many games and I’ve seen your lame ass sitting down the whole game….I’ve seen you guys and wish you’d just stay home.
June 20th, 2017 at 10:37 pm
I hope you keep watching and going to your hockey games after the team sucks. I’ve lived in many hockey towns, and fans don’t show when the team sucks. Worse than the NFL or any other sport imo. Not knocking hockey. It’s just the way I see it. It will never have the fan bases that the NFL has that’s for certain.
June 20th, 2017 at 11:21 pm
This is not what I thought this article would be about after the headline. But now
I am so PUMPED UP. Best customer service?? This is a game changer. Playoffs here we come baby!!!
June 20th, 2017 at 11:22 pm
Joe’s putting me on moderation is not recomended. Just saying
June 21st, 2017 at 10:08 am
I’m hoping the next stadium has air conditioning and can block the sunlight.
