DeSean Jackson No. 5

June 12th, 2017

He can still fly.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter wanted more explosive plays. He sure got an explosive receiver.

When the Bucs signed speed demon DeSean Jackson, they acquired one of the fastest receivers in the NFL to pair with one of the best receivers in the NFL, Mike Evans.

While Jackson is 30, Matt Bowen of BSPN details how Jackson not only has not slowed down one bit on the eyeball test, but his overall skill set may put him ahead of other speedy receivers.

Even at age 30, Jackson hasn’t slowed down on the tape. One of the top deep threats in the league, Jackson has the ideal combination of vertical speed, route-running ability and body control at the point of attack. We saw that this past season when Jackson smoked the Giants on a deep post. Separate on the break, track the ball and then make a highlight grab. That’s smooth. Based on what I see, I bet Jackson would drop a 4.3 on the stopwatch today. He can still fly.

Joe admits to being more stoked for Bucs football than Joe can remember. With Jackson’s speed and the way America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, launches a football with his cannon arm, this should make opposing cornerbacks wet their pants before the National Anthem is sung.

With Jackson, Evans, O.J. Howard and Cam Brate, there probably isn’t a defensive coordinator drunk enough to put a safety in the box.

Def was pumped for the replacing vjax w djax, but seriously alarmed of his lack of showing up with his new teammates for voluntary workouts, just to gel and build a better on field relationship with jameis, maybe they are doing stuff privately in cali or wherever, just hope its not the beginning of season long bs

Blah, blah, blah i’m going to wait until they actually play some games, I don’t believe in preseason hype.

Blah blah blah you the type to talk bs on JBF but pump your fist mightily once the @$$ kickin begins.

Y’all sleep on the Comish podcast because of the language but today’s was really good. He talks about the “Licht years” ahead theme from yesterday. I feel what many here take for granted was Koetter being a first time HC in the league. 9 and 7 wasn’t bad.

As for Desean and his world class speed. I’ve dusted off the old PlayStation controllers, gotta get my Madden game back up.

Nole, I have been saying this for 10 years, and the Yucs haven’t proved me wrong yet. I say I have been doing pretty good, unlike the Pre-season hypers on here. lol

I just hope DJax still playing after week 3.

Well I hope they are ALL playing after week 3. But I’m not sure of your take.
It seems to indicate that you feel DJax is injury prone?

He’s played nine years and averaged 14 games per season.
He played in all 16 twice and in 15 games four more seasons…he had ONE year where he only played in 9.

He’s averaged 50 catches a year…even with the one injured year…he’s right at 1,000 yards per season for all nine seasons with 8819 total in nine years.

He MAY be a prima donna…many WR’s are…but he HAS put up consistent numbers!

In fact if you look at DJAX’s career numbers you realize he should easily go over 10,000 career yards sometime this year or next.

Bottom line is that DJAX has had a very good career ALREADY!!!! But he still has a chance at greatness and even the HOF is not out of the question. He would have to get there through a long consistent career. If he managed to squeeze another 5 years…continues to put up his normal numbers….AND…and here is the big AND….IF he played for two Buc teams that at least reach…preferably win two SB’s all of the sudden DJAX’s career goes from simply very good to excellent.

DJAX is a multimillionaire many times over…BEFORE he ever signed with us.
$$$ are no longer the major issue if his head is on straight.

So what is left? A freaking SB to crown his career!!! DJAX has already made his bones…but he does not have a championship…that’s what he needs from the Bucs and that is what is going to keep his head on straight for us.

    Lakeland

I don’t believe in preseason hype.

Which begs the question…then why are you here? Perhaps you feel it’s your duty to calm down those among us who are excited? Perhaps prove you know more than the rest…of course if the Bucs win 10 and make the playoffs the opposite will have been proved.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not disrespecting your opinion…you MAY be right…just wondering why you bother if that’s how you feel?

There are only a few possibilities here. Those like me and NOSBOS who are excited and could be disappointed…and that’s a possibility…there is also the possibility that the Bucs are good and go deep into the playoffs.

Then there are the “pragmatists” like you Lakeland who are waiting for the Bucs annual failure…and that too is a possibility.

Some fans here would rather expect the worst and be happily surprised if we succeed…others like to be very positive and optimistic and face failure IF and when it shows up.

IF the Bucs are good fans like me and NOSBOS will have had an entire year of excitement….those like Lakeland and the pragmatists will only have the final 8 games to finally be excited. If the Bucs suck yeah NOSBOS and me and other will have to deal with the disappointment….but announcing I believe they will suck ahead of time does nothing for me at least to diminish the pain of failure.

Lakeland you’re probably too young to remember Casey Kasem’s AT 40.

He signed off every week with the same line….”Keep reaching for the stars but keep your feet firmly on the ground”.

I hear ya Lakeland…you think our feet have become unmoored LOL. Perhaps.
But we should still be reaching for those stars…Minneapolis or bust!

Its easy to talk greasy about a team that lacked stability(thru out those years) at two position. QB and HC. We’ll see what your perspective looks like come next season.

  12. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Minneapolis or bust indeed.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

Djax’s talent, swagger and speed will help win far more games than Ice Cream will. Yes, he will probably miss a game or two but nowhere near as fragile as cancer93

hey st pete your radical left buddies are making trump look like mother theresa these days. It’s been a fun circus since both parties but up laughable candidates.

  14. BucInJAX Says:

Amen St. Pete, I don’t want to be sad until proven wrong.

  15. DB55 Says:

    SPBF

Let me rephrase: I hope after week 3 DJax doesn’t take his money and run. Maybe a hamstring injury that puts him on IR?! Ask Moken he knows what’s up.

  16. redblud Says:

DB55, DJax has done that exactly zero times in his career, why do you think he’ll start now?

  17. DB55 Says:

“They” (high priced FAs) normally don’t until they get to Tampa. I.e. Revis, mankind, Sweezy, mike the ghost Johnson. Should I go on?

  18. BucTrooper Says:

Every time I see that pic of DJ I wonder what the heck happened to his sweatshirt.

  19. LongSeason Says:

Winston and Jackson will still need to develop chemistry. If they can do that then this offense is going to be a Flying Circus.
