Brandt: Licht Should Be Jailed

Gil Brandt is of the mind Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht should be charged with felony theft.
Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio last night while co-hosting “Late Hits” with Alex Marvez, Brandt, the architect of the Cowboys dynasties of the late-1960s and 1970s, said Licht pulled off a fast one and is guilty of a felony crime against his NFL colleagues for the pilfering he did in free agency.
“He ought to be put in jail for stealing,” Brandt said.
But why? It was the signing of wide receiver DeSean Jackson, that’s why, Brandt said.
Brandt is a huge fan of Jackson’s skill set and he said America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans and the NFL leader in touchdowns for a tight end last year, Cam Brate, will reap the benefits of what Jackson brings to the table.
But then Brandt, who is as Goody Two-shoes as they come and rarely has a discouraging word for a player, raised a caution flag about Jackson.
“DeSean is a player that sometimes is not the easiest guy to coach or is the easiest guy to get along with but boy, can he make plays,” Brandt said.
Whoa! Now Joe knows Brandt is as well plugged-in as anyone in the NFL. Shoot, Brandt still works for the NFL. Among his duties is coordinating the NFL combine.
Brandt is highly respected if not worshiped by many NFL suits. Often, he is a sounding board for other general managers and scouting directors. Brandt has seen a lot in his days and he is largely known as the man who brought football scouting and development from the dark ages into the 21st century. In fact, the combine is Brandt’s baby. He helped craft the idea decades ago.
Heck, as a young assistant coach at UTEP, winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter used to write scouting reports on players for Brandt and, in return, Koetter received a modest kickback from the Cowboys executive.
The fact Brandt said this about Jackson really got Joe’s attention. First, again, Brandt is loathe to criticize any player. Second, Brandt’s words immediately brought to mind what Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken offered of a conversation he had with Jackson.
Hearing what Brandt said about Jackson last night reinforced there is an underlying reason Monken shared that chat with reporters.

Or getting good players in the off season????????

How does paying top-dollar for an unrestricted free agent constitute felony theft? DeSean Jackson is a unique talent, but he also comes with baggage. He tends to whine when he’s not getting the ball enough and he misses a lot of games with seemingly minor injuries.
Signing Jackson to that massive contract was a ballsy move with high risk and high potential reward. We’re all hoping it works out as planned, but it could just as easily go sideways and Jackson could be a huge problem for this team. It was a calculated risk, not felony theft.

jackson will miss a game or two no doubt in my mind but at least this year there is more than ONE nfl caliber receiver on the roster. The one you need to worry about is the fragile DT who is already crying about sore knees and setting up the excuses for another average season.

There is a very recent development that may render this moot. If Chris Godwin keeps progressing at his current pace DJAX will lose a lot of “prima donna” leverage.
I’m not too worried about prima donnas on this team…Licht and Koetter have packed this team with character guys…much to the chagrin of some here.
On Offense alone I can’t imagine DJAX going up against both #3 and ME13.
DJAX has his money…his fame…what he needs now more than anything is a SB.
A couple of SB’s and 3-4 more years and DJAX has a chance to turn a nice career into a great career. I think that’s his major motivation at this point.

Excited to see how Mr. D. Jackson flows in this offense. See how he opens up things for us. His past attitude and issues do not yet concern me. I would like him to be here during the OTA’s to learn and practice the offense in a slower, non contact way. Before minicamp and training camp. It will not be any theft if he gets a strain or a tear or anything in mini and training camp as he has not been out in Tampa getting conditioned to the humid weather and how it affects your body.

His personality and his durability are both reasons why I wanted kenny stills….but there is no doubting what he is capable of. Dude is electric but he can be pretty high maintenance. Hopefully Winston keeps him in line

He could also be looking at “Neglect” charges if the O-line is as suspect as I believe it to be.
This will lead to an “Endangerment” charge if said O-line allows Jameis to be hit repeatedly.
Could lead to possible “Fraud” charges levied by the fan base.

From what I have read on Joe’s previous articles on our running game and from stories on other sites praising Adrian Petersons at Saints camp, starting to look like he should have cut Martin and signed Peterson.

The emergence of Godwin so far in practice will be a blessing as it allows DJax to run deeper routes (depending on game situation) and then come off the field for fresh legs once it the play is called. It should also keep him fresh for the whole game. DJax will get plenty of looks.
What will be interesting is how often Brate and Howard will be on the field which would take away the slot receiver (Hump/Godwin). That in conjunction with Godwin in the WR rotation should really give so many great combinations that we lacked last year. This is why Koetter will not give up play calling as well.

LOL why do you think he fell to the 2nd round out of Cal despite being a top WR prospect since his HS days as an Army All-American (where he fumbled the ball at the 1 yard line trying to flip into the end zone). Oh…Joe didn’t know that Jackson went in the second round in the first place because he was too busy preparing a shrine to future all-time great Bucs GM Mark Dominik? I get it now…

Hey Joe, this is already well-known information on DJax. He was a punk coming out of college and scared away a bunch of teams. But I think he’s mellowed a bit.

Its not the offense that scares me. The defense has a habit of letting games get away from them. Hard to set back and watch the secondary get torched on a 3rd and long on a regular basis. D/ line got to get more pressure. And i need to sack this POS phone. It’s terrible!
