Steve Duemig Returns Monday
May 11th, 2017It was high-fives and shots of Panama Rum all around JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters this morning.
Joe’s good friend The Big Dog, Steve Duemig, the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, will return to the WDAE-AM 620 airwaves Monday.
Duemig got horrible news that he had cancer in his brain after a life-threatening episode in early February. Since, Duemig has been off the air enduring various procedures and treatments. He has refused to leave the proverbial bat on his shoulders and take a called third strike.
Big Dog’s battle now has him ready to return to the WDAE airwaves for his popular 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. show, where he has been an iconic fixture in Tampa sports radio for 20+ years.
As many readers here know, Duemig’s show changed about four years ago, when he graciously opened his studio to allow Joe in for a full hour every week — year-round — to talk all things Bucs. Some truly classic radio ensued, including Duemig yelling at Joe to hug a tree, in addition to many heated arguments and more.
Joe is so happy about Big Dog’s return. #DogStrong

Hope to get to hear you and the big dog next wednesday talk about the bucs
May 11th, 2017 at 1:05 pm
sports radio flat sucked without the bigdog. hands down the most entertaining talking head in TB
May 11th, 2017 at 1:06 pm
Great news. Is Steve fully recovered, is his treatment over? You’re leaving us on a ledge here..
May 11th, 2017 at 1:13 pm
Glad to hear Steve is doing better – as far as that’s concerned….
May 11th, 2017 at 1:14 pm
[And you just got banned. — Joe]

May 11th, 2017 at 1:17 pm
Love him or Loathe him
Sportsradio is better with him
Buc You,
Nobody deserves what you are saying
Reassess your priorities…
May 11th, 2017 at 1:18 pm
Buc you that’s not cool. No reason to wish that upon anyone, at least not over a game of football.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:18 pm
Awesome news. Really glad to hear he is back!
May 11th, 2017 at 1:22 pm
This is great news. Glad he he is doing better. The airwaves haven’t been the same without him.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:24 pm
#dogstrong #flagwavers!!!!!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 1:28 pm
Sure have missed him. Prayers answered!!!
Buc you jump off a high bridge. Pos.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:32 pm
Anyway, Im a huge fan of his. Alot of people are not. And while I dont agree with everything he says, I’ll always remember when he took on national talking head Steve Berthume, who was at espn at the time. Berthume has just wrote an opion piece regarding the Rays claiming they had no fans and attendance was the end all barometer of such. Well SD called him out and had him on the show and used facts to show why Berthume’s piece was misleading and lacking certain info. Info that would undermine their narrative of course. My point being that he stood up for Tampa Bay, stood up against the four letter who think that they can say anything they want about our market and no one will challenge their narrative. Well he did and I will always respect him for that. And btw a few months later the Rays edged out the red sux for the wild card. It was pretty sweet.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:32 pm
Bless up
May 11th, 2017 at 1:34 pm
GREAT NEWS…..GOOD TO HEAR!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 1:35 pm
Can you imagine the number of sports stories that have developed since Steve’s absence began? Steve will have tons to talk about….should be jammed packed few weeks just catching up, at least.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:39 pm
I was glad to hear of his return. I almost never agree with anything Duemig says, but he is a good guy. I am glad to see he is being blessed with good health.
All glory be to god.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:40 pm
Can’t stand the guy but his hockey I.Q. is off the charts. Get well soon Big Dog!
May 11th, 2017 at 1:42 pm
Buc…he didn’t get Gruden fired. Sure, he didn’t like Gruden…that much was obvious. But Gruden’s vouching for Allen, who was a lousy GM, from a talent evaluation part of the job, was his downfall. And of course, Gruden never met a player he didn’t love and our drafts stunk. And BTW…don’t forget how Richie torched us in his last draft here.
But that said, please get real. With cancer we are talking life and death, and contrary to what you might believe, football isn’t…..it isn’t worth wishing someone medical disaster and loss of life, no matter how much we like them as a coach, player, broadcaster or fan.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:43 pm
@Buc you,
You’re a truly horrible person. To wish death upon another person simply because of sports is beyond sick in the head. I don’t even know what else to say, except you are a piece of trash. Actually, calling you that is an insult to trash.
May 11th, 2017 at 1:47 pm
[Not the time or place for that. — Joe]
May 11th, 2017 at 1:58 pm
It is shameful some have to be negative in this thread. If you have to be remotely negative in this thread, it very well could be your final comment on this site.
Please do not test Joe on this. smh
May 11th, 2017 at 2:05 pm
Sometimes I enjoy his show. A lot of times I don’t. Guess I”m just not a fan of his style. That said, I am very happy he’s on the road to recovery. Cancer is a terrible disease and I wish that on no one. I hope he fully recovers and continues to annoy me for a long while.
May 11th, 2017 at 2:13 pm
What so many of you don’t understand is that you aren’t supposed to agree with everything the Big Dog says. The very people that dislike him so much are the same ones who listen to him all the time. I disagree with a lot of what he says, but that’s what makes it entertaining. It’s very similar to this website. I hope he beats this terrible disease, and that he can continue to be on the radio as long as he chooses.
May 11th, 2017 at 2:20 pm
Kicking cancers ass… that’s what I’m talking about! Keep it up, dude!
May 11th, 2017 at 2:36 pm
Good to hear he’s doing well!!! No disrespect to Pat and Aaron but I’ll be tuning in from NYC to hear the Big Dog again
May 11th, 2017 at 2:47 pm
Meh, I only listen on weds (or when ever JBF are on)
May 11th, 2017 at 2:49 pm
What 951 said.
May 11th, 2017 at 2:53 pm
Well that’s good news. After reading Jones piece on him yesterday I was wondering if that had to do with him resurfacing in general. Apparently it did.. His repartee with the Joe’s is always great. Best part of the week on his show. I have little interest in golf or horse racing and even less in betting in general so I generally stray during those conversations. But as has been echoed here the Tampa Bay airwaves are much better with him as part of them. Hope he beats this thing.
May 11th, 2017 at 3:12 pm
I enjoy listening to the cantankerous blowhard. I realized it more since he has been gone. Love it when he argues with callers. Around here the radio is on more than the tv. Good luck Big Dog!
May 11th, 2017 at 3:19 pm
Great news……the guys filling in were unlistenable…..glad to have a great professional back on the air!
May 11th, 2017 at 3:21 pm
Good luck, Big Dog.
May 11th, 2017 at 3:23 pm
Some of you need to look at the bigger picture. As he demonstrated at least once, if he was the quintessential homer, he would be boring as heck. His job is to entertain, and create food for discussion in an intelligent thought provoking context. Frankly, I think that some of his opinions are full of bull, though mostly I find them worthwhile. But as I would say about any good teacher, entertainer, and most people I’d want to listen to or read…including Joe…I don’t always agree….but they are rarely boring.
God’s speed….get well Steve…welcome back.
May 11th, 2017 at 3:35 pm
This is fantastic news! He has been a great asset to this area’s sport scene. He speaks his mind and he has been a ardent defender of the the Tampa bay area sports but lets the owners and gm’s know when he not happy with the on field results. I’ll be listening on Monday and praying for his continued improvement.
May 11th, 2017 at 3:35 pm
Welcome back Big Dog! I don’t always agree with you, but your show is always entertaining!
May 11th, 2017 at 3:38 pm
Can’t wait!
May 11th, 2017 at 3:53 pm
The most prepared radio guy in the history of radio.
Welcome back b dog- don’t always agree but you are the best.
Way to fight!!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 4:37 pm
Go BIG DOG!!! Glad to hear you are coming back to work. I missed your insight and colorful comments in my afternoons. Sure it was hard on you and your family. Sure was for your Tampa Bay family! So Big dog get back to work and welcome home!!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 4:45 pm
I’ve been listening to Big Dog for at least 20 years or so and when I read on this site that he was sick I literally came to tears and today when I saw this post I came to tears again…i won’t always agree with him and often get frustrated listening but even though I’ve never spoken to him I consider him a friend and I will continue to pray for his health and hope he recovers fully!!! Love you BIgDog!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 4:52 pm
I am really happy that Big Dog is doing better. Cancer sucks! I look forward to more Bucs talk on the airwaves. I have to turn the channel during the Rays talk. That team is not worth hearing about
May 11th, 2017 at 4:54 pm
I am glad to hear the dogs are barking and will be back soon.
May 11th, 2017 at 5:09 pm
It’s rare that I reveal what I do for a living, but I work in hospice and deal with death daily. Therefore, for people to react negatively on this thread is really unconscionable. I’m glad he’s feeling well enough to get back to work. That is a terrific milestone. I wish him well and am grateful he has friends like you Joes.
May 11th, 2017 at 5:12 pm
Welcome back Steve. I don’t agree with him all the time but that’s what makes for good radio. Wish him nothing but the best.
May 11th, 2017 at 5:21 pm
Big Dog gets some good guests, talks about some good topics, has a great show, even if I don’t agree with him now and again. It should never be about who we agree with in our great nation, but about the fact we can disagree, do soime back and forth, and still have a dialog. Glad Steve is set to come back, and wish him the best. Being close to cancer myself, it’s tough to handle…and takes great courage.
May 11th, 2017 at 5:36 pm
I truly hope one day everyone who makes a blog comment can be seen on tv. My God, do these people attend Berkeley? The whole point of a talk show is to generate opposite view discussions. I am a huge fan of Steve and his vast knowledge in multi-sports and great guests. I like what Hawaiian said, more important then anything is life. Odds are most of us will face what he did or something similar, God Speed Steve!
May 11th, 2017 at 6:13 pm
My granddad always told me as a kid, Be careful who/whom you wish bad things upon. Karma is a Mother……! Great to hear Steve see back in the box swinging and talking. Prayers in the highest.
May 11th, 2017 at 6:46 pm
I don’t always comment on here but i have to definitely send a shoutout to the big dawg. Missed his raw attitude. And anyone who gets blocked from this article has to be a real piece of $h!t. Congratulations keyboarded warriors (pu$$ies)
May 11th, 2017 at 6:54 pm
Thank you Jesus A-MEN
May 11th, 2017 at 7:09 pm
Happy to hear he is alive and back. His Philly nasty has mellowed over the years. I think the Tampa market needed some of that. He is an entertainer, a father, and a good guy.
Welcome back, Big Dog!
May 11th, 2017 at 7:21 pm
Missed the Big Dog, Big Time. Glad to hear he’s on the mend. Look forward to many more years of the best drive-time sports talk bar none!
May 11th, 2017 at 7:38 pm
Good news, it felt empty without big 🐕 even though a lot of us dont agree with everything he says. Now I will turn 620 on at 3 pm again. Wish him a full recovery.
May 11th, 2017 at 7:55 pm
That’s great news. Keep fightin’ Steve.
May 11th, 2017 at 8:17 pm
Can’t wait to hear him come back!!
May 11th, 2017 at 8:52 pm
Awesome news. Glad to hear it. I wanna hear him scream at the joes haha
May 11th, 2017 at 8:55 pm
Good for him.
May 11th, 2017 at 9:10 pm
Don’t like Duemig’s show. Also don’t want him to die of mf brain cancer either. It is an absolutely horrible diagnosis. Glad to see him fighting hard and able to make it back doing what he loves.
…as far as that’s concerned
Go Bucs
May 11th, 2017 at 9:13 pm
…and why is my positive well-wishing enthusiastic comment in moderator limbo?
May 11th, 2017 at 9:19 pm
Ok so I have to admit his radio personality turned me off the last little bit before he went on the DL. Im just wandering how long he suspected something was wrong.
[No need to go there. — Joe]
Normally my favorite talking points from him is when he sniffs out legitimate BULL SPIT and bustes the balls of the bull.
Cant wait to hear him chew the judge out that went off on the USF football coach…
You should feature some of his takes on the more fringe topics here on your site too Joe. Than do the Joe twist on how it some how relates to the BUCS… LOL…
The BIG DOGS is BACK bitc……. Ummm, female dogs and gentlemen…
Cant wait to hear the growling barking biting and of course all the meow men hissing about how sorry The Bog Dpg is!!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 9:24 pm
And yes Joe you can steall it but u have to give it to the Big Dog… Big Dog detractors are from this day forward to be known as MEOW MEN!!!
May 11th, 2017 at 9:45 pm
Thank God for the great news! The 80’s band Cinderella said it best- you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone. We have missed you Big Dog! And no one can come close to filling your shoes. Very happy for Little Dog Jill and all your friends and family. We love you man!
#Dogstrong
May 11th, 2017 at 9:48 pm
@JAB83:
Ever seen the movie Super Troopers? MEOW!! An instant classic…and don’t get caught doing the repeater RamRod!
May 11th, 2017 at 9:49 pm
I might just listen in. Great news. Congratulations.
May 11th, 2017 at 9:53 pm
Great news! Steve is controversial but entertaining… glad you will be back stating your views and creating conversation! Beat this and carry on! Go Bucs and Rays!
May 11th, 2017 at 10:49 pm
Pulling for you Big Dog ! Always entertaining and informative !
May 11th, 2017 at 11:16 pm
No friend of mine, but get well buddy.
Keep pounding that rock!
May 12th, 2017 at 1:44 am
Honestly I have not listens to sports radio since he left. It ain’t the same without him.
May 12th, 2017 at 7:07 am
Best wishes for your continued improved health, Steve.
May 12th, 2017 at 7:44 am
Will be great to have him back, indeed. Great work Steve! And of course, there is sports…his forte. So, the first show Steve had after the ’14 draft (check the tapes!) I called in because he was unhappy the Bucs passed on Johnny Manziel. I called in and told him I didn’t think Johnny was a good fit, and said from all I saw and read that he was the kind of guy who puts himself before his team. Keep in mind, this is just four days after Cleveland drafted him–before the debacle of his partying and debut. Steve told me that satement was “just dumb” and hung up, then said Johnny is “loved by his team.” Well, Steve is usually right on a lot of stuff, but not that! Let the little dog enjoy the nips on the Big Dog. Love the fact he’s doing well enough to come back and wish him the best! Oh…that said…Pat and Aaron did a great job in his place…would LOVE to see them at 0600 on WDAE. So glad Jones is gone.
May 12th, 2017 at 7:48 am
Great News! Big Dog is back! Prayers with you my friend.
May 12th, 2017 at 8:39 am
Great he’s coming back. Even BETTER he’s winning his battle.
May 12th, 2017 at 9:43 am
When it comes to the Bucs, he’s an eternal pessimist. I never find myself agreeing with him. But so what….. I hope he kicks cancer’s ass and goes out on his own terms. Much respect.
May 12th, 2017 at 12:57 pm
This is great news. I hope all is well and the illness is in his rear view mirror.
May 15th, 2017 at 12:09 pm
Glad to hear it! 😊
May 15th, 2017 at 7:16 pm
WOW! ANYONE TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS DIRT BAG GETS CENSORED BY JOE BUT- ALL HAIL THE FIRST AMENDMENT
