V-Jax Says He’s Ready
April 25th, 2017Guess who happened to be back at One Buc Palace last week, the same week the Buccaneers reported back for the 2017 season?
It was a 34-year-old receiver who might be an excellent No. 5 or No. 6 receiver option for the Bucs.
Yes, Joe’s talking about unemployed Vincent Jackson, who was subpar as the Bucs’ No. 2 receiver last season, before blowing his knee out in Week 5.
Jackson was live in studio with Ronnie Lane and Tom Krasniqi yesterday on WDAE-AM 620, and he is eager to play this season in the right situation. Jackson said he’s ready and in shape. He’s also clearly interested in staying top of mind at One Buc Palace. Jackson said he was “around the building last week catching up with some of the staff members.”
Well, if the Bucs walk out of this week’s NFL Draft with only one new wide receiver, then perhaps Jackson has a shot at a sixth season in Tampa.
The Bucs are still looking for help from guys on the roster like Josh Huff, Bernard Reedy, Donteea Dye and Freddie Martino (he of the velvet-lined lounge of the Vero Beach Ramada Inn). Hey, if that’s still the case come July, then why not toss V-Jax into the mix?
April 25th, 2017 at 10:46 am
Agreed. Bring in Cook in the 1st, and a receiver in the later rounds. Add VJax so he can mentor the young wideout. Not to mention he is a big body with plenty of experience!! Win win
April 25th, 2017 at 10:47 am
Why not a veteran minimum with no guarantees, line him up in the TE running the seam if he is healthy would be a nightmare mismatch with him brate Djax and Evans and hopefully cook or mixon or mccafery out of the backfield…teams would have matchup problems all over
April 25th, 2017 at 10:48 am
I have no problem with this. Why not?
April 25th, 2017 at 10:48 am
It would be hard for me to say that Jameis, Doug, Djax, Vjax, Evans, Sims, Hump, Brate, and Quiz wouldn’t be my favorite group of offensive players all time.
Throw in Alstott and it easily would be. OJ howard would be icing on the cake.
April 25th, 2017 at 10:50 am
Bring in a receiver in the early or late rounds. Add VJax! Win!!
April 25th, 2017 at 10:52 am
elvis thought he was ready when he mounted the toilet too… how’d that end up…
no no no no no, thanks for the past but he was done two years ago. let it go fan boys… it’s time to win a championship the team is not a charity for washed up players and fan favorites. next see ya
April 25th, 2017 at 10:53 am
He’s a pro. Knows the offense and the players.
If the attitude is right about a reduced role and his health is there then absolutely bring him back. Great depth and leadership.
April 25th, 2017 at 10:55 am
Lol, Dusty I think you’re going to be disappointed tomorrow night. You left of the one RB that is most likely to be in Tampa next season. It’s ok though, I think you will learn to love Dalvin.
April 25th, 2017 at 10:56 am
Do it!
April 25th, 2017 at 10:56 am
so you take away a special teams player on an already limited roster in the hopes a senior citizen who has not produced at a high level in 3 years makes 10 to 20 plays… sorry that is not how you win a championship and stop with all the BS mentor, leader BS…. vjax is a good man, as a vet I have tremendous respect for him but has a player it’s over…
April 25th, 2017 at 10:56 am
I’ll take him over Huff, Martino, and Dye any day tmax. Healthy, of course!
April 25th, 2017 at 10:56 am
Tmax, you think Freddie Martino is the answer?
April 25th, 2017 at 10:56 am
Make damn sure you get MIXON THE MIDIGATING FACTOR!
April 25th, 2017 at 10:58 am
TouchDownTampaBay
absolutely not but living in the past does not work. vjax time has passed there are many other options than martino but if that’s the one you want to hold onto so be it.
April 25th, 2017 at 10:59 am
licht knows the right thing to do is:
Cook rd 1
goodwin rd 2
replacement for the leader of the losing culture 3
4 te
April 25th, 2017 at 11:01 am
Bucsfanman
again stop living in the past… those fools you mention are not the only options… Goodwin in the 2nd will do nicely
April 25th, 2017 at 11:01 am
He knows the system. He’s a consummate pro, on and off the field. The younger receivers may become solid players at some point but with VJax you know exactly what you’re getting. He’s been there and done that.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:03 am
He knows the system. He’s a consummate pro, on and off the field. The younger receivers may become solid players at some point but with VJax you know exactly what you’re getting. He’s been there and done that.
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah… meaningless garbage
None of that feel good crap matters IF HE CANT FREAKING PLAY YOU FOOLS!!!!!!
April 25th, 2017 at 11:04 am
tmax- Hey man! 8-tracks are making a comeback don’t you know!!!!
100% agreed on Goodwin!
April 25th, 2017 at 11:05 am
tmax your logic never adds up dude. smh
we let shepard go because he wanted more money and the opportunity to start at wr. We all knew he would have been bumped down to #4 or later on the list with the bucs.
Vjax is better than martino, reedy, and dye. He is an excellent mentor and regardless, he still wouldn’t get much playing time. If we don’t get two more receivers, than there is nothing wrong with added vjax for depth. We could always cut him if he hasn’t progressed.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:06 am
If he gets limited snaps he can be a dominant red zone threat.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:09 am
Telling you he can play inside as a 2nd TE in the slot or outside if the injury bug hits… im ok signing him.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:11 am
Eric
My logic makes perfect sense. you put the most talented group of men with a desire to win at has many positions as possible. vjax is not the best option. between the draft, other available free agents and other teams garbage that will be released between now and the opening of the season will have much better options than a washed up vjax. it’s about fielding the best 53 if you want nostalgia or to live in the past spend your days watching film and visiting museums. it’s about upgrading the roster not keeping washed up fan favorites. he brings nothing to the table but injury risk
April 25th, 2017 at 11:16 am
If V-Jax showed anything at all last year before going on IR, it might be worth consideration. But he didn’t.
Love the person, not the player.
Maybe an option after the draft if can pass a work out and physical.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:19 am
Statistically speaking our best WR were:
Mike Evans
Freddie Martino
Russell Sheppard
Adam Humphries
What I don’t get is how many people were against signing AP but will rather sign Vjax. His knees are done and he’s not on the same page with JW. What’s the point?
April 25th, 2017 at 11:19 am
Why are you people still wanting Cook, and then turn around and say that V-Jax is to banged up and washed up/over the hill. Cook as a running back in the NFL will have some major issues staying healthy and if you don’t think taking him on would be risky, i say that’s dumb.
He battled through a hamstring injury for most of the 2015 season and has had multiple shoulder injuries, which have resulted in three separate surgeries since high school for the running back.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:20 am
I think VJax still has gas in the tank as a big bodied possession receiver.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:21 am
Keeping v-jax on for another year for pennies on the dollar just makes sense.. (to me anyway)
April 25th, 2017 at 11:23 am
Vjax should call Chicago and go play with Glennon. Vjax never looked so good than catching bombs from MGM.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:25 am
touchdown tampa bay…pretty sure cook and dalvin are the same but i digress, really looking forward to the draft…the nfl network mock draft on their podcast gave the bucs the UM TE, and all the backs and rush ends were gone when jerimiah grabbed NOjokiu
April 25th, 2017 at 11:25 am
I would take Vincent Cook back in a heartbeat. 5th is a little too far down the chart though. He should at least be a 3 or 4.
And the only way the Bucs draft a WR this weekend in the first 5 rounds is Kupp or a kick returner.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:27 am
If we do indeed make the playoffs and want a shot at the superbowl this year, having a guy like Vincent in the group would help immensely. Remember, most of our players have never been in the playoffs.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:30 am
We don’t have money to be squandering in Vincent Jackson if he comes back, come back as an asst. to an asst. coach, Stop playing games.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:33 am
stop with all the leadership crap… he was never a vocal leader and Mike Evans has progressed much better with a real wide receivers coach than having a mentor. teams with talented football players win championship take all that mentor bs back to the the church league softball game. it’s the nfl players and talent win not nice guy meaningless mentors.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:35 am
I like VJax, but against signing him because he doesn’t play ST. If we had a larger roster size I would be all for giving him a shot.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:36 am
It would be a great solid addition. I could see him fill in for an injured wr.
Sign him!
In Licht We Trust!!!
April 25th, 2017 at 11:43 am
Future Bucs GM Says
“We don’t have money to be squandering in Vincent Jackson…”
The Bucs have plenty of money under the cap. They barely spent any so far. A one year deal would be easy.
tmaxcon Says
“stop with all the leadership crap…”
According to Mike Evans, it was Vincent who helped him the most, not that I expect you to accept that.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:44 am
Have to consider his lack of interest up until he got hurt. Was noticed by more than a few people. Now could it have been from a nagging injury? maybe, but it really seemed like he was suffering from football burn out though.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:44 am
@Gencoimports
Vincent did play some special teams while in Tampa…but he should not be required to anyway. We have PLENTY of young guys to do that.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:45 am
Would take him in a minute if he was even close to back to his old form!!!!
April 25th, 2017 at 11:45 am
He didn’t want to play very bad the last couple of seasons at 10 mil/year…why would he want to for less than 1/2 or 1/3 of that. He played in a handful of games @ a decade ago. Of course that was a decade ago.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:50 am
bonzi
evans numbers and performances prove otherwise. vjax was disinterested and aloof last year before he went to the beach. let it go he has sucked for 2 years and is done. it’s about the team your blind loyalty to mediocre and washed up players is pathetic. it’s about wins not about individual players. it’s what have you done for me today. loyalty is for losers. just like mccoy no one will remember vjax and all the losses those teams racked up ten years from now.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:51 am
Saying he did not ‘want’ to play is just plain stupid. He was injured and when he was healthy the last two years, Jameis preferred throwing to his younger guys because he was developing chemistry.
That’s more on Jameis. I suppose all quarterbacks have their favorite targets, but the best QBs throw the ball to the target that presents the best opportunities on a given play. That’s why the teams that go all the way spread the ball around so much.
Vincent Jackson is a good, solid backup at the very least. Probably a top-notch backup. We would be fools not to want him.
You can bet that if the Bucs do not draft a WR this weekend, everyone against Vincent will change their minds.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:53 am
tmaxcon, grow up, man. You forget all those drops Evans had? It was Vincent that helped him through that and taught him how to prepare in the off season. Your denial doesn’t change that. I hate to break it to you, but you are not always right. Neither are your opinions.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:54 am
And your hatred of McCoy have made you a long-standing joke around here, except for the few drones that agree.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:55 am
His legs and body are fresh,he only played 14 games the past two seasons. We should get at least 6 games out of him before he go on I.R.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:56 am
bonzi
grow up because I don’t nut hug the same players you do. really that’s the best you got. not to impressive for a legendary writer. you have no clue about the day to day relationship of a single buc player. you are delusional if you think otherwise. the only person more inaccurate on their takes each day is the weatherman bonzi
April 25th, 2017 at 11:58 am
bonzi
is your little snowflake butt hurt because mccoy has been exposed as a fraud.
April 25th, 2017 at 11:59 am
Buccaneer BrownEye’s Scouting Reports:
Aguayo awesome/misunderstood
David a bust
Bradley McDougall is the Ronnie Lott that “got away”
Vincent Jackson is just getting warmed up
J.J. Wilcox is a bum…but slow CFL receivers rock
Lovie had more gas in the tank than even Vincent Jackson
Best stick to that Elf Erotica smut you’re peddling on JBF and leave the football analysis alone!
April 25th, 2017 at 12:01 pm
I don’t know how you have a 5th or 6th receiver on your roster that doesn’t play special teams.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:01 pm
VJax is only back if they fail to get a receiver they cover IMO.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:03 pm
A lot of you have it very backwards. You draft receivers early and RBs later, not the other way around if you want success.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:06 pm
i don’t see a 34 year old VJax running down the field trying to tackle a punt returner, and that is what your #5 or #6 WR needs to be prepared to do. kick coverage has been a key to alot of our wins, and the team loves speed on those units. you can all but guarantee that our top 2 WRs as well as any high draft pick at the position will be kept off of special teams. VJax would make 4 WRs our of a possible 5 or 6 on the active roster who have no role on special teams.
If Evans or your rookie future stud gets badly hurt (god forbid), then maybe you give VJax a call. But with our top 2 being what it is and a likely #3 in the draft bumping humphries down to #4, you just can’t have a VJax type vet warming the bench and not contributing between the lines
April 25th, 2017 at 12:07 pm
Can somebody, anybody, name one 5th or 6th WR in the NFL that DOESN’T play special teams? Even most #3 WRs play special teams… all #4 guys do. Just the assertion that we would sign Jackson to take up a valuable roster spot of a guy that can actually contribute is ridiculous.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:07 pm
tmax you have no idea how well vjax could be at this point. I was only suggesting that we could give him the chance to compete for a #5 wr position. You sure as hell don’t know if he is better than any other receiver available. Nobody does. But I’m confident there wouldnt’ be much more or better than to fill a depth role.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:08 pm
He would be a great situational reciever but someyhing tells me he retires
April 25th, 2017 at 12:09 pm
Good point no way in hell he plays special teams….
April 25th, 2017 at 12:09 pm
Who the hell said vjax couldn’t play special teams?
you guys are just speculating, like everyone is.
Nobody is advocating for it, just open to the idea.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:21 pm
tmaxcon…I concur and one thing Vjax might have going against him is he’s a Dom man. Not a Licht man.
It really is time to move on folks.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:26 pm
Hmmmm, let me see…..Huff, Dye, Martino or VJax? Gimme VJAX all day everyday over any of those clowns. Especially Huff! If Huff wastes a spot on the roster this season I will have to question Licht’s mental status.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:27 pm
rayjay…Huff’s going to return kicks.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:28 pm
If the price is right and VJax is healthy – there’s no reason not to sign him to a 1 year deal. He’s instantly the 3rd best WR on the roster pre-draft. Even if he is relegated to a 3rd, 4th or 5th spot on the depth chart – he’s a great insurance policy if (more like when) DJax has to miss games.
If the Bucs don’t draft a receiver on day 1 or 2 this week – then bringing back VJax would be kind of a no brainer IMO if the price is right. Even if they do draft a WR high – it still makes sense as long as VJax understands and fully accepts his role and place on the team.
VJax ain’t done yet – even at 34. He takes very good care of his body.
Good luck to nickle CBs and Safeties trying to cover him out of the slot with Evans and DJax on the outside. Would be more like basketball/baseball than football. Box out – pitch and catch – 1st down.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:30 pm
This would suck ass
April 25th, 2017 at 12:31 pm
Joe – what about Derel Walker? I see you mention the lounge acts from last year, but this kid was brought in after the season and has been doing offseason workouts with the crew right? Read pretty good praise on him after the signing out of his CFL career. Any thoughts or word on him adding to the mix?
April 25th, 2017 at 12:32 pm
you could very well be right about vjax not coming back. I also believe that’s the most likely scenario.
However, you said he’s not a licht man, well licht decided to pay him 11 mil for a year in which we all knew he was going to drop in production. Evidently they see more value in him then just his ability.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:40 pm
Martino!
April 25th, 2017 at 12:40 pm
Tony from Los Angeles is exactly right.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:47 pm
@87
If Huff is going to return kicks we are screwed. LOL He is a comedy of errors.
April 25th, 2017 at 12:53 pm
I would rather have a player like Georgia Bulldogs WR Isaiah McKenzie as my 6th WR. A player who can take it to the house on Kickoffs and Punt Returns. And can play in the Slot, and can run the ball. A 22 year old with 4.4 speed.
April 25th, 2017 at 1:04 pm
So because you haven’t been on a bicycle in 3-10 years does that mean when u get back on you have no idea what to do? You wouldn’t be able to teach a child how to ride? Asinine. VJax is a veteran that played receiver at a high level in his career.! How a veteran receiver couldn’t help a rookie is beyond me. Y’all Armchair GMs think y’all know it all. Cook @19
April 25th, 2017 at 1:19 pm
Well, thanks to tmaxcon & Bonzi I’ve had my shot of comedy for this morning. Agree with tmaxcon on this one … Bucs have moved on from VJax. We’ve got ME13, DJax & Humphries … those 3 will probably get most of the WR targets. Huff & Walker are both very talented & should stick. Add in a speedy WR from the draft & voila, we’re up to 6 WRs right there (surely the most we’ll carry into the season). All probably have 3 or more yrs to give us. VJax at best will give us 1 yr … providing he doesn’t blow out his knees again. The only scenario I can see VJax returning as a Buc is if the injury bug devastates our WR corps again. If that should happen then bring him back & see if he can add anything. If not, back out to pasture.
April 25th, 2017 at 1:26 pm
I also agree with tmax here. There just isn’t a point in bringing him back. He really should just call it a career at this point. Love the guy, but his time is up.
April 25th, 2017 at 1:27 pm
he can still produce when uninjured and could easily be a starting 3 or 4
April 25th, 2017 at 1:35 pm
People crack me up, a guy struggles through some injuries and suddenly all his ability to produce vanishes?
And he’s not Doms man, he’s a Buc through and through, one of the the truest Bucs we have had here for years both on the field and in the city.
It’s laughable if you don’t think VJax would be an upgrade to any of our WR’s after Mike, Desean, and Hump. He’s head over heels an upgrade to anyone after them when healthy. Not to mention what he brings to the locker room which is more than any other WR on our roster brings in that aspect. He took Mike under his wing and groomed him to the professional he has become.
Don’t be so quick to dismiss a mans accomplishments.
IMO if he’s healthy give the man a shot, he’s earned atlas that much. Both from the organization and from the fans.
April 25th, 2017 at 1:36 pm
For the right price keep him
April 25th, 2017 at 1:37 pm
Keep him around as someone you can’t rely every week on, but maybe he can step in when D Jax gets injured. I mean look at the depth chart. But as I said you can’t count on him – but if he’s healthy and when he’s healthy he can still contribute.
April 25th, 2017 at 1:58 pm
@PRBucFan
Two things you said are the main reason to move on. “When uninjured” and “if he’s healthy”. I don’t have much confidence at all that he can stay healthy a full season and if he can’t then why bring him back?
He is coming off a 2015 season where he suffered from an MCL injury and then last season tears his ACL. Now at 34 the injuries will just stop? I doubt that.
April 25th, 2017 at 2:05 pm
On one hand if Evans or D-Jax go down, V-Jax would be nice insurance. On the other hand, the Bucs need to develop some young talent and maybe could/should the roster spot for that.
April 25th, 2017 at 2:16 pm
@TMaxon, thanks for being the voice of reason here..>!!
April 25th, 2017 at 2:30 pm
I keep forgetting about that Walker kid. Supposedly, he was top dog in the CFL.
April 25th, 2017 at 2:31 pm
Like always I’m wit you Tmax..
April 25th, 2017 at 2:32 pm
I like how you can’t find a fit for Christian McCaffrey because “Adam Humphries plays the slot” but if we only draft one receiver this weekend, there’s a spot for Vincent Jackson…
Hm.
April 25th, 2017 at 2:44 pm
Anybody done any research on this Walker kid?
LUV? Where you at?
Nole? You know anything?
OK Google!!!!
April 25th, 2017 at 3:02 pm
According to Bonzai Walker will be better than DeSean Jackson. Idk if that helps you out at all.
Other than that I think he went undrafted and couldn’t make the Titans practice squad, cause they have a bunch of studs over there………
Then he went to the CFL and, I believe, dominated. Dont know the exact number off the top of my head.
April 25th, 2017 at 3:08 pm
He would be an ideal 4th receiver.
And he is a great backup for Mike Evans!!!
If Mike goes down, heaven forbid, V-Jax can fill in for him.
Plus,
Mike Evans LOVES V-Jax like a father. They are both bi-racial American spirits.
Please, Mr. Licht, sign Vincent Jackson!!
For Mikes sake!
April 25th, 2017 at 3:10 pm
So, in a nutshell Joey, we’re good!!! LOL!
Yea, I don’t know, signing VJax should be a last resort type thing. In that light, I’m not opposed. I just don’t trust his health.
April 25th, 2017 at 3:10 pm
The only thing I like about the idea of Keep in Vjax here for another season is that is we suffer an injury at wide out Vjax gives you a more then capable replacement. Say what you will but lack of capable players at the position killed us last year. Just go back and watch the loss in Hawkins and tell me what our recievers, opposite Evans, did right.
And just because we draft a WR doesn’t mean they will be able to perform at the pro level.
We have 3 holes at WR currently. VJAX FILLS one of em
April 25th, 2017 at 3:14 pm
Right because he has been riddled with injuries his whole career…
And no aging receiver has ever been hurt late in their career and ever come back to produce.
Gotcha.
April 25th, 2017 at 3:15 pm
But I’m glad out of all that I posted there that’s all you took from it.
April 25th, 2017 at 3:19 pm
Regardless of anything said here
I trust Licht to make the assessment of whether he’s fit to return.
If we don’t see the signing, there’s your answer.
But I’m not naive enough to say with certainty because he’s older now automatically he won’t be able to stay healthy. Plus VJ is the kind of man that will hang up the cleats when he feels he’s reached that point.
Anywho. We shall see soon enough.
April 25th, 2017 at 3:20 pm
Face it, we got a lot of holes on this team. Especially from a depth standpoint. We are not going to be able to draft our way out of it.
Won’t shock me if they bring in an aged vet at WR to play behind Evans and Desean…….whether it be Vincent or somebody else.
Only problem is finding a proven player happy to accept a bench role. Vjax doesn’t seem to mind. I’d be talking dollars if I were the Bucs right now
April 25th, 2017 at 3:22 pm
I can accept that Port Richey
April 25th, 2017 at 3:42 pm
We still need a WR/PR, can VJAX fill that need?
April 25th, 2017 at 3:49 pm
If healthy the guy can still play, I have no doubt.
April 25th, 2017 at 3:50 pm
Doesnt matter how many injuries he had his whole career or if any other receiver his age has bounced back. Each case is different. He has had 2 seasons in a row with injuries to significant ligiments in his knee. His last 2 seasons, as I stated. So if your reasoning for thinking he will bounce back is because he was healthy in his 20s and other players have, I dont agree with that.
April 25th, 2017 at 4:01 pm
What’s funny is Jason’s not even planning on drafting a running back in the first round. Alot of you guys have been calling people names because they don’t want to running back in the first round. A lot of us are really grateful you have nothing to do with the Bucks draft room. Get that defensive end we need Jason unless oJ is there
April 25th, 2017 at 4:01 pm
I think Tmax is 100% correct here. Vjax epitomizes class but as a receiver he hasn’t shown ANY evidence the last two seasons that he can create separation on the field or even stay healthy. Our coaches have also been upgraded tremendously since Lovie era so we don’t have an overwhelming need to a low production veteran type any more. The new young guns should be all over Monk, Jameis, and Evans for help and mentoring on the offensive side now. If we didn’t take the chance w AP FOR 3 MILLION, what makes you think we see Vjax back?
April 25th, 2017 at 4:25 pm
ImJust. Not very comparable situation with AP and Vjax. We have 3 holes on our roster at WR. You can’t say the same about halfback
April 25th, 2017 at 4:53 pm
Joeypoppems Says
“According to Bonzai Walker will be better than DeSean Jackson.”
I said he’ll have better stats actually.
So far as the exact numbers he had in the CFL It was:
2015 12 GAMES: 89 receptions, 1,110 yards, 6 TDs, 12.5 yard average.
LG: 62 yards
2016 18 GAMES: 109 Receptions, 1,589 yards, 10 TDs, 14.6 yard average.
LG: 104.
He totaled over two years 198 receptions, 2,699 yards and 16 TDs.
That is pretty darn good.

JimmyJack, actually, we have no holes at WR, but one spot could be improved. Two at most. People just aren’t seeing it…yet.

Wow, I was able to scroll down a bit without negative comments about players on the team and no recriminations against posters being “nuthuggers.” A brief respite from classlessness. Go Bucs!
April 25th, 2017 at 5:27 pm
VJax is done. No separation. Every throw was a porthole. Don’t count Martino out. Great hands. And, Jameis likes him.

People worried about taking away a special teams player? Do they realize that special teams is being taken away more and more every year? Kickoffs are nearly non existent. What do you need a wr tackling anyone for? We pay defenders to tackle. We pay WRs to catch. Taking a wr spot and dedicating it to special teams is an injustice to any offense. #weaponsforwinston, except when it comes to Wrs we need them for special teams…
complete more passes, get more first downs, no need to punt.
April 25th, 2017 at 6:09 pm
CFL stats? You realize that players that can’t make a teams practice squad end up in the CFL? There are many college teams far and away better than any CFL team. This doesnt walker can’t be good. But CFL stays isnt a really good gauge… just sayin.

Bring vack VJax. At the very worst he’ll be better than Reedy, Martino, Bell, etc.
And again at the very worst he can serve as a mentor to whichever young WR we draft (hopefully).
Sharpen those pencils!
April 25th, 2017 at 6:42 pm
I’d say sign him. He can block in the run game downfield very well too.
I’m also interested to see how Derel Walker performs. Could be an x factor guy. Cut Reedy, Dye, Martino. BAM Vjax can play some TE too.
Gotta come on the cheap though… maybe some incentives.
The Bucs are better with VJAX on the team than Huff, Dye and Martino… I think you’d be hard pressed to argue that… Only concern I have tho is special teams guys.
April 25th, 2017 at 6:48 pm
Sign him for an encore in the #4/5 role. And draft one in that same role too. I seriously don’t think VJax would mind the mentor-of-the-WR-of-the-future role.
That would be quite the depth. Someone else can play special teams.
April 25th, 2017 at 7:02 pm
Really Bonzai, people just aren’t seeing it? Uh, yeah I know that because there is nothing to see. No body on the roster under Humphries has done anything worth mentioning in the league.
And when Vjax went down there were plenty of snaps for our #4-6 recievers to stand out. But that didn’t happen now did it?
These guys we got can’t get open and that ain’t changing this year. No chance this team enters the seadon with the same scrubs at WR that we had last year.
April 25th, 2017 at 7:19 pm
Me personally I would sign a 36 year old Anquan Boldin before I sign VJAX.
April 25th, 2017 at 7:40 pm
IF I had to, I’d pay Jackson the Veteran minimum to come back. No more than that. Something tells me the Bucs just might do that.
April 25th, 2017 at 8:17 pm
That’s fine Joey. You don’t need to agree with me, we can agree to disagree. The fact that he had an MCL sprain and a ACL tear does by no means mean the world is over in terms of his career. My point for saying it’s been done before is simple enough. It’s not impossible. Obviously each case is different and obviously I’m not talking about his 20s. He’s never been injury prone that’s the point, no reason to think he can’t come back from this injury just because he’s had two injuries consecutively.
All that said, if he signs to a cheap contract, none of that matters because the reward would be much greater than the risk. We have enough WR fodder on our depth chart that does nothing productive to begin with. So no harm no foul other than a cheap contract which his locker room presence would more than make up for.
But again. We can agree to disagree. No need to keep this going lol.

Every time I read it, it makes me laugh. My question is, is there really a velvet lined lounge at the Vero Beach, Ramada Inn? I just may have to stop there for a beer and a shot the next time I trek to the state of Florida…lol…silly
April 25th, 2017 at 9:57 pm
Hey Rob you and Jason are boys huh? He gave you the inside scoop? We are going to draft a DE even though we used a 2nd last year on one and we are pretty deep at that spot. But I get it, lets use our 1st pick on the 5th best DE in the draft.
April 25th, 2017 at 10:03 pm
Hey BucRuss, Nope..no velvet lounge in Vero, I use to have a Girlfriend in FT Pierce..back in the day…But the velvet lounge touch is humorous. Vero Beach does have some nice little spots though as does the coast line all up and down St Lucie County. If you ever in the area, get your beach attire and just chill a few days…Ohh..and check out the less crowded lower western side of the state. Its probably all crowed now though. Back when I was a kid. From Sarasota on down was beautiful. I’m thankful I was able to enjoy Fl back in the 60’s/70’s before the..Locaust moved in!!!
April 25th, 2017 at 11:57 pm
Just id agine Evans.d jack and insert draft wide receiver…And Vincent in the slot.once in a while ..would blow defense coordinar mind.and the mentoring… Bucs keep it classy minus a few guys.. Give him one year contract so new guys get a great example
April 26th, 2017 at 1:24 am
I say sign to the league minimum and have him continue to mentor our young receivers. He can still give you six yards a catch and would block downfield on run plays.
In our first 4 rounds we need RB1, TE2, WR3, SS2, DE3, CB4 so I hope we pick up and extra pick or two by trading down in the first, even if we get another 2nd, third and 5th. This is such a deep draft we should be able to find good rotational starter/depth into the fifth round. I think our first pick should be impact.
2nd rd (from Trade Back) Adore Jackson CB4/PR/KR,
Elite returner and will beat out Jude for slot duties & take over for Grimes late-season
2nd rd Donte Foreman RB 1
this man beast lost a child last season and still rushed for 2,000, ultimate production and doesn’t fumble or isn’t a head case like Cook
3rd rd (from Trade Back) Chris GodwinWR3
will be great on outside after being groomed by D&VJax, wanted Zay Jones but he is going late 2nd
3rd rd Carl Lawson, DE,
Excellent Motor to replace Ayers next year and get a occasional spot start this year
4th rd Buck Hodges TE2,
will be a weapon in Red Zone at 6’6, get Stocker to teach him to block at NFL Level
5th rd (from Trade Back) Carlos Henderson WR4 Great Slot and share return duties with Adore
5th rd Eddie Jackson, S, could start this year if Tandy does play well, will fall due to injury
6th rd used to Trade up in Fith to get Jackson Early
7th rd Toms C, Will Start next year if gain some weight and Muscle
Weapons for Jaboo and great depth at very Thin Positions(RB, TE, WR, DE). Plus keep our SP elite with Jackson and Henderson….
April 26th, 2017 at 1:05 pm
Cook is trash we aren’t drafting trash In the 1st rd and the only way I want to see vjax on the sideline is either as a coach or for free considering he robbed us for 10mil last year
April 26th, 2017 at 8:45 pm
Vincent Jackson had 570 yrds, with a 16.5 yrd average
Thats more yardage than half our recievers will have in their career.
Hes not gonna start. 10-15 plays a game, he’ll hold up all season.
Hes still a killer in the red zone.
And he would be better than, Huff, Reedy, Martino, and dye at 50 years old
Of course we sign him, and send him off in style, getting him back to the playoffs.
Most teams would kill, to have a 5th or 6 th reciever with Jacksons talent!
