Jameis: “Baseball Might Be There One Day”
April 24th, 2017Joe interrupts the pre-draft frenzy to give legions of Buccaneers fans heart palpitations.
America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, spoke to the Talk of Fame Network this week (full audio below) and was asked how serious he was about baseball.
For those unaware, Jameis was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of high school but declined and became a two-sport standout at Florida State University. His high-octane fastball officially was unplugged by his Buccaneers contract.
Jameis explained that while he’s a football player now, his baseball dreams are not totally extinguished.
“I was really serious about baseball,” Jameis said. “As a matter of fact, my agency is a baseball agency. They really thought I was going to be a baseball player. But this football thing ended up working out for me. It was a dream of mine to be a NFL quarterback and be a pro baseball player. But the way time has changed that isn’t really allowed any more. Being from Bessemer, Alabama, seeing Bo Jackson and hearing that name around a lot, that was a dream of mine. You never know. Football, the lifespan of this sport is not really guaranteed, so baseball might be there one day.”
Jameis went on to say he has no interest in being a two-sport player, just one job at a time.
Joe absolutely does not think Jameis is seriously considering baseball. But who knows what the future holds? Concussions have derailed plenty of football careers, and maybe Jameis is the kind of guy who would win a couple of Super Bowls and then look for a new dream.
If that played out, then Joe couldn’t be upset with a man chasing his passion, even if it kicked Bucs fans in the gut.

No chance he plays baseball, he knows where his bread is buttered

Was Mr. Winston a starting pitcher or a relief pitcher in college?

Just last week I was told Jameis ain’t going nowhere. #2020
I argued if he don’t win, if he doesn’t get what he needs to win rings, if his career is stifled by the Bucs Jameis will leave. Jameis has options, if not in the NFL apparently in the MLB, I bet he can even go to the NHL.
Imo he would be a two sport athlete now if not for the TB media. The people saying “you have to put a clause in the contract that he can’t play baseball”.
I invision a world where a gifted athlete can beat a division rival on Sunday afternoon and then close out a game on Sunday night. #THEMESSIAH #FightThePower #StayWOKE

I could see him playing MLB someday but not before he has wrapped up a HOF career in the NFL … or had a doc tell him “one more concussion and you’re done” …

I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight thinking about this one

In that same article, he went on to say jokingly he’s imagining himself being a 50 year old baseball player. He does want a long long football career. Not a 2 rings and out kinda thing

Dude just shut up about baseball!!!
The only time I want you playing baseball is if you are 5 or 6 years in and are still turning the ball over 24 time a year then be my guest

He brings up Bo… always a dagger to those of us that weren’t just bandwagon riders under Dungy and were there before. Steve Young at QB with Bo Jackson in the backfield – what could have been. But then Bo choose baseball over the Bucs.

jameis is playing 10 plus years of football no question he loves the game
too much and if we are successful why would he leave? i’m sure he’d love to play baseball but i think he’s just throwing it out there because he’s so young and smart and knows that your career in football can come to an end so i think he’s just throwing it out there saying that could still be a possibility

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: You deserve a Pulitzer Prize for photography with that photo of Jameis.
