Dirk Koetter Talks Adoreé Jackson

Landing at One Buc
At the NFL Owners Meetings last week in Phoenix, Joe asked Dirk Koetter about just one NFL Draft prospect.
And it turns out that guy is at One Buc Palace today from California for a visit.
Cornerback/returner/receiver Adoreé Jackson is in town, per Jenna Laine from ESPN.
Joe wrote about Jackson last week, wondering aloud just how serious the Bucs are about explosiveness. Jackson is the big-time-juice player in next month’s draft out of the University of Southern California. He had five interceptions last season and finished his Trojan career with eight returns for touchdowns — EIGHT! — punt and kick combined. Yeah, he’s caught his share of passes, too.
Jackson is a guy Koetter has studied personally, he said. Koetter told Joe he has studied about 100 prospects in this draft,
“He’s a heck of a football player, another guy that’s a good return guy,” Koetter said of Jackson. “Like I said, this is a deep draft. I’m excited.”
Little meat on the bone there from Koetter on Jackson, but it is interesting that Jackson was on Koetter’s watch list. He’s widely considered a second- or third-round pick.
The Bucs are desperate for a difference-maker at returner. At 5-10, 186 pounds with 4.42 speed, Jackson appears to be this year’s Tyreek Hill, without the personal baggage.
If Jackson can change games and develop as a cornerback — in the nickel role or as an eventual replacement of Brent Grimes, then that’s a win in the draft.

Very intriguing prospect. Not sure how he will develop, but the physical traits are there to be a real wild-card. I’m really intrigued by him as a prospect.

Rather go after Curtis Samuel on day 2. That guy can be a kick returner, RB and WR. Truly an amazing weapon!

I have been a SC fan even longer than a Bucs fan. In fact I am a Bucs fan because Coach McKay left SC to start the Bucs. Adoree Jackson is a STUD

If Adoree Jackson lasts until our pick in the 2nd round – it would be pretty good value to draft him there according to most “experts” assessment.
I would prefer to draft a Safety, TE, WR or RB there depending on what happens in the 1st round.

And yet…just the other day Koetter said returners are obsolete these days. Goes to show you cannot believe a word team staff says this time of the year.
For the record, I would LOVE getting Adoreé Jackson on day two.

Bucs most pressing needs appear to be at RB, TE, S, DT/DE & C/RT, with WR not far behind. CB in our early rnds is a ‘nice to have’ but not essential right now. Still think Bucs will stick with BPA measured against their biggest needs in the early rnds (1-4) especially. But then again, been surprised before (like last year).

Not in the vast majority of mocks I’ve seen. There’s probably at least a 50% chance he will bet there in the middle of R2.
I don’t mind the idea of it. Dude has crazy athleticism and upside to improve a lot with good coaching since he’s so raw at the position.

I doubt he makes it to the 3rd but he could be a nice selection in the 2nd as long as we already have a running back.

If Dirk were truly serious about improving the return game or adding explosiveness, Codarelle Patterson would be a Buc and not a Raider

lol LUV yeah adoree’s had some embarrassing performances for sure. That was also what got me into Chris Godwin – who I’d be stoked with in R2 or R3
Adoree’s really raw though as CB in terms of experience right? I guess it’s a bit of a projection in terms of him playing CB in the NFL – may only fit at nickle
At this point I want Cook or to trade back twice to get as many 2nd/3rd round picks in this draft. At 19 we could be a trade partner for anyone wanting to jump Denver for McCaffery or any Olineman. In the mid 20s we can likely move back again to the early 2nd with Cleveland or a team wanting a QB on a R1 contract.
I just like so many players now that should be there Day 2 at positions we need. Imagine having 5 picks in rounds 2-3; or a haul like this

How many snaps has ryan smith played at cb in the nfl? A late rd prispect playing his 2nd position in 2 years can not be counted on to take over for a 34 year old cb. Thats hoe you absolutely set yourself for failure. Hr is at best a plan c.

Speed is key. If he can hold on to the ball and make good decisions snap him up.

What ever we do I hope we make some moves to take advantage of a very deep draft class. While our team does have some places we can improve, we actually have the depth we need at every position currently. We also improved at WR and DL without getting weaker at any other position group.

This kid reminds me of Devin Hester when he came out of Miami. Is he a DB is he a WR, one thing he was for sure was a awesome kick and punt returner. Chicago takes him in 2nd round and I dont believe they ever regretted that choice!

I’ll continue to say, Licht mimics the “Patriot Way” which are high value players with versatility. A guy like this or McCaffrey can fill multiple positions and only take one roster spot. It also increases the chances of the GM having a successful draft. Maybe the kid isn’t great at defense but excels as a return man…or vice versa. This pick makes sense to me, Grimes may only have a yr or two left.

This safety (#22 Barrett) comes into the box and consistently fills the running lanes.
I know the kid probably won’t get drafted.
But if I’m Licht – I would definitely – have this kid on my UDFA radar

We need a CB to play nickle. Adoree’ Jackson could just be the one to do it. 2nd round pick, just not thrilled on adding another 5-10 CB. Cordrea Tankersley, CB Clemson or Teez Tabor, CB Florida, would be great picks in the second as well. We still need a WR, TE and a Safety big time.

@LUVMYBUCS- Say Zay Jones, Chris Godwin, Curtis Samuel are all available when we pick in round 2. Who would you guys take and in what order?
I’ve been thinking my guy Zay is not going to be there when we pick in round 2 (unless we trade back a couple times times, a few picks at a clip). I’m extremely impressed by Chris Godwin, been projected in round 3 (no way he makes it out of the 2nd). He’d be a NIGHTMARE, just like how he was for Adoreé! Curtis Samuel duel threat who burns up the field, jets! It’s a TOUGH CALL YALL. Better call Saul. Pfffff smh, I don’t have a clue who I’d take?! But I wouldn’t mind anyone of these studs with our 2nd over AJ.
For S**TS & GIGGLESS… Zay, God, Sam… There’s really no wrong answer for us and at least one will be there. I think Godwin will be available and if they want him, you better grab him up somewhere in R2, NOT R3.

Curtis Samuel ran a 4.31 at the combine! That kind of speed you can’t teach! You either have it or you don’t. He can play RB, WR, return kicks, and he’s even run the “Wild Cat”! This guy, along with Evans and Desean would truly be a nightmare scenario for opposing defenses!

We need a tall long armed CB not another guy under 6′. Witherspoon in the 2nd would be a good pick. Then take Ryan Switzer in the 6th to be our return guy. Fixes both problems.

Walter football has us takin McCaffrey in the 1st and Goodwin in the 2nd. I would be just fine with those guys as our 1st 2 picks. I personally would go DE (Watt) or WR (Williams or Davis) in the 1st and worry about RB in the 3rd or 4th. But I love McCaffrey so I would be just fine with him at #19.
