Godwin Likes Scrambling QBs
March 27th, 2017Even his detractors will admit, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is exceptional at buying time for his receivers to get open.
Who can forget that crazy play when Jameis did his Fran Tarkenton impersonation against the Bears and heaved a 43-yard pass to Mike Evans?
For wide receiver prospect Chris Godwin, Jameis is his kind of quarterback.
The Penn State product seems to be a target of the Bucs in next month’s draft as the Bucs have had private workouts with Godwin.
Jenna Laine of ESPN confirmed with Godwin that he is due to visit One Buc Palace next month, one of 30 sitdowns NFL teams are allowed to have at team headquarters. Laine got a good get and talked to Godwin about the Bucs, and about how he feels about playing for a quarterback like Jameis who is so effective at buying time outside the pocket.
Godwin said, bring it on.
“That comes with a lot of practice,” Godwin said. “We had a lot of improv plays this past season with our quarterback, Trace [McSorley], just kind of keeping the play alive. That’s something we practiced. Whenever he scrambles, that’s what we call our “scramble drill.” There are specific rules that we go by that are ingrained in the backs of our minds that whenever he scrambles, we know exactly what to do so everybody’s not running into each other or standing still, and I’d imagine that it’s something the Bucs worked on this past year, which is why they had so much success with it.
“A lot of times that can be really good for receivers because you know that your quarterback is gonna do whatever he can to keep the play alive and he’ll always going to be looking downfield. He’s not running out of the pocket to scramble — he’s running to buy himself time to get you open to make big plays down the field.”
You know what jumped out at Joe here? While the Bucs are clearly doing research on Godwin, it seems as if Godwin is researching the Bucs. Noticed he referred to how much success the Bucs have when Jameis scrambles? Seems like someone has been watching Bucs tape. That impresses Joe.
For a speedy guy like Godwin who shows up in big games, drafting him in the second round would be a fine pickup.

“…America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is exceptional in buying time for his receivers to get open.”
Also known as running for his life because his oline is getting savaged play after play.
But only only if you have eyeballs…

Guys is it crazy to compare Jameis to Brett farve with his play or I’m crazy
March 27th, 2017 at 9:26 am
@dallasbuc lol it’s funny cause your always gonna remember jameis running around like he does and gonna blame it on the o line but i can remember vividly watching the chiefs game and seeing jameis having a clean pocket for the whole game (with a backup center) so ya the o line had some short comings but they also had some real good performances against good defensive teams so shut your F’n mouth but anyway i like this kid goodwin if he’s available as we get closer to our 3rd round pick we gotta trade up to get this man

Looks like a strong possibility at number 2 pick. Would love him as a number 3 WR.
March 27th, 2017 at 9:29 am
He’s got some Farve in him, no question. Both physically and mentally.

The kid makes good contested catches. I’m all in
March 27th, 2017 at 9:38 am
I think this kid is a future star in the NFL.
Hopefully, he’s playing for the Bucs…

Sign KAPP….sorry thought this was about a need to have a scrambling QB! BUILD THE DAMN WALL!
March 27th, 2017 at 10:19 am
If we can steal him in the second then I’ll be over the moon.
March 27th, 2017 at 10:55 am
Curtis Samuel in the second. He’s electric!
March 27th, 2017 at 10:57 am
But is he really that fast? Watching the tape he looks to run better routes, not so much top notch speed. Idk.. I don’t see the speed.
March 27th, 2017 at 11:04 am
just another reason, I’m all for doing whatever possible to pick up another pick from the late first through the middle fourth..
March 27th, 2017 at 11:52 am
Would be a good pick. Not sure if he will be there in the 2nd when we pick tho. He fits our system.
March 27th, 2017 at 12:31 pm
Godwin is fast 4.42, strong 19 reps on bench, explosive 37.5 inch vertical, and productive in college he has real good yards after catch potential, Curtis Samuel is lightning fast 4.31 much smaller more of a gimmick/slot type player but more than likely gone before our 2nd pick

jameis is a gunslinger, he will make the throws others wouldn’t dare try, he will scramble buy time, run, block, and yes head butt you if needed, he will throw two interceptions early, and come back with three TD”s late, he will have you screaming at the TV no jameis no, and then having you jumping in excitement yelling to all that are in the room, did you see that, man what a play, i have watched this team since 76 i have seen it all, the good the bad and the ugly, and i declare we will win multiple Superbowls with this young man, lord willing and he stay healthy, he will make this offense as dominating as the defense was imposing in the heydays of sapp and brooks. and yes he has and does remind me of bret favre, i have said that since he came into this leauge. enjoy the moment they do not come around that often. go bucs, go jameis!!!!!!!!

The way Godwin runs reminds me of Hulio Jones. If we can have a well off mans Hulio Jones (no poor mans) with Godzilla13 and Action Jackson, we’ll be doing aaight for shizzle my nizzle!

Dalvin Cook #1
Godwin at 2
dream scenario
March 27th, 2017 at 4:59 pm
Why is Josh Malone not rated higher? I would rather him in the 3rd/4th than Godwin in the 2nd. Check out his highlights.

@JAMEISAINTNOPUNK- Damn right. Anyone that doesn’t see that hasn’t seen greatness bloom. Those that do have been on this kid since his first pass against U of Pitt. My tastes have included Tom Seaver, Bert Jones, Doug Flutie, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, and a few others. Jameis captivates my attention more than any of them. What he’s got, others gravitate to. Multiple titles for sure. HOF, certain.

Good looking player. Appears calm and cool, got stepped on after the tipped pass he caught. The guy that tackled him stepped right on his calf, did he blow up and go off on him, No not that we saw. Go back to the huddle and make another play.
I would love to see the pass play at 0:11 in Tampa a perfect pitch and catch for a TD.
Go Bucs!
