Joe Mixon No. 19

March 20th, 2017

Too toxic.

You know the Bucs need a running back.

Joe knows the Bucs need a running back. But how desperate are Team Glazer and Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht?

There is little doubt the first three running backs off the board in next month’s NFL Draft will be Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey. That’s in no particular order.

But that doesn’t mean they are the most talented running backs available. Some believe woman-punching Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon is the most talented.

He also comes with the most baggage of any player entering the draft since 2015, when LSU tackle La’el Collins, just days before the draft, found himself linked to a double-homicide investigation in which one victim turned out to be his former girlfriend.

Projected as a first round pick, Collins went undrafted, though Louisiana authorities stated at the time he was not a suspect in the case. That’s how toxic he was.

For Mixon, there is no doubt about his guilt. The video is ugly, damning and nauseating. His victim needed an eight-hour facial reconstruction surgery.

Still, Mixon is talented. Very. And one team will draft him; it is just a matter of who. And when.

How talented is Mixon? Respected draft analyst Matt Miller of Bleacher Report has Mixon ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect in the draft.

And guess who drafts at No. 19?

Joe has heard zero word if the Bucs are even remotely interested in Mixon. They wouldn’t tip off anyone in March who they are targeting in April anyway.

But Joe doesn’t get any sense the Bucs would be interested, and Joe is basing this strictly on recent history.

Remember when the Bucs, beyond desperate for an edge rusher, were one of two teams in the running to land social menace Greg Hardy? Licht passed after internal discussions and then told Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times the decision was because he “didn’t feel good about it.”

What didn’t Licht like? Hardy’s alleged woman-abusing past (Hardy was cleared at a second hearing, in part, because the victim/witness never testified and in part because he reached a civil settlement).

Joe is just doing math here,  if Licht didn’t feel comfortable signing Hardy at a dire position of need, it stands to reason Licht probably wants no part of Mixon and his nasty, sickening baggage, and the massive blowback in the court of public opinion that would result in such a pick.

That video of Mixon blasting an innocent woman in the grill isn’t going to vanish any time soon.

I am going to be honesty if some called me the n word and spat on me I would struggle at 31 not to lash out in aggression be it a woman or a man. We are all arm chair qbs on this issue but really never have been put in that situation well I have at 19 I was accosted by a women screaming racist remarks at me because I step on her foot at a bar. She hit and spit in face lucky I had a friend to hold me back or I would hit her. I do not whole story here but in my opinion being racist is far worse then punching a racist. Draft him.

  2. Mort Says:

Yet people are all hot in the pants for Dalvin Cook ‘eh? Not the least bit because they’re FSU homers, I’m sure.

  3. Mort Says:

DirtyBuc: Sticks and stones, brother. Grow up. Assault is never the answer to racism. It’s just not. There is no excuse to blasting some chick in the face. Its unacceptable at any age and for any reason.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

Dirtybuc …so basically since we don’t know the whole story, it’s fair for me to say Mixon punched that girl in the face because she was white.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

    Let’s dance!

  6. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Damn JOE really? Innocent? Horrid journalism
OK JOE. Seems unfair though, your site.
Ijs you typed out a bold face lie…

    Bye Felicia

  8. LUVMYBUCS Says:

That video of Mixon blasting an innocent woman in the grill isn’t going to vanish any time soon

I would hardly call a woman with rap sheet a mile long; innocent.
Especially when she instigated the situation by slapping, and spitting on the young man.

But go head with your alternative facts.

  9. Lue88 Says:

Should he have hit her? Naw. But she is far from a victim. If I spit on shaqs face I should expect a giant fist coming my way. Either ways dude has talent and the NFL is full of dudes with sketchy backgrounds with loads of talent. Look at the bengals lol.

  10. Buc50 Says:

Stick and stones…easy for you to say Mort

  11. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

He is going to be in the NFL and whatever city he ends up with he will be donating portions of his game checks to abuse groups and shelters and will be giving back for what he did, I am sure with the investigative personnel the NFL and its teams employ they know if this is a one time horrible mistake or their is a pattern that is with the guy….i mean if he is there round 2, licht grabbed robert shankguyao this would be a winning pick

  12. Guzzie Says:

He won’t make it out the 2nd round based on talent, not exactly a model citizen like Dalvin Cook, oh wait, Cook wasn’t a modal citizen either

  13. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Dusthty Rhothdes

Exactly – after the vetting process.
I’m sure someone will be fine drafting him–between the 3rd & 5th round.

  14. 941BUC Says:

LIMO joe,Mixon isn’t walking around looking to beat anyone.what I think this young mans issues are anger problems.he needs help. And I’m willing to bet if he gets that under control he can be a beast in the NFL.the bucs have their share of bad rap on players,Jameis,ASJ (which was not tolerated not just because of his DUI his acting out),etc.etc.so maybe give him a good look through and maybe just maybe get him in round 2.

  15. meh Says:

I would not take him in any round.

  16. Mort Says:

Buc50: why is it so hard for all of you to live that? Don’t be a woman-beater isn’t exactly that difficult if you’re a man with any level of character. Yeah there have been situations where we’ve all wanted to just punch some woman in the face because she is just being a hateful, horrible person, but it doesn’t mean doing it is ever on the table.

  17. Guzzie Says:

There are reports Mixon has be going to counseling for the past 3 years, even after his court mandated counseling, that shows character and growth, apparently his interviewing with teams has been positive too

  18. Buc 4ever Says:

If Cook and Howard are gone in 1st round, pick the TE from Miami, then take Mixon in the second round. I’m still hoping we pick up Michael Floyd in free agency (when he is able to leave Arizona) because we need another proven WR in case someone go down. Plus that would give us a great group of WR (Evans, Jackson, Floyd, Humpries). I don’t trust the others. Floyd would come cheap and would give another WR who doesn’t mind blocking and doing the Dirty work.

  19. Joe Says:

    Seems unfair though, your site.

    Innocence—Aggressors Need Not Apply

  21. bucNation Says:

    hell no

  22. BucinPA Says:

    Just… NO!

  23. Dylan Says:

Greg hardy is a animal. A whole different ball game, go ahead research his story. Beat her with a Ak, threw her in a bathtub and tortured her for hours after threading to kill her. Then deny the whole thing. I’m not defending mixon, but this is more like ray rice and his rage reaction. He was 19 so the picture isn’t competently painted here. Bucs might be interetested, they did have Jeremy Stephens the TE who beat his wife. This kid looks sorry and sounds remorseful but stil once he gets rich who knows how he will act. No doubt he would go top 10. He 1 palms passes 50 yards down field as a RB… .

  24. Buc1987 Says:

If your mom slaps me and calls me names.

I suppose it’s okay with you Mixon “types” that I haul off and not just hit her, but knock her out. Put her in the hospital. It’s okay with you…

I mean hey, she started it right?

  25. macabee Says:

If the federal and state agencies say you have all rights of citizenship and you are free to participate in society, the NFL accepts your application for the draft and assigns you a draft grade, and you can really play, you should be allowed to play. I don’t really understand the NFL allowing him into the draft and giving him a draft grade and not inviting him to the Combine. It’s like saying “You can’t come to the engagement party, but you can come to the wedding.”

What the young man did was unacceptable, even inexcusable, but certainly forgivable. The Bucs, like all NFL teams have intense methods and procedures for vetting players before the draft. If it is their decision after such scrutiny, to draft Mixon, I will welcome him as a Buc and expect he would uphold the high standards we have for our team and play up to his ability to help us win games.

Good luck to the young woman as she moves on to pursue her life ambitions and hopefully Mixon does the same. One unfortunate incident on one non-descript evening shouldn’t determine the outcome for the balance of both their lives!

Longtime NFL draft analyst Tony Pauline doesn’t believe Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon will be selected in April’s draft. I disagree! Mixon participated in the March 8th Oklahoma pro day and turned in 1st round numbers. He has scheduled private visits with the Bengals and the Broncos. It only takes one team to pick up the phone, but I have no doubt that Mixon is going to be viewed as toxic by a number of front offices after the video surfaced of him punching the girl.

Pauline acknowledges that Mixon is talented enough on the field to warrant a first-round grade. If that one team is the Bucs at some point in the draft, I will have no problem with it. Some wise person said “Judge carefully, if you must. There is usually a side you have not heard, a story you know nothing about, and a battle waged that you are not having to fight”.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m against taking him in rounds 1 or 2.

    Round 3? I’m fine.

  27. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Buc1987

If U walk to Ronda Rousey
U spit then slap the sh!t out of her.
An immediately – she proceeds 2 knock your punk $$$ out

    Then that’s on U bruh.

  28. RawBucFan Says:

Young woman verbally assaults, spits on & attacks young man: wrong! Young man retaliates & physically assaults young woman: more wrong. Young man being judged & denied the opportunity to better his life & his family’s life: most wrong. We all deserve a chance to improve ourselves & make a living. That being said draft him anywhere from round 1 thru 7. Let the story play itself out & hope for the best.

  29. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  33. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Respected draft analyst Matt Miller of Bleacher Report has Mixon ranked as the No. 19 overall prospect in the draft. And guess who drafts at No. 19?” Coincidence? I think not. Oh wait, yes it is. Mixon comes with too much baggage, right or wrong, for the Bucs to use their 1st rnd pick on him … we’ve got too many other higher needs. Or to even use their 2nd rnd pick most likely. Agree with Bonzai … If he’s still available in the 3rd rnd or beyond, maybe Bucs will give it a shot.

  34. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Wow, I wish I would not have read some of the comments on here. So its ok… NO, so she deserved getting her face crushed because she is called him names and slapped Mixon?!?! WTF?! So when your daughter is out and wears slutty clothes she deserved to get raped? Or more to the point – this is your daughter, she is a dumbass, and she called him a “N” and slapped him – is he still ok?! Yes, your daughter is a dumbass, but does she deserved to have her face crushed by a man who is twice her size and strength?!

Come on people, your better than this.

I am fine with drafting Mixon (later), but some of you insinuating the girl deserved it are going way too far.

  35. NycBuc Says:

So funny, I was just watching football life Jerome Bettie. I remember Rams getting rid of Bettis for character reasons only to select Lawrence Phillips. Mixon is not going 1st round. I don’t think Bucs would select before 4th. Maybe some other team takes a shot in 2nd or 3rd. So I don’t see a him in Bucs uni. They should take a lesson from other teams. Don’t draft problems, pick them up after they mature, PAC man jones or Talib.

  36. Nybucsfan Says:

I would never hit a woman but if you spit and slap someone she got what she deserved. He was 18 and was in the wrong but should not be a death sentence. If they do there homework and think he is ok I can live with the pick.

  37. Maze Says:

If the Bucs miss out on a running back in the 1st then draft him in the 2nd round if he’s still available. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance

  38. Eric Says:

Forget this, move up and take Cook.

And don’t knock a woman out, just walk or run away, or push her away. Lots of civilized options.

And I am willing to wager a large portion of the Cook detractors are Gator fans, all mad at the big plays Dalvin made against them. Just like with Jameis. No class fans that group.

  39. Louis Says:

I prefer Sammy Perine in the 2nd or 3rd. Good size hands and speed…Just as productive without the baggage.

  40. martinii Says:

Guess my initial post was a little too toxic. I believe that some team will take a chance of him and I hope he uses the opportunity to mature into a top RB consistent with the talent he seems to possess.

  41. R2D2 Says:

He can be rehabilitated however, he should not be rewarded by being drafted in the 1st round. No ##1 sin is greater than the other. Let he who’s without sin cast the 1st stone

  42. Guzzie Says:

Louis…Doug Martin is faster than Perine

  43. Guzzie Says:

Brian Hill from Wyoming would be a great pick, 6’1 219 ran a 4.54

  44. Buc1987 Says:

    LUVMYBUCS Says:

    “Buc1987

Then after I live and recover. I’ll say I’m sorry and all’s well. Hell you might even have me for dinner at your house. Certainly won’t mind rooting for success in my life, cause hey peeps make mistakes. It really is too easy for some people to just say well it happened years ago.

    “So U struck a nerve”

lol LUV…isn’t that pretty much my job here at JBF?

All this coming from Winston’s JBF defense lawyer…me. I have very strong belief that JW didn’t do what he was accused of. I also have a very strong belief that this kid has no remorse for what he did. Did he learn his lesson? None of us know that. I also strongly believe that any team that takes this kid has a PR nightmare on it’s hands. I guess all that will depend on the kid himself. I think people will always question his words, just like some do here with our young QB. How he lives his life and acts the rest of the way will be under a microscope. Perhaps he beats his wife, perhaps not. I know one thing for certain, he’ll beat his wife, with or without that NFL money. If that’s who is.

Last but not least. The video matters. No video, not that much outrage.

Why do we have to keep discussing this kid? For clicks? Cause some dude has him at 19? Man this offseason is dragging.

  45. gotbbucs Says:

Ray Rice has barely gotten a sniff since his inccedent and he was a proven NFL commodity that remains married to his victim. I find it almost laughable that people still believe that Mixon will go in the top of the draft. Teams have better things to do in the draft than start a PR nightmare when they still have picks to make in the draft. Compound that with the fact that this is probably the deepest RB draft ever, and you have an undrafted FA that will still struggle to find a team willing to dive into that sh!t show.

  46. Bucsfanman Says:

    My posts keep disappearing!
Real men don’t hit women. PERIOD, end of story!
Boy, he can play football though so, who cares?! SMH

  47. Tom Edrington Says:

Doesn’t matter what anyone here thinks…..the only opinion that matters is that of the Glazers and you ask:

“Hey guys, do you mind if we drop a turd into your punch bowl?”

  48. gotbbucs Says:

The Glazers will not sign off on drafting or signing this guy so we can move on to the next subject.

  49. tnew Says:

I’m still so pi…d about the Collins thing. I can’t believe the Bucs didn’t take him in the 5th, 6th or 7th rounds. I posted this stuff before the draft so I can hold on to it. I could’ve explained taking him in the 5th round in a press conference.

Mixon is a tough call for me to make. You can’t hide from his talent or his character concerns. I’m concerned with his handling of the parking meter attendant as well. What would his stats been had he not split time with Perrine? May have been crazy. But he might just be a product of a really good spread system in a league designed to stop the pass. Objectively, the kid is a stud. Ive tried to poke holes in his game and it is tough. The only thing is that he makes questionable decisions in the open field… oh well, he gets there a bunch.

My favorite is McCafferey, I said that prior to this season. I think the kid is going to have a solid NFL career. But if they miss on him, Mixon in the second is my next choice. He won’t make it to us in the third and drafting him at 1 is too big of a reach due to the character. This is a loaded draft. Someone very desirable will be there at 19, and 25 for that matter.

I am mad that the NFL didn’t bring Mixon in. I would have loved to see him answer the questions.. I believe instead they believe he’s going to be a superstar. They knew he would blow the combine away. I would have loved to watch him move versus Fornette and McCaffery. (Cook’s lack of preparation at the event was troubling, unless he really wants to play in Tampa) The NFL want this to die down and knew that him being in front of the media at that point would look bad and distracted from their event. Had nothing to do with “punishing him”.

  50. Cash Says:

Let me be clear if your drunk daughter calls me the N-word, spits on me and physically hits me in th face twice as I’m trying to push her away…. whatever happens to her after that is on her. Instead ofg labeling this man a woman beater maybe you ought to teach your racist daughters to keep their hands to themselves and act like a lady if they want to be treated like one.

  51. Maze Says:

It won’t really matter anyway after the Bucs make the smart move and draft Christian McCaffrey in round one

  52. BigHogHaynes Says:

I feel you Dirtybuc: I’m a black man and knowing where we come from in this Great Nation, with what we have in the White House, it’s time for all to know that certain sh*t will not be tolerated any longer, I don’t care about her reported long criminal record, you spit in my face male or female, I already know you are prepared for war. Spitting in someone’s face is more than just disrespectful, if I fail to react you’ve taken my man hood, I don’t like that he did it, but I will defend his right to defend himself! Keep your bodily fluids to yourself! We need Mixon in our backfield, just the type of young back we need! Trade back, pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick!! Build A Wall…but not in Mexico dumb a$$!!

  53. DallasBuc Says:

    Make him a Buc

  54. tmaxcon Says:

    BigHogHaynes

I agree with you on this topic. Everyone needs to keep their BODY FLUIDS under-control and accountable. It would really help with the epidemic of fatherless children.

  55. Lunchbox Says:

Pacman and Talib matured? When did this happen?

  56. tmaxcon Says:

    Lunchbox

Talib earned a superbowl ring and has been one of the top 5 corners in the league. I’ll take that all day everyday over the Soft Arse loser Choir Boys led by GMC. Results matter the choir boy experiment failed. Talent wins games not hosting movie night.

  57. Bucsfanman Says:

@BigHog- It’s easy for everyone to say what someone should or shouldn’t have done. Hindsight! Spitting in someone’s face is THE most disrespectful thing a human being can do to another. In truth, though I espouse the ideals of not hitting women, I would be hard-pressed to say with 100% certainty that I would not in this situation. That said, this was clearly a situation that did not START that way. The better man walks away from a confrontation such as this, especially involving a woman. We don’t always have to “step” to someone when we don’t agree with what they’re saying.
IMO this whole mess could’ve been avoided. That’s where the fault lies, he allowed it to get to this point AND he hit her.

  58. rayjay1122 Says:

They were both in the wrong and that is not even debatable. What annoys me though is the whole over used excuse of the offensive N word. If the N word is so offensive, then why is it so acceptable to use it in almost every hip hop and rap artists lyrics? I would think if it was sooooo offensive that it would not be proudly and so freely used by any race. OK, so history tells us that slavery went on and yes it was wrong, as well as segregation. It was also wrong when I was in 7th grade and was forced to be bused across town and would get jumped completely unprovoked by 4 to 5 kids of another race just because I was not their color right on school grounds But maybe not. No in fact that was not wrong at all I guess because there is a big double standard in our current society when it comes to racism and assault.

So back the the whole N word thing. Why use it so often if it is so offensive. Guess what? In Germany, you will not find one single swastika because it represents such an offensive idea and Germans are ashamed of it. And as far as being bitter against another race because of history, well I guess since I have some Cherokee Indian in me, I can hate white people for stealing my ancestors land. Pretty ridiculous notion huh especially seeing as that history did not personally affect me in my lifetime. In my opinion crying racism is merely an excuse to justify anything that a person wants to do to another. Laws be damned.

  59. Lunchbox Says:

I never disputed Talib’s talent. I was referring to his being an immature a$$hole.

  60. mike10 Says:

How you cited the Hardy situation is not as I remember it. I remember it being us and the Cowboys in a race for his services. Jerry Jones gave him the exact same (incentive/play-based) contract we drew up, but since he preferred to play in Dallas (like La’el Collins) he signed with the Cowboys. It was only then that we heard Licht coming out proclaiming he had second thoughts about Hardy. Sounds like we’re giving Licht a bit too much credit.

  61. DBrad67 Says:

There are lines that we all must not cross but as a woman she crossed that line
and now society is deaming her a victim…. I’m truly tired of all the social biases and the norm of it being right only if it’s socially convenient!!! So at what point is she held liable or socially responsible.

  62. Buc50 Says:

@rayjay…I don’t listen to hiphop and don’t use the N word in my conversations and no one in my immediate family uses it either. People think that just because you see “some” black people use it and hear it on the radio that all of us think it’s ok…couldn’t be farther from the truth.

  63. buc15 Says:

Joe don’t be a doooooooooosssssssh….hell to nawl nawl nawl

  64. big serious Says:

we need to get somebody because i saw Doug Martin in Inglewood Ca at the Searing Spoon Resturant saturday morning and he did not look good. He looked , small and weak and had white patchy skin. My girlfriend could not believe it was him. I wanted to get him to sign my hat but i passed

  65. rayjay1122 Says:

    @Buc50

I totally believe you and you do make a good point. I also think this is more common in the younger generation. I actually do enjoy some hip hop, at least the stuff that is not too hardcore. I was not trying to stereotype, so I apologize for that. My main ideas that I am trying to convey is that racism is lame and I wish it could eventually be put to bed, hitting a woman is wrong although defending ones self is certainly acceptable, but I would think a male athlete could have restrained her until security arrived and then sort things out. I personally feel like there is one race and that is the human race. I personally believe in God and therefore believe we are all equal and created in his image, so If I hated someone because of their skin color, I would be disrespecting my spiritual beliefs. Thank you for your response and pointing out my error by not ualifying my statement as to not be stereotypical.

    Go Bucs!!!

  66. MarineBucsFan Says:

I agree with the statement that if Licht picks him it means he did his due diligence and is comfortable with what he found as a one-time incident. If that is the case I am fine with the pick as well.

  67. Jerid421 Says:

First La’el Collins got screwed out of a lot of money because of pure bad luck. His ex-girlfriend got murdered while he was off in Chicago to get drafted in the First Round. Then shady-ass Jerry Jones swoops in and STEALS him for peanuts to bolster an already monster offensive line. The NFL should have stepped in stopped him from going to which ever team he wanted. It was a completely unfair acquisition of talent and by-passed all the mechanisms put in place to assure parity in the league.

Second, Greg Hardy was a flat-out wife beater. He REPEATEDLY beat his girl. And as in the O.J. Simpson case, we all know where that can lead.

Thirdly, unlike Greg Hardy, Mixon’s situation is a one-off. That girl hit him twice, spat on him and called him a “n*gger”. Do I condone the MASSIVE bitch-slap he gave her? No! But can I kind of understand him reacting poorly to being hit in the face. It is just instinctive to strike back when struck. It’s just human nature.

Lastly, Tyreek Hill choked his pregnant girlfriend and punched her in the stomach. But he got drafted simply because there was no video of it!

Plain and simple, Mixon WILL get drafted. And if we banned every football player that had issues with violence and / or a “toxic” past, we wouldn’t have a league. I’m sorry, but I watched the video repeatedly, and this kid deserves a chance to prove that he just reacted poorly to a bad situation.

  68. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

What exactly is inaccurate with anything in this post?
    Thanks for responding Joe…
But yea, the whole “innocent” woman part. She’s just as liable for the outcome.
    Anyway
    Sign him up

  69. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

The 4th round would be the time to get him imo

  70. Dave Says:

I trust them to investigate and make the right decision with Cook or Mixon. If they take one and it blows up, do be it.

Personally I see them drafting Cook if he is there, if not then a WR or DLineman with RB and DB coming in the first 4 rounds as well

  71. 1patrick Says:

@buc1987 will my mom come do to you what the woman did to Mixon? I’m not suggesting that she deserved that, but we can’t paint the picture that’s ok for women to do to men. I wouldn’t be proud of my daughter if she conducted herself the way that woman did. Nor of my son of he did what mixon did. But
the kid can play and that’s the point after forgiveness. Can we cast stones at each other forever?

  72. Buccfan37 Says:

I never saw the Mixon incident video. In some cultures spitting at people is more acceptable, such as Italian. Others may see throwing a shoe at you is more offensive, like at GW Bush.

  73. Joe Says:

But yea, the whole “innocent” woman part. She’s just as liable for the outcome.

Feel free to detail the felony she committed to endure having her face rearranged.

  74. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Feel free to detail the felony she committed to endure having her face rearranged
Felonies Joe, she spit on him, put her hands on him FIRST. while they may not be felonies, these are not the actions of a “innocent” person.
Btw I love this site, and as you can see nothing was malicious in my post… Quit putting me in t.o. lol
I’m being out in mod all morning now, even on other threads this morning. C’mon man

  75. NFLNut Says:

    “an innocent woman”?

Joe … that lady was NOT “innocent”. She hit Mixon before he hit her. I’m no condoning what he did, but she did hit him first, period.

Anyways, I believe Mixon in the 3rd or later rounds is the best “value” pick in the draft and if the Bucs haven’t drafted an RB by round 3 and he is sitting on the board I will be slightly disappointed if they don’t take him.

  76. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

I’ve been spouting off on this for weeks. Good teams do not draft RBs in the first round when history shows a terrific RB can be found later. When a player like Mixon comes along with elite talent that will be drafted much later than normal – that is the exact time for teams to take that risk to get maximum value for that pick and an advantage over the league.

When people talk about Mixon, they compare his skillset to the likes of Le’veon Bell and David Johnson. That is ELITE. He’s not only a terrific runner by is thought of by many experts as the best pass catching back in the draft as well – a true 3 down weapon.

If I’m the Bucs, I’m focusing on WR, DL, DB in round 1 and giving serious consideration to Mixon in round 2 and without question in round 3. Let him donate 10% of his career earnings to making sure people are educated to never do what he did.

  77. SOEbuc Says:

NO F-ING RUNNING BACK IN THE FIRST!!!! I can almost guarantee that Licht and Dirk feel the same way and they bring back Doug. “You know the Bucs need a running back.” What the hell is that Joe? We have a good starter suspended for the first three games (not too much) and three very good backups behind him. I know you gotta keep your ratings up in the offseason and a lot of people do want to hear about what IMO think is something very unlikely to happen but can we pleeeaaase hear some other subjects other than just RB in the first. Lets start talking a lot about possible safeties and WR in the earlier rounds. If you and your followers are right about the RB in the first and he turns out to be the next Earl Campbell I will drop to my knees praising you till the end of time never questioning you again. But till then, I’d like to hear about some other stuff.

  78. unbelievable Says:

Did someone really just try to say he slapped her back? No, he cold cocked her in the face with his fist.

I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve a 2nd chance at some point, but those of you trying to equate a 100lb girl spitting or slapping a guy with a 190lb athlete squarely punching said girl in the face are out of your minds.

Any man that puts his hands on a woman ain’t much of a man at all.

  79. NFLNut Says:

BTW … I find it interesting how Jameis gets killed for having said something that was construed to mean women are the weaker sex and need to be treated as such, and Mixon gets killed for having done something that would say the exact opposite, namely that women are equal to men in every respect and need to be treated as such.

How can both things be true?

Modern, rabid feminism believes that women are equal to men on every level, should be able to fight wars, fight in an Octagon, even “identify” as men as fight men in a wrestling ring etc., yet Mixon gets crucified for hitting a woman who first hit him?

Jameis on the other hand holds Biblical beliefs and said something that made people think he views women as the weaker sex and as individuals that should be cared for by men … and he is also crucified by the media.

Again, how does any of this make sense?

The truth is that “feminism” was always about having the “feminine” aspect of the female accepted, honored and even adored … it was women wanting to be treated fairly and wanting to be respected for the “feminine” creatures they were. Somehow, now in the 21st century, “feminism” has turned into a concept that demands women be allowed to become men and that a woman who does away with everything “feminine” and her “femininity” be applauded … THE ENTIRE THING IS INSANE!

The world is a very stupid place filled with non-sensical people with the attention span of gold-fish and too lazy to research issues and come to sensible conclusions and it just drives me nuts sometimes.

NONE of the draftable players in this year’s draft are sinless … some could be far, far worse than Mixon (Dede Westbrook comes to mind) and get drafted even higher … regardless, Mixon is an amazing “football player” and he is getting drafted to play football, not to be a school teacher, public speaker, politician, etc., … whoever drafts him can always cut him if he does something heinous in the future … I’d take a flier on him in the 3rd round or later for sure.

  80. USFBUC Says:

Happy to see more are opening up to the thought of Mixon

  81. USFBUC Says:

Not sure we need to pick him at 19 though

  82. ISH Says:

I saw the Mixon tape but some of you must have saw one that included audio? Can you give me a link to that? Anyway, you can’t un-see that and like Joe says it’s not going away.. If I’m an owner or GM, it’s a no for me.. to each his own.

  83. Joe Says:

Joe … that lady was NOT “innocent”. She hit Mixon before he hit her. I’m no condoning what he did, but she did hit him first, period.

Good luck finding any state attorney or judge in America to condone what Mixon did as justified retaliation or self defense. Yes, the woman was absolutely innocent.

Nowhere in America does bad or indecent behavior warrant or justify felony assault.

People trying to defend Mixon are some sick and disturbing people.

    Period.

  84. Black Scifi Says:

So much stupid is hard to sort through. One thing for sure is that:

    A) someone associated with Mixon called a person in the crowd a “f*g”.
    B) The friends associated with the man got upset.
    C) Mixon, an associate of the name-caller, was confronted by a drunk woman and accused of being the name-caller. He disputed her claim and was assaulted by the woman who committed, in legal terms, assault and battery that, because of the words exchanged, could be classified as a HATE CRIME.

Drunk, stupid and racist is not a legal defense that applies ANYMORE to white Americans.

Clearly (IE. video evidence), self-defense is not a crime, ANYMORE when the encounter is between an African-American male victim of assault and battery by a white female.

  85. unbelievable Says:

    So in NFLNut’s mind:

  86. 98bucsfan Says:

Not worried about mixon at all. Woman was far from innocent. She spat on him and called him the “n” word. Any 18-19 year old would have a hard time holding back. Also to anyone bagging on cook to make it even, all we know about that is what a woman said. No proof that he touched her at all. I support both RBs and am fine with either one we draft.

  87. 98bucsfan Says:

It obviously wasn’t right by any means however she shouldn’t have provoked a drunk teenager.

  88. Bill Says:

I’m surprised nobody has brought up her story about what happened leading up to the incident. Apparently, Mixon and his friends were harassing her gay friend, and they entered the restaurant in an attempt to get away from them. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but the video doesn’t disprove it. Watch the video and ask yourself, what is he doing walking into the middle of a conversation he’s clearly not welcome in? It seems obvious that this story began before the video recording.

  89. 813bucboi Says:

  90. 813bucboi Says:

Neither party was innocent. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. They both paid for their mistakes. Now move the f on.

  92. Joeypoppems Says:

There is no point arguing about Mixon. This is what is going to happen. He is going to get drafted and the fans of that team will bash him and that teams front office all the way up til the season. Then he will score a couple TDs and as far as the fans are concerned all will be forgiven. I wonder if any Chiefs fans still hate Tyreek Hill.

  93. big serious Says:

this whole thing is because we have far to many women that act like men but want to be treated like a woman AND far to many men with female ways but want to be treated like a man. Now this has nothing to do with race because i am a black man and if a black woman did these things to me i think we gone have a problem. Speaking for myself i don’t think it would get that far but i bet she would have had second thoughts before hitting another man.

  94. Ace WigSplitta Says:

Joe it’s clear ,you have an agenda Jason backed out on Hardy bc he realized Hardy was using Tampa to drive his price up!I don’t condone what Mixon did but the woman hit him 1st stop slanting the story and be a man of character by presenting all of the facts not just the one’s that are convenient for your agenda!

  95. bucs_365 Says:

This guy will not be drafted in the first round. Doesn’t matter where he’s ranked as a player. I think he lasts until at least the third round. I doubt the Bucs would touch him.

  96. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Eric Says
“Forget this, move up and take Cook.

And don’t knock a woman out, just walk or run away, or push her away. Lots of civilized options.”

I’ve never hit a woman in my life on purpose. Accidentally clipped my mom once as I turned to point and didn’t know she was there and I felt horrible.

HOWEVER, my sister was always the kind of woman who would yell and smack a man to the point where she deserved to be hit. I mean, if you tried to walk away, she would follow after, hitting you the whole way. Try the push her away and she would look for a knife (she tried to pull one on me when we were kids and I hit her with a chair; we fought like cats and dogs at times).

I would beat the crap out of any man who hit her…but at the same time, I understand she actually does bring it upon herself…not in the way that abusers sometimes claim, but she actually assaulted people. She was a scrapper in those days.

Now, she wasn’t (isn’t) a racist, but she crossed many other lines.

Joe Mixon could have been pushed and pushed. If it were my sister in that situation (and if I was young again), I would have hunted him down and whipped his tail. But I would not have held it against him if my sister brought it on, even if I did beat the stuffing out of him. A quick brotherly butt whipping and it is done.

Habitual abusers? I would bring the wrath of God down on them. But he had one incident and it MAY have been justified.

Also, I have second cousins who are extreme feminists. I mean, they won’t let men open doors for them and swear a woman can do anything a man can. They behave in many ways like my sister.

Sometimes, equal treatment might be justified.

Mind you, I have never found it so, but then I was smart enough not to date or marry a woman like my sister.

  97. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

At 3rd round or later, if he goes bust it’s no big deal. Take him if we need a RB at that time.

  98. Eric Denman Says:

Would rather have Mixon then that over hyped Cook all the Floridian homers are nut hugging.

  99. Joe Says:

  100. MadMax Says:

Nope! just no….hll fkn no! He’s a head case and we dont need him…..Perine instead please!

  101. Pickgrin Says:

I don’t think we have to worry too much about whether the Bucs are going to draft Mixon.

There are 3 VERY good running backs at the top of this strong RB draft class – and if any of the 3 is available at 19 – then the Bucs will likely draft that player. McCaffrey seems the most likely to be available at 19 and I would be fine with drafting him in the 1st round. If Cook or Fournette were to be there at 19 – then that seems like an easy decision from my perspective.

UNLESS – Corey Davis, Mike Williams or OJ Howard were also on the board (which seems highly unlikely), but in that case, JL might just have go with that receiver/TE and get a RB later.

Odds are that Fournette, Cook, Howard, Williams and Davis will ALL be off the board when the Bucs pick. McCaffrey may be there and would likely be the pick if he is. If McCaffrey is gone in addition to the other 5 named – then the Bucs are likely looking at Miami TE NJoku . If Njoku is also gone – then I have no idea who we would go after. A DL player perhaps or one of the better OL players? or perhaps a Safety like Peppers or Melifonwu or Budda Baker if the Bucs grade any of them high enough to pick at 19.

Anyway – back to topic. Mixon will almost certainly not be selected in the 1st round. He has 1st round talent and without his “baggage” would likely be debated as in the mix for being picked in the 1st round along with Fournette, Cook and McCaffrey. But there are so many other good backs coming out this year that his terrible decision to hit that girl with such excessive force that he smashed her face will likely push him down into at least the 2nd if not 3rd or 4th round. Sounds weird to say that doesn’t it? Its reality though. Mixon WILL be drafted somewhere. The question is how high?

I personally still like Kareem Hunt from Toledo in the 3rd if we don’t draft a RB in the 1st round…

And Joe’s use of the word “innocent” in describing that girl is laughable. Mixon made a very bad decision in responding with the force that he did – but the video shows clearly that Mixon was assaulted with battery prior to doing what he did. He had no right legally to respond with the force that he did – but she clearly committed a crime against him 1st – so the “innocent” adjective to describe her is incorrect and indefensible whether she committed a “felony” or not. Just sayin Joe…

  103. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

We always taught our daughter if you put your hands on a man then expect a man to put his hands on you.

After I saw the video I wanted nothing to do with Mixon but now it’s being said the chick spit on him??? I believe a woman should be maybe slapped or mushed by the face to the ground at the most if she even goes as far to punch a man with her fists but if she kick a man in the mcnuggets comes at him with a dangerous weapon or spits on him she becomes a man peeing standing up and deserves the same treatment a man would deserve. She begged Mixon to give her what she got when she spit on him. I still feel bad a little cause the chick was fine but watching her in the video and her spitting on him not so bad. The fact that he slugged a fine white woman like that says it was bad. If she had been black not so much because they’ll slug a sista just for looking at them wrong ask Ray Rice.

What was the saddest thing, the most horrendous thing in that video was there were so many dudes in there and not even 3 or 4 of them stepped up to defend her honor and put him down but you best believe every last one of them were talking dog about him on tweeter and being all upset and internet badboys. No manhood whatsover in that place that night!

RayJay you whine about the nword and why you can’t say it??? Fear and domination are why they can and no one else can. It was used like that towards them and they’ve turned it into a word of empowermen and endearment and fear for their oppressors. That’s why a whole room of men did not step up………….fear. So does the nword offend you? Thanks to The Longest yard.

Man, BigHog I laid out a long, respectful response that probably took me like 20 minutes to type but it must have gotten flagged by the censor on this site. Oh well. I’ll sum it up by saying I’m Italian and we were slaves long before any Africans set foot on American soil. Virtually every ethnicity has been enslaved or treated wrongly at some point in time. It’s not just where we come from that matters but where we go. Slavery was wrong. We all know it but at what point do we stop talking about it and move on?

  114. MadMax Says:

If we don’t have Dalvin Cook fall right into our lap at 19 then I’m all about taking Mixon in the 4th or 5th round. Historically, how many of those picks have worked out for us in the past. Kwon did but he was the exception to the rule.

  121. cmurda Says:

@DB55. I know you have to be joking. Come on man.

Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law does not create a new type of affirmative defense. The principle that a person may use deadly force in self-defense if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm has been the law in Florida for well over a century.

  122. Buc1987 Says:

LMAO DB…yup. She could have been shot and killed in Florida. “Stand your ground” is a little psycho.

Seriously though if he was a cop and she spit on him it would be a whole different story. Remember when that cop beat that little black girl in TX pool party? He just resigned no jail time for him.

Or more recently the cop who beat up a mother and daughter that called the police on their neighbor? Nothing has happened to him.

And in neither case we’re the women the aggregators. Explain that!?!

So the moral of the story is …..

  127. cmurda Says:

@813 I’m not wrong but it’s not worth debating anyway since we all agree slavery is wrong, correct?

  129. DB55 Says:

  130. DB55 Says:

Btw just so you are aware there is still modern day slavery in the US Correctional system. Private prisons? Maybe you should check it out before laughing it off is all I’m saying….ijs.

  131. cmurda Says:

    @DB55. Fair point sir.

Some (many) cops are on a different level. The law doesn’t apply to them and the power trip that they go on is ridiculous. I will not debate that black folks are discriminated upon to a disgusting level by law enforcement. I believe it and have seen it. I’ve gotten a taste of it myself but nothing compared to what black folks have and continue to endure.

  132. cmurda Says:

@DB55. I’m certainly not laughing slavery off. There’s nothing funny about it and I don’t disagree with you, but I still haven’t gotten an answer on why we all wouldn’t want to move on without constantly mentioning slavery and giving it too much attention. All it seems to do is cause anger and hold back any chance we have of truly just being American instead of sticking a hyphenated ethnicity before American.

  133. DB55 Says:

    Cmurda

    ———–

I’m sorry Joe but you’re wrong. The woman is said to have spit on Mixon and the video absolutely proves that she did in fact illegally assault him BEFORE he punched her. Any defense attorney worth his salt could have got Mixon off based on self-defense … it makes no dfference that Mixon is a man and the assaulter is a female, or that Mixon is “bigger and stronger” … she assaulted him first, period.

What if this happened with Roberto Aguayo and Shaquille O’Neal … Shaq is drunk and Aguayo spits on him and smacks him in the face and Shaq then knocks him out and Aguayo needs face surgery … how would the story play in the media? It would play as that Aguayo was an idiot for messing with Shaq, should never have spit on or smacked him, etc.,.

You know what I just typed is 100% true.

Now … as for people “defending Mixon” … I think you have a point as anyone saying what he did was “right” or even “called for” are despicable imho. I don’t believe a man should ever hit a woman unless his life is in danger, or unless she is obviously tougher than he is (for example if Rousey is attacking Aguayo and he’s scared she will beat him to death, he has every right to knock her out … if he can).

However … saying that what Mixon did could have a “legal defense” and that a good defense attorney could have got him off is simply the truth.

Regardless, when you say that a woman who spit on him and hit him (which is considered the same “felony assault” you accuse Mixon of committing) BEFORE he retaliated is “innocent” is simply not true in any way, shape or form.

In regards to this whole “slavery” issue … I would never want to be insensitive or arrogant enough to tell anyone who’s family members have been enslaved, even in the distant past and who therefore feels personal resentment for such treatment of their family, to “get over it” … however I also know enough about history to know that nearly all people groups, races, creeds and colors were at one time slaves and oppressed.

Even cursory research into the Inquisition will reveal that tons of white, Protestant Christians were tortured and flat out exterminated by the Roman Catholics … and yet no one ever even mentions that today and if some white Protestant Christian were to bring such up as a social justice issue or in the hopes of sparking conversation as to the plight such people have endured, such a person would probably be shouted down and told to just “move on” … so again … the hypocrisy and inconsistency evident in “public judgment”, “group think” and “mob mentality” is in clear display on a variety of issues, not just racial or feminist issues.

  140. cmurda Says:

    @NFLNut

It probably does look like I am being insensitive and I promise that is not my intention. The fact of the matter is that history becomes history. It gets written and will never be forgotten. I can understand resentment and any other emotions. The goal for the country should be to move on and melt all of our ethnicity together to be United. That is where I am coming from when I say to stop constantly talking about it and I definitely never said “get over it”. This was my 2 cents. I respect everybody else’s 2 cents.

cmurda … I hear ya and my comment wasn’t a retort to anything you personally said … I just wanted to chime in on the discussion in general and bring awareness to the inherent hypocrisy of the broader public discussion … basically ALL people groups have been enslaved at one time and oppressed Native Americans, African Americans and any other singular group anyone can name do not have a monopoly on claiming their ancestors were oppressed and enslaved … so … it sounds like actually agree with you in a way.

  142. destinjohnny Says:

what the hell does slavery have to do with hitting women?
Coming from a backround of irish slavery I can and will and comment on that.

All I know is the brothers and sisters that came off the planation where the hardest working most god fearing humble people that have ever walked the face of the earth. The finest humans that ever lived bar none.. When you act out by hitting women then defending that…..You so so so disrespect their sacrifices that were made for u. Enough with the false bravado>

  143. NFLNut Says:

    ^ Well said.

I was commenting on the slavery issue that was raised earlier … I agree it has nothing to do with the Mixon incident …

  144. MadMax Says:

People dont want to hear about irish immigrant slavery, or the Cherokee trail of tears…it messes up their thing to stand on. I was born in the 70s, never owned a slave or was a slave….and I view the past as just that. We’re here and now, 2017…..yeah, get over it type I am…what next? The draft is just a slave market too? Pulease!!!!

  145. MadMax Says:

And I wear my Cherokee/Irish/Scottish heritage proudly….and my black brothers in arms wear their heritage proudly too.

  146. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

You know what? Slavery has been part of almost every culture and kingdom and empire so it’s not such a bad thing to talk about. In America it’s what happened afterwards the American apartheid that shaped this country and that is what cannot be forgiven. That part of history is what the so called moral majority in America doesn’t want to talk about, just sweep it under the rug like it never even happened. That part of history is where alot of anger and hatred come from people like Mixon.

  147. Caseyp Says:

Really never acceptable to lay a finger on a woman as a man we should a been taught different …line 10 men up in a line and when she smacks you more than once and spits in your face going to be a couple of good men that does the unthinkable…and he was 19 years old all the cry baby remarks im reading is unreal, put yourself in a mans world, 99 %of youbwithout quwsrion woukd have mabe done the same….. just saying,if he is sorry and works on his probkems

  148. cmurda Says:

Well said Max. We should get back on track here and draft Mixon in the 5th rd

  149. Caseyp Says:

What happened to treat ing everyone wirh reapect regardless of your color or cred woman or man..bunch of people with your hands out rather then go to work and support your self …on the raciest quote what im speaking on get over it move on stop whinning like a 4 year old…..

  150. BigMacAttack Says:

No matter what she said or did to Mixon, she didn’t hurt him. He definitely hurt her and it wasn’t justifiable Force on Force. A real man would have walked away. I hope the Bucs don’t draft this guy because his temper will get you a ton of 15 yd penalties in key situations that will cost you wins. He’s not worth it in any round of the draft. I can overlook drugs but unjustified violence, I can’t overlook. The Bucs don’t need that headache.

  151. Kim Says:

Why is no one talking about Dalvin Cooks history? He has had problems for quite a while and no one wants to talk about that! Because when he hit a girl it wasn’t on video???

  152. Capt.Tim Says:

    Joe- 100% agree with you
Any man that hits a woman is a coward and bully.
    Period.
I dont care what she did or said.
    And no real man would

  153. BucsFan90 Says:

    MadMax
Actually the irish were not slaves, they were indentured servants. People who voluntarily entered into contracts of labor bc they couldn’t pay their debts or provide for their families. Always amazes me the lengths people will go to try and rewrite history with alternate facts…

  154. Chucklehead Says:

I was a bouncer at a redneck bar while I was in college. Been spit on, slapped, punched, kicked, scratched and called every name under the sun by drunk women. Yet, I never laid a hand on one. Why? Because Im a man, I ain’t no punk.
Why is it with all these vids of college/pro athletes knocking people out (and there sure seems to be a lot of them), they always seem to be knocking out women?
Is this what happens when some super star mellinial gets his ego bruised?
    Is it a generational thing?
Because let me tell you something else. IF, I ever had hit a woman, the guys i ran with in my youth would have made sure I knew I made a mistake. They would have let me know the hard way.

  155. Destinjohnny Says:

I had relatives that were slaves
    Sorry if this offends u

  156. MadMax Says:

Bucsfan90….it was a play towards the current prisoner/slave indignation that was mentioned. Cool story bro.

  157. MadMax Says:

    ^Chucklehead…Exactly!

No Mixon please….just no…..but YES to his mate PERINE!

  158. Eric Says:

    Perfectly said Captain Tim.

Back away. Call cops. Get restraining order. Run.

  159. BucsFan90 Says:

MadMax ah it was a play alright.. make intellectually lazy analogies and play stupid when confronted with facts. Works everytime lol

  160. Capt.Tim Says:

    Thanks Eric
Ive had the priveledge of being assulted by women of every ethnicity.
    Black, white, Oriental, whatever.
Been called every insult imaginable, in many languges.
Been slapped and occasional spit on.
Not one of them hurt either my feeling or my health.
Ussually , Id laugh at’em. Best defense- because the reaction is ussually priceless!

Any man who does otherwise is a P.O.S
    Other men are for damaging
    Women have better uses

  161. Capt.Tim Says:

Chucklehead- I like the way you were raised, Friend
