Redskins Flirting With Dominik?

March 10th, 2017

Movement afoot?

So it seems in the wake of the Redskins firing their general manager yesterday, a popular name in the Tampa Bay area has emerged as a potential successor.

That would be former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik.

That’s the word from the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk the great Mike Florio.

It seems Florio has it under good authority from a trusted source that indeed Dominik is a serious candidate.

It seems folks are missing the burning bush here. Dominik is a logical candidate. Dominik was Bruce Almighty’s right-hand man with the Bucs and, for all intents and purposes, would resume that role with Washington as Bruce Almighty is team president.

Bruce Almighty knows Dominik; Dominik knows Bruce Almighty. Like putting on an old shoe.

There are two questions this raises: One, would Dominik want to work for such a dysfunctional organization, run by Little Lord Fauntleroy, the Redskins strongman, scheming Danny Snyder? Second, would Dominik want to get back in the game?

Dominik, Joe understands, is torn. He’s making decent coin from the four-letter and actually has a family and social life. If he returns to the NFL as a general manager, it’s football first; family second; 80 hours a week in the office or more. Also, he and his family would have to leave Tampa, which has been his home since taking a job with the Bucs in 1997.

That picture is the worst. What a weasel.

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

Ha!!! Just when you think that the Redskins could not screw up their front office any worse!!!!!!

Though I would not wish dominik reign of incompetence on my worst enemy!!!!!!

  3. Buc1987 Says:

    If I’m Dom, I’m gone.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

    He’s Realist’s hero!

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

    @joe

I have heard very differently, word on the street is that dominik has thrown his name into many hats and has been told thanks, but no thanks!!!!

  6. Tampabayucfan Says:

A dysfunctional organization it the perfect place for a dysfunctional GM……just how many players do we have left from the many disastrous Dominick drafts?

GMC, LVD, Gholston, Tandy, Martin (maybe) Correct me if there are others….but, that’s not a very good track record….

    FYI Dotson wasn’t drafted…..

  7. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Redskins would be reaching for browns level incompetence with a move like this.

Get rid of a legit talent evaluator that has built multiple contenders, for a lame duck like Dominik.

Makes me appreciate Jason Licht that much more.

  8. Eric Denman Says:

He’s a better on air personally than a GM and that’s not saying much.

  9. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I said no professional football team would ever again hire Teflon Dom as GM.

If Washington hires him, I will be proven correct. 🙂

  10. The Buc Realist Says:

Saying that dominik is “torn” would be the same as saying that lovie turned down offers because now he wants to give back to the kids!!!!!!

    what a bunch of malarkey!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

I guess you have never talked to NFL GM Bruce Allen or Doug Williams of what they think of the pop-star!!!!

    I highly recommended it!!!!!

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

    @TampaBayBucFan

you better thank Butch Davis in 2013 and 2014 or we would only have 2 maybe 3 players left from the disaster of dominik!!!!!

  13. Lord Cornelius Says:

@Realist – I was just talking with a Redskins fan about this and decided to dig into the drafts Dominic had.

In 5 drafts and 36 draft picks; the only players that have hung around to get 2nd deals are:

Gerald McCoy (3rd overall no brainer pick that the fans hate anyway)
Lavonte David (his ONLY great pick in 5 drafts and still not as big a steal as Kwon for where he went)
William Gholston – run stuffing DE rotational player (not a 3 down DE)
Keith Tandy – backup S with starting potential maybe
Luke Stocker – a blocking only TE

That’s freaking dreadful man. Absolutely terrible. He got 2 solid consistent starters in FIVE drafts. Rest are rotational players still. I don’t count Martin cuz his contract was voided… and even if he hung around then wow great job it was a FIRST round pick on a RB lol they better be freaking amazing

Compared to the core Light has built with 20 picks in 3 drafts or almost half the picks Dominic had:

    Jameis Winston
    Donavon Smith
    Ali Marpet
    Mike Evans
    Kwon Alexander
    Kevin Pamphile
    Vernon Hargreaves
    Noah Spence

I’m pretty sure all of us would be pretty shocked if those 8 guys didn’t get 2nd deals… Even if VHIII pans out as just a nickle CB that’s better than getting nothing out of your pick. Even if Spence just rotational pass rush specialist that’s a lot better than nothing to show for your draft pick. I have high hopes for both. Hell Roberto may even get his sh1t together

Not to mention Charles Sims potentially returning as our pass catching back; and the developmental possibilities of Ryan Smith / Caleb Benecoch / Devonte Bond

    night. and. day.

Lord Cornelius …don’t let DallasBuc see that!

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I think IF the money is right, the “Rock Star” will leave Tampa.
He can always return to ESPN, if it don’t work out.
Talent picking he was not too good at, but he did pretty well managing the cap.
One thing is for sure, it will take a very special person to handle the combined Ego’s of Bruce Almighty and Dan Snyder. Both of them have ego’s that need their own freaking zip code.
Dominick is laid back enough to put up with them.

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

    @lord of corn

Its even worse when you look where he was drafting!!! His average draft position was in the top ten!!!!! meaning he was usually in front of 23 other teams!!!!

  18. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Anymore BUCS news? Quiet today.

  19. Buc1987 Says:

lol Realist you’re making me nauseous.

  20. Joe Says:

I guess you have never talked to NFL GM Bruce Allen or Doug Williams of what they think of the pop-star!!!!

Joe has never spoken with Bruce Almighty and as no desire to talk to an outright liar and con artist. Think more of agents than Bruce Almighty.

When Doug Williams does anything successful in an NFL front office or as a coach, get back to Joe.

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Joe

When mark dominik does anything successful in an NFL front office or as a coach, get back to The Buc Realist!!!!!!!! keep thinking you know the story from 1 source!!!!

its 5:07 and I just told you what time it is twice!!!!!!!

  22. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Mark Dominik never did anything successful in the Nfl.

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

    Redskins,
Hire Dominick, and your turn to the Dumbside will be complete!!

What the heck is going on with that team??? Let all the talent go, then hire the worst office boy in league history!! Are they trying to fold the Franchise?

  24. Blake_bucsfan Says:

LOL Buc Realist keeping it oh so real. XD

Yep. I didn’t even need to go there but you’re right lol. It’d make me too sick to go through the drafts and see who we missed out on every year.

5 drafts should net 10 full time starters that are foundational pieces that re-sign for just an OK to bad GM. A solid GM would have gotten 15-20 and we’d have been “rebuilt” in that time lol.

  26. D-Rome Says:

Just what Washington needs….another empty suit inside the beltway.

  27. Trubucfan22 Says:

I heard ESPN will be laying off a ton of talent over the next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dom is one to get the boot. Him tpfinding a new job sooner rather than later would probably be best for his career.

  28. Drew Says:

Holy Shiite Dick Tracy!!! Buc Realist is on a radical roll.

  29. DB55 Says:

Welp Carolina is getting stronger. Who exactly is going to block Julius Peppers when he come around the right side of the line? And they signed Khalil who is just massive. And they traded ealy to the pats for a second round pick. Hmm, wasting all this value time and money on oline and dline that’s why they suck. Suckas.

  30. Joeypoppems Says:

Matt Kalil was not a good LT lol. I wouldn’t call signing him an upgrade. He was awful in Minnesota.

  31. MarcBucs88 Says:

WTF you talking about? Julius Peppers is a 1st ballot hall of famer, but he is old as ****. In fact, I will only refer to him as ‘grandpa’ going forward. Hardly, anything for the Panther to be proud of.

  32. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @DB55

    1. Not that scared of Peppers. Dude is 37 years old and his play was steadily dropping in GB the last 3 years.
    2. Matt Kalill is not good. Spence & AYers will toast that guy
    3. Carolina did not get a 2nd for Ealy. They swapped picks with the pats; moving up 8 spots. Pats basically got a cheap 25 year old pass rusher with promise for a 5th round draft pick

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Dom had it rough early but quickly figured it out and did well – until the team hired the Jersey Trash ™ Schiano who ran the whole team and reduced Dom to just doing contracts. The Bucs under Dom moved to the current model of not doing signing bonuses – which helps with cap management in a huge way (so long as you’re not cutting guys after year 1). Dom had a decent eye for talent and I think he did enough to have a job somewhere or at least get a second chance – just he can’t ever let a alpha guy like Schiano make him a beta male again.

  34. Tampa Tony Says:

Ha ha ha Dominik couldn’t make the Skins worse than they already are. Awful GM paired with an awful Franchise is a perfect match

  35. Blake_bucsfan Says:

@Rod 2 full time players, and 3 part time players, in 5 drafts.

Those are the facts of the matter. Mark Dominik was an abhorrent General Manager.

  36. JonBuc Says:

Bruce Allen & Dirt Star Dominik together? I do like that, Kirk! ( He won’t )

  37. Buc89 Says:

Didn’t realize Dom was that bad but thinking about the players we’ve had on this team when we let Michael Bennett leave….

    Adrian Clayborn,
    Daniel Teo-Nesheim,
    Daquan Bowers,
    Albert Haynesworth…..

Can’t remember the rest of the D line. Let’s go to the secondary!
    Leonard Johnson,
    EJ Biggers,
    Mark Barron,
    (Forgets first name) Lewis? (Lequan??),
    Eric Wright,
“The Hawk” Dashon Goldson! Oh man what a bust signing he was!

I guess Licht and Lovie had Garret Gilkey playing center 1 game though. Maybe that was Lovie’s decision to start him at center but Licht had to have been at fault for even having the guy on the team.

    Garrett Gilkey…. Oh my god…

  38. The Buc Realist Says:

    @buc89

Don’t even look up the free-agency list in 2009!!! you will never say another word about Licht’s first year if you do!!!

The list is long and many have forgotten as some did not even make the opening day roster even though they were handed guaranteed signing bonus!!!!

Want to know why the Glazers no longer hand out signing bonuses??? Look at that pile of garbage!!!!!!!!

  39. Buc1987 Says:

    lmao Realist

  40. Pickgrin Says:

God the Redskins are a mess right now….

Neither Allen nor Dom were ever any good at spotting/acquiring young talent. Suffering Bucs fans know this all too well. The decade of draft despair from ’04-’13 was so deep that Licht is just now starting to dig us out of the hole those 2 clowns dug for this franchise. I’ll believe it when I see regarding Dominik ever having a decent job in the NFL again.

And I just love how Joe has now cast Dom into the Chucky-like position of not returning to work in the NFL because of his “cushy” BSPN gig. The difference though is that Gruden gets offers (more like pleas) every year to come back and coach – but how many teams have reached out to Dom with an offer of even a Dir of Scouting or Player Personnel Dir job in the last 3 years?
    Crickets……

  41. JMN Says:

Dom and Allen reunited..hahahahaha. The Redskins really are going up in shat flames right now. Something is seriously wrong with that organization.

  42. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Hell, the Redskins owe Mark Dominick big time, for taking Albert Haynesworth off their hands, remember that ?

  43. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Wow, the Skins are imploding like the post-Harbaugh 49ers did. Losing front office people, losing all their best players, having their QB meet in person with the owner to demand a trade. Dan Snyder is fiddling while Rome burns, baby!

  44. Bobby M. Says:

    There’s a reason he’s available…..

  45. mac Says:

I hope Mark Dominik gets a chance to be the GM for the Redskins… That would insure they suck really bad for the next decade… I hate the Redskins…
