Is this now the most exciting offense in franchise history?
It is a fair point Kyle Brandt raised on “Good Morning, Football,” seen on NFL Network co-hosted by Brandt, Peter Schrager, Nate Burleson and Kay Adams, who hasn’t been wearing her porn glasses the past couple of days.
Brandt is all in on the Bucs — not quite like Brandon Marshall — and believes the Bucs now have a world class offense the likes of which have not been seen in Tampa Bay.
“I am so excited about DeSean Jackson. Now look, Cameron Brate is already there. Obviously, Mike Evans is there. Jameis is there. We don’t know if Doug Martin will be back next year … I can tell you this: This is the most exciting Buccaneers offense in the franchise history.
“I say that with respect to Keyshawn and Keenan McCardell and Joe Jurevicius and Warrick Dunn and all the fellas.
“I feel like this move with DeSean was, ‘Let’s go get the Falcons.’”
First point of order: Warrick Dunn never played with Jurevicius or McCardell, which is sad because Dunn bolted in free agency to the Dixie Chicks when Chucky came on board, and Chucky loved Dunn. By doing so, Dunn took the cash over a ring. Now that would have been an explosive offense!
Joe gets what Brandt is saying but that dangerous Bucs offense he referred to when the Bucs won the Super Bowl didn’t get heated up until at least midway through the season. In the early going, it wasn’t much of an offense at all.
So on paper, it is hard to disagree with Brandt. Drafting Dalvin Cook could put this Bucs offense over the top as the best in franchise history.
In short, Brandt, after the wheelings and dealings of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, deemed the Bucs “winners.”

It’s a little early. They need another receiver, another TE, and a reliable every down RB to be lethal. I suspect we will get all 3 in the draft.

Would love to see Alabama tight end O.J. Howard picked up in the 1st round. Brate is good, but OJ would make this offense the best in the division, yeah I said it!! All the pieces are in place to make Jameis very happy!!

Agree w mike the falcons will be down this year. Gonna be tough to come back from that loss and super bowl losers don’t typically follow up with a good year.
Panthers will be a lot more dangerous this year and the aints are always tough for us.
Either way, this is an exciting time to be a buc fan. And I’m talking a genuine real excitement that hasn’t been felt around these parts in a long long time.
Just sign mike Johnson up on a prove it deal and then franchise him the next year and we good to go. What’s the cap hit for assback? “Coach, put me in coach” “get yo ass back on the bench”

Unless Cook falls to us, I say draft a RB later and ride with Martin one more year.
Sign Lacey as a 4th stringer. He’ll come cheap and there is a chance his ankle is healed up and we could end up with a 1,100 yard rusher to replace Martin. Or the draft pick might be good enough. Double our bets.

The 2016 Bucs ranked 4th all time in points we’ve scored in a season despite having no run game and no legit threat at WR beyond Evans.
I’d bet $ we break that record in 2017. Hell Koetter already set the yards record in 2015.

I’ll wait until I see it on the field before any premature proclamations. Jameis has gotta be more accurate and protect the ball better for the offense to earn that title

Evans, Desean Jackson, Cam Brate, Humphries, (sign Kendall Wright)…OJ Howard in round 1…..Move up in round 2 for D’ Onta Foreman/Curtis Samuel/Kamara/Mixon….Jameis will have so many damn weapons he’ll get stopped and frisked every time he runs thru that tunnel on game day!

I said this last season when we had Jamies, Evans, Vjax, ASJ, Doug, and Sims but it never manifested. I was really hoping for Evans/Vjax to do more than they ultimately did. Week one teased me. Wish Vjax was still balling…
However I agree with this article. Jamies, Evans, Djax, Brate, Doug, Quiz, Sims and OJ/Davis sounds incredible to me. I really think Doug shocks us all and comes back with a vengeance. I’m willing to bet we give him a shot. We can rotate Doug/Quiz with Sims at the receiving back role. Evans and Djax lined up is lethal. Brate/OJ in two tight end sets or Brate with Davis/Ross in the slot. We’ve rarely had offensive powerhouses but it could be coming true.

Guys,
Teams that win Super Bowls just do not draft RBs in the first round. The only ones even drafted in the first round in the pat 10 or so years by the team that made it to the Super Bowl were Reggie Bush and Joseph Addai – and you’d be very hard pressed to convince me that either was the starter let alone the reason those teams won the Super Bowl.
I’m an FSU guy and LOVE Cook, but the Bucs would be smarter to wait until around the 3rd round and take a chance on other talented members of this ridiculously deep class and stock up on premium positions in the frt two rounds. History proves it’s the way to go.

Bucs like the RB from South Florida that they could get in 3-4 round.Now if Cook falls to 19,they will think about it but will not pick him over the two top TE,NT or WR prospects.

I hope the Bucs take good mid-late round looks at both USF players who’s game I think translates to the NFL. Mack would make a nice 3rd down back as a good pass catcher and shifty runner. Adams I think will make a very nice player as a 3rd WR.

Bonzai, Martin is missing 3 games to start the season. A drug addicted RB coming off a horrible season is not what the Bucs need. I think it is hard to say the Bucs have a great offense when your primary RB right now is Rodgers. He is solid, but he is more of #2 RB. Licht needs to decide if he wants McCaffery or Cook. If he thinks one is much better than the other than he should try everything in his power to get that guy in the draft. I know you guys love your 3rd and 4th round picks but I would be willing to give them up for a chance to have a truly lethal offense. I think the Bucs are a RT and a RB from having a beastly offense.

Don’t know if I’m the only Bucs fan who thinks this way, but … much as I love the thought of having a more potent offense, if the Bucs win the NFC South this year, it’ll be because of our DEFENSE. Just like our 9-7 record last season was primarily because of our DEFENSE.

Because McCaffrey is the better athlete and far more versatile.
Dirk Koetter, in my opinion, is a Coach that excels at molding his scheme to accent and utilize his player’s strengths, and that hides their weaknesses and mistakes.
Christian McCaffrey is a Swiss army knife. The kid can play 4 positions better than most players can play 1. His extremely impressive agility, quickness, vision, under-rated speed (faster than Cook, Fournette, and Mixon), and hands will allow him to line up any where and create favorable match-ups.
McCaffrey is the real deal dude. Fans would fall in love with him as soon as they saw him making plays in training camp. In my opinion, he’s my favorite 1st round Rb candidate.

The problem with that 2002 offense was that it had Brad Johnson at QB. BJ isn’t exactly explosive as a QB. So while the recieving corp was probably the best the bucs ever had, exciting and Brad Johnson just don’t go together.

With the djax signing I find myself thinking more and more about john ross. At any guven time one of those two has to be healthy and when they are bith on the field with evans and brate holy hell. I yhink Martin will stay and finish with three strong seasons back to back

Last year going into the season you had Winston coming off a rookie year in which the Bucs had the 5th best offense in football, you had the NFLs 2nd leading rusher in Martin, plus you had VJ and ASJ with Brate as a wildcard. There is no way that you can think D Jackson is more valuable than Martin, VJ and ASJ – thus there is no reason to believe this will be the best offense in team history – not unless Dirk dramatically improves with his play calling as he was really bad last year. Winston stepping up in his 3rd year will happen – he’ll firmly implant himself as the top young QB in the league – but not if the Bucs just sign one guy and think that solves all the issues. s Jackson is a huge injury list and you need more pieces for when he goes down. Last year I think Shepard was the 2nd best WR on the team and he just walked. The Bucs need another WR and they need to hang onto Martin as I think he comes back motivated. You can’t count on rookie WRs to play and contribute a ton, outside of 2014 it just doesn’t happen all that often – get another guy that is a 2 or a 3 that can play and contribute when D Jackson gets injured and draft a guy.

Rod, you are right Koetters play calling was off last season. The first time Ive seen him not in a groove. I have to believe it was from the adjustment of being a first year head coach and will put a much faster offense out there.
As for Djax signing he is the reason I would consider a first round reciever. Its good to have plenty of talent for Winsotn available and Djax going down would hurt. Ross is injury prone but is also a home run waiting to happen?
How about mccaffrey, I hear a lot of mixed reviews from fans on him….I like what I see

Kevin – I haven’t paid a lot of attention to the draft and prospects so I know a little about McCaffrey but not a ton, but his numbers are in line with Marlon Mack, who I think the Bucs could get in the 3rd or 4th round and to my eye Mack absolutely looks like an NFL runner. Not sure the Bucs should spend a 1st rounder on a RB unless the guy is really special – and in a deep running back class that would be another reason I’d probably wait. Cook has a chance to be special I think – but if that is the case he will be gone before the Bucs pick. With that said Emmitt Smith was a guy with so-so measurables and because of that he lasted until the 17th pick – and had not the Bucs traded a 2nd rounder for Gary Anderson right before the draft the Bucs would have taken Smith as everyone thought it was basically a done deal that the Bucs would. So anywho if Cook, who I think is special, is there, then I’d take him. But mccaffrey has great measurables but I don’t think he’s special, at least not in the bit I’ve seen about him. If Cook is gone the get a WR, a tackle, a corner, etc and then wait on a RB until later.

The Bucs have had too many bad eggs come in and spoil the team. Go after a cleaner back in the lower rounds in needed, and draft another speedy WR first.

Signing Jackson is a good step, but we need more. Drafting Howard in the first round would put us in that best Bucs offense ever. And we still need to draft another WR, Jackson is 30 and too injury prone.

Koetters play calling was off because he had weapons. He had no run game for 90% of the season. He had 1 WR even worthy of an NFL roster, and Brate. we were literally the least talented on offense i have ever seen. Mike evans, Brate and winston made the most out of bad situation. Koetter still got a winning record with that bunch. He will be able to open up the playbook again with a real #2 and hopefully a solid #3 and 4

Your a-typical Bucs fan. Too many bad eggs spoil the team – that won 12 games in a 3 year span. And the last time they actually won 10 games the team was full of bad eggs. I just don’t get it.

I have been a Bucs fan since 1988. Aside from the fact that Gruden was the best offensive mind for the Bucs (challenge extended Dirk), if the Bucs get Cooks or McCaffrey in this draft, this will be the best offense by far that I’ve ever seen for my team! Get a top RB in the draft Bucs!!
Can’t wait for April to find what game I’m flying down for this year!
