Dirk Koetter said a year ago at the NFL Owners Meetings that he wanted a fullback. The Bucs even invested a draft pick on one (Dan Vitale got cut).
So here we are a year later and the Bucs could get their hands on a guy Koetter mentored himself: Falcons Pro Bowl fullback Patrick DiMarco. Heck, Joe talked to DiMarco in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl 14 months ago in Hawaii. DiMarco heaped a ton of love and thanks and praise on Koetter.
What a great fit he could be with the Bucs as a free agent following this year’s Super Bowl.
But no, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network says DiMarco will be a member of the Buffalo Bills tomorrow for a shade over $2 million dollars per year.
Joe is now wondering if Koetter has a philosophical change in store for the Bucs offense, the kind that would cater to signing DeSean Jackson plus drafting a receiver or a beastly tight end early.

I said a few months ago that if we pursue a fullback in f.a. then more than likely we won’t look at a t.e. in the first few rounds. No fullback signing to me would indicate going to a 2 te set, maybe drafting Howard, njoku, engram in the 1-2 round. That would be a crazy setup, d jax, evans, Brate, njoku in the 2nd and cook/mcaffrey in the first? Then have Godwin (3rd rd) come in for njoku on passing downs.

I liked obi before his combine blow up. I think he can play outside corner if needed, but I would rather have him play deep safety and let him roam. Tandy playing underneath and grimes-hargreaves on the outside…we would be set for a while. My only thought with bouye is maybe thinking of moving grimes to safety???

Mixon’s official pro day numbers are out. Honestly not all that impressive. Almost identical to Dalvin Cook’s numbers besides the vertical.
Cook: 4.49 forty, 22 Bench Press, 30.5 inch vert, 116 inch Broad, 7.27 3 cone, 4.53 20 yd shuttle.
Mixon: 4.50 forty, 21 Bench Press, 35 inch vert, 7.10 3 cone, 4.33 20 yd shuttle. Also came in at 6-0 3/4 228 lbs. So he is bigger than Cook

But to me safety is one of those positions that is reliant upon instincts and smarts. Being a freakishly athletic safety is certainly a plus, but you gotta know how to play the position.

I’m with you that John Ross is very talented. I don’t think he will require double coverage tho. He struggles against press coverage right now so if he gets jammed off the line he can be disrupted rather easily especially since he isn’t very big. I dint say we would sign both. I did say they weren’t going to clam up and be cheap tho. DJax is a buc. We may have missed on CC. Maybe there was never any real interest. They may not spend half our cap space. But it won’t be from frugality.

Nothing is set in stone yet. We can still make a deal for him. Remember Gore backed out of the Eagles deal that was agreed upon and signed with Colts. Until he signs, he is still fair game along with any other FA (excluding Marshall deal).
