A.J. Bouye And The Bucs
March 8th, 2017This surprised Joe yesterday.
When chatter emerged that the Bucs were linked to Houston cornerback A.J. “Baba” Bouye, as reported by Jenna Laine of ESPN, Joe raised an eyebrow sort of the way Derrick Brooks does.
Joe had not heard anything seeping from One Buc Palace that the team was in the market for a cornerback. In fact, Joe had heard good things about Ryan Smith after the Bucs threw in the towel on the experiment to mold the 2016 rookie into a safety and placed him back at corner.
Bouye, 25, largely has been a backup in Houston, making 19 starts in his four season.
This almost smells like a sign Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is trying to cover for the inevitable.
Let’s face it, if Josh Robinson leaves, the Bucs are all of a sudden rather thin at cornerback and one of the starters — though a fantastic player in Brent Grimes — will be 34 this summer. Joe doesn’t care how good and healthy of a cook Miko is, Father Time is undefeated.
Yes, you may have forgotten Alterraun Verner is gone. Sure, Hey Jude is set to return, but if he gets popped in another whiz quiz, he’s out a half-season. The team likes Javien Elliot, but he was still an undrafted rookie last season.
If Licht is actually talking to Bouye’s camp, it tells Joe Licht is starting to sweat about depth at corner.

Would suck if we lost Josh Robinson and Shep. Would be a disaster for Specual teams

If we are looking at CBs I kind of wish we were targeting Gilmore instead. He has just been a little more consistant in his career.
March 8th, 2017 at 5:36 am
Also Note: Besides CB Brent Grimes turning 34 in July.
He’s also finally year of his contract.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to start Hargreaves and play Brent at the Nickel?

Don’t know much about Bouye….does he fit our scheme? Is he worth that kind of money?
March 8th, 2017 at 6:11 am
I do not see him coming to the Bucs, Philly will pay him the most at this point. Looking at the market, there are some solid players at p[positions of need. Like last year, you don’t have to go for the home-run every time. For example, sign Barry Church and draft a young Safety, like they did with Grimes and VH# at the CB spot last year. I agree with Joe, if they are trying to get the big name CB, they must think they are thin there. But damn, Koetter even said himself, SAFETY is where he is worried most. Hope they attack that spot as well.

I don’t care for our corners anyway I would love this or another corner I feel it a big need nobody else seems to think so? Imo

I’d say we need competition at corner. I wasn’t blown away by Javeon Elliot. I still 100 percent believe that VH3 has a bright future. But like I’ve been saying all offseason, we have holes everywhere.

Don’t believe anything when it comes to reports from these hacks called reporters, they are fueled by the agents trying to raise the prices for their clients, it’s all a game, the GMs don’t listen to this crap, every NFL city, especially with money to spend, are linked or rumored to be pursuing each big named free agent, and the Kenny Stills of the world are reportedly asking for $12 million a year, yeah your agent put that story out, then reality comes

Ronde retire at 37. I do think Grimes will have a couple of more years under his belt. But not with the Bucs after 2017.
There are some big contracts coming our way in the next couple of years with our younger players. Grimes and Ayers might be gone after their contract expires.
You got to love how Licht is lining things up specially after Lovie left.
In Licht I trust!!!!
Go Bucs!!!

Yeah, I agree with some above. It’s time to go to a movie, detail your car, paint the house, go to the beach ect…. Do anything but sit in front of your computer and absorb all the B.S. thats going to fly over the next week or so. When the Buc’s hold a news conference introducing a new player update your war-room. Don’t believe anything you hear and only 10% of what you see.

He’s good for depth and possibly can be molded into a solid nickel……………..all good things I see
March 8th, 2017 at 7:16 am
This guy is was the guy Prime (Deion) brought up of the type of quality player teams should be looking for in FA. Bucs should go get him. If it doesn’t happen draft one. This draft class is talented & deep @Cb, the real value is in the mid rounds.

@LovemyBucs
Are those figures per yr or totals?!? 13.5 for a marginal player at best is ludacris!
March 8th, 2017 at 10:15 am
We need more DB’s, being that it’s a passing league. I guess we forgot how the raiders and Falcons torched us through the air. To make matters worse we have a tougher schedule this year.
March 8th, 2017 at 10:57 am
@tdtb2015
I hear you about Ayers not being here after his deal is up after next year. I would love to draft Barnett or C. Harris in the first round. Rotated both in and out. Ayers moving to the inside sometimes. Noah/J.Smith/Gholston, good DT?/Gholston, GMC/Ayers, Barnett or Harris/Ayers. This D line could stay very fresh.

Get Logan Ryan for cheaper. Sign Cyprien and our secondary is good
