Bucs Not (Yet?) Bidding For Pryor

Bucs not interested?
So when legal free agency tampering (cough, cough) beings at noon today, several teams will line up to try to acquire the services of Browns wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.
However, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, it doesn’t appear the Bucs are one of Pryor’s suitors.
Yet.
Per Cabot, the Steelers, Giants, 49ers, Titans and Eagles are known to be after Pryor. She added this following little nugget as well:
There are likely other teams that will express interest too.
Joe only hopes one of those other teams is the Bucs.

I wouldn’t mind Pryor but with so many teams bidding for him he’ll get overpaid, and he’s still unproven as a WR. Judging from last year he has a lot of potential but he was really the only target on that team, and they were basically always down so the had to throw a lot. His stats and production could be padded thanks to his team’s defiencies. Coming into Tampa would mean he’ll be the 2 because clearly Evans is our 1. How productive will Pryor be as a 2 opposed to a 1? Idk. I wouldn’t go throwing a huge contract at him. Rather let another team take that risk.

HI Joe(s), if the Bucs awe willing to pay DJAX $12 mil, wouldn’t it be better to pay Pryor $12-15? I know he is not a burner, but younger and imagine he and Evans? Or like I said before, maybe he doesn’t want to come to Tampa, or will a team pay him more then the $15?

Pryor will get more than Djax for sure. Said that the other day. If bidding war then someone will give around /close to 15 which is nuts….
Let the legal tampering begin (starts at noon).
Pretty excited but very nervous. Teams just throw away money with cap going up again. So players will get more than worth. However, Bucs need to open the Glazer bank. Spend some money. My season tickets went up again – 115 is a lot per ticket so spend some dang money

@chyno I agree 100% with you. His route running is not at a professional level. Let somebody else take that risk. 12-15 million? Ha!! He is unproven potential. Julio Jones makes 14 mill a season. Think about that.

Ok, the Bucs need upgrade at WR, who do you want fellow fans? I see people saying no to DJAX, no to Pryor, who do you want? I know, Stills, he is THE name is see everywhere. SO lets say Stills stays in MIA, then who? I am trying to figure out who the fans DO want, and at what price?

Don’t really care who we get to be WR2, old, cheap, young, expensive, just get someone other than undrafted, medical courier, over the hill, lounge singer, IR maybe return (Murphy), waiver wire fodder, relying on any rookie to be the WR2 will not get this team in the playoffs, and do something about the Center and RT positions, Winston is going to get hurt with Hawley getting destroyed every play, and an injury prone Dotson, Dotson gets hurt every year, he took a month to get over his concussion, Dotsons injury is the reason the Bucs lost the Dallas game

LOL, Pryer could also back up Jameis at QB, but seriously, he is just not the receiver that D Jax is, so why even bother.
DJax should be the target IMHO, and not Pryor.

I’m not him, but here’s the issue I personally have with that.
Now, I know that there are some who say the money does not matter. It’s not ours so why complain? But the simple truth is this…eventually, the bubble of overpaying for talent bursts for every team, and with the cap going up to so much every year, it’s going to burst league-wide at some point.
Say we pay an unproven WR $15m per year. Well, Evans is up for a contract soon. What will we pay him if he has another good year? $25m per year? Because I can assure you…if we pay a WR with far less talent the $15m, then Evans is going to want $5m-$10m more.
By overpaying for lessor talent, we’re driving up the costs to keep our better guys. Evans would be making the amount a really good QB made just 5 years ago. Now I know there is such a thing as inflation, but to grow that much in 5 years?
And what about the following year? When Winston gets his new contract? Are we going to pay him $35m per year?
Just imagine how salaries will hit the cap then.
Have you ever noticed the reason minimum wage increases do not help? It’s because as soon as the retailers get wind of the increase, they increase their prices. So people end up being able to buy no more than before the increase.
That’s what we are seeing here. The cap keeps going up, and fans are seeing dollar signs and getting excited…but in this case player salaries are increasing by such an alarming rate that teams are actually getting much less for their money.
And that will result in one dimensional football, because teams will ONLY be able to afford to address one side of the ball eventually.
What’s going to happen when the Salary cap goes through it’s first decrease? It actually is possible, you know. If Networks decide the money the NFL wants for advertising is too much, and start refusing to pay it, suddenly you have a decrease, maybe a big one…and the team are still under contract to pay the same high amounts to their players.
What happens then?
So yeah, the money matters, because it threatens the game at some point. We’re talking about paying an unproven WR (Pryor), Evans and Winston a total of $75m per year. How much does that leave out of the Salary cap for the rest of the starters? All 19 of them?
Think on it.

Draft one in the second round. This draft is deep with receivers. Getting one in round two will allow us to get one that is great, and being a second rounder, the cost will be far less. No need to over spend.

Everyone seems to think we need a ‘bridge’ veteran WR. I have news for you all. Mike Evans is now the leader of the WRs. He’s our Veteran. He’s now proven. He knows how to overcome issues (he overcame the drops). And he is about to become our highest paid WR.
Better to draft a WR, and let Adam Humphries, who has gotten better every year, be a bridge to the #2.
Development is a good thing.

No way. Yeah lets drop 12-15MM on a guy who barely broke 1000 yeards and 4 TDs last year. Since when do 1 year wonders command that kind of $$. As a converted QB, he doesnt run good routes either which a young JW requires. This “interest” is all agent generated.

No need to be a douche bro. Pryor is one of the most coveted FA’s in the league and we Bucs fans appreciate any updates.
And a lack of interest on behalf of the Bucs is an (unfortunate) piece of info at this point.
I think we should offer Pryor at least a solid 3 yr/$30 mil and then sign Evans immediately after that for 5 yr/$65 mil and we will be absolutely dominate on offense when we add other pieces on top of that duo as well.
On a side note, I really want Torrey Smith now that he’s been released. He’s highly motivated to return to form and I have a funny feeling that he will end up being a stud again once he’s in a better offensive situation. Research him if u think I’m silly to want him.

Actually Pryor IS a burner…not DJAX speed but a 4.4 40 is faster than anything we have on the team and certainly able to stretch defenses.
His route running is being judged after ONE YEAR of making the transition. Look what Moncken did to ME13’s game. He could do the same thing for Pryor.
Pryor has been reported as making an incredibly quick transition from QB to WR because Pryor is a MOTIVATED dude. He loves to prove people wrong.
One of the NFL WR’s he worked with to improve his game was ME13…if there are question marks about Pryor the Bucs will know them first hand.
If they sign him I’ll be thrilled because he IS a “football player” first and foremost and incredibly versatile. You do not have to be an NFL QB to be able to throw the ball occasionally in the league…Pryor has size..he’s run the ball…Koetter would get the most out of him.
If we don’t get him I won’t be crushed but he’d be a great addition to our team.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you here, dude.
Four years ago the idea of a 16- mil./year corner was outrageous. Unthinkable. Then it became reality. And now it is normal. The franchise tag is at or above where we pegged Revis.
Not to say we like it, but the market is what it is. For years we have read how the top sports performers will hog most of the money. And that attitude has hit football.
You surely are right long term. But as they say, you have to live through the short term first. Salaries in sports may be unsustainable — kind of like LA real estate. But the price can still go up more.
Until it stops.
And since no one knows when that will happen we just have to live with the foolishness of today, and try to profit from — or win with it.

Pryor has been in the league for 5 years and playing WR for two years…his first year at WR he didnt see the field b-c he couldnt run a route properly and didnt know the playbook well enough. This is fact and written about in CLE. Ouch
I dont think Monk is the reason Evans has done well….Evans gets credit for that. He is self motivated see off season workouts.
DJAX, proven commodity, should be the target for FA and again all Pryor interest is agent driven. Dont get sucked into the hype.

Not me thunder I’ll be resting easy once the caption reads “Deshean had signed with the Bucs” one of the biggest reason went is Fameis had expressed a desire to play with him. Bonzai you see Hump as potential number 2 one-day??? I don’t not hardly. Number 3 at best. My hope is Djax signs and they draft Samuels whom they spoke to at the combine or Stewart who was one of the best in college when it came to YAC. A WR corp of ME,Djax,Sameuls or Stewart along with Hump would make for an exceptional grouping.

Correct Bonzai…They increase their prices to make up for the wage hike. Most business owners aren’t stupid. They’ll pay you more per hour, but everyone else is going to pay for the raise, not them.

So are you suggesting we simply go the other way with wages? Heck if we cut them to a dollar an hour think about how cheap the prices would be.
In fact that’s what we do regularly importing all the cheap crap from China so we can have WalMart prices.
Wage went up dramatically in the 50’s because of unions…then we started the race to the bottom with the rest of the world.
You are right about one thing for sure. Business owners…especially those at the very top are not stupid…they pay off their legislators for the best crony capitalism has to offer.
I agree with Lou. Bonsai might be correct in the long term but we’re talking about the next five years and there is nothing to indicate the cap will decrease in that span. I’m fine with the $$$ for the players…why should some billionaire like Robert Kraft need anymore or Jerry Jones? I do not like how the CBA distributes it however…it’s absurd for a team’s star like ME13 making a fraction of whatever FA we might bring in….yeah he MIGHT get his payoff after next year…IF he doesn’t get hurt. Meanwhile he’s PRODUCING at a rate far greater than many who are paid more.
I simply would love to see more “socialism”…oh the horrors in the league….that is to say more of the money should be paid based on a team’s performance. Make it to the SB and reap a windfall…now they get peanuts relative to their salaries…make it to the Conference Championship and cash in…win a division title and earn a heap…I’d love to see 50% of their salaries determined by who WINS!!! Actually closer to free enterprise…like golf..or racing..than the current setup,

A second dominant receiver would make the Bucs O far more explosive. It’d keep safeties out of the box, open the run game that would put safeties BACK in the box, and play into the play-action Koetter wants to run.
I’d be shocked and disappointed of the Bucs don’t make a big splash at WR in FA. There are some solid names available.
I like Jackson & Pryor personally.

The issue I have with these high prices are the fact that the more we pay for players, the fewer players of quality we can fit into the cap. I mean, $75 million per year tied up in Winston, Evans and Pryor in my above example. That’s not so far from half the cap money tied up in 3 players.
