Mike Glennon’s Worth
February 19th, 2017If Mike Glennon finds a team to make him a starter, much will he be paid?
That seems to be a popular subject on the interwebs of late. Long-time Bucs beat guy Woody Cummings of Florida Football Insider dove into this subject suggesting Glennon could be the next Brock Osweiler.
Guess that’s good for the wallet but not so good for Glennon. Who exactly wants the next Osweiler? How the Texans threw away millions on Osweiler may have NFL teams spooked.
Former NFL agent and salary capologist Joel Corry Twittered if Glennon lands a starting job, then he could pull in eight figures a year.
@Y2banana: market for mike glennon considering hasn’t played 2YRS?
@corryjoel: It depends on whether a team is signing Mike Glennon to be a starter or compete to start. At least $12M per year if signed as clear starter.
This may not be as outrageous as it seems on face value. Consider some of the starting quarterbacks who pocketed over $10 million last year: Sideshow Bob, Ryan Fitzpatrick, bratty Jay Cutler and Osweiler.
The lowest-paid quarterback who was a (part-time) starter last year was Case Keenum at $3.6 million, per OverTheCap.com. Fitzpatrick was the lowest-paid, full-time starting quarterback not under a rookie contract at $12,000,000.
The report stating not one team called Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht inquiring about Glennon’s services last year should give pause to folks who think Glennon is thought of by other NFL general managers as a full-time starter.
Then again, all it takes is one GM.

Hope he gets a 100 million contract so that we get a 3rd round comp pick
February 19th, 2017 at 10:56 am
If Gleenon is not going to be a back-up with the Bucs, I can careless how much money he gets on the open market.
February 19th, 2017 at 10:59 am
No way he gets more than $7 million.
February 19th, 2017 at 11:04 am
Perhaps I’m the only one but frankly, I am quite bored with all the Mike Glennon attention.
He will likely go where he as at least a chance to eventually start and for the highest salary he can get….pretty simple….and that wouldn’t be the Bucs.
He is essentially gone and has been for about 3 years.
February 19th, 2017 at 11:21 am
I believe his contract and status will help determine what, if any, compensatory pick the Buccaneers get from the NFL. So for everyone saying it doesn’t matter and who cares, it directly affects our draft next year!

Thank you TampaBay BucFan, I agree 100%

TBBF:
Enjoyed reading your post again, you are someone that is usually on the same page with me. I agree Glennon is history and has been for some time. As much as I disagree with those who believe that if Jameis goes down the Buc’s season ends. It is a logical argument, however I have no idea if Griffin is ready.
February 19th, 2017 at 12:41 pm
With a GOOD young backup QB, the Bucs can still win if Jameis goes down. They thought the Cowboys was done, when Romo went down. Then they went on to win 13 games, with that 4th round pick. Glennon is not that guy.

A washing machine

Glennon is thought of very highly by this organization for good reason the guy can come in and win a game in a pinch and is a great teammate so the bucs need to do whatever they can (smartly)to keep him but if he does move on he should get the best offer in the best situation for him and his future
February 19th, 2017 at 1:32 pm
Glennon could be the best backup QB the Bucs have ever had. Somebody get him, I’m curious as to how well he will perform. Nobody knows imo.
February 19th, 2017 at 1:41 pm
I sure wouldn’t say No Way he gets 7 mil !!! As a matter of fact if he doesn’t I believe the Bucs would give him close to that for next season or a two year extension !!
February 19th, 2017 at 1:58 pm
If we don’t acquire some weapons on. Offense, it won’t matter who backs up James.
February 19th, 2017 at 2:47 pm
Compensatory pick is a pipe dream. Big factor is playing time and glennon has basically one series in 2.5 years. He will get a shot and fail guaranteed. Glennon, Murphy and Bell – – Insurance You can trust! coming to a strip mall near you.

Jason Says
“I believe his contract and status will help determine what, if any, compensatory pick the Buccaneers get from the NFL. So for everyone saying it doesn’t matter and who cares, it directly affects our draft next year!”
Actually, no it doesn’t. We will not get any compensatory picks for any of our players next year.
February 19th, 2017 at 3:31 pm
Joe- Do they create a grin in your face with their drama?
You know how to get them going! lol
We should trade Winston and resign Glennon. This will allow Licht to get more picks to acquire #weapons4Glennon.
February 19th, 2017 at 3:51 pm
Lets drop the compensatory pick talk. The only way that we get any is if we lose more in free agency than we gain. So Glennon would have to leave and get a great contract and, no Cambell, no Pryor, no Jackson or Britt or any player of any real significance. I don’t want that off season. If we cut a player (Martin for example) That doesn’t count. I hope there is no chance for a single compensatory pick. The only possible Mike Glennon effect to the Bucs is if he resigns as a back up. Otherwise, no effect at all.

I could see him in San Francisco now
February 19th, 2017 at 5:24 pm
Getaclue
San Francisco does not make sense. They insurance exam is very difficult there. glennon could pass it but no way Murphy or Bell could having obtained education from Nebraska and Florida respectfully
February 19th, 2017 at 6:29 pm
Glennon was toast in the middle of the 2-14 season when McCown was put back in after his injury….Glennon would likely have won a couple of games….perhaps keeping us from Winston.
Who woulda thunk it? Was Lovie smart….or was he simply a fool?……
February 19th, 2017 at 6:54 pm
Glennon the stiff will not get one single offer from another NFL team. He’s delusional at best. Another terrible waste of a draft pick.
February 19th, 2017 at 9:09 pm
Tmaxcon. now that was hilarious.
February 20th, 2017 at 9:05 am
I assume Jason is new to JBF. Any salary Glennon would receive is only a part of the compensatory equation. In addition to him earning a hefty salary the team would have to lose more players in free agency then they picked up. That better not happen and I am sure it won’t as the Bucs have a ton of cash they’re sitting on and holes that need to be filled.
As far as Glennon’s future, I could care less if he ends up with a team looking for a stop gap QB or a really dumb franchise thinking he could be a long term starter. He is an average back up QB that is replaceable and once he leaves Tampa I have no more interest in him.
February 20th, 2017 at 11:04 am
Let’s just keep kicking Glennon. WeaponsforWinston ahhhhhhahahahahaha. Try and remember the team Glennon had. He didn’t have a RB an O-line or WRz. Trying to win in the NFL with an XFL team. And that is why some smart GM will say how did this guy manage to throw 18 TD and only 9 INT with that joke of a team. Weaponsforwinston ppphhhh please
February 20th, 2017 at 11:05 am
#excusesforwinston
February 20th, 2017 at 12:18 pm
So are you saying that should dump Winston or keep him and have him back up Glennon? Do you think JW would have any trade value? I would like to try and get something for him.
