Panic In The Capitol

February 8th, 2017

Which one?

Yes, sometimes, the two Joes at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters toss empty beer cans at each other in disagreement.

This is sort of one of those times.

Both Joes think it is outrageous if not irresponsible for the Bucs not to beef up their wide receiver corps when so much is invested in America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. Both Joes saw the front of this coming storm approaching a year ago.

Both wondered then why precautions were not taken. And after relying on a front man of a lounge act in Vero Beach, and a medical courier, to help lead a passing attack into the playoffs, missing by one win, well, the chickens came home to roost.

For this reason, the Joes have been monitoring the Washington Redskins. Why? They have two proven stud receivers scheduled to become free agents. And here is where the Joes are split: One is enamored with productive, dependable Pierre Garçon. The other Joe is smitten with DeSean Jackson’s ability to stretch the field.

And it seems folks in the Capitol are in a borderline panic. No, not because Breitbart strongman Steve Bannon is running the White House, but because it seems the Redskins may be willing to let both Garçon and Jackson walk away, per Brian McNally, Redskins beat guy for 106.7 The Fan.

One issue: There appears to be internal disagreement among the top decision makers in Washington’s front office about which wide receiver to prioritize, three sources said. Jackson still has his fans in the building even if his penchant for missing offseason workouts is maddening to some. His unique skillset can’t be replaced easily, if at all. To others, Garcon is simply a possession receiver with a naturally limited ceiling now — or to some his physicality and reliability are traits the organization needs to keep on the field at all costs.

Here is the pickle the Redskins are in: They have three guys on offense scheduled to hit free agency that will cost an arm and a leg to keep: Lovie Smith-defense-killing Kirk Cousins, Garçon and Jackson. The Redskins could sign one, a second they could franchise. It’s unlikely the Redskins could afford all three.

And if you ask the Joes if Garcon or Jackson would be an upgrade for Jameis, the Joes would answer loudly in unison, “YES!”

If either Garcon or D-Jax (or both) become available one of them should be a high priority target. Honestly I would like to see them add both of these types of skill sets to our receiving core.

If they go after and get Garcon, I would like to see them add a speed receiver to stretch the field in that draft. John Ross, Curtis Samuel, Dede Westbrook, Taywan Taylor, etc.

If they go after and get D-Jax, I would like to see them add a reliable receiver with good route running ability in the draft. Cooper Kupp, Zay Jones, Juju Smith-Schuster, Malachi Dupre, etc.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs win if they sign either Jackson or Garcon. Personally prefer D-Jax because of his ability to stretch the field, but either would be a giant step up in our WR corps.

  3. Guzzie Says:

Let’s just keep VJax at $10 million a year, and not release DMartin, and get a kicker in the 2nd, heck we are only a kicker away from the playoffs, the great Louis Murphy has been a solid WR 3, and then just fill out the WE depth chart with UDFA, Licht you are soooo smart, what could go wrong…..SARCASM

  4. Guzzie Says:

    WR not WE

  5. Guzzie Says:

Funny thing is we really were a kicker away from the playoffs last year lol

  6. Guzzie Says:

An average kicker would’ve got us in the playoffs

  7. Kevin Says:

I would easily go.with Garcon over vjax. Only because garcon is less injury prone, unless they are also going to draft a speedy guy as well and have them both available

  8. 941BUC Says:

Resign VJax and get Jackson and pick up 2 WRs in the draft to develop this year and for depth and boom! set sail for Minneapolis!

  10. Jeagan1999 Says:

OJ Howard in the 1st. Best available RB in the 2nd. Re-sign Jacquizz. Bring in a FA WR like Jackson. Keep V-Jax for depth. Boom….playoff calibre offense!

  11. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

So is everybody missing the line…
Jackson still has his fans in the building even if his penchant for missing offseason workouts is maddening to some.
PASS we don’t need that here.

  12. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

All I know is we need some speed that can catch. Be it Jackson or a player in the draft. My vote, as you all know, would be to sign Jackson, or Pryor, draft DE with #19 then get another WR in the 2nd or 3rd round.

  13. DallasBuc Says:

If Bruce “franchise killer” Allen drafts Deseaun Jackson 10 years ago Gruden is probably still our coach and we aren’t bottom feeders for this whole time. I’ll take Jackson 10 years later over no Jackson at all.

And that’s a good thing Joes!! Be a boring world if we all agreed about everything.

I tend to lean towards Djax because as the saying goes…you can’t coach speed…a guy either has it or does not. But Garcon or Stills would also fill the bill.
We just have to get a legitimate #2 “NFL” WR.

Then get me Dalvin and Samuels and we’re on our way. Again just use your imagination. ME13..a TRUE #2 NFL WR on the other side. Then you have game breaking speed in the backfield with Dalvin and a player just as fast all over the formation in Samuels. We are talking lightning all over the field!!! Imagine NFL DC’s…pick your poison…oh and btw this lineup instantly makes both ME13 and Brate better. Imagine the open space in the field for a smart dude like Brate.

Man I can hardly sit still just thinking about it. Gotta block right..so we have tackles Smith and Benenoch (if he’s not ready we gotta sign an FA or draft well)
Marpet is an immediate upgrade at center and Pamphile and Sweezy (if he’s not healthy again FA or draft).

DL…need to sign either Poe or Campbell and we’re in pretty good shape…a little thin for depth.

If we could package our first three picks and come away with Dalvin and Samuels and sign those two FA’s…WR/DL…watch the eff out for the Bucs baby!

  15. Mitch Says:

In context to playing style and longevity if Jackson were to come to Tampa he could be the second coming of Joey Galloway.

  16. Broy34 Says:

Dallasbuc- they were going to. Learn before speaking. Desean was drafted one pick ahead of us. My brother worked for the team and assured me he was the pick and this was right after the draft

  17. StPeteBucsfan Says:

    Mitch

That is a great comparison. Joey Galloway indeed and Jackson is actually a few years younger than Joey was when he came to the Bucs..and he gave us three really good years.

Not unreasonable to expect D Jackson to give us five if he wants to play that long. He’s playing a position that doesn’t exactly take a beating..especially if your game is speed and not possession with a big body.

  18. DallasBuc Says:

Broy- we had a shot to draft him but Bruce dipsht Allen traded back in the second round and the Eagles grabbed him ahead of us and we ended up with the poor man’s Deseaun Jackson known as Dexter Jackson.

[Calm down! No need to go off on a commenter like that. — Joe]

  19. DallasBuc Says:

He did the same to me first. Did censor him?

  20. DallasBuc Says:

So Broy maybe you should go ahead and learn something before speaking [censored]

  21. Destinjohnny Says:

Need to get wideout somewhere in free agency then go defensive line all day

  22. Destinjohnny Says:

    In the draft

  23. StPeteBucsfan Says:

    Joe

I don’t think anybody here worries if Dallas goes off on them. LMAO

He has some major “issues”. Many of us consider it a badge of honor.

  24. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Curtis Samuels in the 2nd.

  25. Joeypoppems Says:

Kind of off topic, but I have seen a couple of mock drafts recently that have the Bucs taking David Njoku, the TE out of Miami at #19. Its definitely an interesting idea.

Of the 2 I found that have the Bucs taking Njoku, the “ideal” picks on offense were all gone in 1 of them. Corey Davis, Mike Williams, Fournette, Cook, OJ Howard. The other one has us taking Njoku over OJ Howard which was a bit of a surprise to me.

I don’t hate the idea of Njoku.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

    It takes all kinds Joe.

Dallas is one of those kinds.

  27. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Pete you recall coach K expressing his admiration for OU players last year??? I feel like he’s gonna go get ya guy Sir.

  28. DallasBuc Says:

StPete once again can’t keep Dallas out his his mouth!
Care to detail the issues in quotes that you seem so certain that I possess or you gonna hit and run waiting for someone else to save your lackey aas?
You should consider keeping less dudes out your mouth?

  29. DallasBuc Says:

    87- what kind is that?

  30. Joe Says:

Let’s just keep VJax at $10 million a year, and not release DMartin,

If Jason Licht re-signs VJax at $10 million, he needs to be immediately drug-tested.

  31. webster Says:

Kenny stills!!!!! He is much younger and higher ceiling and may even cime cheaper. No brainer.

  32. Artemis Rand Says:

Why can’t we just split the difference and sign them both ?

    -OR-

Have Professor Farnsworth invent a “football player combiner ray” and have both Jackson and Garcon fused into one super WR ?

  33. theodore Says:

@Joe – Signing VJax for $10 mill was a crack at last off season.

Anyways, go with the possession receiver. Jameis doesn’t have the spiral to throw long anyways…

  34. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Dallas

No hit and run but really dude….You should consider keeping less dudes out your mouth?

How can anybody compete with such an intellect? BWAAAHHHAAAAHAAAA!

Hey we could crown you “America’s Hater” but I’m not sure that moniker hasn’t been taken. It’s just difficult to battle such wit and those pithy comebacks.

  35. DallasBuc Says:

Okay lackey, so hater and troll are the examples of pithy retort you are championing? How can I possibly keep up?
Just keep kissing the aases of the proprietors, riding the coattails of the heavier hitters on this site and droning on with your fantasy fanboy musings and I’ll keep keeping it real when it comes to actual happenings related to this football team.

    Oh snap

  37. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

I know it might be a pipe dream but DAM if we could bring both Garcon and Jackson in, Licht could basically devote the ENTIRE draft to defense, with the exception of OJ Howard, if he’s sitting there at 19, I’d grab him in a heartbeat, then go all defense. Here’s to BIG DREAMS in 2017!!! GO BUCS!!!
