Matt Ryan’s Next Offensive Coordinator
February 2nd, 2017One of the most interesting untold stories in the NFL this season is career defensive coach Raheem Morris, the Falcons’ assistant head coach, taking over leadership of the Atlanta wide receivers corps.
It’s an NFL rarity for a guy to jump to the other side of the ball — and then succeed and coach in a Super Bowl.
Of course, Raheem was the Bucs head coach in 2010, the best Tampa Bay regular season record since 2005.
Will Raheem, 40, be a head coach again? Maybe. Probably.
But top Falcons beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution seems to think Raheem will have a new role first: offensive coordinator/playcaller when Kyle Shanahan leaves the Falcons to coach the 49ers after the Super Bowl.
Man, how stunning would that be? Raheem as OC squaring off twice next year against Mike Smith and the Bucs defense.
Wild times in the NFC South.

Everything I’ve ever read about Rah becoming a WR coach was all about him providing insight from a DB’s perspective to help the WR’s improve. I never thought for a second that he would ever be responsible for an actual offensive scheme and playcalling duties. His current switch makes total sense, but the move to playcaller/coordinater would be stunning.

Rah has done an amazing job with the Falcons receivers.

I think I could coach the Falcon’s receivers and succeed and I have no idea what to do.

No, Julio Jones would tune you out kid dynomite! Obviously RahRahRaheem brought something to the table even for him

pretty cool, and pretty exclusive resume where he would have to be in high demand, great for him, think he will be a great HC next trip around

It was a very smart move for Rah’s career and future HCing prospects to switch over to the offensive side of the ball and get some in the trenches experience on that side of the ball. Just makes him a more well rounded couch.
Is he capable of calling plays successfully at the NFL level? Somehow I doubt it.
Would be shocked to see Raheem be named the OC and become the play caller but after the Lynch GM hiring – who knows…

This would be GREAT NEWS … for the Bucs and the rest of the NFC South

Never gonna happen.

Roflol wow if rah becomes the OC advantage Tampa he never been an OC play caller also even though he coached the wr of the Falcons don’t mean he should be the OC heck schiano could coach the wr of the Falcons & look good my god this is so funny but if it do happens I will be happy
February 2nd, 2017 at 5:01 pm
with any luck, he’ll be about as good as that guy who stepped in for Jeff Tedford in 2014, whose name i have completely scrubbed from my brain

Raheem’s problem as HC was that he seemed to take his job about as seriously as Josh Freeman took his…Barring some concrete evidence that he’s way more dedicated to the craft of coaching and game planning, he’s not any more qualified than he was when he got fired. His switch to WR coaching always felt more like a “if you can’t beat em, join em” move to me than some recognition of his football fluency

Good for him and good luck in the SB and in the future!! He’s a good coach and a good guy!!

The Bucs dumped too much on a young coach.
The why Raheem maneuvered the defense, to overcome its weaknesses- was brilliant coaching.
And dont forget- he had the totally incompetent M.Dominick as a “GM”
Dom refused to sign ANY free agents, insisting that “great teams build ONLY thru the draft!”
Lmao! What an ass clown!
Raheem didnt know how to handle Older players- trying to be a friend, not a coach
Im sure hes learned from that. With experience- and a real GM,
Raheem will be a good coach someday soon

When the coach is only a few years older than most of the players what could have been expected? Too buddy buddy with them but them dudes played hard for him. What I couldn’t stand about certain kinds of fans who equate his excited speech pattern for his intelligence like you people do for his kind. It’s funny how Josh Freeman had the best year of any Bucs qb under him but when the true buttclown Schiano came to town he immidiately regressed, and the morons up here want to lay all the blame on Freeman. Schiano had an agenda and that was the ever exciting Mike Glennon to be his qb. Freeman was exasperating at times but was an exciting qb to watch. I think he just had that Ricky Williams problem and couldn’t cope with Sciano.
Upthegut you must’ve been staring in the mirror when you typed that!

They must have taken that photo of Raheem right after he read “Matt Ryan’s Next Offensive Coordinator”……because that is how I reacted.

How come Julio had more yards and catches last year then? Last year he had 1871 yds and 136 catches out of 203 targeted (66%)…this year he had 1409 yds and was 83 of 129 (64%). Maybe Rah helped out the other receivers?….but I think their success was from Kyles play calling.
