NFL Network’s Deion Sanders talks with former Bucs RB LeGarrette Blount Monday at Super Bowl Opening Night.
It was one of the strangest periods in Bucs history and to this day it remains shrouded in mystery.
Led by Raheem Morris — who graciously gave Joe a bunch of time Monday night to talk about the Bucs, which Joe will share in the coming days — the 2010 Bucs won 10 games and missed out on the playoffs in a wild card tiebreaker to the eventual Super Bowl champion Packers.
The Bucs have yet to win 10 games in a season since.
Eight members of that team were Pro Bowl alternates or better before, during or after their Bucs playing days. That does not include 2005 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Cadillac Williams, or 2016 NFL leader in rushing touchdowns, LeGarratte Blount. Ronde Barber likely will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame some day.
Yet after leaving Tampa the following season at 4-2 heading to London, the team completely imploded. In short time, Rah was launched and the dominoes began to fall. The team was blown up.
What the hell happened?
Last night at “Super Bowl Opening Night” at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Joe got a quick question in with Blount, now with the Belicheats. Joe asked Blount what happened to that Bucs team? Blount is equally confused.
“I couldn’t tell you,” Blount told Joe. “I ain’t the coach, so I don’t know. I didn’t see nothing [in the locker room that caused chaos]. We will never know.”
Boy, ain’t that the truth.
We will likely never know why that team imploded as it did. Joe, and Bucs fans in general, have educated guesses, but until someone goes on the record, that is all we can do: guess.

The team didnt implode. It was never good to begin with. If you had eyes you should of been able to see that. The team played awful for 3 quarters every single game, only to pull off a tiny comeback the last quarter but only winning against the worst teams in the league. The 10-6 record was just a mirage of the team playing a lot of bad teams that year. It was the first winning season in a long time so fans desperately hoped it meant something, but if you really watched, that team was horrid.

my guess is that team and staff were just too young…they thought they could just turn it on when ever they wanted to….but everything happens for a reason….I feel like all sides are happy….blount going for his second ring, rah going for his first, we finally have the qb we’ve been searching for since doug Williams and we’re headed in the right direction…..BUCS WILL BE IN THE BIG GAME NEXT YEAR….GO BUCS!!!!

I believe London was where Talib broke curfew, then cussed Raheem out in the hotel lobby….and the team did nothing. That was the beginning of the end. Nobody took Raheem serious, he was in over his head, it was obvious the team quit on him.

Bobby M. is the closer to the truth, with the roster that the rockstar put together, it was a huge party from 2010 to 2011!!!! and the local media did not care until the losing started to happen!!!! Its no big secret!!!! and The Bucs are still paying for those mistakes that they let get out of control ( drug martin )!!!!
I know that blunt would not know!!! Was he to self medicated from the duffle bags that jeremey stevens and kellen winslow full of stuff that they would bring to team hotels (allegedly)!!!!!!!

Young team with not many veterans with an off-season interrupted by the holdout lead to a disappointing season the following year and Morris getting fired.
Schiano came in drafted Doug and started giving him the ball 25 times a game and wouldn’t allow Blount to run the ball much and show up his draft pick which eventually led to Blount being released.
Everything in a nutshell.

Key to the 2010? Having one of the easiest schedules. We played the NFC West which was terrible that year; along with a terrible Panthers team twice; and a few other joke teams. Even the 6 win / 7 win teams like the Rams & Seahawks were worse than the 6 win Panthers of last year (who were in the SB the year before) or the 7 win Saints of last year (who still had a top offense while the Rams/Seahawks weren’t top anything).

The downfall started during that 48-3 whipping by the 49ers. The team flat out quit that game and they never recovered. They did beat the Saints the following week, but it was their last win.

Looking back on that 2010 season I even though they went 10-6 I fill like this years 9-7 team is light years better than that team if u want an example of what that 10-6 team would look like look at Detroit this year that’s the same team that 10-6 team had an easy schedule the only team we beat was new orlands thats all 9 of those teams had pic in the top 10 with Carolina picking no 1 to me that 10-6 team needs to stop getting all this praise if any of u don’t agree with me look up the records of cle,cin,st.louis,az,SF49,wash & Seattle they all had losing records

I’d have to agree with most of the sentiment here. The schedule was easy and I’m sure a lot of teams took the Bucs pretty lightly coming off of their dumpster fire of a 2009 season. The team tasted a little adversity in 2011 and collapsed.

I agree that it wasn’t a tough schedule but I also remember Gruden having some fairly easy schedules in the years where he won the division after the 1 super bowl season. I haven’t looked back at the other 2 seasons where they won the division but in 2005 this was the teams they beat. They split with Carolina and won the division in a tie breaker.

I wasn’t just an easy schedule. IIRC pretty much every team with a decent QB had their QB out injured when they played us that year.

The record CLEARLY shows the 2010 Bucs did NOT miss the playoffs because of losing a tie-breaker with the Packers, the NFl TOOK IT FROM THEM in the form of a TD that their “officials” took away from K2 in the detroit game that season. Rewind the tape to before the 2010 season began, and you will find the packers front office on the record stating how 2009, was the biggest single season loss in team revenue since they were in existance…Follow the money Joe. The NFL is legally listed as “entertainment, which gives them a full legal ride to fix the outcome of their games. 2010 Bucs were ROBBED.

Lol I dunno man. The only team we beat that was any good was the Saints; and they lost their wildcard game to the 7-9 Seahawks.
The Packers and Rodgers were on a mission from God that year in the playoffs; and had way more notable wins in the regular season including 4 playoff teams:
10-6 Eagles
11-5 Jets
10-6 Giants
11-5 Bears

2010 was all smoke and mirrors. Raheem’s Bucs could only beat teams with a losing record and used up 10 years worth of “luck” in one season – in the form of every imaginable way to receive favorable bounces and calls in beating those bad teams.
And I’m quite sure the contents of Sgt Winslow’s notorious briefcase had no bearing on the following year’s implosion….

You forgot to say they actually should have won 11 games but the refs called one of the biggest BS penalties in Bucs history (not close to the biggest, see 99 NFC Championship game) when they bogusly claimed Winslow committed offensive PI in the endzone in what should have been a game winning TD. The NFL later sent the Bucs a letter saying sorry, not sorry, we blew the call but hey the Packers got into the playoffs and isn’t that what is really important…

Dalvin Cook is a special player and the best RB in the draft. But will he be available at 19, will Jason Licht trade up for him? This is what CBS Sports Dane Brugler had to say about him………………..And in what projects as a loaded 2017 running back class, Cook is the cream of the crop and the best prospect at his position. LSU’s Leonard Fournette is a physical freak and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey has outstanding run instincts, but Cook is the complete package with the athletic profile and mental makeup to be an impact performer in the NFL.
When evaluating the running back position, there are two main criteria that translates to the NFL: can you navigate, and can you create? And Cook is above average in both areas. He has excellent patience to allow his blockers to do their job and then times his burst to maximize each run. If defenses give him a crease, he has the vision to find openings and athletic gifts to explode through them, making it look easy due to his feet, balance and spatial awareness.

Guys……..Any of you that know me know that I was probably the only “Gator” on this site that was defending Winston and ok with drafting him even though I started out in the ‘trade down’ club. I LOVE Cook, if he were a Gator I would prolly be beating the drum harder but the reality is he Won’t be there when we draft. I think he is good enough that the Combine will put him in the top 10 easily. This team can’t afford to give up draft picks to move up the board right now. I would love to see Cook in Pewter and Red but it just can’t happen.

Jbf keeps saying he won’t be there, but each week gose by he falls lower and lower in the mocks. Do they mean anything no. I’m just paying attention is all. Last year this time the mocks were saying Vernon Hargreaves and didn’t really change at anytime over the summer. This year I see mocks saying various things when it comes to our selection at 19. To me that’s telling.

Nos my brother. Hope all is well with you. Don’t fool yourself by looking at mock drafts in January. As I stated before, after the Combine he will be a lock at top 10. This team can’t afford to trade into the say……..8 spot to lock up Cook. That takes too much. Maybe he gets into some trouble between now and then and drops then we can make a move. Outside of that I just don’t see it.

Sadly Walter Football has the Stinkin’ Panthers taking Dalvin at 8th. That’s a move of ten spots. I love Dalvin but he needs to drop some more…I do not see us trading into the top ten where it would get really expensive in terms of draft picks.
I hope you’re right and Dalvin falls to us…keeping my fingers crossed…Walter has us taking Taco Charlton at 19 a nice player for sure but man after all the DE’s we have drafted in the first round with NOTHING to show for them….and the DL needs some help but we are desperate at RB and WR. When Jaquizz Rodgers is your #1 back heading into the off season….scary. At least we have ME13 at WR…pick up Desean Jackson and then we can go for that RB early. I’m tired of the “dunkaneers” concept…ME13 and Brate are enough height…give me some freaking speed and separation.
In my wildest dreams we get both Dalvin and Samuels…Those are the two most explosive players in the draft although I still believe McCaffrey has ability.
I want an offense that can EXPLODE! I’m with Dirk we need some chunk plays…both Dalvin and Samuels can provide large chunks of yardage.

All I know is this GM is a Maverick. If he wants a guy he go gets a guy. Unapologetic to anyone about what it took do so. We can come here all we want and talk about the importance of draft picks I’m sure he feels the same. But for a once every five or so year guy. Trust me he liable to make a move. He wanted Roberto so he did what it took to secure Roberto. So some can continue on the importance of picks train all they want. This dude is known for bucking traditional wisdom.

Calais Campbell,Stills(reason being Pete I think he’ll accept the role of #2 somewhat better than DJ. Not that I would be opposed to DJ. Whatever it takes for DC after that you can do what you please with the rest of those picks. This D was the best in the league for a five or six week stretch. Main need for that side is to be healty. This team ain’t full of holes like people like to say round here.

I have seen so many idiotic posts regarding the 2010 Bucs’ record. That 2010 team took care of the teams they were supposed to, and should have also beaten the Lions that year had it not been for a B/S PI call on Winslow. That team played with heart and confidence. Your beloved 2016 9-7 Bucs would wished they had the heart of that 2010 team. This current team controlled their own destiny in December and pissed their pants in the worst way! Had that team made it to the playoffs, no doubt they would have taken it to the house. The downfall of the team was the owners failure to fortify the team (players and coaches) with some experience to balance out that youth.

My point is, after the 2010 season, they should have invested to keep the momentum moving forward with the team. Their free agency moves were to resign Quincy Black and Davin Joseph.. not horrible and to acquire Micheal Koenen. This is also why after Raheem’s firing the best they could find was Schiano.
They best thing to say is, I’m glad we don’t have to live through the past 8 years as Bucs fans again

If indeed JW#3 is the real deal. We wont be needing to move up. In fact we just need to draft best player for our needs in our spots. HOPEFULLY. Some team will want to trade a few picks to us and we can scoop some late round talent.
All this talk about moving up is just that… NO WAY WE MOVE UP THIS YEAR…
If anything we trade down to aquire more picks/prospects…. BET???

And if you wanna some good odds on a bounce back year from a guy that finished runner up to the best back in NFL history just two seasons ago. I would bet on DM because if nothing else. This is his pattern, All Pro to All Nothing etc…

The Rah/Dom frat party started way before that!!!!! The fight that broke out in london after Talib and some other miss curfew then Tabib did not like getting yelled out by the coaches and then a brawl started in the team hotel!!!! It was a big incident, but control and discipline was long gone before then!!!!!!!!!
