WR Play Gave Hope

Draft deepens

Yes, Joe understands watching guys shine in a college all-star game is dubious.

In recent years, it seems half the dudes named MVP of the Senior Bowl turned out to be professional frauds. E.J. Manuel, Christian Ponder, Brandon Graham, Pat White and Tony Hunt spring to mind.

Yesterday, wide receiver Zay Jones from East Carolina jumped off the screen in the Senior Bowl the way he was able to get separation in tight coverage and go up and get the ball, six catches in all.

Also, this Cooper Kupp from Eastern Washington made folks take notice as well.

One person the duo of wide receivers impressed was noted former scout and draft analyst for NFL Network, Daniel Jeremiah. He took to Twitter with a quick impression of the two.

@MoveTheSticks: Zay Jones & Cooper Kupp are both ready to make an impact day one…both guys are extremely polished route runners and catch everything.

This is calming Joe down a bit. The Bucs need a receiver in the worst way and what better way to get a top shelf receiver for the next seven years than in the draft.

If, as Jeremiah seems to suggest, there is deep receiver talent in the first couple of rounds, Joe can rest easy at night.

Now the question is, can those two guys make it to the second round so the Bucs can grab another position at No. 19 (running back, defensive end)?

If we can somehow get Kupp and a #2WR in FA, our receiving corps should be set for a long time.

  2. Joeypoppems Says:

There will be many more receivers along with Kupp and Zay Jones worthy of a Day 2 pick that can come in and make an impact early on. Josh Reynolds was impressive yesterday, Malachi Dupre, Taywan Taylor could fall to the 3rd round, Jujus Smith-Schuster, Dede Westbrook, Shelton Gibson, Curtis Samuel, etc.

Don’t think if we don’t get one of the top three WR that we are out of luck. The same could be said for the RB class. Defense round 1 makes the most sense to me.

  3. jimmy Says:

Agree Eric. Bucs need a WR both in draft and free agency.

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Your last question hit the nail right on the head Joe. It’s hard to really prioritize the Bucs’ needs at this point … we’ve got quite a few starting holes plus we lack depth at many positions. I think it’ll all come down to who’s available when we pick at #19, plus what we’ve done by that point in FA. If a top WR is available when we pick (like Williams or Ross), it’d be hard to pass him up. But the same goes with a top RB (like Cook), or a top TE (like Howard), or a top DE (like Garrett). Most likely all of them will be gone by #19, but there’s still plenty of talent that’ll fill Bucs’ needs on offense or defense. For my part, I trust Jason Licht and our coaching staff to draft based on a much bigger picture than any of us have at this point.

  5. MadMax Says:

Zay Jones looked really good! If we could steal him with a 3rd that would be great. Hit DE or TE 1st, the other 2nd. And im starting to think Mixon if he’s still there in the 4th, but I doubt it. I still hate what he did and very near not even wanting him.

  6. Sunny Says:

What do you guys think of courtland Sutton ?

  7. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I like the way you think caneEric and feel that’s exactly what will happen. Pop I see that list and there is no denying the quality of some those of dudes. But I have a funny gut feeling about Cooper Kupp,my spidey senses(let me get that right or Blake will jump all over me) tell me he is going to be the gem of the second tier grouping. Hope those practices last week made him a priority in the eyes of Bucs management. And again Blake was the first I noticed to mention the kid.

  8. Bird Says:

If we go all offense with 1st 3 picks and the top receivers all gone then here is plan b
    1-oj Howard tight end Alabama
2-receiver zay jones / Kupp/ Reynolds from Texas am
3- running back Kareem hunt Toledo

    Weaponsfor Jameis

    4- safety
    5/6/7 get lucky

  9. LocalJoker Says:

    Sunny,

Courtland Sutton returned to school. Did not come out this year. Don’t confuse with CB Cameron Sutton who did.

  10. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

Kupp could be the standout of the 2nd tier receivers. Idk tho man its a tough one for me. I watched tape this morning on Josh Reynolds, Zay Jones, and Cooper Kupp.

Honestly wasn’t all that impressed with Zay Jones. After the game yesterday I was thinking Round 2 for him. After watching his tape I wouldn’t pick him before the 3rd. Maybe it is just the system he was in because it seemed like he only worked within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage. I watched his game that Mike Mayock was talking about yesterday vs South Carolina where he had 22 catches. He averaged 8.6 yards per catch.

Kupp’s tape is hard to judge because you can just tell he is plain better than everyone else on the field. He does have that Home run ability Koetter is looking for and it showed in his game vs Washington State.

Out of the three I was most impressed by Reynolds. Love his size and length, big catch radius, good target in the red zone (watch his bowl game vs Kansas State), and most importantly he gets vertical (had a 92 yard TD vs Arkansas). If he can just bulk up a little bit and get around 200 lbs. He could be a legit play maker.

  11. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Bird

Don’t put too much stock in the Senior Bowl. Kareem Hunt will still most likely be a Day 3 pick in the 4th or 5th round.

  12. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Like that assessment Pop.

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

    Agree with Bird
    1- O J Howard
2-Josh Reynolds( or one of the other Wrs he listed)
    3- Kareem Hunt

The weapons Jameis had, at the end of the season- were terrible.
It has to be all about Jameis

In adfition to those draft picks, we need to sign a Rt, De, and vet WR.

So cool, now that team is in good hands

  14. Mojiska Says:

I hope ross is off the board when we pick. Not a first round talent imo. Can he be a true #1 receiver in the league? If the answer is no then he isn’t worth a first round pick.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Been saying for awhile in here.

Too early to speculate on draft picks for me. Must see free agency first.

Apparently many of you don’t need to see free agency first and have made up your mind how they should draft. Some of you even have your player in mind.

Buc fans are excited again Joe. That’s a GOOD thing!

  16. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

No way he’ll ever be a #1. The 2014 class of WRs had a number of day 1 studs don’t see that happening wit this one in many cases. Last years class had some nice names but appear to be more on the developmental side. Was it Corey Coleman of Baylor that went first WR overall??? I can’t quite recall but thankfully we are not looking for a number 1 which is why if we are passing on the most explosive RB round 1(whom ever that may be) then yes grab the surest looking DE possible.

  17. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Lol 87 hell join in the festivities. Throw a name or two out there
    1. OJ Howard
    2. Mixon
    3. Reynolds

  18. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

That is good a thing 87 matter of fact that’s a great thing. When I first discovered this site the post primarily were gloomy. Its nice to see The change take hold. As far as the spot I’m hoping we go first round when it comes to free agency I’m no longer sure I would even want Bell if he were available seeing his performance last week. To me it lacked heart. I’m not a steeler fan by any means but I expected more from Bell against the Pats and he came up extra small imo. Playing Big against the little guys then shrinking against the Bullies leaves a Bad taste in my mouth.

  19. Jeagan1999 Says:

I still like OJ Howard in round 1….would cause matchup nightmares and give us a lot of flexibility in 2 TE sets(with Brate). Then D’Onta Freeman in round 2….a great 1-2 punch to go along with Quizz Rodgers at RB! Then get the best of who’s left at WR in round 3. We would have a very dynamic offense!

  20. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

What Whata said. We all have our favs. Just good debating between now and when it gets real come draft night. I like seeing the names forces me to go an check sone of these dudes out. Many of you have a special gift for noticing talent. You make me look good at my place of business sharing some of the ideas with my work mates.

  21. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Only way I’d pass on Howard is if Barnett is there. Yes I know Howard could have a quicker impact but we still need another explosive DE. IMO. Learning from from Beast Master Ayers

  22. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Jeagan we’ve been saying that for awhile here on jbf but how much two TE sets have we seen from Koetters Offense??? Does he have a history of that in either Atlanta or Jville??? Not downing your idea bro, I’m just curious is all.

  23. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Barnett looks really good. I’m trying not to make the Von Bell comparison but looking at his face mask and watching him it leads me to believe that is who he patterns his game after.

  24. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

He has become second on my wish list And that’s coming from someone who wants the first three picks to be offensive.

  25. Bird Says:

No. THey already listed Kareem hunt all the way up to second round potential so 2-4 more likely. So I took the middle number. Check Pewter report on scouting him. And yes I am aware this is senior bowl and yes he was top guy at senior bowl. But you also have guys going in 1st round at senior bowl

  26. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Nos Bos… Exactly. I love coming here to get my info. What a change of culture. Gone are most of the trolls.
I can feel the heartbeat of TAMPA coming back to life… EVERYTHING is going as planned…
We are turning the corner as a franchise n fanbase. Together we will make the league take notice
    #waterworld

  27. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

We run a lot of two TE sets. Whenever there is a 6th OL on the field it is usually a “2 TE” set. Brate can’t block which is why Koetter does that.

  28. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Depends on who falls to 19. I’m like NOSBOS. If Dalvin is there we gotta take him. As for moving up to get him…I become more cautious.

If Dalvin is NOT there…I like Joey’s thoughts about even trading back and picking up some pieces.

I would LOVE to figure a way to sign DeSean Jackson or Stills…draft Dalvin and draft Curtis Samuels. Talk about weapons for #3. 4.35 speed in Jackson and 4.4 speed in both Dalvin out of the backfield and Samuels from all over the field. He’s called the next Percy Harvin…and my son the Buckeye claims Samuels has electrifying “football” speed even better than his 40 time. He claims Samuel was the best player on the Buckeyes this year.

IF we could pull that off we do not need a TE in the draft. Brate is just now coming into his own. He has two deficiencies…he’s not a burner and he needs to beef up and improve his blocking. The first will be negated if we have THREE other players who can take it to the house…as for the second I believe Brate a Harvard dude will figure it out. He’s in the gym right now and has nutrionists and physiologists…an entire team of experts helping him get stronger and working on his blocking technique.

  29. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

REALLY starting to like Barnett if somehow he’s there at 19. For the record all I wanted was lineman period lol. Again if Mixon is there in the second. I’m snatching his a$s quickly. Then grab Reynolds
All this AFTER… We’ve signed D. Poe. Stills. Ron Leary (rt?) Garçon/Pryor. Or my ultimate wish… Get Brandon Marshall to play with GODZILLA.

  30. MadMax Says:

Welcome to the Barnett love nosbos (and I think you meant von miller, not von bell, safety). Its possible he does fall to the mid teens with others needing qb’s and rb’s. If the draft wasnt so deep in wr and rb, I’d be ok. But pass rushers like him and Solomon are hard to come by and we still need that.

  31. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Love Cooper Kupp, Kid could end up being a Jordy Nelson Type developmental pick, and as Jeremiah noted he is already an advanced route runner, with reliable hands. Now he just needs to stay healthy, and continue to hone his body, and get faster and stronger.

Really liked the effort Zay Jones showed a ton of effort and grit on contested catches, and seemed like he was getting open constantly.

Josh Reynolds looked solid as well, high ceiling guy, 6’4 height, lanky arms, crisp routes, just gotta wait on that 40 time.

And there’s my favorite guy at the senior bowl, who was crushing it all week, and had a relatively quiet game, O.J. Howard, I just have a gut feeling that he is going to establish himself as a diligent blocker and matchup nightmare from week 1 onwards. Dude was making $$$ all week long. I just hope he didn’t boost his stock out too much lol.

  32. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Mannn all that speed over night. That would be a sight for sore eyes Pete. Years one would overwhelming for defensive Qtrs seeing is how there wouldn’t be any film on those dude’s all together. I remember when ask that speed coalesced in St. Loius. They were a problem for most teams just based on speed alone.

  33. Buc1987 Says:

Well I’m a Corey Davis fan if he drops to 19.

Like Howard too cause JW loves his TE’s.

RB really still is an afterthought for me right now, being that it’s a deep draft.

With all that said, bring on free agency…soon.

  34. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Whata ion know why folks are not mentioning Marshall as an option??? Yea his age maybe but I think how he an Jeffery have everyone fits when he was in the Chi.

  35. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

My bad Max yea Miller not Bell.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

    This is like Christmas.

  37. Buc1987 Says:

NOS wants a Dalvin Cook action figure.

I want a Corey Davis action figure.

    Please Santa, please.

  38. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So is it true Josh Reynolds on record saying he wants to be a Buc??? If so that’s means a little something to me Man.

  39. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

😊87 if you can find me one I’d be highly grateful. I’d cut your yard for a year bro.

  40. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Nos Bos. I have a couple homie who are DIE-HARD noles and asked them about Cook. Gotta say it was 50-50. I for one don’t much care for the smaller backs. I like the Blount, Peterson bruiser type. With that being said, lol not to piss you off, but yea I’ll take Barnett over ya boy… What say you. No ranting. A sensible take… Since this draft is heavy in RB this year. Given Barnett is a special ALSO.
Give me Barnett and get Mixon with the next 2nd

  41. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Idk if he did, But it wouldn’t surprise me if Reynolds wants to be a Buc.
Since he and ME13 were college teammates.

  42. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Stpete

The “draft a TE early” argument has nothing to do with Brate. It is about upgrading Luke Stocker. This is how I look at this idea.

The concept of the offense is to establish the run and work play action. Idk the exact percentage, but multiple times per game we run the ball out of a “2 TE” set with Stocker as 1 TE and an OL as the other TE. You can’t really run play action out of that since 2 of your receiver options are a TE that isnt effective as a receiver and an OL. So when you line up in that formation, to me it’s kind of obvious what you’re doing.

Now lets say OJ Howard does fall to us in the draft, which doesn’t look like it will happen after this past week, and we pick him.

He immediately upgrades the entire passing game, but for this specific formation he becomes a legit weapon defenses will have to worry about whether he comes in for the extra OL or for Stocker. Making this formation a lot more versatile.

This thought is what first turned me on to the idea of taking OJ Howard round 1 and the thought that backed me off of it a little bit is that there will be TEs that won’t be as good as OJ but still better than Stocker in the middle rounds ie: Jeremy Sprinkle

  43. macabee Says:

Careful guys on the Josh Reynolds size. I like him too. Have him in my mock draft. But his weigh-in measurements were not as advertised. He is not 6-4. He is 6-2 and 6/8ths roughly 6-3. The real knock is that he only weighs 187lbs.

    https://walterfootball.com/seniorbowl2017weighinWR.php

  44. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

    Who’s coming with me?
    Lol
To get Brandon Marshall in here would be incredible. I mean it WR Corp would instantly be upgraded with talent AND knowledge. Add that speed that Stpetebucsfan wants and BOOM.

  45. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

There are quotes in this article from both Reynolds and from Evans about playing with Reynolds

  46. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Macabee

Yea, his weight is the main knock on him. I remember either eading or hearing somewhere that his goal was to get up to 200 lbs. Like I said earlier, if he can bulk up to 200 he can be a legit play maker.

  47. Joeypoppems Says:

the 200 lb thing is actually in the link I posted

  48. Blake_bucsfan Says:

This JoeyPoppems fellow is a smart lad. That is all.

  49. Blake_bucsfan Says:

And my bad, I coulda swore I read Reynolds was 6’4.

  50. Joeypoppems Says:

Yea he was listed at 6′ 4″ 190 from the school I believe.

  51. macabee Says:

    Blake,

You did read that and it says that in his A&M bio. It’s common practice among athletes to advertise. Back in the day when I was doing the bar scene, you would be amazed at the size numbers I was throwin’ round at about closing time. lol.

  52. Blake_bucsfan Says:

They must have measured him in cleats LOL!

  53. Buc1987 Says:

Does Hargreaves look 5-11 to you guys?

    Not to me.

  54. Rob Says:

    Howard 1st , Mixon 2nd. #weaponsforjamis

  55. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Last year who did we have who could take it to the house? Seriously…NOBODY

Our offense scared nobody…except for us at times. LOL

When your fastest guys are CFL worthy as Joe likes to point out and they are not even good enough to stick on your practice squad you have a SLOW team.

Speed kills! Can you guys tell yet…I want a massive injection of speed on this team…I listen to all of you as long as you’re talking about guys with speed…hence while I love me some Dalvin I’m open to Mixon or any player with a sub 4.5 40…I’m tired of 4.55 players…yeah I know they can be part of the puzzle but we already have them! What we don’t have is blazing speed.

  56. Guzzie Says:

Keep an eye on Kareem Hunt, he looks like Marshawn Lynch when he runs, he’s 208 but almost 5’11 he could easily put on more muscle, everyone thinks Lynch was a bigger back but he was only 215, my comparison to Lynch is in his film, every time he gets hit guys bounce of him and he get 5-10 extra yards, watch his film, Mixon is my favorite in this draft, Cook second, but Hunt is right there with them, as long as he runs better than a 4.53

  57. DBrad67 Says:

I’m like 87 it’s waaaay to early to speculate but like what WhattheBuc has for his top three pretty nice

  58. BucFan 92 Says:

    1. Should def try to get Dalvin Cook or Peppers we need a safety and running back.
    2. Zay Jones or Njoku
    3. A Center

  59. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I hear you Whata but me and Pete are in agreement when it comes to this speed thing. You and others like big bruisers. I like speed slasher. We’ll all see what Koetter and Licht like come draft night. Hard for me to believe with the production of my guy his talents went unnoticed buy those two. Again I feel Koetter kept talking to Daniel Lasco last combine because he has a specific vision for that position. I could be wrong I just happen to feel my guy fits the mold he saw in Lasco. Just more explosive like he continues to preach everytime he’s in front of a microphone.

  60. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And to answer your question Pete we had no-one that could. My guy 6 touchdowns over 70 yards or more while in school.

  61. Guzzie Says:

Also as far as pass rushers, Chris Harris out of Missouri looks like a beast, 6’3 265, has not only speed and power, he has an unbelievable spin move and other refined pass rush moves, he’s either a natural or he’s been trained really well, he blows up the combine he’s not gonna make it to 19, Derek Barnett looks slow on film interested what his 40 is gonna be, be he runs a 4.8, but Noah ran 4.84 with a reported hamstring problem he got at the Senior Bowl so never know

  62. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

When you can beat 6 over 70 from any RB in college holla at me. If not gone somewhere wit any one of them being better. You don’t just so happen 5500 career combined total yards people.

  63. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And see y’all new flavor of the week mixon(wonder how long this one will stick) me And Blake got money on his draft future for a reason. Someone posted yesterday about reading something about already hearing his name coming off draft boards. But go ahead thinking that video doesn’t hurt him. We’ll see draft night.

  64. Blake_bucsfan Says:

@Guzzie, I too was on the Barnett hype train, but I’ve read some scouts poking holes in his film. Saying that he won’t be able to over power NFL Tackles the way he did college ones. And that he won’t have enough speed to bend the outside.

Thats the funny thing about film tho, everyone has a different perception, we all have different eyes.

And by no means is talent evaluation an exact science. If it were, Tom Brady and Antonio Brown wouldnt have made it through 6 rounds of the draft.

  65. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And let me clarify, that’s 6 runs not just any play. 6 runs 70 yards or more on his resume.

  66. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Call me crazy guys, but my opinions grow and change in accordance with the learning of new information. I try to keep an open mind.

  67. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I think that’s the type of speed St.Pete referencing.

  68. Guzzie Says:

Blake…we are t talking about the few that slipped, we are talking about a potential 1st round player in Barnett, he reminds me of Adrian Slowborn, where as Chris Harris looks like a Justin Houston type pass rusher, explosive (Harris) versus power (Barnett) I’d prefer explosive

  69. Guzzie Says:

Aren’t talking bout the ones that slipped I meant

  70. Guzzie Says:

    1st DE Chris Harris 6’3 265
    2nd RB Joe Mixon 6’1 227
    3rd WR Dede Westbrook/Zay Jones/Curtis Samuel
    GUZZIES way too early wishlist

  71. Guzzie Says:

Plus a solid number 2 WR in FA

  72. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

The video already hurt him Nos Bos. That being said. We shouldn’t turn down a potential 1 if he’s there when we pick. All these weapons we want most likely won’t be there when we pick. Mixon could be. We have strong leaders in our locker room to guide him. He’s been good for a min now.
IMHO we stung when we got Spawn in the second last year, let’s do it again. His immaturity made his stock drop, not talent. We can be that team that lets him showcase who he really is.

  73. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Guzzie you think mixon will be in Chicago draft night??? If he isn’t( Which he won’t be) it will be telling as to where he and agent think he will be selected. Might have a camera in his living room but he won’t be Chicago.

  74. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Whata I don’t own a team and I’m not GM ot HC. I’m just a little familiar with the atmosphere in the league when it comes to that right now. Were it not for a video I truly believe Ray Rice would-be gotten a second by now. That video is damming.

  75. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Whata if there had been video of Spawn ingesting mollie do think you he would’ve been drafted in the second???

  76. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Duke may very well be a 1st round talent but weve seen people draft stock drop for less. There was no video on Tyrik Hill and he fell to where???

  77. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Guzzie, thanks for the info. I’ll take explosive too! Where is Harris projected? Nice wish list btw
I’m like Blake, have to stay open minded. Lots of possibilities.

  78. Guzzie Says:

Sorry it’s Charles Harris not Chris Harris

  79. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I’ll you almost out the entire draft thats where.

  80. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

I feel ya Nos Bos, haven’t seen it… I do understand visuals though.

  81. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Some say Beluchess will take him. Hmm Beluchess didn’t touch Tyrik Hill. The Hernandez situation ain’t that old people.

  82. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

That’s all I’m saying Whata visuals are tough.

  83. Guzzie Says:

Whatabuc….first time I heard of Harris, NFL network Daniel Jeremiah mocked him to us at 19, then I looked him up and read what was written, BSPn had him as a top ten prospect in an early December article, checked out his YouTube highlights

  84. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I believe that if a playoff team needy at RB, or a team on the verge of being a force in the playoffs( Like Us ), feel as tho that have the Leaders in the locker room, they wouldn’t hesitate to spend a late first or early 2nd rounder on Joe Mixon.

  85. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

The players that go to the actual draft and in the green room are invited to be there. Doubt Mixon will get invited because of the incident, not because he wouldnt want to go.

    @WhatdaBUCisthis

Charls Harris will be a 1st round pick. Daniel Jerimiah mocked him to the Bucs at 19

  86. Guzzie Says:

Nolebuc…seriously doubt Mixon will be invited to the draft, but you have to admit, Mixon is being talked about a lot on JBF, where he goes is immaterial, as long as the Bucs get him, quite of few Bucs fans will be extremely happy

  87. Blake_bucsfan Says:

JoeyPoppems let us know the other day that all of his teammates and coaches rave about how great he is in the Locker room. He has been receiving counselling for the last 3 years of his own free will. And he hasn’t had recurring behavioral issues since then.

  88. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

That’s my point Pop. Look ion care if people prefer him over Dalvin that’s y’all mind. I’m just saying lets not act like that occurrence is just going away. Tunsil was sweating last draft.

  89. martinii Says:

I am not going to run out and buy my Zaye Jones Buc’s jersey just yet. I agree we got a preview into possibly more WR potential in this draft through the Senior Bowl Lense but keep in mind it is a long time until April and the Combine is going to produce a host of workout warriors as will Pro Days. The proof is in how these prospects performed in their college careers, who their schools competed with, their durability and off field activities. I read an article recently that we should be glad Mel Kiper isn’t picking for us and being a close follower of many drafts I can tell you the talking heads are wrong most of the time. If you want truth look at who the Patriots have drafted over the last several years and how many playoff and Super Bowls they have been in.

  90. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Tunsil was a 1st rounder if I recall correctly tho.

  91. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Guzzie were I not a Seminole you same people would be banging the door down for Dalvin Cook. I’ve watched y’all come up wit guy after guy trying to drown my voice about Dalvin out nice try won’t work. I could care less about a prevailing sentiment on jbf we’ll all see what’s good come draft night.

  92. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Yep and lost money cause his stock fell. Now if you believe that reifer and domestic violence are being viewed the same by the league then that’s you bro. I feel differently. Its not that football players just began hitting women h3ll no. Its just that this video era we live inn now has heightened awareness.

  93. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Of course I’m a model citizen after indecent I’m trying to get in the league. And maybe he truly is,ion know the kid. I’m just saying video exist. And that it doesn’t help him.

  94. Blake_bucsfan Says:

The peanut gallery, and the talking heads, will all raise their voices in displeasure for what ever team chooses to select Joe Mixon In the first 3 rounds.

But the scouts & Gm’s will take all the information into account, realize it was a one time incident, made by a 17 year old minor, who has been in counselling since. And they will see that footage, see all the traits that Jump off the screen, see that he shared time over 2 seasons in college, has a sterling blemish-free injury history, and will undoubtedly have fresh legs.

Someone will take a chance on him. And I’d rather it be us than the Seattle PeeSquats or the Bellicheats.

  95. Guzzie Says:

Nole…Dalvin would be a great pickup, he’s legit no doubt, didn’t he also have some domestic incident early in his career too I may be confusing him with someone else if so my bad, point being young people make mistakes,Greg Hardy and Ray Rice were a grown men, they aren’t as deserving of a second chances, Big Ben and Jameis turned their lives around, these young kids like Tyreek and Mixon deserve the opportunity to get their lives straight, they might not of course but at least they weren’t grown men yet

  96. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’d be OK with OJ Howard in the first as long as we can get Kupp in the 2nd and can get a RB in the 3rd. A DE in the first would be fine with me also. Can’t have enough pass rushers, especially when our DL always seem to end up injured.

  97. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

Watch the press conference he did before the Sugar Bowl then form an opinion on him. I watched all 25 minutes and to me he seemed genuinely remorseful and has learned from it and has matured.

  98. Guzzie Says:

Just looked it up Dalvin was accused of punching a girl, but was found not guilty, guess there was no video so must not of been true, being sarcastic, regardless something happened that night, young people do stupid things, it’s up to them to get it together, Dalvin did, Mixon looks like he’s on his way

  99. Joeypoppems Says:

And on the topic of pass rushers in the 1st round. I still think Taco Charlton will be a better pick for the Bucs than Charles Harris. Both of them can come in and be have an impact, but Taco is still very raw in his technique. He can be developed and take his overall game to another level whereas Harris is already a polished player. With our current DL situation we dont need an immediate 3 down starter. Harris has the higher floor, Taco has the higher ceiling.

  100. Andy Norton Says:

I am as excited as every Buc fan on here, like a lot of the players everyone’s throwing out. However until Free Agency gets here and J.L and D.K makes some splash picks like they did this past year, which was a great job with Grimes, Ayers, Agler and Smith and I feel like I am leaving someone out. Fingers crossed we can get like minded players at their respected positions. I believe then we will have a better understanding of the draft and with J.L anything can still happen. Let’s face it outside of Evans and Winston I didn’t see a lot of the players he drafted. They have a grand plan and that’s why they are there. So, it’s fun to speculate but it’s to early for our team to have mock drafts. We have to many holes on offense and defense. Let’s have a great free agency and a great draft and hope we go deep in the playoffs in JW’S 3rd year.
We are building for the future, but let’s not wait. The time is now to make a run and should be that way every year. Go Buc’s

  101. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Bingo Guzzie. Now you get it.

  102. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Pop I don’t have an opinion of mixon I’m just stating my thoughts on folks being giddy about a kid I think may have trouble being drafted as high as some you think he will is all. I wish all these young men the best, many come from obscure backgrounds.

  103. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Andy only part of your post I disagree with what many like to say about too many holes. I disagree a team with too many holes is the Cleveland browns. We on the other hand I feel are a piece or two away from contending. We all want a another Wideout ,I want a stsr RB. H3ll we get Calais Campbell in free agency we set up in my opinion. 9 and 7 don’t quite happens with “too many holes”. I’m not of the mindset that a probowler is required at every position to contend in that league.

  104. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Thus defense was statistically the best in the league for a 6 or 7 week stretch. To me that’s telling. Had the O been able to produce more down the stretch we might’ve been playoff bound this season. Detroit definitely wasn’t deserving.

  105. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And for the record I’ll take Calais Campbell over any DE entering this draft.

  106. Andy Norton Says:

    At Nole
I don’t disagree with you at all, I would love us to get Stills and C.Campbell. I also believe that Tampa is a destination that players want to play for!!!! I am maybe going to far saying we have to many needs and holes. More like depth. Hopefully we knock it outside the park in Free Agency and the Draft and go deep in the playoffs. I am all for building for the future, but the time is now and should be every year now. We are proven, good coaching, good front office and a franchise QB. The recipe for a SuperBowl is here!!!!!!
    Go Buc’s

  107. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I really don’t have an opinion either way on Mixion. If we draft him, I hopes he becomes the best RB in the league and will cheer him on. If we don’t, I won’t follow him at all. I just want the best players. I guess that IS an opinion. Oh well!

  108. tnew Says:

I guess this year when he was suspended for a game for an altercation with a parking lot attendant is being “totally clean” Watched the kid… he’s got some skills no doubt, but some of you guys are acting like he is Fournette. I can’t totally speak. I have just watched his highlights. I haven’t really studied him yet. But Ive watched two full games of his so far, he’s fine. Upgrade on Simms for sure. Highlights for running backs from spread option teams are really deceiving . He is a 50:50 blocker. Can catch out of the backfield. Runs with a high motor and energy. Doesn’t shy away from contact. Appears to have a great speed to size ratio. Good not great agility. Good but not great vision from what I’ve seen. Just two games in so So far when watching quickly of Mixon, Fournette and Cook. There looks to be a significant step from Fournette to Cook and then to Mixon. For those that think the video won’t matter….. Tunsil was arguably the best player in the draft. Slipped to 14 due to a pot smoking video. Blount was anticipated to be a 3rd rounder.. undrafted.. Lael Collins.. a guy I was begging the bucs to draft from the 5th round on had first round grades. His pregnant, ex-girlfriend was murdered. At no time was he listed as a suspect, he went totally undrafted. The list goes on and on but thinking that video has minimal affect on his status… I don’t agree with. I see him as a second round back so far. Factor in the film and it goes into the 4th or 5th. I’d take him in the 4th, but I’m not the gm. I might even draft up in the 4th to pick him.. maybe. Blake is correct, just takes one team to love him, just hope its not the bucs. The full games are there. Watch one of his, then one of Cooks, then one of Fournette’s, then do it again. Find a common opponent if possible. Think Auburn played them all. I can’t wait until Vochs Lombardi reviews him… he’s a tuber but he’s a good source.

  109. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_lIFQe-gcs

@Tnew I spoke with Voch Recently on stream about the subject.

Fastfoward to 45:57 minutes in to hear it.

he agrees with me and his personal ranking is Fournette, Mixon, Cook.

I was a bit tipsy at the time so don’t hate. xD

  110. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Ain’t nothing wrong wit a lil tipsy I’ll definitely be just that next weekend. Super Sunday my biggest holiday of the year.

  111. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

Campbell might be better than one of the DE in the draft this year, but will he be better 3 years from now when these rookies will be hitting their prime? We building a dynasty out here. Not a 1 and done team. Gotta think long term when drafting.

  112. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Nosbos

Just wait til the Bucs are on Super bowl Sunday lol. Not going to be enough alcohol in the world!

  113. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

See I don’t wanna come across too critical of anyone attempting to fulfil they’re dream. But I don’t follow other schools too tough. I keep an eye the Canes and gators because we usually play both schools each year. With that being said duke coming from a read option offense is news to me and imo that make a difference. Does it mean he won’t be effective in the league no. But how quickly will he adjust to a regular pro style offense if he indeed is taken by a team that has none of that in its offense??? I think its legitimate question.

  114. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Won’t be enough in the world Pop.

  115. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Same can be said for WRs that come from read option or spread systems. The one exception has been Josh Gordon who clearly would’ve been dominant in anything.

  116. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I’m looking at NFL networks Superbowl matchup from the past. Hawks and Steelers on right now. Hawks were statistically dominating but went to half down 7/3. Steelers come out on the second play from scrimmage Parker gose 75 yards. Bettis can be seen on the sideline saying “there is no substitute for speed”. I agree.

  117. Andy Norton Says:

    Well said Nole: SPEED KILLS

  118. FutureBucsGM Says:

At 19, with no trickery and with the information made available to me at this moment, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft RB Dalvin Cook. Last year revealed alot about the team. Safety play is acceptable right now no need to spend heavy on that Tandy and McDougal are a serviceable back field. Tight end play was fine. Wide receivers can be addressed later one with the depth that’s available well into Round 5. The glaring need is running back. While Jacquizz Rodgers is steady with alot of carries nothing made the bucs more dangerous then big plays out of the back field. With the depth at running back and Dalvin’s injury history I believe him to be available. A better RB at a better price that could replace both Martin and Chuck Sims.

And in the 2nd I’m grabbing Trey Hendrickson or The Villanova nightmare to pair with Gholston, we got alot of speed off the edge. Watch out for Jacques and Howard to be back.

3rd round. Look out for OU Dede Westbrook or OSU LB Rae McMillan

  119. Blake_bucsfan Says:

@FutureBucsGm It’s gonna be hard to pick dalvin at 19 after the Jaguars take him at #4

  120. salish_seamonster Says:

I’m on board with FA DeSean Jackson plus a WR in rd 1 or 2. Then maybe we can get some quality out of that CFL guy as a 5th receiver. Could be a big turnaround at the position.

  121. FutureBucsGM Says:

Never has Tom Coughlin chosen a running back that high and I highly doubt he will let happen. TC is going D Line specifically I think he’s going Jared Allen he needs someone to disrupt the game upfront aren’t many special 3 techs in the league Coughlin gets his and Jags become a problem.

  122. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I agree with Salish, WR in FA and an early round pick. The development of Winston is the first priority. I’d take a DE in round 1 if Licht doesn’t see offensive value when we pick. I’m good with WR and RB in rounds 2 and 3.

  123. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So Blake you think Dalvin will go earlier than Fournette the no current mock has any RB in front of??? Why so??? Would love to hear your expertise.

  124. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Be careful BucGM they’ll gang up on you singing any Cook praises.

  125. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2685963-2017-nfl-mock-draft-post-wildcard-round-predictions

  126. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I’m yet to see a single mock that has any RB going before Fournette. Actually mocks are starting have Dalvin go after our pick at 19. My partner in cincy say he seen one had him going 23rd.

  127. Blake_bucsfan Says:

i’ve seen him mocked to many different spots. The Jaguars being one of them. I think it makes sense since the Jags have a need at RB. And they love to draft local talent.

  128. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Now that’s funny😂you think old school Coughlin would be slightly influenced by the bleacher report. C’mon man.

  129. Blake_bucsfan Says:

was merely posting a mock draft friend.

  130. Blake_bucsfan Says:

were you not just referencing Mock drafts as a source? I could’ve sworn you were.

  131. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

C’mon bro you’re a new HC with a porus O line. You telling me your biggest priority would be a super talented RB??? Lol.

  132. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I sure did and the fact that some have him going asc late as 23 don’t mean spit dude.

  133. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I still maintain that he will be gone in the top 15 picks. And that we don’t need to trade up for anyone.

  134. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

You should worry yourself more about mixon being taken by anyone more so than Dalvin landing anywhere but Tampa. I’ll probably never here from you about those ends which will be cool. I’ll just make it business to remind everyone everyday your not a man of your word so don’t waste your time betting the young man.

  135. Blake_bucsfan Says:

And yeah matt millers latest mock has us taking O.J. Howard with Dalvin still on the board. And I would be hella down with that. But that’s me you know.

  136. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Matt miller who spoke down about Fameis. Yea I get it. But tell matt I already have a starting TE.

  137. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And maybe you wouldn’t trade up but Jason Licht has already proven a willingness to do so bro.

  138. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Lot’s of people were wrong about Fameis Yameis. But I’m certain that Miller had us taking Yameis for like 2 months before the Draft.

  139. Blake_bucsfan Says:

He’s yet to trade up in the 1st round tho dude.

    An important distinction.

  140. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So dob yourself a favor and kiss that 2018 1st rounder good by. If need be it’ll be loooonnngg gone.

  141. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Let me say again if need be you can kiss that 2018 1st rounder good by. It’ll be looonnnggg gone.

  142. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Boy I sure hope not, Jason Licht has hit on every 1st round pick he’s made. So those things are like gold bars around here dude.

  143. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

You know the same deal the Bills did Watkins.. Didn’t set them back five years.

  144. Blake_bucsfan Says:

We’re trying to build a Dynasty round here bub. Dynasties aren’t built by trading away 1st round draft picks.

  145. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

A GameChanger would be gold around here dude.

  146. Blake_bucsfan Says:

LOL that’s why the Bills are looking to draft Sammy Watkins replacement? And have yet to make the playoffs? I’m 100 percent positive that if the Bills could do it over they would not have trading up.

They should have stayed put and got OBJ instead.

  147. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    *traded* up

  148. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Dude after this draft we’ll drafting at the bottom of the draft for many years to come. Our first will be like early seconds anyway.

  149. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

That’s your mind not sure Bills brass share your sentiment. And OBJ if not careful will be ran out of NY messing around. That city eats its young bro.

  150. Blake_bucsfan Says:

And we’ll still build through the Draft just like the best dynasties have Done.

The Steelers, the Patriots, The Broncos, The Seahawks, they all pick near the bottom every year as well, and they build just fine through the draft.

In Fact, Billicheat has made a reputation on trading back and getting more picks.

  151. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I’m positive that the bills would rather have someone else.

Mike Evans, OBJ, Jarvis Landry, and Allen Robinson all have better numbers to this point than Watkins.

And none of them cost 2 first rounders.

  152. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Ion know what GM you been watching. But the Bucs GM the current one doesn’t sit on his hands draft night homie. Don’t expect to start this draft. Not with that Seminole dangling in face.

  153. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I say again, Jason licht has only done his wheeling and dealing in the 2nd round or later.

The only trade he’s made in round 1 is when he traded back.

  154. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Y’all love to lie when its convenient pull up the deal and show it to jbf if it was two 1st.

  155. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So you believe a GM that has shown a propensity to deal draft Not would never deal in the first round??? That’s what you believe???

  156. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000348048/article/bills-grab-sammy-watkins-after-trading-up-to-no-4

took me 5 seconds to find the proof.

  157. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I believe that Jason Licht is wise enough to not deal away something as valuable as a first round draft pick.

  158. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

Curtis Samuel from Ohio st is gonna be the new version of Percy Harvin, but without the ailments..

He’s rated as the 6th best RB and the 4th best WR on espn draft rankings.

He projects to be a #1/#2 WR in the NFL (think Percy Harvin).

I would LOVE him for our 2nd rd pick, but he might end up going before our 2nd pick once he posts a 4.37 40 yard dash time (projected to be the fastest guy at the combine).

  159. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Curtis Samuel is a heck of a player. Would love to get him in the 2nd or 3rd bro.

  160. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Bro 2014 was a swap. They took Watkins in the 1st of 2014 did they not???

  161. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Yes they swapped from 9 to 4. Used one 1st rounder, the 4th over all pick on watkins. And traded away one more first rounder, their 2015 pick. And a 4th rounder.

1+1=2 so sammy cost 2 first rounders.

  162. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So you telling me a GM that traded up to get a specific kicker wouldn’t trade up if necessary to get the best RB if he wanted him??? Rather say to h3ll wit the repor Fameis already has with Cam Brate and draft Howard. Really???

  163. MadMax Says:

Well, Im like 87 and some others about waiting until after FA. I always have. I also like to wait until after the senior bowl and the combine.

I’ll throw a nugget though for you guys if we can get him with a 4th or later…..

WR Austin Carr out of Northwestern. I know we have a slot in Hump but this guy could turn into something more.

Im also watching safety Obi Melifonwu….probably wont slip past the 2nd, or even 1st…..but I wouldnt mind trading up into the 2nd/early 3rd for him if he’s still there in the later picks.

  164. MadMax Says:

    found it: https://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2016/12/27/rsp-boiler-room-no-61-wr-austin-carr/

  165. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Now show us all the 2014 pre draft order. I think you’ll see the Bills had one selection in the 1st that draft. Meaning in 2014 that was basically a swap bro.

  166. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

You can word it however you feel. They swap 9 to 4 in 2014 and gave Cleveland they’re 2015 1st for the solid.

  167. Blake_bucsfan Says:

ok, so if a player is selected in the 1st round. They cost one first round pick to acquire. If you then trade away an additional pick. They cost 2 first rounders.

    Capiche?

  168. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    it also backfired on them.

  169. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Again word it how you so choose. Its simple they moved up and gave the next years 1st to do so.

  170. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Deny it how you so choose, they used 2 first round picks for a player, and it didnt work out. Like it normally doesn’t.

  171. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Backfired??? How so??? Cause a few other WRs from that draft that will go down as a historic draft for WRs have better numbers at this point??? Duke career still young, who are you to say what he will or will not from this point going forward. Is that that Ted Thompsom coming out ya???

  172. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I’m still trying to figure how they used two when they drafted 4th overall in 2014.

  173. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

To my knowledge they had a 1st round pick in 2016.

  174. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    K. Not gonna sit here repeating myself. Later.

  175. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Bro the Bills selected Shaq Lawson 19th last draft. Where is this mystery other 1st they gave up???

  176. Blake_bucsfan Says:

I’ve already written it down twice. Use your eyes and quit being dumb.

  177. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @ nosbos
They bill traded a 1st and a 4 tho for watkins

  178. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    4th^^^

  179. BuccaneEric75 Says:

So, this offseason is going to be the “Nole-Blake” rivalry. If it’s like the “87-ErikClean/ a lot of other posters” rivalry, this will make one hell of an offseason! I was on 87s side 2 years ago. I’m not sure which I’m on now. While I’d like Cook if he’s there at 19, I don’t want to trade up for him. If he’s there and we pass, I’ll be good too. Get your popcorn ready!

  180. USFBUC Says:

Hopefully the Joes will post a running FA/Draft discussion board for us. I would like to see everyone’s thoughts collected on both areas.

  181. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Eric75
lol I’m already tired of it. I love Calvin cook, but I am not of the belief that we should trade up for him. So I see both points of view

  182. PABucsLover Says:

Everyone calling out Howard, that is not what we need in the first. Sign a WR like Robert Woods in FA. Grab a DE like Solomoan Thomas from Stanford or even a OT from Wisconsin. Hmmm? In the 2nd, could grab David Njoku from Miami, highest ceiling. Grab more WR in FA, or maybe get Kupp in the 3rd, Reynolds in the 5th. Wayne Gallman or Samuel are some of the RBs that could be interesting.

  183. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I know GOAT Ion mention that 4th cause many cases a 4th becomes insignificant. But he trying to convince me they up two 1st when they didn’t. Swaping and stil picking in the first round is not giving up a first😂. Ishh funny.

  184. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    Not bad ideas Lover.

  185. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Never said that they traded 2 1st rounders. I’m saying that effectively, they used 2 1st round picks, those being the 2014 & 2015 1st round picks on Sammy Watkins. I really don’t see what’s so hard to understand about that.

  186. Buccfan37 Says:

I like Mixon and the other players people are talking about. Cook as the first pick if there seems doubtful in my guess. I would not oppose the pick.

  187. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I don’t see how in the h3ll selecting 4th that year is giving up pick.

  188. Joeypoppems Says:

I low key hope we go after Latavius Murray so the Dalvin Cook arguments stop early lmao

  189. FutureBucsGM Says:

I’m looking for free agency after the draft. We should fare nicely in this draft. I hope we get a big strong defensive end in this draft. That’s where we are lacking.

  190. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And caught that back and forth between you an waterboy on the other thread. Like I said I didn’t watch him in school but ig mixon comes from some video game style offense like oregon I’ll definitely pass. No RB that didn’t consistently run between the tackles in school should be drafted before the 4th round. They are not ready for pro style defenses. Y’all really can’t tell me s@$! Mixon now. Waterboy was trying to keep quiet but couldn’t any longer. And he ain’t even pro Dalvin.

  191. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    He’ll be Reggie Bush 2.0.

  192. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    K.

Because 90 percent of College offenses dont run spread read option currently.

You know, the same offense the Mike Williams and Deshaun Watson played in.

Or the same kind of offense the Mike Evans and Derek Carr played in?

Yawn. Tired of these weak arguments.

  193. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So basically y’all want a flashier charles sims. Wow.

  194. FutureBucsGM Says:

Watch tape on Mixon he’s a bigger Chuck Sims. Don’t want him. Every big play is him bouncing outside.

  195. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Ted Thompson we talkin bout RBs.

  196. Blake_bucsfan Says:

System’s don’t matter all that much unless you’re a Qb. And even then, you don’t care about the scheme, as long as the Traits are there.

And Joe Mixon checks damn near every box.

  197. Joeypoppems Says:

I been waiting for people to spill the beans on him GM. Its finally coming out. Dalvin lived between the tackles.

  199. Blake_bucsfan Says:

what the heck is going on where people are saying Mixon looks anything like Charles Sims?

Poppems can you back me up here? What am I missing, because they look nothing alike to me.

  200. Blake_bucsfan Says:

LOL Dalvin lived running to the outside.

  201. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

D@$! near every box my @$$. Ion want s@$! on my team that congress from that gimmicky s@$!.

  202. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    You guys are nuts.

  203. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    UPlload a Dalvin highlight then.

  204. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Not even worth my time responding to such mularkey.

  205. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    Been there done that.

  206. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Don’t go searching for Pop. I deal wit three or four of you daily.

  207. FutureBucsGM Says:

You need a combo back that can replace them both (ie the total package.) Otherwise just let Rodgers replace Martin and get OJ Howard who is a damn good blocker. Watch his tape against Texas A&M, dude had Myles Garrett frustrated. OJ would be a valuable asset in the build of Delani Walker. See Jameis at the pro bowl last year. He liked that.

  208. Blake_bucsfan Says:

@Future, You must be new here. Because I’ve been hyping up O.J. for about a month now. But I seriously think you need to watch Chuck’s college and Bucs game tapes, and compare them to Mixon.

Because they are 2 different kind of backs. Only similarity the 2 have is that they have good hands.

  209. Joeypoppems Says:

Lets just be clear. When people make the Charles Sims comparison to Mixon, they are comparing him to the Charles Sims that was coming out of college. NOT the Sims you see today. I still see more 2016 Le’Veon Bell in his running style than 2013 West Virginia Charles Sims.

  210. Blake_bucsfan Says:

My boy Voch Lombardi is a youtube talent evaluater and will be dropping his Joe Mixon tape in the coming weeks. I highly recommend watching it when it comes out.

  211. FutureBucsGM Says:

Honestly I was looking at Mixon as an alternative until I saw his tape. In the offense he was in when they knew he was coming he was often stopped behind the line. But his game reminds me of back in the day when I used to play NCAA that off tackle run. Mixon runs off tackle and sweeps that’s his bread and butter I don’t think I saw him take a single dive for 10+ yards honestly. That was Perine in the trenches. But If you got take that states otherwise I’d love to see it. But that coupled with the trouble he brings, just imagine how are RED program will be affected by such a selection your asking for trouble.

  212. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Can any1 tell me why the fluff DOUG BALDWIN is starting in the pro bowl over MIKE EVANS??!????!!!!

  213. FutureBucsGM Says:

And when I say Chuck Sims I mean University of Houston Charles Sims. Check his highlights they’re still available and compare them to Joe. Only difference I saw initially was Chuck was better between the tackles.

  214. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

So basically he CJ Spiller not cmfortable between the tackles and always bouncing to the outside I’m sorry our offense is predicated on the playaction ie dive up the middle. Trust me we made that mistake before. Won’t do it again. Koetter wll pass on this mixon kid. Every run while school will be dissected trust and believe.

  215. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Thank you GM and thank you waterboy. Now find yet another guy.

  216. Joeypoppems Says:

Can’t wait for the day I can read these articles and not see a RB argument lol

  217. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Our very own John lynch just got the SF GM job!!!!!!!!

  218. Joeypoppems Says:

Wow that is definitely surprising. I guess now a small part of me will be rooting for SF to turn it around lol

  219. Joeypoppems Says:

Hopefully he can also add Hall of Famer to his resume. Getting hired as a GM and getting inducted in the same week? Can’t do much better than that

0:19 Joe Meets a defender in the hole, shimmys to the left, runs thru contact, up in between the tackles, and bowls over 2 guys to get the score.

0:37 Zone stretch right, runs behind his blockers patiently, sticks one foot in the ground and cuts through the wash, shows off impressive power and balance at the end of the run to score on the boundary.

0:45 Decent size hole, but Joe sees it and slashes through the D for a score, between the tackles.

0:48 Perfect example of how impressive Mixon’s vision can be. He sees the edge has been set to his left. So he stops, instantly makes a defender miss behind the line with a nice club step to the right, and then lays another vicious stiff arm on another defender to break the big run. Hardly just a sweep play to the right…

0:58 Impressive display of hands with the beautiful 1 handed catch.

1:24 Joe sees the hole before its actually there, hits it, and shows off the incredible open field play making ability and patient running that make him so special in my eyes.

1:44 Joe sees the Clutter in front of him, knows where the open field is, and makes one cut to get there.

2:01 Granted, Huge hole, but this kid is a playmaker in the open field guys.

2:10 showing off his skills as a returner.

    2:20 Flashing more impressive hands.

2:26 Another example of making penetrating defenders miss. So pretty.

2:32 Beautiful display of patience, power, and burst.

2:43 I’ll let Joe do the talking on this one.

2:54 More good running between the tackles.

3:08 Take ’em for a ride Joe!

    4:01 Sick hurdle

    4:07 The jukes, the moves.

4:22 Good video editing here, perfectly synced skrt adlib lol

4:50 Pfft yeah never seen Chuck make a move this good between the tackles.

4:54 Jump Cutting like Lev Bell

4:59 Showing off the power. Don’t see Chuck do this. Ever.

5:05 Thought Y’all said he couldnt run it up the gut?

5:13 another one up the middle. showing off the burst.

5:20 another one. And got damn! that juke at the end tho!

  221. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Yeah Highlights are highlights, but this is also video evidence of him doing the stuff you said he doesn’t do. The traits are there. Kid is gonna be a baller.

  222. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Jeez Blake, I couldn’t type all that lol

  223. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

    CJ Spiller 2.0

  226. Blake_bucsfan Says:

And poppems all i gotta do is post the link to the archives brother.

  227. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Bro he gone get hit tippin between them tackles and gone have no more heart for the fight I assure you.

  228. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Man you can send all that str8 to oval office for Trump to review it that gimmick offense, that bouncing to the outside running and his off field issue combined. I can see late 6th round.

  229. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Mhm, he’s gonna be “tippin” through the defense just Like Le’veon Bell, while Dalvin is at the training facility rehabbing those dainty shoulders.

  230. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Who you comparing mcfadden to??? Can’t be Dalvin and them 5500 .

  231. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Go watch Darren Mcfaddens college film and tell me he doesn’t look just like Dalvin. Got 80 percent of his college production on sweep plays to the outside too.

  232. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Now that’s funny them dainty shoulders didn’t do anything to hurt this years totals dude. But this belief that cj spiller 2.0 will be as effective as Bell I find somewhat trivial.

  233. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Well if that’s the case you should be comparing him ya boy mixon.

  234. Blake_bucsfan Says:

We’ll see what happens when he gets lit up by a hard hitter like Cam Chancellor or Kwon Alexander. And we’ll see how long that skinny body holds up.

  235. Blake_bucsfan Says:

The ignorance level achieved by nosbos in this thread, is simply commendable.

    Good show good sir. Excellent trolling m8. I r8 8 outta 8.

  236. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

I won’t bore you with the many that play or have played with that same body. But you like that spread O huh???

  237. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Don’t be testy wit me cause these good folks dismantled your precious mixon. Shoulda went to a pro style school if was all that.

  238. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

That spread kinda flashy huh??? Excite ya???

  239. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Except they didnt. And I posted video evidence to contrary. Detailing specific plays that showcased the opposite of what they were saying.

But ok. Attach yourself to their opinion just because it kind of supports your own.

  240. Blake_bucsfan Says:

That way you don’t have to actually put any real thought into the things your saying.

    That is your style.

  241. Joeypoppems Says:

When you can beat 6 over 70 from any RB in college holla at me. If not gone somewhere wit any one of them being better. You don’t just so happen 5500 career combined total yards people.

When you said this Nosbos, I was curious where Donnel Pumphrey’s numbers would rank compared to Dalvin Cook’s

    Dalvin Cook: 5,399 total yards
    Donnel Pumphrey: 7,446 total yards

Now to your credit, Pumphrey only has five 70+ yard TD runs on his resume so hopefully over 2,000 more yards makes up for the 1 TD difference.

You know what the bigger difference is? Cook will be a top 20 pick most likely and Pumphrey will most likely be a day 3 pick.

So again stats don’t tell the whole story of a player.

  242. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’ve got my popcorn! This is gonna be a fun ride! Thanks Nole/Blake!

  243. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Joey, I like Pumphrey, just don’t know how his small size will hold up in the league. I think it was Jeremiah that said he was surprised how not jacked up he was. A lot of the smaller RB are built like a brick wall, short and stocky. I hope his shiftiness can help him avoid the big hits at the next level.

  244. Joeypoppems Says:

Yea I’m not making a case to draft Pumphrey. Just making a case to not put a lot of stock into stats when evaluating players. And I also question how he will hold up in the NFL with his size. I gotta give him props tho. over 1100 total touches in his career and no injuries at 5′ 8″ 170 lbs. That’s impressive.

  245. FutureBucsGM Says:

Ok so only because the Pro Bowl is on and I’m trying to stay awake til midnight I’m going to actually sit up here and breakdown highlights with you. Any other time I would prefer a group discussion via Google Hangout or something. Something we can post for others to see. I hate working for free lol jk I love this stuff.

So based on the highlight you provided on Joe Mixon. I’m going to give you my perspective on the film.

-1st play looks like a draw play vs Houston. Draw plays are where QB takes what looks like a 3 step drop and looks as if he’s going to throw it yet lowers it and hands it off. Its a play Chuck does alot and is good at.

    (41 plays – 9 were delays/draws.)
-2nd play was a fake screen to the right. Draw up the middle.
-draw. (note receivers running actual routes)
    -Right off tackle.
-QB option to MIxon. off tackle run.
-Heading outside, Poor pursuit by NIU. Lead him to cut back which was smart.
-Pass bobbled. Poor throw by Baker else Mixon wouldve scored I think.
    -Screen.
    -delay/draw.
-Left off tackle. Perine lead tackle.(Must’ve been a split backfield)
-Started outside but cut back in @ 1:29
    -Sweep
-The play looked as if it designed for a dive yet ended up being a run to the left off tackle. Note the flag likely for holding.
-Body catch (Baker Mayfield’s fault didn’t lead him at all.)
    -Double option sweep.
-Had major advantage 3 blockers on 1 defender at LOS. backside pursuit is horrible. Sticks to design wouldve loved to see him score on those odds but I understand their wide receivers suck at blocking.
    -delay
    -catch
    -catch
    -draw
    -delay
    -off tackle
    -catch
    -offtackle
    -catch
    -off tackle
    -delay
    -he throws it
    -off tackle
    -nice catch
    -off tackle
    -off tackle
-trick play looks like a fk jet sweep to westbrook.
    -off tackle
    -catch
    -nice spin move
    -catch
    -off tackle
    -off tackle
    -delay draw
    -inside
    -delayed draw
-this play I thought was interesting. It looked like he was heading outside (off tackle design) but the defense forced him inside. 15 yard gain. That play ruined my claim before that he never ran it up the gut for more than 10 yards. wish I didnt see this play lol.
    -off tackle.
-Looks like a 4th and 1 (possibly 3 and 1) 4 WR set single back formation. This is where I question his vision and decisiveness he got the 1st. D-Line had no pen and yet still almost stopped him. This is where a player of his size 220 something should be more like Doug then Chuck yet looks like Chuck. Actually his size makes him look like L.Blount when he was in Tampa (big back that doesnt seem to know he’s a big back) but ofcourse much faster.
-Last couple plays I like instead of off tackles Mixon has success with some iso cutback runs.

Overall where he has success 9/41 delays; 14/41 off tackle.6/41 catches. 29/41. My daughter just slid on the white board I was using to take notes so the numbers are going to be off.

But here’s what I’m getting at with Joe Mixon. Dude is 220 something- moves like a scatback. UPSIDE: Not alot of mileage because he has played alot and he split carries with samaje perine. Downside: He relies on big plays to the outside. I don’t know why maybe its by design or something everything says that he should but it doesnt look to be in his cards.

Remember that 1st play on the highlights. Big run vs Houston. Guess what he finished with from that game. 6 carries for 40 yards. That play was for 32. imagine what the next 5 carries looked like.

I’m not interested in Joe MIxon in the draft. If he comes as an undrafted player fine. But I personally am not interested. Hey Legarette Blount turned out to be good player but guess how he came into the league.

I rest my case on Mixon and suggest that if The Buccaneers have the opportunity to select Dalvin Cook at 19 they should do it. If he’s not there I would go for WMU Corey Davis or Alabama’s OJ Howard. We need to address offense and the glaring need was @ Running Back. Only reason I didnt mention Fournette is because I just don’t see him falling to 19. People see him as a generational talent in the likes of Adrian Peterson. Don’t trade up for Dalvin Cook if none of them fall to us it means some one who shouldnt have fallen fell. (ie Tunsil style.)

  246. MadMax Says:

Fkn time….wish I had it to argue and get into it like some of you sumbtches….but life happens.
