Calling Kenny Stills?
In the effort to upgrade the Bucs’ wide receiver corps from a Pro Bowler, a guy who heads a lounge act in Vero Beach and a medical courier, fans are going through rosters of other teams with a fine tooth comb.
A few Bucs fans believe 24-year-old Kenny Stills, a projected Dolphins free agent, may be the answer to pair with Mike Evans. Patrick Nohe, an editor with Vox Media and a former Clearwater resident, thinks so, too.
Nohe Twittered Friday suggesting Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht would be wise to speak often with Stills’ agent.
@PatrikNohe: If I’m the Bucs and I need to get Jameis Winston a deep threat, I’d go after Kenny Stills. Averaged 17.3 ypc, had 9 TDs for Miami in 2016.
Joe wouldn’t be appalled by a such a move whatsoever, though the Dolphins appear against it. Even if the Bucs landed Stills, who caught 42 balls last season and has missed just one game in his four-year career, that shouldn’t stop Licht from grabbing a wide receiver during the first two days of the draft.
Yes, the Bucs are so lacking at receiver, the team needs to add two who can make an impact during the regular season, and not invisible Robert Herron or @afroblunder, Underwear Football MVP Kenny Bell.

I like Kenny Stills as a #3/slot receiver. Would like to see a big body as the #2 whether in the draft or FA. Apparently, Senior Bowl standout Josh Reynolds says he wants to play for the Bucs and with former A&M receivers Mike Evans and Derel Walker while catching passes from Winston. Would be an interesting Day 2 pick.

Question (real question is later): With the Bucs desperate for quality WR, how many would give up a 5th round pick for KC’s Tyreek Hill? For those who say: “absolutely”, I want to point out 31 NFL teams disagreed. 1st rd talent, obviously. Ran a 4.25 before the draft. But in 2014, Hill was accused of choking and hitting his girlfriend, who was eight weeks pregnant at the time. Hill eventually pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery by strangulation.
Are the Bucs now in a position of leadership and maturity and ready for a deep playoff run to give a 2nd change to such a player and take advantage of something like this in the 2017 draft?
Would you take a chance on a clear 1st rd talent in 2017 with a no-higher than 5th round pick – for a RB? It is a big position of need for the Bucs. The player is Joe Mixon, some say the best RB in this entire draft. But Mixon comes with video, and I do not mean game tape. If you have not seen Mixon’s video, it is as revolting as the Ray Rice video – there was no video of Hill’s heinous crime. 5th round? 6th? What would you do? More importantly, what will Licht decide?

No way Mixon gets past the 3rd round. Tyreek Hill wasn’t a 1st round talent. Top 50 maybe. Imo the only reason he was even drafted was that 4.25 you mentioned. Mixon is a clear 1st round talent so there is no way imo he is available on Day 3

Yea we do. Kenny Stills has that ability. He just isnt a #2 imo. He has had some success but everywhere he has been he has been the 3rd or 4th option.

I hope Mixon goes in the first round along with Fornette and Cook. That means Donta Forman will still be available in RD2 possibly high RD3 . Now there is the back the Buc’s need to compliment Rodgers. 6’0/246 lbs. of raging power out of Texas who is durable. Thunder and Lightening. Not that I fully agree but some analyst have compared him to the A-Train.

Alright I just watched an extended video of the Joe Mixon incident and after doing so I am onboard for drafting him and so is my wife. Some notes about the incident that an article and the unedited video revealed.
They were both hanging out at the local post party, drink food joint. She had a drug possession charge already. She waved Joe Mixon over to the table she was at with her friends. Something was said and Mixon turned to walk away. Mixon was then hit from behind by the girl and she then continued to hit him as he held his first punch. Then after being hit several more times Joe Mixon hit the girl. The girl nor Mixon called 911 and waited for authorities.

Well Joey, we seem to agree that Mixon is a 1st rd talent, but I do not believe he will get drafted before day 3. How does Ray Rice go from Pro Bowl RB to not being able to be a back up on a team disparate for RB help? La’el Collins was not even drafted because of his “potential” legal problems that ended up in being nothing.

I’d love to trade down a few spots in the 1st, pick up a 3rd or 4th, depends how far we move down, regardless after picking up an extra pick, I’d draft Mixon in the 1st, after he destroys the combine, he’s not making it to our 2nd pick, lot of talent in our pressing needs positions like DL, S, WR to draft later. It’s very rare for rookie receivers, tight ends and defensive ends to make an immediate impact, especially if it’s not a top 10 pick, getting an Leveon Bell type talent, Mixon has Fournette size with Cook elusiveness and McCaffery hands, unless he runs in the mid 4.5s, he’s going to get drafted a lot higher than originally thought, we’d might as well take a chance at a franchise runningback to go along with our not so squeaky clean record type franchise QB, looks like that gamble paid off so far

Whatdabucs….Pryor is reportedly getting franchised, the Browns have close to $100 million in cap space, that Pryor to Bucs dream is no longer alive, Miami doesn’t have as much money, they have $37ish, but the Bucs can outbid them for Stills, who is their 3rd option, and considering the upgrade QB Stills would play with here, and the money we could offer him, I’d say we have a good shot, but he’s not a WR2, young option WR2 I like Robert Woods, big splash veteran Alston Jeffery, regardless who we get, we must get a speed receiver like Stills or Marquise Goodwin in FA, or draft John Ross or Dede Westbrook

There are a lot of differences between those 3 situations.
I will start with Ray Rice because that is the easiest. I keep saying this on other posts about guys like Mixon and Doug Martin. The greater the talent, the greater the tolerance. Ray Rice was having an awful year when he got suspended. If he was the pro bowl version of Ray Rice, somebody would have absolutely taken a chance on him. Plus he has the unfortunate instance of really being the 1st case of its kind. Teams didnt know how to react.
Collins is a totally unique situation. His case was involving murder which is waaaay more serious. I know he wasnt a suspect but it is still a situation nobody wanted to be involved with. Add on the fact that it happened right before the draft and the fact that his agent went out publicaly and said Collins wont sign with a team if he wasnt picked before a certain point. A situation like that will most likely never happen again.
As far as Mixon goes, there are some positives in his case. It was almost 3 years ago and he has been out of trouble ever since, big positive. He has been going to therapy on his own ever since, big positive. Coaches and teammates rave about how great he is in the locker room, big positive. And like I said before, the greater th talent the greater the tolerance. If he was just a random guy on the team he would have been kicked off the team and out of school for this. His talent will scare teams away from the 1st round. It will be too hard for a team to pass on him round 2.

The more I think about it, AP on a 1 or 2 year option sounds good. Everyone overlooking Marlon Mack should really look into him. Havd a guy with size and speed watch and learn from one of the best that has ever played the position and let him take over from time to time. AP cannot be the bellcow any longer.
Take your pick at FA WR, whoever Licht feels is a good addition I will be happy with. Plenty to choose from. Draft a WR as well. Best available player at d line and o line, developmental DB after signing Berry from the chiefs.
This offseason is really going to shape this franchise for the next 5-7 years. If we hit a HR we can be a solid competitive team if not we will be just missing the playoffs year in and year out. GO BUCS!

I came up with a trade scenario with GB yesterday on a different site and it wasnt met with positivity lol. I’d like to see what you think. Keep in mind it might not be totally realistic lol.
Lets say Dalvin Cook is available at 19 when we pick. GB offers their 2nd and 4th round picks to swap 1st rounders with us. Then I went on to mention last year it cost us a 3rd and 4th to move back into the 2nd round so if we can do that again this year we could end up with 4 picks in the top 60 and still have 4 day 3 picks for depth/development players.
The point is if we trade back and Mixon is still there in the 1st then it vecomes much more appealing

Blake….how many round 19 picks become franchise altering players, I can’t claim to know the facts about this, maybe Joe can enlighten us at some point, it’s not far fetched that Mixon c is that type of player, he would command 8 man boxes, he can beat LBs and S in the pass game, he’s big and can handle a large workload, he’s fresh out of college unlike Fournette, Cook, and McCaffery, he’s explosive and elusive, other than his immature stupid act as a 18 year old idiot, Mixon would be in discussions as the best back in this draft, he’d probably be discussed as the best prospect since AP, actually if he runs a low 4.4, there is no discussion

I certainly wouldn’t be averse to that. Then again, My opinion of Dalvin Cook is what it is. So I’m not necessarily the most unbiased person on this particular subject lol.
But for one thing, I think that young scouts and the peanut gallery will all be clamoring for him. Honestly think that the most realistic spot for Cook to end up, is going @ pick #4 to Jacksonville.
Another thing, I don’t like to get complicated, with trade scenarios and the like. If happen to decide of Draft night to trade down and collect more picks to make moves with, awesome! I’m all for it, But it’s too unpredictable man.

You make valid points. But although Rice was on his downside, still had some potential. Collins situation was way more easy to ascertain whether he was truly a legit suspect in those murders – personally, I was shocked he went undrafted; why not take a flyer on a 1st rd talent with a 7th rd pick (no matter the threats of holding out).
The problem with Mixon is there is video. Same problem with Rice. People can still go watch Rice’s heinous video, over and over and over. And people will do that with Mixon when he is drafted. When one hears about domestic violence, it does not have the same impact as WATCHING it. And DV is still a huge hot spot with the NFL.
It will be interesting. But regardless, this type of opportunity does not fit with Licht – it will not happen. Now if Mixon were a KICKER, then we could talk, lol

I know the video is there and it is a big deal. A lot of people dont even know about Dede Westbrook’s domestic issue because it is not talked about due to 1) How long ago it was and 2) No video/photographic eveidence for the general public to see. I am factoring in the effect the video has on his draft stock when I talk about when I feel Joe Mixon will be drafted. Without it he is a top 15 pick easy.

That’s a GREAT post. Well thought out with valid points. OK you’ve sold me on Mixon…not over Dalvin if he’s at 19…BUT I like the way you think outside of the box. If Licht followed your deal and picked up two more picks PLUS Mixon I might be forced to agree with you.
My bottom line is that every year the draft is considered loaded at a couple of positions…this year it’s RB and safeties. But that doesn’t mean top talent will automatically be forced to the lower rounds. It could mean that with so much value in RB’s at the top end we might see a run on them in the first round depending of course on individual team needs. It might be we don’t see a run on WR’s until later.
I have ONE obsession…I want SPEED…BURST…Forman is the only player I would consider who isn’t super fast…but he’s big, a consistent runner and a great blocker already…gotta protect the franchise…othewise I do not want another 4.55 WR…we ALREADY have them!

Seriously guys. Who in the draft has better hands than Brate or Humphries.
Who is smarter about getting open. Several are taller than Hump. That’s pretty much it.
If we do not pick up 4.4 speed what’s the point? We can find guys who can catch the football all day long. We had them last year…but VJAX and Shorts both got hurt and we did not need depth.

I think mixon goes in the 3-4 range. A lot of talking heads say numerous teams will not draft him at all. There are too many holes to be filled to draft ANY back in the first 2-3 rounds. De, s, wr, ol all bigger priority imo. And I love mixon, cook, fournette.

Thanks. A couple things about that trade idea tho. Idk if a 2nd and 4th from GB is realistic. Maybe if they over valued Cook and they believe he is the last piece to a championship team. And I also didnt go into that idea with a plan to get Mixon round 1. Didnt put much thought about who to take with thise picks at all actually.
I agree with you about seeing a run on talent if a certain position is deep. Just dont think it will happen with RBs. The NFL is a very pass happy league right now. Running games are comoliments to more teams than focal points. With that said it is very realistic, almost expected that a bunch of DBs will go round 1. Thats a position we should get early before the top tier is gone because it directly impacts QBs.
As far as speed goes. I agree with you that we need it, but speed isnt the only way to get explosive plays. Its the easiest way, just not the only way. Good route running and being able to get seperation from defenders will also lead to explosive plays. Brate and Hump dont excel in either of those categories either. Don’t count out certain receivers if they dont have blazing fast 40 times.

It will be very interesting to see where Mixon is drafted. My money says 4th rd at the earliest due to the video. But I also believe no way we take him which is unfortunate – what a steal he would be!
I proposed taking Richie Incognito when he got in all that trouble. I believed he was very remorseful. This was the spring after our delightful experiment with Collins, etc. terrible Oline. Joe busted my chops for even suggesting it. Now he is in another Pro Bowl

You know, another point on Mixon getting drafted late I had not thought about. This draft is loaded with good RBs, so much so, IMO that several GMs will take Mixon OFF of their boards. Thus, enhancing the opportunity to get him with a 3rd day pick.
Come on Licht, if Mixon is there on day 3 PLEASE use that 4th rd pick on him!!!!

As angered as I am by the idea of signing Desean Jackson – THIS is the exact type of moves the Bucs should be making. Sign the 24 year old kid with speed on the upswing, pair that with drafting another WR stud, re-sign Evans, and the Bucs have set themselves up with a tremendously young and talented stable of WRs to grow along with and build chemistry with Winston.
This is EXACTLY what I think should happen this offseason: Grab Stills if he becomes free and draft another stud to pair with Evans.

I’m not against bringing in Stills, but I really do not see the point in all this speculation. Every year, we see the list of projected free agents, get our interest up, and then their teams end up resigning them or franchising them before we can get them.
So I’ll just wait for the dinner bell to ring.

Kenny Britt would be my choice, Joes. The guy was “stuck” under fisher led offenses, and horrendous qb play and still was top 20 in receiving production. The guy is talented, can stretch the field, and be an awesome compliment to Evans being an added red zone threat dimension.

I would love us to grab Stills to a 2-3 yr contact. He is my top prospect pending his desire and want to play in Tampa and has a good interview with JL and DK. What a huge hole he would feel. I also like the idea of bringing C. Campbell from the A. Cardinals which would allow us to focus on other needs. Hope Sweezy comes on strong this year, which might be wishful thinking, however I believe JL knew about this and realizes what an asset he will be or we would have parted ways, JL is not afraid to get rid of players that don’t fit our mold due to attitude and or play, see ASJ!!!! Also, soon to be D. Martin and if we cannot get A. Verner cheaper, I believe he will no longer be with us as well. Tampa is not somewhere where players dont want to come anymore. Tampa is a destination that players want to come too now, so I’m hoping for the best free Agency we have had with JL this season. I am very excited and then comes the draft, then we roll into the playoffs and we go deep. Amen

I would also be happy with Britt who could be a gem in a good, productive offensive!!!!!! I’m not opposed to getting Woods from Buffalo as well and M. Goodwin, P. Garcson, D. Jackson, B. Marshal for a bridge player or A. Jeffrey. Possibly 2 good WR, one possession receiver like B. Marshal or A.Jeffrey and someone that can take the top off defense. This is why I like Stills, because he is only 24 and has a high ceiling. Britt could be the Gem in Free Agency to come and play in Tampa with DK and JW
