Doug Martin Not Practicing
December 28th, 2016Joe is fresh off the One Buc Palace practice fields as the media window closed about 1:40 p.m. this afternoon.
Jameis Winston’s “franchise running back,” Doug Martin, was not practicing as of this typing, and the buzz around the field was that Martin was taking an “excused” absence.
It sure feels like the Buccaneers have moved on from No. 22, which represents a historic turnaround from just a few weeks ago.

@ JOE
In the words of morning show hosting, KY handed, blocking menace Michael Clayton: “MONEY’S IN THE BANK.”

If its already determined that Doug is inactive a won’t be playing Sunday – why would he practice? His hamstring has not been right since he pulled it in the 1st half of week 2 and then re-injured it weeks later as it was getting close to healed.
Joe has noted how well Martin played in pass protection and the effort to help his team to the best of his ability was obviously there during the 5 game win streak (which btw started as soon as DM came back to the lineup).
But Doug is not the same RB injured or even nicked as he is when he is completely healthy. I think the last 5 years have proven that.
He may no longer technically be “injured” and perhaps thus not eligible for IR – but he’s not 100% healthy either and I think we can all see and agree on that.
Coach wants to win and is doing what he thinks gives the team the best chance to win. Going with a healthy Quizz over a not so healthy Doug Martin as the primary back. Sims and Barber have their roles already set for this game as change of pace back/receiver and short yardage back. And both play special teams which Doug Martin does not.
I don’t see why the decision is so hard to understand or being considered a big deal. Martin is not 100% and has thus been largely ineffective since his injury. Quizz has run better and been more effective getting yards on the ground than Martin so he should be the guy out there right now.
That doesn’t mean that DM is getting released or traded or is in the doghouse or ANY such thing that is being speculated.
Martin is one of the better RBs in the league when he is healthy and the Oline is doing a good job of run blocking. Neither happened much this year.
We owe DM $7M guaranteed next year. He’s not going anywhere. And that’s a good thing because its more likely than not that Doug Martin is going to play a big role in next years Super Bowl run…..

Sims was just put on IR

Because the coach could come out and say something to that effect, but hasn’t and has let the rumor mill fly. There is obviously something going on we haven’t heard about yet

This from Greg Auman: “Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston said he found out about Martin being inactive too late to talk to him much before Saturday’s game, and that he can only focus on what he can control and be there for Martin as a teammate and friend.” I wonder if this impacted the offensive game plan?

my dear doctor
Doug took all practice starter snaps all week
he was and part of the gameplan for our must win game
then 30 minutes before kickoff he was deactivated with shorts on
the answer is yes. Koetter is a clown

Pick you sure seem convinced that Martin is hurt. Don’t you think Koetter would say something like “Martin isn’t 100% right now so we are going to shut him down so that we have him at full strength next season.” Leaving at “coaches decision to deactivate” really looks much worse for Martin so I am sure we would have heard from our candid coach is it was a health issue.
Kobe, what is Martin has just gone off the rails at this point??? Is Koetter an “ass clown” for not divulging something serious that may be going on with Doug??? Once again you make yourself look like a clown when you make these bold statements while being clueless about what the situation is and everything that may be involved.

TDTB – its sounding like there is something else going on based on most recent reports.
But I would maintain that whatever Doug’s personal issue is – that he has not been anywhere near 100% healthy and capable since injuring his hamstring early in the 2nd game of the season.

@Kobe Faker: given recent developments, Coach Koetter should not be blamed here. As Doug Martin himself stated, he let us all down.
