Prime Time Kwon

Joe has to give it up to the Bucs’ 22-year-old stud who came to ball out with his head fully in the game Sunday night: Jameis Winston Kwon Alexander.
What a beast.
Kwon led the Bucs with 11 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles, and he delivered the fourth-quarter, crunch-time hit on future Hall of Famer Jason Witten that forced the only Bucs turnover of the game. Kwon was a true man last night.
Joe believes Kwon clearly has emerged as the best linebacker on the roster, and among the top dogs in the NFL.
Quite a find by Jason Licht and friends in the fourth round of last year’s draft.
Kwon has been called “The Jameis of the Defense” by coaches. If he keeps this up, then that won’t due him justice. He is that good.
After this groin-kick of a loss in Dallas, the thought of Kwon’s play will keep Joe in tolerable spirits through the wee hours.

JW was not ready for prime time. The defense as a whole wasn’t either.

Come on guys! We just have to go 1-0 two more times I believe! Washington will lose to the Giants and if Detroit loses next week The Bucs are practically a lock. I believe we can beat the Saints and Panthers but we’re deff gonna need Dotson back, Gosder might as well have been invisible in the fourth quarter. Moving on, Siege The Day!

Love Alexander. One of the few Bucs jerseys I’d buy.
So this Lavonte guy… anyone see how he got caught down low on the long Elliott run… I’m just not sure what to say about him anymore that hasn’t already been said. Is it a down year?

LvD is fine and better than half the league, his plays later in the season is much better , prob getting use to a new def takes time

Sometimes wonder if we all watch the same games. Kwon had 21 tackles but far too many of them were well down the field. That’s never a good thing. Cowboys OLine dominated our DLine & LBs for much of the game … Prescott’s short passing game was outstanding, but he had all day to complete most of those passes. Plus we were leaving guys wide open on the flats especially (personally think we sold out trying to contain Dak & Zeke in the run-game and it cost us).

Hey big hog. I never get your math. Tampa Bay won 6 games last year. They already improved from last years, if th y win one more they have more wins than Lovie over two years. You post that same line every week, and somebody always points out what I just did, but you never explain your comment.

Looked as if the Bucs did not want Zeke to beat them in the passing game, so as we followed Zeke while they were passing, left others open. Lack of pressure kept the db’s a step slow

Sunny, I don’t care about half the league. Half the league will be out of the league next year or playing for someone else.
We’re paying him (aka are invested in him) to be a Pro Bowler. Give me 1 splash play he made last night.

Lavonte had a sack and 9 total tackles. He was also the guy who wrapped up witten and held him up so kwon could fly in and knock out the ball. So i would give lavonte at least 2 splash plays, just off the top of my head.

I’ve noticed lavonte taking on a lot more blocks to free up others to make plays. He is sacrificing himself so another can go make plays. I saw lavonte blow up the fullback in the hole so tandy could make the tackle.
In years past lavonte would try to avoid the block so he personally could make the play. That mentality has changed. I dont know if it is coaching or if he is just not playing as explosive as he was. But it is a clear change in how he plays. I assume it is coaching/scheme strategy. Teams are running at Lavonte which means blockers are coming right at him and is a focus of their blocking scheme. Therefore he takes on the block at the LOS. Forcing the RB to find a new hole, and so others can easily flow behind him to the ball. That is why kwon is able to rake in the tackles. LVD is playing unselfish team football. We shouldnt condemn him for doin that.

I thought Kwon and Lavonte were exposed in the first half last night. Egregious over-pursuit on multiple occasions. Kwon’s a very valuable player and will be a fixture on this defense for a long time, but his aggressiveness can be a hindrance at times. Like I said, he’s a net-positive player overall because of his uncanny ability to create splash plays, but I hope that as he ages he can tighten up the screws a bit.
