“We Play The Game For Games Like This”

December 14th, 2016

jameis-1212aJameis understands.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was asked today at One Buc Palace about the big-game nature of Sunday night’s game at the 11-2 Cowboys.

Thankfully, Jameis didn’t spout a bunch of nonsense that it’s just another game.

“We play the game for games like this, the ability to control our own destiny, the ability to be on the stage of Sunday Night Football. “That’s one of the reasons why people enjoy this game.”

Jameis said Sunday is all about showing media that the Bucs are for real but the team doesn’t need that reinforcement.

“It’s huge opportunity to show to y’all, but to us, we’re very confident in who we are as a team, as a family,” Jameis said. “It just looks like another opportunity for us to show y’all what we’re all about. We have it. We got to take advantage of it. …  We already feel like we’re a big-time team.”

Joe loved Jameis’ answers. And the sentiment was nothing new. Remember how Jameis recently lectured his teammates about being tired.

Off topic, but Michael Floyd just got cut and Jason Licht is tight with Cardinals GM Steve Keim. What do you think Joe?

  2. Gilhealy Says:

“If we gonna do it, do it big then”…My guy knows all about big games.

  3. Rob in Land O' Lakes Says:

I am not sure Floyd is a long term fix, but drunk off of his backside, he would still be the best number 2 option the box have.

  4. Zwak Says:

Teams don’t cut good players this late in the year!

  5. Biggun Says:

Let’s go get Floyd Jameis needs a new Target now!!!

  6. Doctor Stroud Says:

@Rob: I saw that, too, and I would be in favor only because we are in need of a #2 WR. Still I’m not sure how much he could contribute this year. This would be yet another new (or returning) player to integrate into the offense and has no chemistry with our QB. And, he probably needs to get his mind right first (and not from proprioception), not to mention that he might have to serve a suspension. This depends on how quickly Goodell acts on it. Licht should look into it!

Zwak said: “Teams don’t cut good players this late in the year!”

He was arrested for DUI two nights ago so that likely is the reason. Licht was in Arizona when he was drafted. Licht would have as good Intel on him as anyone.

  8. Rob in Land O' Lakes Says:

Doctor Stroud: You may be right on all counts, but if this was an aberration, he is a serious talent upgrade. Additionally, terrific David Boston reference, Doc! (Proprioception)

  9. flmike Says:

Once again Bucs fans see a familiar name and start clamoring for it. First go look at his numbers for the season, they aren’t good, second, if he was having a good year do you really think Az would release him regardless if they are in the hunt or not, 3rd if he was any good they would hold on to him and try and resign him or would have extended him already, he’s just another team’s refuse, please stop it, y’all embarrass yourselves whenever you do this.

  10. Rob in Land O' Lakes Says:

Mike, you’re right I apologize. Freddy Martino is the MAN and the POSSIBILITY of our general manager bringing in a familiar name whom he MAY be able to turn around, is sheer lunacy. My bad. Calling up Dontae Dye is a far better option.

  11. flmike Says:

If he was any good don’t you think Az would have extended him before Dec 14. They know Fitz is on his last legs and they have 2 #3 WRs behind Jon Brown, they had hope for Floyd but he just hasn’t panned out, he’s 27 and should just be reaching his prime but the truth is he’s regressed over the last 3 seasons.

  12. dmatt Says:

    flmike,
I agree with u 100%. If he MFloyd anything to the team especially as they try to make it to the big dance, they would have retained him. We do not need another
ASJ or Jeremy Stevens who allows Gin n Juice or Jack n Daniel to cause them to not work out or stay in football shape or cause their performance to decline.

When teams are striving to make the palyoff or superbowl during this time of year, but one’s mind is fixated on drinking n driving, then they probably perceive this to being second to none.

I’ll do better with Pink Floyd (Money)

  13. GhostofTedford Says:

I rather enjoyed being off the radar, we can no longer sneak up on any team as we could before.

  14. unbelievable Says:

Cardinals have zero chance of making the playoffs this year. Just sayin.

Wouldn’t hurt to bring him in for a workout

  15. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Change of scenery worked well for VJax after DUI issues. The way Palmer and thier O Line has played, I’m not surprised his numbers are down. I’d take a look, but I don’t know if I’d sign him. It would take WR out of play early in the draft and let us draft some more D Line help. Can’t have enough pass rushers and Ayers isn’t young anymore.

  16. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

He can contribute Sunday. Just make sure he knows the snap count and tell him go deep on every pass play.

  17. bigt1639 Says:

What ever happened to Roddy White he knows the offense could just plug right in

  18. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Joe I love that pic of Fameis! Looks like he’s about to get all buc wild on a reporter for asking a stupid question.

  19. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Looks like he’s saying “SAY SUMTN ELSE FOOL!”

  20. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    Michael Floyd sucks

Michael Floyd makes 2015 Mike Evans look like Cris Carter

He’s basically Alvin Harper but with an ankle bracelet instead of a Super Bowl ring

  21. orlbucfan Says:

We don’t need another head case. Floyd would also have to learn DK’s offense. We go with who we have: DM22, Sims, ME13, Brate, Shep, the Lounge Lizard, and Hump (if his head is cleared). Bucs already have the Philly head case who blew a return (at least he didn’t fumble the ball). Anyone know the injury scoop yet?

  22. SB with Jameis Says:

“Confidence is a stain they can’t wipe off”

  23. gotbbucs Says:

Michael Floyd is the type of player the Patriots sign and win Super Bowls with and the type of player moronic Bucs fans turn a nose up to because he’s too naughty to be on their team.

Vincent Jackson has what, two DUI’s? I didn’t see anybody crying about that when he was having the best seasons of his career in a Bucs jersey.

We would be lucky as hell to get Floyd to sign in Tampa. He has a garbage QB throwing to him right now and a Head Coach that is trying to blame everybody but himself for their poor season.

  24. Pete Mitchell Says:

Jameis needs to have a big game. Early in his career at FSU he was able to come up big time in big games. However, the fact of the matter is that he ended his career at FSU with a dud, began his career with the bucs with a stinker, and fizzled out at home against the saints last year when it counted. Franchise QBs come throughout in big games. This is a big game. 180 yards and no touchdowns ain’t gonna cut it.

  25. Shane Says:

Sure hope Koetter calls a better game than that crap shoot game he called the other day. Put this offense in position to succeed.

  26. ARGH_M8E Says:

Ohhhhhhhhhhh please DESTROY these Cowboys!!!!! 30-6… My feet wouldn’t touch the ground for a week! Haha, I’m getting silly just thinking about it!

  27. Buc1987 Says:

Pete Mitchell…have you always been an ass?

  28. BullNole Says:

Pete Mitchell, stop hating! Jameis is a gamer that rises to the occasion way more often than he doesn’t. What makes you an expert on the makings of a franchise quarterback? 180 yards and no touchdowns did cut it, though…we won the damn game. Stop with the contrarian bs and enjoy the ride

  29. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

A win is a win…all one team needs to do is make at least 1 point more than the opponent.
