“It’s All How We Practicing”

Since Week 5, the Bucs have more turnovers than any team in the NFL.

It’s so shocking, even Bucs employees are looking for answers.

From where did the magic tonic come?

Buccaneers Radio Network host and icon T.J. Rives put that question to Noah Spence last night.

In a moment that would warm Derrick Brooks’ heart, Spence explained the power and success lies in the day-to-day grind.

“It’s all how we practicing,” Spence said. “We’ve turned up the level of practice. And Coach Smith is making us be ball hawks in practice. Like, ‘Don’t let anybody run through our defense without snagging at the ball.’ Or like, ‘Even if they catch the ball, snag at it.’ … Try to get the ball out all the time.”

What a turnaround by the Bucs defense. Big turnover production, plus only seven total points allowed in the fourth quarter during this four-game winning streak.

Drew Brees will give the Bucs defense opportunities. They’ll probably have to cash in at least once to win Sunday.

Somewhere Lovie’s pants are getting a little tighter after reading this article haha

  2. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

If Mike Smith turns our defense into a unit that not only helps catapult us into the playoffs but actually help win a game(s), why wouldn’t the Glazers look at Mike Smith and proclaim, “You’re our new Monte”, and lock him up with high end assistant HC money to make it worth his while to stay put?

  3. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

And I was foolish enough before the season to proclaim we would lead the league in sacks and turnovers. Silly of me.

  4. astrobuc Says:

@ Buc4lyfe, If Mike Smith wants to be a head coach again no amount of money will make him stay. I hope he does, but he is going to be well sought after if we make the playoffs.

  5. jb Says:

The Glazers are gonna have to dig mighty deep into their pockets in order to keep Smitty if he can keep this going all the way onto the playoffs.
$4million a year to D.C. an up & coming defense with Jameis as the quarterback your D keeps giving the ball to………or head coach of the Jaguars…..
Doesn’t seem like all that hard of a choice, if the Glazers are willing to do it. We win a playoff game or two….I don’t see how they wouldn’t.

I’ve been privately thinking the same thing jb.

  7. Patrick Says:

    9-3 in 2008 under Chucky

    7-5 in 2012 under Schiano

We know how those seasons ended. Can’t take the last 4 games for granted.

  8. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Buc4Lyfe79 has a great point. I would say being a DC and Asst HC with a significant paycheck with a solid chance of going to playoffs and super bowl each year as opposed to being HC to the Browns, Jags or some other struggling team has its merits.

  9. webster Says:

    @ patrick

The bucs were never 7-5 under schiano. They were 6-4 and finished 7-9. Ironically the 7th win was the last game of the season. But i do understand what you were trying to say.

  10. Trubucfan22 Says:

I wonder which buccaneer has the most takeaways this season?

It certainly couldn’t be a guy that Joe has been ball busting all season for his lack of production could it?

  11. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Just have to say how impressive Spence has been lately

All offseason I was warning people that we shouldn’t be counting on him to pressure the QB. That we needed to give him time, that JJ Watt only had 5 sacks his rookie year, that Khalil Mack only had 3.

This kid has surpassed their production with 4 games to go. It’s impressive and bodes very well for the future of this team and defense

  12. Pickgrin Says:

I believe that Monken already holds the title of “Assistant Head Coach”.
Seems unlikely they would strip him of that title to give to Mike Smith….

  13. Pickgrin Says:

Couldn’t figure out what word triggered the dreaded “awaiting moderation”

Then I figured it out. Guess Joe doesn’t want anyone talking about Jameis sneaking off to Mons – or something – SMH

    @ nole on sat
you are silly cause we dont lead the league in either one of those categories.

  16. Mackey Says:

Weren’t we 6-6 under Lovie? And finished 6-10 last season ?
This is a much improved team. I think we will be at 10-6 at the
    end of the regular season.
