“I Just Don’t Think We Played A Great Game”
December 7th, 2016Bucs fans are still giddy over the Bucs traveling all across the country and punking the Chargers in their own crib, moving into a first-place tie with the Dixie Chicks.
For Bucs fans with playoff dreams dancing in their heads like Rachel Watson in a naughty Santa outfit, Dirk Koetter has words that may have Bucs fans pumping the brakes.
While Koetter offered the rallying cry of the year when he hollered in the victorious Bucs locker room Sunday, “Speak softly and carry a BIG MOTHERF@#$&ING STICK!” Koetter came away disheartened after watching game film, so he told dangerous Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV Channel 8.
“After looking at the tape, I look back and I kind of [shakes his head], I just don’t think we played a great game,” Koetter said. “I’m happy as heck that we won. And I think that says a lot that we can come home from a west coast trip with a win, especially an important game. But I think it was a game where we didn’t play our best. I think we played better in Kansas City. I think we played better overall against Seattle. I think we played better overall against Chicago. And I know for a fact we will have to play better Sunday when we play New Orleans.”
While you can see the facial expression of Koetter in the video below, Joe actually takes a lot of positive out of this.
Good teams find a way to win. If Koetter says they didn’t play that well but still beat a quality opponent some 2,500 miles from home, that says a lot to Joe. Good teams come away with wins when they are not at their best. Bucs teams in the not so distant past would have rolled over for the Chargers, just happy to be able to take a quick trip to San Diego. Winning a football game there? Eh, whatever.
This team found a way to win when previous Bucs teams, including this year’s early version, so often found ways to lose. It’s a team Joe believes is growing up. It’s also a sign of the influence of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

You gotta love Koetter. He seems like he knows how to keep the team focused in the right direction. Love that he is talking like the NO game is like a playoff game. If we can beat NO and the Giants lose to Dallas this week, not only does it improve our tie breaker scenarios with Atl it also ties us with the Giants for the 1st wild card seed. This week is HUGE!

If you are a fan and say this you are a “hater” if you are the HC you are a good motivator.

If you think you CANNOT get better in any aspect of life, you’ve stopped living. Anyone who thinks that this team can’t get better is delusional. I agree with coach. We found a way to win and that’s good. If we want to be a great football team we have to play better.
One game at a time!

A win will also put us on our way to a possible winning season. But the real question is, will Jameis win another championship in his 2nd year in the NFL like he did in college?
Also, I think Josh Huff will come in with the mindset to replace VJack’s available position for good in December.
Go Bucs!!!

^not replace …but takeover

You stop learning; you die. Life’s first commandment. DK is very familiar with the SAints and Sean Payton having worked in Jax and Hotlanta. Brees is the same QB the Chargers let go after they drafted Rivers. The Bucs have Buc Luck. They are also playing at home. The game will be a dog fight. Koetter knows it. He has already built the best offense this team has ever had! Next season will be an ABsolutely FABulous scary one watching his offense in its 3rd year. If he can keep the players thinking just he’s doing, Bucs will win it. One game at a time!! GO MIGHTY BUCS–HOODOO THE AINTS!!

This is a direct call back to the Arizona game, they came out of week one thinking they could just show up in Az and win, this was the “don’t get to full of yourselves” reminder.

You gotta love Koetter’s candor. And I must admit ( and many of you should too )…once the Chargers waltzed down the field and scored…and then picked off Jamies…it felt very bleak given the last 8-9 year run of Buc football. Keep making us believers, Bucs. Drew Brees has been a pain in the arse for years. Time to exercise another demon!

Put out another confidence poll on Dirk!!!

Koetter has high expectations, which is great. I think he has the “go for the jugular” mentality. He wants to win decisively. I can’t wait until this team is good enough to start beating up on some teams.

I AGREE WITH COACH K 100%.

I agree with Coach and I’m just glad that there is that recognition, and knowing that the team came play at a much higher level.
GO BUCS

Greatest news of the day! Coach don’t let himself get blinded by a shiny ‘W’ but pushing the players to get better! We are blessed to have him in the driver seat of this team.

Americas Quarterback doesn’t seem to be Americas Quarterback, huh Joe!
