Is Dirk Koetter’s offense San Diego-ready? Or New Orleans-ready? Or Dallas-ready? The Bucs will have to play different football to beat those teams.
Dirk Koetter isn’t impressed by his offense.
His assessment of the offense against Seattle, via the Buccaneers Radio Network this week? “Pretty average, really,” Koetter said.
After the Chiefs win, Koetter raved about the heroics and stunning game of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, but the Bucs failed miserably in the red zone for most of the game. The offense wasn’t firing on all cylinders and Jameis carried them through just enough to overcome a weak rushing attack.
The wins were against the Chiefs and Seahawks were massive, but the Bucs will have to play different football to win their next three. K.C. and Seattle are below average when it comes to scoring.
San Diego, Sunday’s opponent, is elite at score points, 28.5 per game, fourth best in the NFL. The Saints rank No. 2. (30.4 points). Dallas after that? They rank third in the NFL: 28.7 points per game.
The Bucs have to tune-up their offense in a hurry to beat those teams. There’s no getting around it.
Joe’s looking to Doug Martin to return to form. Oh please, Doug. Please. Joe also wants Cecil Shorts to start playing regularly like he did in his breakout game in Kansas City. After all, Shorts told Joe that was the real Cecil Shorts. And Adam Humphries should find room again when facing the lesser defenses of San Diego and New Orleans.
“Pretty average” won’t get the Bucs were they want to be.

It will help that those teams do not have the defense that Seattle has!!! Seattle is #1 defense in the league in points per game!!!

I still say Shep is the best #2 option at receiver. He’s been playing the best ball outside of Mike and Cam. Cecil is just not connecting with JW, too many missed opportunities.

the way jacquizz rodgers was running in place of Doug, i am betting he will get chances to pick up the running game. doug looks dynamic as heck with those jump cuts and he does his best to power through tacklers, but his longtime weaknesses in the vision dept seem to be back again. rodgers is not nearly as elusive but he seems far better at spotting the running lane. hope the contrest helps both players get a little more ypc. honestly i wouldn’t be averse to the bucs trying to get 40+ carries between those 2 guys, assuming the defense keeps the score close

I think a lot of why our offense has been average is that we have been playing against really good defenses. I love that Koetter is challenging the offense like that, but I expect them to put up more points against the likes of San Diego and New Orleans.

Glad we have a coach that’s willing to look at the teams shortcomings and fix them instead of saying something cliche like “we’ll fix it” ! Hopefully Jacquizz can fuel the run game and in turn the Offense

I’m just being patient until we add some more weapons in the offseason to grow with Jameis.
Specifically a WR in free agency AND the top of the draft as well as possibly a TE somewhere in the draft as well.
I would say to add an O-lineman as well, but maybe, hopefully, Sweezy will get healthy and be ready to play next year. I mean, we’re already paying him.

Quiz’s return will put the doubters to rest about this offense and the scoring. We need to ease Quiz back in this week against San Diego instead of forcing like we were before plus Martin is starting to heat and i think he is in for a couple big games in a row while Rodgers eases his way back. We win out and continue to handle our business on a week to week basis we may wind up as the 1 seed so yes lets run the ball more and keep opposing offenses off the field and help a great defense become great again. I definitly think we win out to because we have the stronger run game in the league to go along with a pro bowl qb and wr duo and many young and hungry up and comers who are ready to shine like Shep,Hump, and Brate but we are gonna see something special in the up and coming weeks brew from the running game

The new Bucs offense is a far cry from the days of old.
“Run, run, pass & punt”
Every possession I think they have the chance to score. Granted they only scored twice last week. But they left 10 points the TD that was called back on the penalty and the missed FG. And 24 points against Seattle is a drubbing.
This is a team on the edge, they are on the point where they either crawl out of the pit of losers and become contenders or they slip and fall back in.
5 games left.
5 game sweep – I would faint
4-1 – I would be in shock
3-2 – Possible, but not likely
2-3 – My guess – best odds
1-4 – Disappointing
0-5 – They fell back in that pit of despair & losing
I would love for them to win 3 or more of their final 5 games, if they did that to finish this season. It will be a statement that they are totally out of the pits.
For a 1st year head coach – he doubled the wins from last year. Not bad, not bad at all.

i agree offense has to get going but keep in mind seattle’s offense is no slouch and was on a roll before coming to tampa; putting up 31 points against Buffalo & New England and 26 against Philly

Joe you make me feel like Gruden. In 2002 we face Michel Vick and the hot Atlanta Falcons. Everybody talked about Vick. Nobody respected our defense specially the media!

I think you hit the nail on the head and didn’t even realize it Joe. While KC and Seattle both had lesser Offensive Units than the Saints and Chargers, both of their Defenses are not good, where KC and Seattle are Elite. Jameis Has won shootouts vs Brees before, and Nola’s defense is about as bad as it gets. I’ll think we’ll see our offense Carry us down the stretch.

for the most part, we haven’t exploited poor pass defenses as well as other teams have. a big part of that is the lack of depth behind mike evans. in some ways it seems like we haven’t missed the likes of ASJ or VJax all that much, but i bet there are a ton of things that Koetter planned to do to suspect pass defenses based on his preseason personnel that is now off the table. Shorts, Sheperd, et al are doing an admirable job chipping in with plays here and there, but that’s different than having one or two more consistently dangerous guys on the field

They have to split the carries. Martin looks right now like he did in the beginning of his rookie season. He’s not seeing the field very well.
Koetter proclaimed last week that he wanted to get Barber involved in the running game and then he proceeded to give Martin 20 carries again.
I don’t care what theyre paying Martin and how badly they want him to succeed, he’s not getting it done right now. Change things up.

we have to start cashing in the red zone opportunities for td’s….
I like our chances…
dallas may end up 12-4 with 3 straight loses to 3 of the hottest teams in the nfl in the giants, bucs and lions….they will have the #1 or #2 seed so im not worried about them, we’re in…..im starting to pay close attention to the redskins and giants…2 teams above us in the playoff hunt…
giants have it the toughest…..they play pittsburg, dallas, lions, philly and redskins…with that said they do have a chance with eli and no one wants to see him in the playoffs….
the redskins- arz, philly, Carolina, Chicago, giants….the think they implode and lose 4 of their last 5 beating only the bears….
bucs-chargers, saints, dallas, saints, Carolina- I like us to turn this 3 game winning streak into a 8game run….we’re peaking at the right time….we’ll how it shakes out….GO BUCS!!!!
