“You Just Can’t Listen To Idiots”
November 23rd, 2016Chris Conte has a love/hate relationship with Twitter.
The Bucs safety enjoys Twitter for the fact it has become the daily newspaper of the 21st Century. Get up in the morning, grab your cup of java, fire up the laptop and if you follow the right people and the right feeds, Twitter gives one all the news that’s fit to type for that day, along with instantaneous breaking news updates. In many respects, there is no need to go elsewhere for news.
Then, however, there is the dark side of Twitter. It can be Trollville. And Conte, not exactly a fan favorite whether it is here in Tampa Bay or in his past life in Chicago, deals with the swarm of trolls who descend on his timeline.
Conte admitted Wednesday the negative barbs used to get under his skin and drive him mental. Now, Conte all but says, bring it on, haters.
Why? Conte said he has learned to use the hate from the trolls as motivation.
“You just can’t listen to idiots,” Conte said. “There are a lot of idiots out there. You just can’t listen to them. It seems that’s all that Twitter is. It’s just a bunch of idiots. You can listen to it or you can not.
“You have to take it for what it is. It is people who don’t know what they are talking about, saying things they don’t know what they are saying. You take it for what it is. If people feel that way, they feel that that way. You can use it for motivation or you can ignore it.
“At times, I let it affect me in the past. I have made the choice to let it affect me in a positive way. You can do that or ignore it.”
So now when Conte goes on Twitter to check sports news from BSPN or find out what else is happening in the world, he uses the trolling to fire himself up to improve.
So in a manner of words, Conte takes the Twitter hate and fuel to perfect his craft.
Either way, it’s a win-win for Conte the way he has been playing of late.

Twitter is primarily idiots. You can use Twitter to get news as Joe suggests or you can ignore Twitter altogether as cmurda suggests. Nothing good ever came from twitter but man, many bad things have resulted from it. With that said, count me among the minority of Bucs fans who thinks Conte is underappreciated and a much better safety than he is given credit for.

Patently incorrect.

He comes off as very thin-skinned, which is fine because I have no idea how I’d react if I were in his position. But the whole “everyone who criticizes my *at times* awful play is an idiot” stance seems like a bit of a defense mechanism…

yeah, yeah yeah. I stand firm. I’ll give Twitter breaking news during Free Agency. That’s as far as I go with it.

I have never Tweeted, instagrammed, myspaced etc. Guess I’m just too oldschool

If we didn’t have twitter, where would the troll-elect go to express his whiny b!tch racist misognist nonsense?

If Conte had a INT for every missed tackle or blown coverage he was responsible for he’d lead the league in INT’a
Dude is pretty bad overall

TBT reporters like Greg Aumen and Tom Bassinger, Pewter Report, Bucs Nation and of course Joe are great on Twitter. Never underestimate the good that can come from social networking. The in-game tweeting on twitter is fantastic for the guys I listed. I jump back and forth between watching and reading the reactions to people I respect on Bucs reporting.
Nuts to any of you who think Twitter is nothing but idiots.

One other thing – Twitter is a treasure house of up to date information on the Bucs. Much more than what ends up on these blogs. Oh and Jenna Lane from BSPN is awesome. And hot of course.

@cmurda- Yeah, imagine if we didn’t have Conte! It’d be way worse.
So many people want to single him out. Last I checked there are 10 other defenders on the field. If Conte doesn’t make the stop, who does? I’m not enamored with him, but he is a serviceable safety.
I don’t tweet either SB! I only recently switched from a flip-phone!!!

Salish,
Better go help with the recount in the election you have one week left to change the results

If it is firing him up let’s all jump on Saturday night and tell him he sucks
November 23rd, 2016 at 4:22 pm
correction: the internet – not just twitter – is full of nothing but idiots

He can ignore what ever he wants… Doesn’t change the fact he is a very avg to below avg player. Glad he’s made a couple plays the last 2 games and we will need him to be in the right place at the right time more then once on Sunday if we want to beat Seattle.

Then use that fire from all the haters and make your teammates, coaches, owner, and fans see that translate into splash plays. Fire the cannon!!! Passed defensed, lower completion percentage, and qbr under 50, and you’re making them eat their words.

He needs some ‘tacklin fuel’
