Third Down Very Efficient

The mark of a team that is clicking on offense is how it does on third downs.

Yesterday, the Bucs were very good on third downs, having converted 11 of 16 situations. But America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, he was uncanny on third down, per BSPN.

The Bucs QB was fine on first and second down Sunday, averaging 7.9 yards per attempt. But Winston was nearly flawless on third down, going 12-of-14 for 133 yards and a touchdown.

That is serious production against what had been a very stingy pass defense. And no one is frightened by the Bucs receivers other than Mike Evans, who should be an All-Pro after the season.

Damn, what a fine morning it is, huh Bucs fans?

3rd down conversions keep the other team’s D on the field. We played extremely well in those situations. Good job Bucs!

Winston’s best game as a Pro. With JW at the helm we are the envy of about 25 other NFL teams.

    He is the chosen one

Get those high throws under control and the sky is the limit

  6. Bucsfanman Says:

@Tampa Tony- Yea, I thought we left some plays on the field with the high throws too. That said, we still managed to pull off the victory.

    @Tampa Tony
Most of this high throws come when he doesn’t have a clean pocket to plant his front foot and step into his throws.

We needed to beat a good team. We just did that and did it on the road!!!

We are turning the corner. If we can beat the Chiefs in KC any game on our schedule is winnable….or lose-able…it’s the No Freaking Logic league.

I think a major factor in our improved play is our improved talent…that is to say that some of our injured players are coming back now. This will probably determine how well we do the rest of the year….our health. Right now we’re in our best shape since training camp…let’s hope our luck holds.

Watching the game yesterday on TV, I just kept thinking that our run game was putting excessive pressure on Jameis time after time. Constant passing situations on 3rd down throughout the whole game … Chiefs knew it, fans knew it, everyone knew it. Thanks to Jameis stepping up BIG on 3rd down, Bucs controlled the ball for 35 mins, despite a run game that I didn’t think was all that imaginative or effective (34 runs for 116 yds almost all of which were straight up the middle). And yet, time after time Jameis converted (12-of-14) against an excellent Chiefs’ defense. What was even more beautiful is that he spread the ball around and used about every weapon in his arsenal. Last 6 games should be very interesting.

Famous’s high 3rd down completed percentage kept the KC defense on the field. Right before the half and during the 3rd quarter, the radio krewe was commenting on how “winded” and “hands on hips” they were. That won the game for us big-time as KC’s d is their strong point. DK called an almost perfectly balanced game (run/pass). Seaturkeys better be ready. ‘Bout time we won our second HOME game at RJS. Go Mighty Bucs!!

it’s the ideal dirk koetter gameplan. control possession through sustained drives, and set up a few shot plays along the way. obviously everyone would have wanted more TDs instead of FGs, but between the 20s it was well executed football

  14. Dave Says:

Get rid of 5 overthrows an he is over 400 yards with another TD probably.
Kudos to play calling and JW. Spreading the wealth. Can’t wait to see what they do with a speedster opposite ME and shepherd and Humph in the slots.

Wow, praise from BSPN, how nice!
