Jameis Thanks Chiefs Fans
November 20th, 2016If Florida State football is known for anything, it is that haunting Warchant cry their fans do at football games.
When the Seminoles start to prowl on defense, or when they score on offense, that cry sends chills up one’s spine, or makes opponents want to puke, as it envelopes the stadium.
Nothing seems to get Florida State fans’ rocks off more than when professional teams copy that Warchant howl. First it was the Atlanta Braves and later the Kansas City Chiefs.
Today, when the Bucs had the ball on third down, that notorious raucous Chiefs crowd stood as one and started the chant.
America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, knows that cry all too well. For it was Jameis who led the Seminoles to a national championship hearing that chant ringing in his ears. To Jameis, that cry means victory.
So when Chiefs fans started revving up the Warchant, Jameis felt as if he was back at Doak Campbell Stadium. The cry was a prompt for Jameis to put on a show.
But for Jameis, he didn’t call it the Warchant. He referred to it as “Nole Chant.”
“Man, the crowd noise was amazing!” Jameis said. “Every third down they did the Nole Chant. And I was so pumped up. It really made me feel at home. So I loved playing here. Every chance I get to do the Nole Chant — I was even doing it with the fans at the beginning of the game.”
Later, Joe overheard Jameis in a private conversation with Bucs front office officials discussing the Warchant and Joe mentioned to Jameis that he just wished he could print what he said but cannot because it was private. But Jameis gave Joe the OK to run an excerpt of the conversation (and Joe has witnesses that heard Jameis give Joe permission). Jameis said he told his teammates early in the game:
“On third down if [Chiefs fans] do what they did in Tallahassee, on third downs we will be [solid].”
The Bucs converted 11 of 16 third downs Sunday.

Bring the War chant to Raymond!

Joe, great article and great first hand quote.
Most complete Bucs game I’ve seen in a while. Impressive win.
November 20th, 2016 at 5:22 pm
Man for being “the most intelligent fans in football” that was a pretty obvious way to pump up the opposing QB. As a bonus, they took Aguayo back to his heyday also and he made them pay! They’re gonna have to retire that one when they play the Bucs in the future lollllll
November 20th, 2016 at 5:24 pm
@i’m tired…We should do it with a Pirate theme…ARRR ARRR AR AR ARRRRR…ARRRRRR ARRR ARRRRRRRRRRR…while mimicking swigging rum from a bottle
November 20th, 2016 at 5:25 pm
Something about Jameis too is that he’s always played better on the road even going back to college. I know when we’d have a road game at FSU, I knew he’d kill it. Even his pro career started that way with him having that disastrous first game and then beating Brees and the Saints in his second. Might be a problem for some of these mediocre division leading teams if the Bucs can sneak into the playoffs.

Plus I think all the red color helped out lol
November 20th, 2016 at 5:26 pm
His best attribute are leadership, desire, work ethic and knowledge. It’s great to have the franchise.
November 20th, 2016 at 5:27 pm
I’m sure you’ll have an article about it up in a few hours or so, but I just watched the locker room interview with Shorts. He said Jameis wrote a letter to the whole team telling them how much appreciated the chance he had to play with them all. Such an awesome gesture. Such a good kid. The future is bright in Tampa, I think.

The Buccaneers are the greatest team ever !!!
WHERE ALL YOU JAMEIS WINSTON HATERS AT NOW?!
*crickets chirping*
November 20th, 2016 at 5:32 pm
Roberto kicked their arsssss!!
Go Noles!!!
November 20th, 2016 at 5:34 pm
When I saw the crowd doing the warchant, my first thought was “oooooohhh, you just f’d up!
November 20th, 2016 at 5:36 pm
Hope NoSBoS shows up again. We’re now at 5-5 with 6 games left. Famous put on a drill with all those 3rd down plays. What a way to say Happy Turkey Day, Bucs Nation. Bring on the Seahawks!!
November 20th, 2016 at 5:38 pm
Warren I love it!!!
November 20th, 2016 at 5:40 pm
The Chief fans cursed the team when they started that monotonous racket.
November 20th, 2016 at 5:41 pm
We flew out from Tampa Friday for the game. We commented on how the war chant would make Jameis and Roberto feel more comfortable. Arrowhead was an unreal experience and the KC fans couldn’t have been nicer, even after they lost. Great road trip… Go Bucs!

GUYS……..I might have actually gotten rid of Kobe Faker if he is a man of honor.

That is freakin Awesome Rob. # trufan
November 20th, 2016 at 6:01 pm
I loved it and apparently Jamie’s did too.
Anyone that has any real football knowledge can tell ajameis is already becoming an elite QB at only the age of 22.
November 20th, 2016 at 6:05 pm
I mentioned to several people after the game that the “chant” worked in our favor. JW was probably digging it!
November 20th, 2016 at 6:16 pm
That’s funny. I was actually thinking it could be a mental advantage for Jameis.
November 20th, 2016 at 6:20 pm
@warren I love it!
November 20th, 2016 at 6:35 pm
Being a Cane fan, I really hate that chant, but when I heard the chiefs doing it, I was like yeah, come on, keep it going, that plays into Jameis and Roberto
November 20th, 2016 at 6:45 pm
Hell if Jameis loves the warchant so much, the bucs should develop their own version of it. I’m thinking something along the lines of “GOOOOOOOO BUCS GOOOOOOOOO, GOOOOOOOO BUCS GOOOOOOOOOO!” I think it would be a dope battlecry for fans at Ray Jay to bellow for all to hear.
November 20th, 2016 at 6:46 pm
As a Nole I simply despise any other team using our chant. Hate it.
If it works for Jameis well then that’s all well and fine, but, but it does need to stop.
November 20th, 2016 at 6:53 pm
Great win and Jameis outside of a few high throws and the turnover looked like a franchise type guy
November 20th, 2016 at 6:54 pm
That’s a kick in the balls if I’ve ever seen one. LOL
November 20th, 2016 at 7:00 pm
wouldn’t it be something if the Bucs played that warchant during home games? who knows, it might turn the stadium upside down…those who cheer for the visitors would wonder what the heck was happening…Raymond James would rock….
November 20th, 2016 at 7:15 pm
the sky’s the limit with the famous one, i say if he likes the chant, and the kicker likes it, bring it to raymond jameis, make it ours, keep em stoked, and maybe get some nole fans in the stadium on sundays
November 20th, 2016 at 7:36 pm
I can’t wait to beat the Semenoles next week amidst the War Chant!!!!!!
November 20th, 2016 at 7:42 pm
@Buc 1987
I echo your sentiment! Admittingly a gator alum and buc season tix holder it is a great chant for the noles but leave it with the noles. It is their anthem and there are too many other loyalists to their college that may say not so fast. Not being disrespectful at all to the noles but leave it in college…
November 20th, 2016 at 7:51 pm
I think we need to start a RAYJAY WAR CHANT!!!! Something that brands our stadium when you’re inside of it. I COULD CARE LESS IF IT’S “YO HO!!!” or the SEMINOLE CHANT! WE NEED TO GET THE INTIMIDATION BACK IN RAY JAY AND THAT IS A A HUGE PART OF THE GAME!!!!!
November 20th, 2016 at 7:56 pm
I like your thinking Kevin…what would be a good chant? Im always there at the games so maybe I could get something started. Haha
November 20th, 2016 at 8:15 pm
Chants. War crys. HocusPocus from the stands? Really?? Do you think for one minute that makes the difference between victory, or defeat. Please: it’s about blocking, catching, execution and groin pulls, Buttercup. Give it up to the guys in the trenches, they are the warriors that put the ‘W’ in Win. Great job converting 3rd downs, 11/16 is something to hang your helmet on. Good ballin’, Bucs. I’m proud and loud.
November 20th, 2016 at 8:22 pm
Bring back the fight songs of old
November 20th, 2016 at 8:39 pm
Serious Kudos to those of you that took the Bucs today in the JoeBucsFan.com Pickem!!!
November 20th, 2016 at 9:10 pm
Didn’t pick them but glad to be wrong about it sb. Go Bucs!
November 20th, 2016 at 9:39 pm
I already have my tickets for the Seahawks game, and you can bet im bringing that warchant with me
November 20th, 2016 at 10:42 pm
That is genuinely awesome.
November 20th, 2016 at 10:42 pm

Hard to have chant with 17,000 buc fans in crowd
November 21st, 2016 at 1:24 am
I’ve been posting fro months that the lack of energy and dismal charisma of the fans really hurt the Bucs when they play at home and the energy of the fans could play a big part in turning that around. So many commenters disagreed with me saying if the Bucs want fans to cheer they have to win first, blah, blah, blah…
Let this be exhibit A that the players do hear, respond to, and feed off the energy of the crowd. Period. Stop selling tickets to opposing fans. Bring the energy. Bring the noise. The wins will follow.

War chants do make the people actually playing the game know that the fans are behind them and pumps them up.

I’m with you Warren, Bucs need their own chant. Will spend my weekend watching all of the Pirate of the Caribbean movies looking for ideas while picking turkey carcass & eating extra turkey drumsticks smoked on the grill.
I wonder what a Seahawk tastes like after they get smoked?
