Time For Doug Martin To Man Up
November 19th, 2016It’s about time Joe start holding Doug Martin to the $8 million paycheck he’s collecting this year — and will collect next year.
Guaranteed.
The Bucs decided to pay Martin like a superstar. So let’s start seeing superstar production.
(Remember, Joe lobbied very hard for the Bucs to slap the franchise tag on Martin to make him prove he was worthy of a long term deal with his history of inconsistency and injury.)
Sunday’s opposition, the Chiefs, possess the NFL’s 27th-ranked run defense — and they’re banged up all over the place.
Martin returned last week rusty but healthy and smiled his way to 16 carries last Sunday against the Bears. Martin shook off rust after his Week 2 hamstring injury.
Candid head coach/playcaller Dirk Koetter said Martin was so spry in practice this week you’d never know he had been injured.
OK. So Martin is ready and raring to go. Now go produce like a franchise running back!!
Jiminy Christmas! The Jaguars rolled up 205 yards on 32 rushes against the Chiefs two weeks ago.
Joe is sick and tired of tolerating mediocrity.
If Martin goes out there and hammers out a good day, and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, keeps playing like he has been, then the Bucs have a good shot to steal a win and change the course of this franchise.
The Bucs have to at least be competitive against the Chiefs. No excuses. Go look like a nasty, hard-hitting football team.

It’s not JBF Doug Martin Ale so we can hold him to account no problem.
November 19th, 2016 at 11:26 am
Go Bucs. If we get big contributions from Martin, Jamies, Brate, Humpries and Shorts or Shepard we win. Simple as that.

Fair yet firm, great article JOE!
November 19th, 2016 at 11:35 am
The Blocking has to be there Joe! Just ask any running back in the league! STEP/UP AMERICA I VOTED NOT MY PRESIDENT DOWN WITH BANNON!
November 19th, 2016 at 11:35 am
Jags got 205 yards rushing against KC?!? Is that for real, Joe? Did Jax do that at Arrowhead? Welp, on any given Sunday…………..Go Bucs (I hope)!!

Doug only works every other year…. This is not his year. Bad signing should have either been franchised or let walk. Licht gambles with too many soft injury prone players. I like his drafts but everything else is a gamble at best.

Never give big money to a runningback. Never
15 million! Wow! Gump!
Runners are plug and play disposable and lose explosiveness
Martin right now is probably 20th runner in the nfl. Quizz is actually better runner than fat dougie. Now with next years money on martin, we cant draft a stud runnningback
You know why coaches cant dont have mandatory 40 yard dashes for every player at training camp??
November 19th, 2016 at 12:20 pm
Sorry about that….
Because the union and the veterans will immediately go on strike
Their 40 yard times will be astonishing. How fast you think doug is now after all those hits, injurys and age? 4.8 at 40 yard. Fat doug is slow while there would be 22 year old studs ready to run
Gump does it again
39 games till free agency

Wouldn’t be stealing a win, this team is 2 plays away from being 6-3 ( Strip sack TD against Rams and holding penalty on 4th down against Oakland). Te Chiefs are not as good as their record states, the bucs should have full confidence going into this game.

Still waiting for Martin to have a breakout game this year … 3 games, 41 carries, 141 yds rushing doesn’t impress me (less than 3 yds/carry?). Has done excellent catching the ball out of the backfield though (6-for-7 and 47 yds). Peyton Barber is actually having a slightly better year … 8 games, 39 carries, 160 yds rushing (over 4 yds per carry?). Plus Barber’s doing pretty well out of the backfield himself (4-for-5 and 24 yds). Regardless, RBs are only as good as their OLine, and hopefully Dotson & Benenoch especially are up to the task. I expect to see Koetter mix a lot of short play-action stuff along with a heavy dose of Martin rushing (as long as the game is close), plus some intermediate passes using Evans & Brate especially. Probably very few deep in this game. I’m thinking the Bucs will pull out a victory 24-16 (assuming that we win the turnover battle).

One huge factor here is Caleb Benenoch at left guard. He did not play well in his first NFL start coming off a serious injury which could’ve been expected and probably some first game jitters. He better step it up this week because Doug often likes to break it to the left.

Time For Doug Martin To Man Up? I have to admit that if you want bucs content this is the place to be but fair consistent reliable content based on knowledge and facts is so debatable. Every week I see you guys calling out every player on this roster except Gmc. Care I say Martin has accomplished more in his short career than McCoy even being injured 2 of those years.
When has Gmc been second in the league in Sacks. Doug Martin was second in rising last year. Doug Martin broke bucs single season fishing record. Does McCoy hold any buc records? He’ll get some record eventually just by being on the team another 2 years.
No one tells McCoy to step up this week considering the week offensive line the chiefs have. You guys have even called out Robert ayers
Quantity doesn’t equal quality and this is weak journalism at its best. At least Martin has proved he can be not only the best running back on the team but around the NFL. McCoy he’s simply the best pass rusher on this team he’s not considered top 5 probably not considered top 10
Call or the d line facing a weak O line Joe’s and G get your shiet together

Doug must be licking his chops to run against the Chiefs. Call him roly poly or whatever you like, we need a good game from Martin to get the win.
November 19th, 2016 at 4:13 pm
Another “we should have franchised Martin” post eh?
I really don’t think any of you realize how much RBs every where get injured. How’s the might Jaquizz Rodgers holding up? …. Oh he’s injured….. well good thing we have sims for insurance…. oh wait…. well good thing koetter brought in antone Smith…. ah crap….
But nope, Doug Martin is the only one that gets criticized for being injured. He’s back and healthy. Call Doug out after he has a bad stretch, but not after getting freshly activiated off injury. The tone and headline of this article are too soon. If Doug struggles to be productive after the chiefs game, then that is the time to call him out. Bad timing.

@Not there yet I completely agree. Joe- I normally tend to agree with your articles but you are really jumping the gun here. We know that Doug’s presence provides a huge lift to the team. Every player should be held accountable, however, Doug will need at least some blocking to hold up in order to produce big results (no matter how healthy he is). I would look at more than just the rushing yards to see where his presence is making an impact. I’m going to be paying attention to his pass protection, receiving ability, and play calling is also an important factor. GO BUcs!
November 19th, 2016 at 6:28 pm
Doug has not even sniffed 4 yards a cary this year. Even in preseason he was less than 3 yrs per carry. Wasn’t running that good before he got hurt. I agree with Joe, time for Doug so step up and look like a elite running back.

Funny, you only add that when you are right. Never seen a disclaimer about how you wanted the Bucs to extend Josh Freeman to a “team friendly contract” or how you were adamant the Bucs select John Manziel in the first round of the 2014 draft.

Well we do have the worst pair of starting tackles in the NFL.
November 19th, 2016 at 8:56 pm

It’s about football. If you want to carry water for Hillary post your idiocy on MSNBC, or Crooked Clinton Network. Jerk

Also people just assume that he would be willing to re-sign after being tagged for a year. We didn’t overpay for Martin so I’m not sure why it’s necessary to keep talking about the tag. I’m just glad he chose to come back here. He easily could have gone to a team like the Raiders with a much better O-Line and surrounding talent
November 19th, 2016 at 10:59 pm
Don’t believe Doug puts the work in to be great. Last year all you heard was his preparation in offseason. This year none of that, got paid now back to average at best Martin. He starting that dancing and shuffling in backfield instead of hitting hole with power like he did last year.
Not sold on him , if there I would take FSU RB round one and trade Martin. Don’t do Adrian Peterson mistake again cause we had Cadillac.

“Man up” ??? Really? Are you in 5th grade or have you just watched too many former NFL players become crappy NFL talkers?

BigHog…wow someone actually cared.
