Improving Jameis
November 19th, 2016Joe was on record earlier this season saying it appeared America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, had regressed.
Well, Jenna Laine of ESPN dug up data that reveals Joe was wrong.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, Winston has a total quarterback rating of 84.0 when under pressure this season, a massive jump from 58.5 last year and 21 points higher than any other quarterback in the NFL. His completion percentage under pressure this year is 48.5 percent, and last year it was 42.7 percent.
Laine also (again) brings up data showing how much Jameis has changed as an NFL quarterback. She points out Jameis was terrible under pressure at Florida State but under pressure and moving out of the pocket is when Jameis becomes lethal.
Jameis showing so much skill outside the pocket has led Dirk Koetter to install more plays designed to get Jameis on the outside, Laine notes.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:16 pm
Jameis still does not know when to throw the ball away. He made a spectacular play last week, throwing to Mike Evans. That play could have just as well been a safety as he was either in or near the end zone when scrambling. He doesn’t have to win the game on his own.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:26 pm
So should we not get a good LT now? Whenever someone gets by D.Smith he can just yell “JAMEIS RUN!!” lol
November 19th, 2016 at 1:32 pm
For America’s (2nd Most Hated) Game-Manager QB to maximize his “skill outside the pocket”, the OL will need to be healthy and make sure that he stays upright. I know that the Sweezy story is a sore spot, but we know more about Bigfoot and the Skunk Ape than we know about this guy.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:39 pm
Seminole i was thinking the same thing. Some think it was a spectacular play. Some think it was just lucky.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:54 pm
There was skill involved. When Barry Sanders made the runs he did, were they luck or skill? He definitely has the athletic ability to make D linemen miss or shrugs them off, that’s skill.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:54 pm
Jenna could be the first ESPN wonk COVERING the Bucs who actually LIKES the Bucs and WATCHES the Bucs.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:54 pm
Haters hahahahhahaha. Sit there in your poop juice, mad because he is proving you wrong. Go Jameis! Yup
November 19th, 2016 at 2:00 pm
Jenna Laine sighting!
Hey joes, let me see your hands where i can see them
Becareful, Jenna s red lipstick can be mesmerizing…
Ok where was i
Its not because of choice, jaboo has been running for his life. There is no clean pocket to step into because this putrid very offensive line
Jameis supporting cast is 2nd or 3rd worst in talent in the whole nfl. While the rest of the GMs are drafting and signing players to help their franchise QB, Forrest moves up and drafts a kicker.
We will never win with Jason gump as our GM. He is a buffoon, walking cartoon character. He looks like and is Boo Boo with legs. 3rd worst talented roster in the nfl
November 19th, 2016 at 2:30 pm
Everyone lives in the moment and doesn’t look at the big picture. Dirk/Jameis for 7-10 years like Payton/Brees have blueprinted for us. Get a halfway decent defense and we should be in the mix come playoff time. That’s a lot better than last place 5 years running. Dirk has yet to be in last place as an NFL head coach.
November 19th, 2016 at 2:47 pm
Jameis has good stretches like last year but still starts games slow and for a team that has bad talent you need a consistently good qb to give you a chance
November 19th, 2016 at 3:01 pm
I happen to think that its because he’s under more pressure than last year. Donavan Smith hasn’t progressed. Dotson is washed up. Let Smith take over the right side, release Dotson, and draft a new LT in the 2018 draft, cause in tthe 2017 draft we need more defense. I’m hoping for a shot at Peppers or the Ohio State safety
GO BUCS!!!
November 19th, 2016 at 3:36 pm
We need to protect Jameis and build our O-line. Look at Dallas. No name defense and 1 receiving threat in Dez. Dak isn’t as good as Jameis. Building our O-line protects our defense and our greatest asset. Draft a stud LT and Center. Our team will benefit from it for years to come.
November 19th, 2016 at 3:48 pm
But didn’t the big moron on 620 say he sucked a few weeks back? That guy makes me sick and he can go live in Tennessee with the rest of the Mariota lovers.
November 19th, 2016 at 3:57 pm
Jameis has obviously improved from year one. It is just natural to prepress with more experience. It just goes to show how bad he was at times last season. We all remember the great things he has done and over look the “rookie” mistakes. But in all reality there were some really rough games for Jameis last season, the final 4 games were not pretty. This season Jameis has gone through similar ups and downs. The downs just aren’t as far down as they were last season.
Sometimes I worry about Jameis and whether he can be an Elite QB, but if can just gain some consistency, that is all that is really keeping him from being an elite QB. And a lot of the production that Jameis gets obviously goes through his entire offense. From the coaches to the lineman and WRs. They all play a part in how good Jameis can be. Elite QBs can throw into tight windows, but Bucs WRs seem to have their windows shut most of the time. Can’t throw the ball through the side of the house.
I think Jason licht will be ready this off season to load up the offense with talent. He focused on defense all last season. Next season should go back to the offense. Mainly being WR. I also think a first round OT is a solid play. We should be adding at least 1 starting caliber o lineman and every off season. I like most of the guys we have on the o line now. But there is always someone better, or someone who can push a starter to be better, or just be a heck of a back up. Better o lineman will equal a better and more healthy Jameis. And that should be goal number 1 every off season. How can we make our QB better.
November 19th, 2016 at 4:19 pm
Is there really a stud OT to take in this years first round ? I don’t think so. Maybe Notre Dames LT. Mike McGlinchey, but reports are he’s returning to school. I think Robinson won’t do good in the NFL, an Florida State Roderick is more of a RT. Which we should upgrade also.
LT: M McGlinchey ( Notre Dame )
LG: D Smith
C: A Marpet
RG: K Pamphile
RT: R Johnson. (Florida State)
But it most likely won’t happen lol.
November 19th, 2016 at 5:07 pm
@BucsfaninNC
Dak has Bryant, Witten, Terrance Williams along with two good backs do your research
November 19th, 2016 at 5:21 pm
Trubuc
Agreed completely on the o-line. Doesn’t have to always be a 1st rounder, but you should always be adding quality guys to it. It’s clear as a day we need an upgrade at 1 of the tackle positions.
We should be able to find a quality WR in rounds 1 – 3, or in Free Agency.
However, we DEFINITELY need more pieces on defense. Safety is glaring weakness, and the DL needs more production whether in a DE or DT. I would prefer 2 DL to be honest. I love Jac Smith’s ability as a pass rusher when he comes back, but he can’t seem to stay healthy therefor you can’t rely on him.
As the saying goes, it all starts in the trenches. We need OL, DL, S, WR
November 19th, 2016 at 5:32 pm
Dak is not as good as Winston aaaaahahaha. Are you serious!!!!!. Winston is not a top 20 QB in this league. Dak is a top 10. Mariota is about to move into the top 10. Thanks to being money in the red zone. But hey Winston has moved up from 24 to 20 and is given me a glimmer of hope. That he can be an over 60% passer. These real teams tend to expose him as a pretender thou.
November 19th, 2016 at 5:38 pm
Dez is a bit better than Evans. Witten at this point in his career is equall to Brate. Terrence Williams phhhhhh please. O-line is way better than ours. Best tweet from last weekend……LT Dan could run behind the Cowboys OLine.
November 19th, 2016 at 5:49 pm
Poor Glennon if you put Dakota on this team he would have 15 turnovers. But see people like you that have no idea what your watching. Also you think maybe the reason Mariota is good in the red zone is because teams HAVE to load up against their dominate running game? Dude Jameis has played with backup runningbacks all year but two games and what happened in those games? That’s what I thought and that’s not even mentioning one receiver, a undrafted tight end and an oline that had its center go in and out basically every game. But see you think quarterbacks play alone cause you probably have never thrown a football in your life.
November 19th, 2016 at 5:57 pm
Kobe why do you hate Licht so much? Do you think he sould be perfect? I mean in 3 years he has drafted the best qb we have ever had, the best wr we have ever had, a very good guard, a good middle linebacker, a good corner, picked up a tight end that is getting better and better weekly, a decent left guard, a decent left tackle, a decent center, and this year in free agency a solid corner and de to temporarily fill those gaps. In addition a great punter and a kicker that could be very good if given time. I not sure what you want and I almost forgot Noah Spence who half through his rookie year already has 4 sacks.
November 19th, 2016 at 5:58 pm
Dak wouldn’t play that way behind our oline.. Put Winston behind Dallas oline an I’m sure he’d be a top 15, top 10 qb also.. fix our oline and get Winston more weapons, he would be better than Dak.
November 19th, 2016 at 6:48 pm
Winston is improving as an improviser, he does make plays that way.
Now he just needs to focus on shortening up his release so that he can get rid of the ball quicker (see Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Derek Carr).
Once those mechanics get worked out he’ll be a 65% passer. I think one of his issues with his deep ball is he throws it too hard. You gotta arc it and float it so wr can run under it or too it.
The deep throws he misses, he’s not giving wr a chance to make a play on the ball.
I’d like to see him string 3 or 4 good games together in a row so we have something to cheer for around here.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:31 pm
The good news for you guys is that Jameis will not be a buc in 2 years. Jameis is yet another player that is just not good enough for the tampabay Buccaneers.
Hey is anyone watching the NFLN special “The 0-26 Buccaneers”? I can’t wait to see it. This town has such a rich history of winners over the years it totally make sense that Jameis doesn’t meet your standards.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:32 pm
Ed in case you haven’t noticed we have scored 24 or more in our last four games with guys off the street playing runningback and wide out. Who do you think is making that happen? Man you people are impossible. Want to see a few good games in a row, he says!
November 19th, 2016 at 7:36 pm
Ndog
This year was a total failure of a job from a GM
We are now behind a 8ball and have to fill holes 2x
We could have had 2 top wrs and ader tackle, safety and off line
Dude, please jameis was fvking lovies piclk
Draft-
Dsmith isnt a nfl tackle
Vg3 is a iffy #3 corner that should have never been that high
Mike evans is not elite. He cant rac and catch quick slants and crosses to save his live
Ryan smith is a bust
Ucla cel? Lineman is a bust
Aguayo is a bust
Noah spence is a project. Look at his sacks. They were 15 second coverage sacks
And now let me tell you and everyone why our defense has gashes and exposed…..
KWON ALEXANDER IS A WILD UNDISCIPLINED MIS-TACKLING PLAYER that all off coordinators attack
FA-
11 milly vjack
15 2 year fat doug
10 mill sweezy
A competant GM would have made us a playoff team this year with 5-6 players in this team
November 19th, 2016 at 7:37 pm
DB55 Says:
September 30th, 2016 at 1:22 pm
JWs secret weapon are his feet. I think we need to incorporate some option plays ala cam newton, roll out and get him out the pocket. Don’t be afraid of him getting hurt, he takes a pounding in the pocket as it is. Plus he plays better after a big hit. That’s what football players do.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:39 pm
Word on the street is Vjax isn’t really hurt. Hmmm interesting.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:49 pm
Kobe I love how you are calling first year players busts after 8 games into their careers when people like you and Joe were saying Pamphile was a bust this time a year ago as well. What your little mind can’t seem to understand is that these rookies even playing right now is impressive. Once they get some experience they might be dominate players in this league we don’t know quite yet. Spence is a rookie playing part time with a bump shoulder and has made a impact regardless what you say.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:54 pm
And btw Evans is 5th in the league in receiving yards, tied for 1st in Tds and is doing this with no 2nd receiver. Yeah your right he is average. Like I’ve told you before it’s time for you to get a new sport to watch pal.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:56 pm
I agree with Kobe, Jason Licht is the worst GM in the NFL. It’s not even close,
November 19th, 2016 at 8:02 pm
Agreed evans will be better with another competent wr other tan vjack and cecil shorts
End of the year freddie and shep is going to open our o to another level
Phampile seems like a okay starter , who would have known. Licht sure didnt think so because he spent 10 mill on damaged goods. Mack sure would bave been nice at center with that money
November 19th, 2016 at 8:06 pm
Im 36 now. Ive learned stupid people do stupid things. Smart people do smart things
Drafting a kicker in the 2nd round (not even good) is inexcusable
November 19th, 2016 at 8:29 pm
NOW LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT JADON GUMP and how he got here in tampa
I spend half my time near philly, gumps was a buffoon there. At NE he was a buffoon. Google bill bellichik, NE, and jason licht and than replace him with jon robinson. Gump was a smuck in arizona
Do you know why lovie picked gump who was never qualified to have a GM job?
Lovie wanted to run the whole show and wanted a yes man and to not compete with a competent, qualified and experienced Gm. He wanted his players.
Do you remember wedsday morning when america was surprised trump won? That was lovie when he got the phonecall he was fired but 10x. Lovie would have never thought a unqualified goof he brought in stab him in the back. Isnt life funny. Lovie probably right now still cant believe it.
November 19th, 2016 at 8:40 pm
NOW LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT DIRK KOETTER
Offensive guru? Hell no. He was the predictable playcaller from jacksonville. Run run pass with garrand and couldnt develop gabbert
Atlanta? Atlanta offense and scheme was setup by a very good offensive mind murlarky. After winning off coor award he left for hc job. Matt ryan and the offense was already in place
Kobes BIG problem with koetter is he has personality flaws that is detrimental to head coaches. He is insecure
He doesnt bring in a qualified and experienced offensive coordinator to help in the playcalling and the development of our franchise QB. He wants no one to second guess his scheme and development of jameis
He is unqualified head coach and talks in circles and condensending way because of his insecurities
November 19th, 2016 at 8:43 pm
Sign Andrew Whitworth for 2 yrs move D Smith to RT
LT- Whitworth
LG- Pamphile
C- Marpet
RG- Sweezy
RT- D Smith
November 19th, 2016 at 10:00 pm
Kobe Faker, you are tough on AC/DC-lovin’ GM Jason Licht and Coach Koetter (who, according to my sources, is a “breath of fresh air like a cool breeze with all of the doors and windows open”), but you do make some good points. Like it or not, though, the owners will most likely stay the course with the current regime for at least another two years. How did you feel about Spandau-Ballet-lovin’ ex-GM Mark Dominik?
November 19th, 2016 at 10:29 pm
Makes good points?
November 19th, 2016 at 11:46 pm
Licht wanted Winston in 2014. Lovie might have had final say, but Licht was on board before he even meet Lovie. Let’s not forget recorded history.
November 20th, 2016 at 7:40 am
@Kobe
so if Koetter and Chip Kelly could not develope it is because Gabbert does not posess Nfl level talent.
November 20th, 2016 at 9:05 am
Quit bickering.
Perhaps you’d rather have a Trent Dilfer, Vinny Testaverde or Josh Freeman.
Quit bickering.
November 20th, 2016 at 9:17 am
Kobe just shooting sh1t out his asz again
I’ve laid out a ton of real facts to show Light is at worst; an average NFL GM when it comes to success rates in FA/drafts and it’s always ignored. Most would say he’s been a top 1/3 drafter compared to other teams with maybe 1-3 impact players total the last couple drafts. Kicker in 2nd round looks bad but beyond that Kobe has lost his mind. Apparently GMs are supposed to also be the highest qualified MD in the world too.
November 20th, 2016 at 10:52 am
L Corn
2016 GM of the year – Jon Robinson …..not even close
Amazing you disagreed with his moves
GM robinson will win/build multi superbowls teams not only with Tenn and enter the hall of fame….
And we had him last year at 1 buc place…
But all we got is boo-boo bear
November 20th, 2016 at 12:59 pm
well you can go root for Tennessee then, and we don’t have to hear your whining any more
