Yes, halfway through the 2016 season, the Buccaneers have secured the No. 8 pick in the NFL Draft, if the season ended today.
So what do the Bucs need?
Well, NFL.com has its running analysis of team needs and the draft, delivered by in-house film guru Lance Zierlein.
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2016 record: 3-5 (.522)
Top needs: DL, S, WR
Analysis: Tampa Bay will need to find a high-impact player along the defensive line who can create mayhem on a regular basis. Safety is a need and could get early round consideration. While Mike Evans is a stud, Tampa Bay has to find another threat for Jameis Winston.
Zierlein is well focused here, Joe believes.
The Bucs are desperate for a wide receiver, and they’d be clueless if they passed on greatly enhancing the weapons available to America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. You don’t draft a QB No. 1 overall to hang him out to dry.
Joe suspects the Bucs will address receiver in free agency, since they shouldn’t gamble on a receiver in the draft.
Same old story on the Bucs needing a “high-impact player” on the defensive line. When was Gaines Adams drafted? Yeah, 2007.
Based on how the second-half of the season plays out at running back could determine if the Bucs look there as early as the third round in April.

We need to address WR in both free agency and the draft. Not either / or.
D line and safety are obvious spots, but honestly we need two safeties. Starting safeties.

We don’t need fans like you MIKE JOHNSON, your a cry baby that does nothing but cry. Tampa is a young confused team with a first year coach and second year quarterback. First year defensive coordinator as well, we need to let things gel and mesh for at least a year or two. Were 3-5 same as a few other really good teams. We need to take each week, one at a time and go from there. Right now, we need to concentrate on the Chicago Bears this Sunday, get to 4-5 and second place again. Then will regroup, and come up with a new plan.

Agree with Mike Johnson that a top 5 pick is probably in the cards. I sure hope Licht’s Out isn’t eyeballing a long snapper with a premium pick….

Mike Smith is not a first year defensive coordinator. I’d be surprised if this team finished 5-11. There are some realistic fans and then there are fans that think their team is good just because they can name the players on the team. Tampa has so many holes it’s crazy. Safety, WR, Center, DE, CB, RB, OLB. You just keep on thinking that this team will magically become a winning team.

WR. Terrelle Pryor/Jeffery (whoever is cheaper)
TE Martellus Bennett
I’d be happy with three of these guys. All young and talented.
Use draft to fill the stable, beefing up or lines. Get a couple OLine backups late in FA.

@ JayKpatel …Kwan Short will be resigned.. so will Poe.. Jefferson might not.. Pryor won’t be going anywhere.. What Jeffrey will give us we already have in Mike Evans.. Martellus Bennett is over 30 we need a young stud

We get no pressure on opposing qbs, we get beat over the top consistently, our #1 reciever had 17 targets in the last game. Good draft need evaluation.

@mike Johnson…I agree….we will be picking top 5 and this team will quit on dirk after the bears maul us….truth hurts but it is what it is….I say grab mike Williams in the first out of Clemson….myles garrett may be gone by the 2nd pick….a sleeper that we might be able to get in the second round is d’onta foreman/rb out of texas or marcus maye/safety out of florida….those texas a&m safeties are good too….

After a long tense election night it appears many Buc’s fans are divided on the direction of this team going forward. It is not finding the right players in the draft, it is not signing the best free agents, it is not creating a coaching carousel that changes every two years. It is a gradual combination of all of the above. We are a small market team who draw from a population of people that support the teams from whence the grew up. Few of us are original Buc fans that haven’t cheered for another team. Many of us know what its like to go from Bad to a Super Bowl to obscurity. We look at our hero’s Lynch. Sapp, Barber, Brooks, Nickerson, Alstptt et. al. and we see players who probably couldn’t play today because of all the rule changes, concussion protocol, replay systems ect. I suggest we take it one game at a time, realize that we are going to lose more than we win for a long time, and know that if you don’t like it sell your tickets, get Nfl Red Zone and watch it on TV.

This is why people that say Licht is drafting great, give me a break, he is drafting in great positions every year. He has done a terrible job signing free agent players and with later round draft picks. That is where great or even good GM’s can make a team that is competitive.

Wasted a third round draft choice on a dancing running back that has been hurt 2 of the 3 years he has been in league.
A fourth round pick that can not get on the field other than to receive kick offs.

I would say this needs to be a “Pound that rock” kind of draft and at #8 you draft Leonard Fournette. Then build depth along the defensive line for the rest of the draft. You think we need a lot but we really dont look at the Cowboys last year vs this year.

Draft a GM who knows how to evaluate talent and make decisions in the best interest of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers instead of his fragile fevered ego.
Then it is certain that a pass rush and passing game will follow. Licht is proven unqualified for the job.

Short maybe resigned but KC is in Vap trouble and the bucs are the top dog in Cap Space for 2017 (though a high chunk is going to Evens)
Poe next to 93 is = to adding Buger to Sap.
Bennett is a TE stop gap. He catches passes. 2yr deals. Give us productive depth and offensive weapon.

I don’t think Fournette will translate well into the pro’s. I briefly looked at the prospect list and it seems to be devoid of talent at FS past the 2nd round. Very premature judgment, but we will see. We need weapons… Direly. I am not seeing any WR free agents worth a damn. Pryor is going to be resigned. He is one of a very few browns players that stood out this year. They need a QB which is good for all picking after them who do not. The only logical pick would be WR. We need help there first and foremost. A decent add will take huge pressure off the D and will result in longer sustained drives. We should trade up early into the 2nd to snag a kicker… oh wait… I meant a safety. Someone with speed so they can play the cover 3 that smitty seems to be obsessed with. I’d like for us to have 2 picks in the 2nd, but that’s easier said then done. If in the unlikely chance that Short hits free agency I could almost see us trading off GMC for the right price.

The Bucs should address WR by going after Alshon Jeffery, Michael Floyd, or Kendall Wright. DE the only FA I see as worth going after is JPP. The DT that will be FA in 2017 either don’t fit or we don’t have a realistic shot at signing them.
Draft
Bucs should drop back if they can to pick up another pick or two since we are clearly still building the team. Then every draft pick needs to be a S, DT, DE, or OL.
Trading GMC
I would hate to see him go but if the value was there it might be in the best interests of GMC and the Bucs.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Drafting for need is for losers. This team would be better today if we had Laremy Tunsil at RT and Sterling Shepard at WR instead of Hargreaves at CB and Noah Spence at the bench.
That being said, this team has so many holes to fill that BPA will almost certainly fit an area of need. I’m personally hoping for Jabrill Peppers or Mike Williams.

I think the old dominick double down strategy could help next offseason. Except, I think we use the double down strategy by addressing needs in both FA and the draft. Example: get a safety in FA and then the Draft as well. We need Safety(2?), DLine, WR(2), Oline, and CB.

Dicount08..Concentrating on the Bears is Great! How about concentrating on Winning for a change? Have you watch the Bears any this season? I have. And they will..MAUL THE BUCS. You see, they actually play DEFENSE!! They actually bring a pass rush. Not just say, they are going to get better.

I love me some TE Jordan Ledge from Clemson. He has a 3rd round tag by most experts. He is a monster freak. If he’s there mid 3rd round go for him after drafting WR Reynolds (deep threat and YAC) from the A&M late 2nd after trading down in the 2nd while picking up another 4th rounder to get a developmental DT or DE. 1st rounder should be a Safety (I prefer Jamal Adams from LSU). Then in later rounds draft MLB for the future when we trade LVD and move Kwon to WLB in 2018.
Can’t be afraid to be bold. We need playmakers both sides of the ball!

I think the Bucs should also throw a late round pick at grabbing Josh Gordon. He is hit or miss and a late round pick is basically the same thing.
