Seems Dirk Koetter may have a fractured locker room.
Interesting words from Dirk Koetter last week in his day-after presser.
Koetter previously noted there is a definite losing culture within the Bucs he is trying to delouse. That sentiment crept up again Friday. Koetter explained he needs to coach up the Bucs better and that the buck (no pun intended) stops at his desk.
“I have to figure out how to reach these guys,” Koetter said. “[H]ow to motivate them, how to get them on the same page, get them to play together, to play up to the talent level that I think we have. That all starts with me.”
Two things jumped out at Joe here. Koetter, in so many words, said he can’t reach some players. Joe could be totally off base but it seems some players already have tuned out Koetter or may have never tuned in. If so, those players have no business being on the roster next spring.
If these guys (whatever the number of culprits) tune out Koetter or other assistants, they just as easily will tune out future coaches, if Team Glazer saw fit to bring in new coaches. This type of mentality personifies losing. These guys need to be identified and shipped out, period.
As Bear Bryant used to say about never bringing back a player who quit on the team, “If you quit on me once, you’ll quit on me again.”
As far as motivation, if playing a game we grew up loving for millions to set yourself and your family up for generations isn’t motivation, then get out. Go pollute some other team’s locker room, preferably the Stinking Panthers’.

At what point do Bucs’ media & fans stop looking for ‘culprits’? When do folks stop being so concerned about players’ ‘motivation’ and start being more concerned about talent level? Teams with a ‘losing culture’ seem to have one thing in common: they all lose a LOT of games. I know, it sounds ridiculously obvious but losing grates on fans AND players alike. At the most elite level in any sport, I’d suspect that the more talented and better coached teams win the most consistently. Less talented or poorly coached teams? No so much.
Coaching isn’t our problem right now; talent level is. And it has been for many years. Bucs’ management has done a poor job of stocking this roster with the talent level necessary to win consistently. Take a look at several positions: WR, TE, RB, DE, LB, Safety. How many players do we have who you’d call ‘elite’ at those positions based on their performance this year? 1? Maybe 2? Possibly as many as 4 at the start of the season? Those positions comprise almost half the team and a bunch of them are manned by undrafted FAs. The weakest link on the Bucs is management … use them as your ‘culprit’ for losing and please stop using the players as your scapegoats.

Not sure which ones he is talking about, but he is right. He needs to get a handle on this thing pretty quick and draft replacements for the troublemakers.

Ive said it from day one.. Gerold McCoy does not play up to his potential.. Neither Does Levante David.. Look at Kwon.. Thats a player that balls out every week! We need more Kwons..

Luckily, the owners saw how bad the incompetent one is at his job, and now we are a year ahead and less of a mess to clean up!!!!! This year is about seeing who can play in the NFL and what players can be salvaged by coaching the lovie out of them!!!!!!!
It is closer to becoming a good team around here than you think!!!!!!

So the coach that coaches conservatively calls out the players motivation. These guys are human, yeah they’re paid millions. The offense drives Dow the field, bring in the kicker and he misses a field goal, the offense drives down the field and scores a touchdown and you look away because you are not sure if you will get the extra point. The defense when they get off the field and then the offense goes there and out. The defense can’t stop a 3rd and 15+ with consistency. Jameis and the offense turn the ball over. Injuries are part of the game, but you look up and down goes Doug, down goes Chuck, down goes Quizz, down goes V-jax, down goes Shep, down goes Jack Smith, down goes McCoy and McDonald again. Bye bye to ASJ, bye bye Banks… did I mention missing wide open receivers to keep drives going (I am on the JW bandwagon), now ask me about motivation, they are pros, of course they are motivated but I think OBP is is lacking leadership on every level and the are just trying to figure it out

Watching that Eagles / Giants game saw both Najee Goode and Jonathan Casillias starting. I expect to see Banks playing well with the Lions . Guys we let go have no problem playing for other teams. God I miss Michael Bennett

Well said defense,10 -12 years of mismanagement has left this team in bad shape.We had a lot of misses in the first couple of rounds so that we are not improving and we still have to replace badly drafted player instead of moving
on to another problem area.In recent years our expensive free agent acquisitions have not been as good as advertised or been on the field enough.

Hope DK has had some very serious talks w/Mike Smith this week. I’m not sold on Smith. I am sold on the FACT that DK needs to be HC for AT LEAST 2 more seasons!! The administrative/coaching instability has crippled this team. I said 8-8 last year; I’m sticking to it this year. Go Bucs!!

we can sit here and guess all day, but for starters based on how the bucs are getting walked all over on defense, i’d start my guessing with some defensive players who actually liked what lovie was doing. not sure how dirk would have allowed offensive malcontents to carry over to year 2

Please don’t get rid of anymore talent, that seems to be our staple move. Just win and the players will tune in. Great coaches find ways to motivate different personalities. Koetter should take a step back from offense and do what a head coach is supposed to do and manage millionaire personalities.

Ask his ex-players about him and you’ll never wonder why he was run, also, it’s been almost a decade and he’s still never been seriously considered for another HC position by anyone other than his agent, there’s a reason.

That’s simply inaccurate.
Chucky has turned down lots of overtures. He simply doesn’t want to coach. Doesn’t need to. He’s being paid a coach’s salary by BSPN to work only a handful of days a year with zero stress.

If Koetter can’t find a way to reach these players, he will be gone. A win on Sunday against the Bears is huge! If they can’t handle the Bears at home, this could be a Raheem-esque end to the season. I’m truly scared for this team right now.

GMC and everyone else has been asking this team for years to get him an explosive DE/DT to play next to him and they haven’t done it. No one can be a QB killer in this league if you’re getting double teamed on every play. Like Realist I also believe this team isn’t so far from being good. They need to bring in some big time players that have already proven themselves and some younger guys with a lot of potential in FA . Not guys like broke back Sweezy and give them 35 mil. If we can do that with one or two more decent drafts and the same coaching squad/scheme, we could make a turn around.

What’s up Joe & suffering Bucs fans! Do I think we can use more talent on the team, absolutely! But that can also be said about every team in the NFL, so let’s not harp on “talent.” Koetter is still moving the ball on offense w/ a less than talented group.
I think what coach is really saying is he needs to motivate players to do ALL they can to be ready for game day. Talent has nothing to do w/ players not knowing where to line up snap after snap, which was the case last Thursday. That takes STUDYING, dedicating yourself to your job by watching film & standing in the playbook.
I’m tired of excuses w/ “the defense is too complicated.” Remember last yr it was “Lovie defense is TOO simple.” So be careful what you ask for. We don’t need 11 McCoys, Davids & Alexanders. We need DEDICATED players who KNOW their assignments. The opposing offense shifts & we are totally dumbfounded SMH WTF!
