“We’re Going To Talk On The Phone”

October 30th, 2016

AguayomugHelp is on the way for Roberto Aguayo!

And it will come from a very sour man.

That’s the word from kicker Sebastian Janikowski, perhaps the only grumpy dude in the very happy Raiders locker room.

Considering Aguayo is an absolute mess of a kicker right now, Joe went talk to Janikowski after the Raiders beat the Bucs this afternoon.

Janikowki, the 2000 first-round pick of Oakland, was rather rude to Joe. Maybe it’s because Janikowski missed two field goals in the Raiders’ overtime win, but Joe wasn’t asking about that.

Joe wanted to know if Janikowski had talked to his fellow Florida State man Aguayo, and what advice Janikowski might have.

Well, let’s just say Janikowski was in no mood to talk to Joe.

However, Joe pressed Janikowksi and he admitted there would be a telephone consultation with him and Aguayo coming soon. Janikowski spoke to Aguayo before the game but wanted to wait until after the game for any significant chatter.

I know he missed an extra pointer but I still want to give him a chance. He’s a rookie and the wind was strong today…..it made Jan miss twice. Winston and our poor D not sealing the win is what cost us the game. Cant make Roberto the goat on this one, I dont care who you are!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m all for helping Aguayo…..but who’s going to call Jameis?

I’m a Winston fan but his inaccuracy is hurting us in many games…..he has got to settle down. I’m not close to panic yet….but we need to see some improvement soon.

  3. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I don’t believe he will do it…I think after his bad day today, Jan won’t do it..

  4. mac Says:

I forgot until today Sebastian Janikowski missed 10 field goals his rookie year… He was a first round pick… I can only hope Roberto can turn things around they way Sebass did…

  5. DallasBuc Says:

Just heard a fan calling into the Bucs radio show with Tkras calling Aguayo “the human point shaver”!!!

  6. DallasBuc Says:

There are still people on here trying to convince us that “he will be fine”. Yeah sure or maybe actually he won’t be fine, at least not as an NFL place kicker. What did he get his degree in again?

  7. Seminole Bill Says:

After the pre-season misses, I said “it’s just pre-season, he’ll get it right.” Then after the misses during the first 2-3 regular season games, I said, “he’s just adjusting to the NFL, he’ll get it right.” Now I look and say, “we better start looking for another kicker.”

  8. Dislocatedbucsfan Says:

    @Joe

Sebastian is an a$$ to most people.

  9. DallasBuc Says:

Jason Licht is an absolute joke. His track record as Bucs GM is anything but the rosy characterization by the conflict of interest media lackeys, present company included.

  10. DB55 Says:

Kickers are missing kicks all over the league. Cinn and Wash ended in. A tie bc of missed kicks like 32yarders. And Jan who has made the most FG past 50y missed 2 game winners today. The grass isn’t always greener …

  11. dusthty rhothdes Says:

DallasBuc right on jason licht needs to get the boot there is no rhyme or reason to the crap he is doing trying to prove he is smartest guy in the room, he is a dunderbox, ray charles could see the bucs needed WR and safety help along w edge rushers… licht does NOTHING well draft a K and a reach at Safety anda horrible first round pick this year… so maybe he should go to champaign and hide in lovies basement

  12. Buccaneers Says:

Its been three years and we still can’t kick pats……..the simplest aspect of the game. I can’t blame Licht for using his resources to get us the best option to fill the position……….This is all on Agerayio and how bad he physically sucks. And I’m sorry but they need to do something. Us fans have been subject to nothing but filth for about 15 years now.. The product they are giving us is actually becoming an insult at this point………Find a way to get this bum on IT or something. Conte too, counted 5 missed plays from that scrub today.

  13. Owlykat Says:

If we had the missed extra point we would have won without an overtime despite Winston overthrowing open receivers multiple times. How many losses is Koetter going to tolerate from weak minded Arguyo before he dumps him? I recommended dumping him early this season. Tell Licht to get a proven NFL Kicker. And the Bucs foolishly didn’t move up into the end of the first round and taken Oakland’s Star QB as I recommended we would already been to the playoffs by now.

  14. celly Says:

    Owlykat,

Aguayo’s miss had ZERO outcome on the game.

If Hey Jude hadn’t held a receiver on the opposite side of the field than where the play was happening, we would’ve never gone to overtime.

  15. Mike Seven Says:

First year kickers can have trouble and recover , It has happened many times before , this is good year for him to sort it out, the Bucs are not going to get to playoffs even if kicker was 100% and good from over 60 yards .
The Bucs have a bust QB to be dealing with , forget about kicker and place you eye on the ball in hands of bUST #3

  16. Cobraboy Says:

I’m sorry, but Aguayo is not going to ever get any better.

His form is a complete disaster.

  17. DallasBuc Says:

The lousy kicking makes a huge difference in-game so you can’t say it doesn’t affect the outcome.
The excuse-making for AguaOh,no and his immune benefactor is hitting a fever pitch.
Please, please, please keep trotting this loser out there so we can all finally come to the consensus that should have been reached by the end of the second preseason game, we need a real kicker.
The one and only reason he is still out there on gameday missing kicks is due to the fevered ego of our embarrassed GM that looks like an absolute clown shoe.
    Genug.

  18. BUCS78 Says:

I expect a game or two of those remaining will come down to the points that our kicker must score. The kicker ranked 32nd in the league for FG % is Roberto at 58%. The 31st ranked is at 70%. Roberto is ranked 30th at 87% for extra points. BUCS need to replace Roberto with the best “presently unemployed” kicker. Assuming this kicker performs at the level of 24th ranking (better or equal the bottom 25% of peers) the FG % would be 75% and 92% for extra points.

  19. Eric Says:

What is about loses that make fans post craziness?

Aguayo’s miss had 0 impact on the outcome of the game as Winston and Evans converted the 2 point conversion giving back the missed PAT. This is on the BUCs defense. No clue why the media and fans continue to harp on a rookie, but do as you please. The only game Aguayo affected directly was the RAMS game. His missed PAT and FG would have made TBs last drive completely different in needing only a FG instaed of a TD. Other than that game Aguayo has had 0 to do with all other losses. Accept reality, this defense is horrible, the offense has regressed and the team needs an influx of talent on multiple levels.

While what you say is true in 20/20 hindsight, fact is in the GAME missing kicks is huge. They change the entire game plan and demoralize the rest of the team.

It changes the thinking of the head coach and the QB: “we better make this 3rd down play because our kicker is untrustworthy and we’ll have to consider going for it on 4th down.”

It changes the attitude of the defense: instead of the D starting on the 25, they start closer to midfield with no point cushion.

Conversely, a great kicker is a morale booster for the team: “just get close and we score, guaranteed.”

Dudes are out there bleeding in the dirt for every inch of turf and The Mexican Misfire goes out in his clean uni and misses one.

This is a team sport with certain baseline expectations at each position. Fact is Aguayo is a complete fail regardless of his draft position.

While Aguayo didn’t give up 626 yards, he is responsible for the Bucs being the among worst placekicking games in NFL history. Is he worse than Brindza? Could be.

Aguayo’s mechanics are among the worst of any kicker, right now, I’ve even seen. And I pay very close attention to kickers, as that part of the game was my life for many years. I could tell he was going to miss that PAT when he first started his motion. His shoulders led his hips, got over square and there was no way to follow through in a straight line. His foot went outside-in, rather that behind-forward. AND he jerked his head up before finishing his follow through.

He’s a total mess. He knows it. The coaches know it.

He’s the Dexter Jackson of the 2016 draft class.

  21. Chris Armstrong Says:

Jameis this and Jameis that. Our offense put up 24 points and the game would’ve been won had it not been for a retarded decision by Jude. The offense even overcame a missed PAT by successfully converting two points on the following score. It’s ridiculous to play the blame game in the first place, but to blame the phase that put up almost the same amount of points the saints did to beat the Seahawks and say they were garbage is laughable. Our issues in this particular game lie with the defense and them alone. You can throw ST in there for the missed PAT, but it doesn’t matter how many points you score if your defense can’t stop the opponent from scoring more. End of discussion. Zero pass rush, High School caliber corner coverage, and safeties that, while great tacklers, can’t understand pass defense to Dave their lives. I hate the blame game folks, but if you’re going to play it, put it on the correct personnel.

Everyone just relax, he will turn it around. A lot of pressure on the kid since he is the only one who can score points. This team is such a hot mess right now and rightfully so.

    HEY COBRABOY,
Maybe you should be his coach! your a knuckle head to call the best Kicker in college history the worst kicker in NFL history after only 7 games. Dude relax man and have some stinking patients its not like we are playoff team and he is going to cost us a championship. He is on the right team to get his head straight.

  23. Big HogHaynes Says:

Cut him, cut him now, this team is trying to turn things around, no more time to wast cut him now! But the BACK-STABBER will not cut his PRIZED POSSESSION!

I have experience at several levels and a track record in such matters.

    Do you?

And right now, he is the worst kicker in the NFL, and in the far bottom tier in NFL history. 7 games is a significant body of work for a guy who has to do just two things well.

The Bucs have had numerous rookie kickers who did very, very well.

And for a guy with such accolades coming out of college, he’s clearly forgotten everything he learned, because mechanically he’s a pile of dogSchumer right now.
