“We Can’t Have An Excuse”
October 28th, 2016Joe apologizes for being a bit late on this, but nonetheless, it is cool stuff.
Joe has written so many times about being fed up with this franchise’s inability to develop or obtain a consistent edge rusher. And the one the Bucs had the team let walk away for no good reason, which makes Joe just want to slam dunk his coffee mug on his stone tile floor it p!sses him off so much.
In the cool weekly video feature on Buccaneers.com called “Bucs Rewind,” which offers a lot of neat behind-the-scenes clips from each game, defensive line coach Jay Hayes is caught tongue-lashing players on a lack of production and shedding blocks.
Hayes began his lecture hollering, “We can’t have an excuse!” It is pretty cool stuff. It all begins at the 1:50 mark right here.

That was pretty awesome the team is bonding. And Barber should cry, he overcame and achieved his goals for him and his mother. God bless kid.

NO EXCUSES…..no more”the schedule was too tough…..no more,”we have a rookie hc….no more “be patient it takes time”….NO MORE EXCUSES….
this franchise has the talent, so called gm and so called coaching staff to be successful this year….anything less than 10wins and playoffs is an failure….GO BUCS!!!
October 28th, 2016 at 1:06 pm
Yep fantastic to finally have a coaching staff that actually understands the game and can relate to its players. Still can’t believe Lovie costs his team basically a win because he’s so soft and couldn’t handle MEN who swear and act real. No more flakes and puzzies allowed in that locker room
October 28th, 2016 at 1:22 pm
@maze…that’s dumbest comment I ever heard….you wanna talk about a coach costing his team games….talk about dirk and his poor clock management vs. the rams….or him quitting on the team vs. the broncos…the previous staff is gone….we have a new staff to talk about….
has the bar been set so low that we celebrate and pound our chest after beating 2 that have a combined record of 2-10…wow….
win these 3 games at home and everyone including @bighog can’t deny the improvement…until then looks like were the same ol bucs….hopefully that changes sooner than later….GO BUCS!!!!
October 28th, 2016 at 1:29 pm
@bucboi- the difference so that lovie was a long time head coach who was struggling with basic things like getting the team prepared to play for the opener to keeping qbs under 70% completions. Remember, his 2 big priorities were always play good d and play mistake free football. We had one of the worst defenses and the most undisciplined team in the league under his command. If he easy a new coach, he would have deserved a 3rd year. He was not, showed no ability to adapt and was appropriately let go. Koetter has shown mistakes no doubt, but he is also adapting and making changes it seems. He is right where you expect a head coach who has coached 6 nfl games to be.

Great video. Thanks for the link Joe.
It so good to see a coach like Hayes have the players full attention and respect. Hayes was not asking for better play – he was demanding it. “YES SIR” was the answer. RESPECT!
Love IT! That’s our future DC showing why he’s considered one of the best Dline coaches in the game.
You can see that elusive “team chemistry” starting to become a real and positive factor for our Bucs in that video. Good Stuff
October 28th, 2016 at 2:10 pm
@mojiska….mistake free football?…that tough to do with a rookie qb and 2 rookie olinemen…..play solid defense?….tough to do when you have no pass rush and a defense littered with UDFA….remember week2…dirk did not have this team prepared….
with all the additions we’ve made on defense combined with the fact that dirk was here last year we should be further ahead….we have the same amount of wins this year as we had last year around this time….GO BUCS!!!!
October 28th, 2016 at 2:25 pm
@813bucboi: wait a second. DK wasn’t the head coach last year; Lovie was. Like what planet are you on? DK didn’t have the power of a head coach. Geezy peezy, man!
October 28th, 2016 at 2:32 pm
@DB55…..I have become a huge fan of Barber for what he did. In this generation you see so many selfish acts and here is this kid dropping out of college to take care of his mother. The way he runs and hits the hole is like he is running for her, he was like a rocket on that TD run last week.
October 28th, 2016 at 2:44 pm
813bucboi – It sure sounds like part of you is hoping for failure so you can talk about how this coaching staff isn’t better than the last. Bad fan, Bad fan! Now go sit in the corner and think about what you wrote. Say 50 Hail Bucs for your penance! (Hail Bucs: I Love my Bucs and hope they succeed; I love our coaches and hope they succeed, for only through their wisdom may we reach the promised land!). 50 Hail Bucs, and your anti Bucs thoughts are forgiven!
October 28th, 2016 at 3:11 pm
Hey dreambig, how about 50 Hail Bucs for each of 813’s posts!
BTW. I’m not Catholic, but I got the gist of your idea. Pardon me while I borrow it for responding to future posts.
October 28th, 2016 at 3:26 pm
@orlbucfan….was dirk not on the staff last year?….what an idiot….
@dreambig….I want this TEAM to be successful regardless of the coach….but dirk hasn’t proven anything to be excited about or sing praise…besides beat 2 horrible teams what has he shown….GO BUCS!!!!
October 28th, 2016 at 3:27 pm
BucinJax – Borrow it anytime. Maybe we should use it for all the negitive Nancies who post all the time.
October 28th, 2016 at 3:28 pm
813 – He showed he can beat 2 horrible teams. Its a start!
October 28th, 2016 at 3:29 pm
We are about to see how far along this team is on sunday. Can we defend our home turf? We failed to do so against the Rams, losing a very winnable game. I hope this team has made some real progress.
As far as Koetter v Lovie, Im trying to wait until we played all 16 ges before trying to compare. As a fan though, fingers crossed that we can say Koetter proved to be a real upgrade.
October 28th, 2016 at 3:36 pm
@@LARGOBUC….I 100% AGREE….thats basically all im saying….wait until we play all 16 games before trying to compare….
@dreambig….that mentality is why we are losers…..you and people like you for part of the losing culture….glad to see your so satisfied with beating teams that will be picking in the top 5 of the draft….thats a real confidence booster….GO BUCS!!!!
October 28th, 2016 at 3:37 pm
Dumbest commen?? Look in the mirror bud. I know my football well and understand what happened in that pregame locker room was a major joke that had many shaking there head at that nonsense
October 28th, 2016 at 3:39 pm
Comment… Not everyone is meant to lead men or boys in college either I guess. Go Illinois
October 28th, 2016 at 3:42 pm
Maze are you refering to Lovie cutting off Shep last year? If so you are so right. Let the players get their mind on the task at hand. He had all week to get them prepped for the game. It comes off as… I don’t even know but it’s beyond stupid.
October 28th, 2016 at 3:46 pm
Yes LargoBuc I am. There’s a reason you’ve NEVER heard of that crap before or ever will again I’d bet
October 28th, 2016 at 3:52 pm
@Maze….if you really think not swearing during a pregame can cost a team than you prove me right….you didn’t know football and that is the dumbest comment I ever heard….dirk may let them swear during a pregame speech but does it translate to wins?…..I think not….#dumba$$….GO BUCS!!!!
October 28th, 2016 at 5:01 pm
Oh no need to get so defensive and angry throwing insults. Weird how all but a handful agree but keep on running head first into the walls. š
October 28th, 2016 at 8:18 pm
Ha ha Bucboi – Here is the funny thing, Bucs have won two weeks in a row and for that they are in fact winners. At least for the last two weeks. And by proxy, since I have the ability to enjoy the wins, the last two weeks of my season have been great! You on the other hand are still complaining and seeing a team of losers. So even though they have won you still only see losers in the team and in yourself as a fan of a loser team. Winners see the world with optimisim and hope that tomorrow is a better day. Losers view the world with pesimism and have no hope for the future. Which camp are you in?
October 28th, 2016 at 10:14 pm
dreambig….he’s in this camp and has been in this camp for most of his posts since hooking up to JBF…he’s a fraud is what he is….
813bucboi Says :
“anything less than 10wins and playoffs is an failureā¦.GO BUCS!!!”
Then follows up with….

“@@LARGOBUCā¦.I 100% AGREEā¦.thats basically all im sayingā¦.wait until we play all 16 games before trying to compareā¦.”
WHAT???
Dude you’re already comparing right now. Anything less than 10 wins and the playoffs is a failure. Did you expect that from Lovie Smith too? 10 wins or he was a failure? Each of HIS 2 SEASONS?
Why are your expectations so high for Koetter and his young crew? I know I won’t get an answer if I was in here when you posted this rubbish. Don’t be a fraud…unfortunately that’s what you are.

The addition of Jay Hayes was one of the best moves this team made in the off-season. Considering the win in Carolina with four starters out on the defensive line, is a testament to him to how well he coaches by having the back-up players ready for that game. I love the intensity he showed in the video. He achieved what he asked for which is results. 15 QB pressures against San Francisco is what we will need to beat the Raiders Sunday. Even though the combined record of the last two teams we beat are 2-10, we beat a good Falcon team in a division away game. We should have beat a very good Rams team and we were in both the Denver and Arizona games in the first halfs until turnovers killed any chance of coming back. The Raiders are not better than those three teams.
October 29th, 2016 at 7:01 pm
Jay Hayes is our next DC. We are lucky to have this guy. Overall this is one of the best coaching staffs in the league in my opinion. Still some key peices this team needs but they are headed for being a feared and well respected team. Growing pains will be inevitable. Playoffs would be great this year but I really see them developing into a contender withing the next 2 to 3 seasons
October 30th, 2016 at 2:48 am
@1987: I for sure would have expected 9 wins from LOVIE this season, going from last to first U.S. Not the norm in this league, for as we see LOVIE came to a crappy very crappy team! He then went on to build a foundation here that many will deny, because basically he didn’t win enough games (and I agree), COACH K continues to build (which is what a winning team does on a year to year basis) progress has been made on the offensive side but I expected that being that we’re in the second season under COACH K. I’m thinking of last year we were 6-6 and then the bottom fell out…,so yes I where would have expected 9 wins from LOVIE this year had he been retained! So now those expectations fall in COACH K, so let’s get on with the season and see where we are! GO BUCS, GO COLIN, STEP-UP AMERICA!!
October 30th, 2016 at 2:54 am
going from last to first is not the norm////those expectations fall on^^^^^^ sorry my bad!
