Kwon Gets Major Assist
October 26th, 2016Pretty cool nugget here about the growth and execution of Kwon Alexander, the Bucs’ 22-year-old middle linebacker and defensive shot-caller.
Cornerbacks coach Jon Hoke hit the Buccaneers Radio Network airwaves Monday and, of course, was asked about the huge blitz-sack-fumble by nickel cornerback “Hey” Jude Adjei-Barimah on Colin Kaepernick.
Adjei-Barimah blasted him on his blindside and it was a huge play in the Bucs’ blowout victory. Hoke noted the play doesn’t happen if Kwon doesn’t recognize the changed formation by the 49ers and call the check to the blitz.
“It all starts with Kwon Alexander making the check and seeing the formation and recognizing it, and getting that communicated across the board,” Hoke said, emphasizing how challenging it can be do get a defense on the same page in a few seconds.
It seems the jelling of the Bucs’ defense is happening. Joe hopes that tightness can overcome the pass rush issues of the front-four.

Yes!!!! Coach Smitty has been doing an outstanding job having to cover up the huge weakness of the D-line!!! Just heard how on that play that they showed a blitz and the 49’ers brought protection and how KA58 recognized it and gave the green licht for JAB38 to come and bring it!!!!! This is why the Incompetent one is gone!!!!! Defense is coming along!!!!!! few pieces and we might have something!!!!! But first, a huge test against the Raiders Prolific offense!!!
Go America!!!!
And Go BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a fun play to watch happen live. Kwon was visible yelling at Jude to move over right before the snap…

Keep it going. We’re building a winner. You just have to look at the young players in key positions on this team. The team will click and it’s only a matter of time at this point.
I have faith, no matter how weak our opponents were or were not.
Hell I still say they are going to the SB next season. Nothing’s changed for me on that front.
Go Kwon and Go Bucs!
Oh yeah…Realist too…Go Buc Realist!

Bad teams or not, this defense is absolutely improving week to week. Get starters back on dline and watch pass rush improve dramatically. I’m excited for the future.
October 26th, 2016 at 10:41 am
Yes!!!! I saw Kwon motion Jude to get back on the LOS tight right before the snap, obviously now telling him to go blitz. This is why football intelligence is so key, and why I’m glad we have Kwon!

Based on sacks/pass attempt Bucs currently sit at 11th…have been inconsistent at times but have relied on UFA rookies to weather injury storm….should only improve!

I love stories like this. Behind the scenes of one play. We would never had known what happened pre-snap.
More stuff like this Joe 👍🏼

the legend of kwon continues…..GO BUCS!!!!

overcome the pass rush issues of the front-four.
I love the “tightness” of our back seven as much as anybody but how about this?
How about we simply remove the pass rush issue and get a freaking rush.
It’s not out of the question. GMC had a good game hopefully his health can continue to improve. Noah Spence is starting to look like the guy we hoped for when we drafted him…hopefully his shoulder continues to heal..he’s starting to blossom. Hopefully Ayers gets back healthy along with McDonald.
We still have the ingredients for an effective pass rush if we can ever put it all together. I’d love to see how these guys play if they were all healthy at the same time.

@StpeteBucsfan
“If” healthy is the biggest if in football, “IF” all were healthy, mark dominik might have beent the best gm for the Bucs instead of the WORST GM in Buc History!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go America
And Go Bucs!!!!!!

Hey Joe!
Maybe it would be nice to watch the “Film Session” feat. Anthony Becht at Bucs website.
He shows it clearly the exact moment when Kwon “communicated across the board”.
Thanks for your Bucs’ coverage!

Joe,
What’s the deal with Jon Banks? Any chance you could ask Smith during his PC? It’s just hard for me to believe that Jude is a better player than banks. I don’t get what’s going on there or why.

No wonder Vegas has got this one at even. DK vs. JackDR. Both pretty good offensive minded HCs. Only difference is DR is a veteran HC. When Kwon, LVD and GMC go crazy like they did at home earlier this year…it was the game where those 3 played lights out together….Carr won’t know what hit him. Grimes, Hey Jude and VHIII are getting on the same page now. Guys like Crabtree will definitely test them. I still want to know what’s up w/Banks? Smith cutting him? This game could end up being one of the classics played here. Go Bucs!!

@DB55: you read my mind re: J. Banks. 🙂
October 26th, 2016 at 12:30 pm
Shut down the Oakland offense, or at least contain them, then we can talk about our defense improving, injuries on Dline are a great excuse, but it’s actually makes our GM look bad, because every single Bucs fan screamed the our D line needed depth, and old/injury prone, same thing about our WRs corps, beating 2 backup caliber subpar teams does not signal a defensive renaissance, however I will admit it’s a step forward from last years historically bad defense, just keep you hopes tempered until we beat a real team
October 26th, 2016 at 12:32 pm
Backup caliber QBs I meant
October 26th, 2016 at 1:03 pm
There are no bad NFL teams, just teams that get beat by other teams that are playing better on that day and have better preparation. There is also a bit of luck stirred in there as well.
October 26th, 2016 at 3:37 pm
Great job Kwon! Coach Smitty might just be onto something here. It’s been fun to watch the last couple of games.
BTW DB55 and orl, why would you question the coaches decision to play Hey Jude ahead of Banks? Clearly they see a different player than what you guys envision. Is it because he was a high draft pick? Because if he was better, he would be playing. IMO
October 26th, 2016 at 7:34 pm
Johnthan Banks is not better than Jude or he would be playing. Brent Grimes is playing lights out, Hargreaves is improving each game and is solid. Jude Adjei-Barimah has been the surprise this year. After taking over for Alterraun Verner he won’t look back. Since Banks can’t play Safety, I don’t see him breaking into this line-up this year baring injuries. Even Bradley McDougald has been playing very well in coverage and against the run. The secondary is night and day better than last year. They are only giving up 58% of passes thrown against them compared to 70% last year. When you combine the coverage in the secondary with the pass rush produced vs the Niners, this defense can be a top ten defense. They pressured the Niners 15 times, sacked Kaepernick four times, batting away two passes and additionally forcing him to scramble from the pocket on six occasions. GMC was back in All-Pro form with six pressures, one sack, batting away one pass and recording three run stops. If Robert Ayers and Clinton McDonald return Sunday, The Raiders are going to be in for a surprise.

WHERE IS BUCNUTZ? HE WANTED TO ARGUE WITH ME ON SUNDAY WHEN I SAID KWON CHECKED TO THIS BLITZ. AND I WAS RIGHT OF COURSE
