Far Too Long
October 17th, 2016The pass defense of the Bucs has been terribly woeful the past couple of years.
In fact, a common NFL stat hasn’t been accomplished since the administration of former Bucs commander Greg Schiano.
Last week, the Bucs had two picks against Carolina. Tampa Bay has not had two consecutive games of two or more picks since Schiano led the Bucs in 2013, when the Bucs had four straight games of two or more picks late in that season.
Speaking of takeaways, the Bucs had four last week — superb work by Mike Smith’s defense. The Bucs have not had back-to-back games of four or more takeaways since the last playoff season. That’s when Chucky prowled the sidelines in 2007.

Schiano is a great defensive coach and had the bucs humming but he was too mean to g mcoy and a few others and of course #5 and his meltdown

Once this franchise knocks off the HC musical chairs, we might finally have some stability = a decent football team again. Go Tampa Bay!!

I hear that defense wins championships. Right now I’ll settle for some exciting, turnover free, offense. Let’s have some positive excitement while the defense eventually builds us into being competitive with the big boys. I don’t want to return to winning by only scoring 9 points. However, seeing Kwon, LVD, Ayers, Spence, Grimes, and VH3 flash now and then would be great, too.

@Dusthty- I think you’re thinking of Winslow that he was too mean to. Either way, Schiano should’ve been given another year or 2. I thought our defense was starting to come together then.

If Schiano was even a decent head coach he would have had other opportunities!
He is never mentioned in connection with NFL jobs because MEN not KIDS play professional ball and they do not respond to drill sergeants!
He was an awful tactician losing the game in Seattle when he took his foot off the accelerator and shut down MG8 in the hurry up that was working so well.
Schiano is a living example of the Peter Principle in the football and he has now reached his peak…a defensive coordinator at college program that will provide him with the best talent in the land. I could freaking coach OSU’s D through about 8 of their games…OSU’s 3rd stringers are better than Purdue, Indiana, Illinois first stringers.
Again if he was all that why did his name NEVER pop up in NFL coaching talk?
Why couldn’t he get a good HC gig in the NCAA?

Give the D some time they may turn the corner. Dallas D looks 1000x better than it did 3 years ago. If Smith is here in 3 is a diff question. Some say he’ll be in Jax by years end. Idk

SPBF…as far as Schiano and head coaching goes. I say give it some time. Hell even Lovie got a job again. Quicker than Schiano, but he did get one. I think Greg will land one in college somewhere and soon.

I will take Coach Schiano any day over coach my scheme!!! simple as that!!!

Schiano would be the bomb D.C.
Schiano the type of coach that will headbutt you even though you have your helmet on.
Schiano the type of coach that gets so fired up he grabs your face mask and starts yelling at you as spit flies all over your face and inside your helmet.
Schiano wears Bike shorts and K-Swiss sneakers to practice. Lmao 😂😭☠️

LMAO…OK 87 and Realist…I said Schiano was mediocre and a poor NFL not NCAA coach but I NEVER said he wasn’t as good as Lovie. Actually I think they both suffered from similar issues of control and playing to not lose rather than win.
And 87 I would not disagree with you that Urban has set up Schiano for a nice gig somewhere. In fact I would not be shocked if Schiano is the heir apparent to Urban.
Urban won’t go that much longer..he’s made his bones and his health has always been suspect. I do not know the AD situation at OSU but if the current guy retires I wouldn’t be surprised to see Urban take a cushy OSU AD position and Schiano move up to HC.
Realist I do not disagree with your take at all. In fact that’s part of my point.
Lovie was such a disaster here that it created fond memories of Schiano in comparison.
I think we have a professional team in charge of the Bucs right now…from Licht to Koetter to Smitty to Hayes to Moncken and others on the staff.
BTW did we see how much kickers influence the game. Carolina has now lost three games on game ending kicks…including the killer when Gano missed a very makeable kick in Denver. I just wonder how differently the Panthers season might have gone if Gano makes that kick and the Panthers beat the SB champs in their own house.

Urban and his ghost health problems…the only health problem urban liar has is a case of cant beat sabanitis every year….lets go the big ten and maybe play one game a year to get to the championship…but now harbaugh changed that I think….urban may end up at notre dame soon, Im not sure schiano hits ohio state, but he definitely will get a college HC job soon, lots of openings, he definitely can recruit, not sure if schiano would make it at LSU, Texas, USC or Auburn, but he will get a shot somewhere, wish he got one more year here but thats history so go koetter!!

I liked Schiano, big surprise since me and St Pete disagree on everything. I believe he was railroaded out by the hypersensitive pantywaists Buc fans , especially the McCoy and Freeman apologists. He hasn’t gotten another NFL job because he did things differently than the stoic by the unwritten rule types like Tom Coughlin. Bellechek was a big beleiver in Schiano, and I believe he’s forgotten a lot more about football than many of you will ever know. Coincidently he got some of the best performances ever by some of the Bucs who are still on this roster. I also believe that if he had a QB with a head on his shoulders like Winston, he would still be here, and some of the content with losing players wouldn’t .

Say what you want the man took the worst run defense to the best run defense in one offseason. I know the difference between “why run when you could just pass”. No teams passed because they couldn’t Because the Bucs could tackle under him. All those D Line slants, twists etc were hard to pick up in the run game. Olineman couldn’t reach the second level. That’s why LVD was lights out under him it freed him up to wreak havoc in the backfield.
Even the mediocre cowboys D line is successful adopting this philosophy. They can’t run it down your throat but you can’t do the same against them. But schiano definitely had his share of head scratching moments not continuing to run the no huddle because we didn’t practice it immediately comes to mind. But when he said we don’t have the ability to get pressure thats why we stunt so much has also stuck with me.

I think a big reason Schiano was fired was due to how high expectations were going into 2013. That team had some talent to work with, esp on defense, and the whole thing was a mess. It was a bit unfair, as there were factors out of his control. But I guess ownership didn’t have faith in Schiano, Dom and Glennon to win in this league. I do think, however, that had Schiano gotten another year that there’s a good chance Aaron Donald or Khalil Mack are wearing red and pewter on Sundays.

I like this Chris guy, he actually has a clue. You must not be a “real Bucs fan”. Kudos to you sir, kudos indeed.

I like you too DB, even if we may disagree on Jameis. But we do have the same agreement on who’s passionate on this team and who isn’t

Surprised tom coughlin didn’t B!+(# slap him for that play on the kneel down. Lol
October 17th, 2016 at 4:35 pm
DB and Chris need a room. And they can get a great deal on a one night only during the week at the Tampa Bay Jolly Roger bed and breakfast. One night for $55.00 just mention “Lovie dovis smith” at check in.
