“We Just Haven’t Played Good Football”

Yes, there is frustration in the Buccaneers’ locker room.
No surprise, or perhaps it is surprising, depending on what you think of this Bucs team and its effort.
Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network this week, guard Ali Marpet talked about what’s gnawing on his football mind, outside of the standings.
“I think what’s frustrating. … There are flashes for us. We can see what we’re capable of. But we just haven’t played good football. That’s pretty much it,” Marpet said. “We’re capable of playing solid football, complementary football, as Donovan [Smith] said. But it hasn’t been there yet. Again, we’ve shown flashes of it. And we can even do it against one of the best defenses in the league at times. But you need to play an entire game to be consistent. We haven’t done that yet.”
Ahh, inconsistency. It is troubling that the Bucs are seeing so much of it on offense, considering much of the offense has returned — same playcaller, quarterback, receivers, etc.
But that’s also the greatest reason Joe has hope that the ship will be righted. Now consistency won’t fix Father Time catching up to Vincent Jackson, or Doug Martin’s hamstring, but it can rectify a lot of the other ills of the offense.

We still have a lot of young players in key positions.
Our team leaders on offense and defense are both just 2nd year players.
As of Sunday Kwon has 16 games of NFL experience….Marpet…Smith..Pamphile..Jameis…Brate…Hump all ditto.
With youth and inexperience comes inconsistency.

People are only going to get angry when these high expectations are not met!! And some around here want to be angry!!!! The “real” core of the team is extremely young!!! Talented but young, and that does not add up to consistent performances that lead to records of high wins. The Buc Realist would be very Happy to see a 10 win season, surprised, but very happy!!!

Reading all your posts since the Lovie era has passed makes me realize just how correct you were about Lovie. Those were all solid takes that I didn’t want to see but you were right.
I don’t think I saw the light until last year’s opening game against the Titans.
That was one of the worst coaching jobs I have ever seen.

We have not played good football. Really Mr. Marpet..Really?? Say it ain’t so. Why Buc Realist and his host of Joe’s cronies, said you guys were gonna be giant killers under your new command all summer/trng camp/ and preseason.
Well, Mr Marpet, start playing good football. Your team can start in Charlotte, NC on Monday night. You are either headed towards 2-3 or 1-4. Cut out all of the Coulda/Woulda/Shoulda and win some GD games!

This team is STILL 7-9 or 8-8 at best.
I mentioned it myself a few weeks ago… about them being a YOUNG team in KEY positions. Not just the offense either.
I’m going to watch this season play out first before I put any dirt over anyone. Those that are doing so are making me laugh behind the scenes. There’s lot’s out there doing so too. YOU MAKE ME LAUGH!
The season is YOUNG and the team is YOUNG. Buc-kle up kids!

and it was much more than a coaching problem!!! He had his hand in free-agency, he hand picked two coordinators that one did not make it to the season and the other was demoted at the end of the season!!!! That is not consistency!!!!!
We are taking some lumps right now as they clean up the mess!!!!! But the clean up has commenced and the Bucs will be better for it!!!!!!!!

StPete … Almost everyone on JBF ends up being right sooner or later, even Mike Johnson. Our Bucs are “talented but young” as Realist states. Problem is … We’ve been young since we won the SB in 2002 and the Glazers purged the roster. Coaching carousels (5 HCs in 14 yrs?) have led to extremely poor player development (and yes, 3 GMs in that period haven’t helped matters any). Ali Marpet made a very valid point when he spoke of ‘consistency’ … Bucs haven’t shown that in any way since the SB win. It takes good player selection AND good coaching to develop those players, and we simply haven’t had that. Lovie wasn’t the right HC to develop those young players (his coaching staff was mediocre at best). But Dirk Koetter is (he’s brought on some outstanding assistant coaches in my opinion). We’ve got to be patient and hopefully we’ll see growth in this team THIS YEAR from week to week.

If I am Head Coach Koetter, I am using this as a coachable moment!!! I am telling my team that this is a “Simulated Playoff Run”!!!!! The Goal is 3 to 4 wins against the top teams in the NFL!!!!! I am telling them that 2 more quarters of good football in these games and 2 more plays in these games and that is the goal!!!!
Can’t wait to watch this team regroup after the bye-week!!! There are 12 more games to play to show resiliency and growth!!!!! This team is still learning the systems and will be getting some players back!!!!!

I have several disappointments so far in the construction of this team that could have been addressed.
First of all, we had the cap space to bring in another safety and a WR with speed…..we didn’t do that.
I realize the drafting of a kicker was a long-term decision but it would be nice to have two young position players.
We have had some unfortunate injuries like Sweezy, Johnson, Smith, Ayers, , Stocker, Martin and now Spence.
The ASJ meltdown & exit didn’t help.
Although, it’s hindsight we could have put the $10mil invested in Vjax to better use and the $6 mil on Verner seems to be a waste.
Many of these decisions are on Licht…..as I don’t think Koetter has been strongly involved with personnel.

Pablo…it doesn’t really matter. Perhaps the fans need to boo, but they need to boo from RJS and make it known.
Jameis tends to appreciate dissatisfaction by the masses.
I don’t know, but many of you need to relax a little bit on the kid. The kid.

Patience is the best virtue in life and in football. Buc fans already have the waiting game down. It’s not like this outcome is anything new. Good things come to those who wait eventually. Or you can switch allegiance to a present winner. Hold on Buc fans!

You’ve followed #3 far longer than me…well just two years more..lol.
But I think you’re absolutely correct. #3 will use this as motivation. Unlike some of our fans he’s not about to give up on himself or this team.
Not that #3 needs any more motivation…but again that which doesn’t break us makes us stronger. I don’t see #3 breaking anytime soon.

Everyone who’s been listening knows this is a young team. We need time. I like Licht’s idea of building through the draft if it wasn’t for that extremely moronic trade into the 2nd last year. I also like the idea of bridge players but that doesn’t mean we can just bring in older players with names to teach our young guys. We need some good middle aged players in FA also

Please somebody tell the the damn truth, this team was young last year and the year before that, REALIST please stop with your back/peddling & tap/dancing, you’ve been “EXPOSED” as a dimwit, getting rid of LOVIE and adding this NEW ALL/WORLD/STAFF has not made us look like a work in progress, instead we look like “A-TRAIN” wreak! So much for “COACHING THE LOVIE OUT OF THEM” your gonna need a new moniker something like the truth! REALIST SAYS: “We changed coaching, schemes and we have regressed”!
