Harsh words from one of the biggest supporters of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
The film don’t lie.
Yes, Joe has cringed too many times this season watching the All-22 film of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. He’s been consistently inconsistent.
Trent Dilfer has seen it. The former Buccaneers quarterback and Ravens Super Bowl hero even hangs a lot of the Bucs’ 37-32 loss last Sunday on Jameis.
That’s what Dilfer explained on WDAE-AM 620 this week. The Bucs had the Rams on the ropes late in the first half, per Dilfer, ready for a knockout blow before Jameis cost them dearly.
That quick toss in the left flat inexcusably bobbled by Charles Sims? The one that led to an interception deep in Bucs territory and let the Rams back in the game? Dilfer says it was all on Jameis.
Dilfer says Jameis “clearly screwed up” with a bad audible and a subsequent wrong decision.
“That’s on him,” Dilfer said. “That’s not on Sims. You don’t throw a flat route to wheat we call a cloud corner with no vertical stretch on the corner. That’s quarterback 101. And Jameis, one, audibled into the play and then he saw the defense audible. [So] he knows now he’s got to have a different solutions, whether it’s re-check the play or throw it somewhere else.”

Regardless of Dilfer’s commentary, Jameis does need to put the Bucs on his back today against Denver or one week from Monday at Carolina. A four-game losing streak after winning opening day must be avoided. A true franchise QB has to make that happen.

Dilfer….yes I want to have another Trent Dilfer in his prime over Jameis Winston.

It will always be on Jameis. it’s ok. He knows it and will be the first to admit it. even if it’s on someone else Jameis will take the blame. Bucs 23 Broncos 17

@SB, my company cleans the roofs of a lot of pro athlete’s and coaches. We were cleaning the tile roof of a coach from USF, who went on to LSU. He was good friends with Tony Dungy. I asked him why our offense was so simple and predictable under Tony Dungy. He told me because Trent Dilfer could not remember all the plays, and this forced them to oversimplify the playbook.
So much for Dilfer being Cerebral
This also shows what a class act Tony Dungy was. He took the blame for his simplified offense, rather then throw Dilfer under the bus.

The great thing about Jameis is, he probably agrees with Dilfer 100%.
Another great thing about Jameis is he doesn’t often make the same mental mistakes twice.
If you’re smart, you’ll learn much more from mistakes than from success. In spite of the fact that Jameis went to FSU, he’s a very smart guy and I’m sure that these mistakes are all just growing pains that will make him a better QB in the future.

Trust the process
Jameis is learning and processing all the good and bad experiences
He is only 22 years and should be a senior in college
In 2 years his mental game with match his golden arm
From 2018 to 2030…superbowls will have to go thru JABOO

So I guess Shawn King and Brad Johnson were too stupid as well?
Tony Dungy had a vanilla offense because he didn’t think offense was important. He was content with scoring 15 points by field goals and having his defense hold.
If he had any other QB in Indianapolis he’d have employed the same strategy there as well.
Dilfer has problem isn’t that he’s not smart enough. He had horrendous accuracy and was terrible under pressure.

How many people can say just a couple of years removed from college that they are experts in their professional careers? Waiting………..crickets. We all get better with experience and the NFL is not the NCAA. He is still young and will learn each and every week. He will become a much better QB in his mental awareness. Accuracy however is what I get concerned about. I do not think that can be coached or get better with time. I really like Winston and hope he becomes what we all who support him want and that is the franchise QB that we have always lacked. Franchise QB needs to be an earned title and I think it was just given to him too early without earning it. Yes he is a great leader and has been so far a very dedicated and hard worker who has stayed out of trouble since being a Buc, but he needs to lead us to more victories than losses and sustain that for his career to be an elite franchise QB. Lets go Jameis!!! You can be great and we all hope you do reach your potential. He is just still a very young NFL QB and needs time to refine his game at this level. And for the love of all things good, please lets get him some more weapons to work with moving forward. No QB in the league would have too much success with the wideouts we are working with right now and a rushing game that is not getting the job done. Not even going to get started on the defense or not so special teams. Go Bucs!!! Most of the country will be able to watch this game and national audience next week against the stinking Panthers and I just hope we are competitive at least and do not get embarrassed.

Glad Joe is reigning in his praise of Jameis as yes a “true franchise QB” would not endure multiple 4 game losing streaks in less than 2 years. True franchise QB’s stop streaks like that. Bad decisions and turnovers are what Jameis is known for to be a true franchise guy he’s gotta play a clean game in the next two weeks to give his team a chance

I wasn’t aware that we were being offered a choice.
Dilfer wasn’t a great QB, and he is only slightly better as a media guy…but in this instance he is right. And you know what? Jameis Winston would tell you Dilfer is right.

Jameis will be fine. He’s only in his second year of this offense. He’s still developing too. By mid season, she should be lighting it up…just like the rest of the team.

@Chris@AppleRoof: I will believe you had a conversation with a former player/coach about Dilfer, but come on man. Dungy’s offenses were bad. Dilfer was part of the problem as well, but the ONLY reason Dilfer still holds a job with ESPN is because he is smart at analyzing players and games. No need to knock his analysis just because he criticized the golden child. Winston is Dilfer’s golden child too.

Ndog- his tw turnovers resulted in 14 points for the other team. He was 8 turnovers in 3 games. I can’t remember his last turnover free game.

Dating back to last year Jameis has faced 8 good defenses for 7 of the last 8 games.
there has been only game where he regrouped and got his confidence back.
Said before it is on Koetter to make Jameis more comfortable in the pocket
through max protect or blocking schemes.Jameis is stressed and making inaccurate throws.Time for team to pull together and help Jameis through
this. If jameis uncorks for early scores it would really help his confidence.
This is the toughest challenge he has ever faced. Hope ha has a respectable game. Go Bucs.

You lost me at Trent Dilfer. Can we ask what Vinny Testaverse thinks? Maybe Jeff Carlson or Casey Weldon have a take? Is Jack Thompson still alive?
i believe Dilfer was the worst of all Bucs QBs. Ever. Of all time. Worse than the bums listed in the previous paragraph. Worse than Spurrier, Gradkowski, McCown, Chandler, Rattay, or Zeier.
Please don’t ever quote Trent Dilfer again on these pages.
