Bucs great Keyshawn Johnson dives deep into Jameis and Sunday’s Bucs-Rams matchup
Former Bucs great Keyshawn Johnson is now a morning sports radio host in Los Angeles, and he had plenty, plenty, plenty to say about Sunday’s Bucs-Rams matchup this week.
Speaking on 710 AM in L.A., Keyshawn explained that there’s so much on film now representing how and why America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, fails. Plenty to study, he said, and Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is a veteran master at confusing QBs.
Keyshawn believes Williams, the Super Bowl–winning coordinator with the Saints and a guy who previously led Oilers/Titans defenses for Jeff Fisher, as well as two playoff defenses for the Joe Gibbs’ Redskins, is highly underrated.
Keyshawn said he’s confident Williams will be dialing up all kinds of different looks for Jameis to get him thinking too much.
“There’s going to be some confusion,” Keyshawn said. “He’s going to confuse him. There’s going to be some, at times, hectic moments on Jameis’ part to try to figure out how to get his offfense going. It’s all about confusion with a young quarterback.”
No Doug Martin? No problem, says Keyshawn.
“[Rushing] attempts for me are more important,” Keyshawn said, emphasising that if Dirk Koetter stays committed to grinding out 30-plus carries against the Rams, then that will neutralize Williams’ approach a bit and make Jameis more effective.
About 3 1/2 yards a carry for a sustained Bucs running game, Keyshawn said, should be enough to put the Bucs in position to beat an impotent Rams offense.

I hope Keyshawn is wrong and Koetter finds a way to help Jameis get rid of the ball quickly. JW can’t keep looking like he did last week in Arizona or we will be lucky to win 6 games this year. They had me believing we were a 10 win team this year after ALL the sacks in the preseason AND then that game in Atlanta. Not even sure we can beat the Rams at this point. Go BUCS!

Keyshawn is right, rushing attempts are going to be the biggest factor.
If we can have a mediocre or better rushing game, Jameis will be fine. If we’re averaging less than 3 yards a carry and only have 15 – 20 attempts total, it’s going to be a long day for our offense and probably a loss.
Of course Jameis could surprise everyone and just be playing lights out on point with lasers all day. But I think the Rams will have solid pressure all game long which will affect our young QB, UNLESS we can run the ball of course.

Strider … Not so sure that Jameis will ‘carve up that defense’ but if he can avoid turnovers we’ll have a decent chance of winning. Not sure that Bucs will have 30 rushing attempts like Keyshawn was mentioning, but wouldn’t be surprised to see us in the 20-25 range. Our defense will be the key to this game I think. Hold them to a touchdown and a couple of field goals and we should win I think. Folks talk about the Rams pressuring Jameis, but I think Bucs pressuring Keenum is equally important.

It’s not just the Rams, or a good defense, but a decent to strong run game will always help JW a lot.
He thrives off the play-action, and obviously only allowing a defense to rush 4 or 5 guys, versus 6, will help him play great.

Big stinky im about tired of your crap, Jameis was not that bad last week the first pick should not have been if Evans tries for the ball, the second one was a bad throw but Vjax didnt ever get his head around either. The third one hit Simms in the hands, the fumble was knocked out by Simms and the last pick was a freaking hail mary. That is what happens when you have a qb trying to come back with slow receivers a back up runningback and a defense giving up bombs with 36 seconds to go in the first half. The fact that you let the preseason defense make you think we were going to a high sack team shows you should just stop watching football. If you don’t believe we can beat the Rams then bye bye and go somewhere else to try to learn football.

Been watching this team underachieve for WAY too long now. Jameis was off the whole game last week and I’m glad you think the Rams are going to be SO easy to beat. Jameis couldn’t even throw a slant pattern last week, but you go ahead and make excuses for him. He’s just NOT that accurate, that’s it!

we need to go no huddle to slow down the rams rush
our recievers cant get open and separate by themselves …we need to go no huddle to confuse and get them open that way
tomorrow will be the emergence of Jacquizz rodgers
run and pass attack the edge all game for jacquizz
if we lose tommorrow, our season is lost. no veteran leadership to right the ship. We lose our fan support tommorrow if we lose

Did I once say they are so easy to beat? I didn’t think so but of you think the are a good football team then football is not your sport. Also on the accuracy it is much more difficult to be accurate when no one is ever open and we have no running game. People like you is why QB’s are given up on so quickly as you don’t see the big picture. Do you notice the Patriots and what they are doing regardless who the qb is? That is because they are running the ball well, playing good defense and the receivers can actually get yards after the catch. We are putting 100 on the qb then blaming him when he is not perfect, that is crap and you would think by now we would know better.

This team gives up on players before I do, just like with Glennon. All of the people on the JW bandwagon had me believing he was better than he was, or is. You are either accurate or you’re NOT. They can either make the throws or they can’t. Hell, Carson Wentz looks better than Winston did in his first 2 games but who cares. We have Winston and he has to get better, he has got potential but he has to work on his accuracy. He shouldn’t be missing wide open receivers like ME13 in the end zone in the Atlanta game. Can’t wait until tomorrow to see how he plays against the Rams, hopefully better. Go BUCS!

Yeah 4000 yards as a rookie in the NFL is just simply inaccurate and garbage. Your right Glennon is much better after all he threw for well over what Winston did. Oh wait no he didn’t in fact he wasn’t even close but he won more games as a rookie. Oh wait no he didn’t but none of that matters as Winston is total crap. Dude Wentz beat Cleveland and a Chicago team that lost half their team to injury during that game so all philly had to do was through short safe throws. Don’t get me wrong I actually like Wentz but you saying he looks better than Jameis is just another example of oh look that shiny object is brighter than mine, I want it I want it.

trying to run on the Rams falls right into the Fisher trap. He’s tempting Bucs to try to run. Running more times, just cause stats say they should is fools game. They would love to see the Bucs running on first and second down, they know they can stop Sims and force Jaemis into high stress/pressure where they know Winston doesn’t do well right now. Koetter will need to game plan much better than last year minus Dougie and the game plan failed miserably last year. Get Chuck space and in the passing game right away will drop that backer (Barron) off the line and into coverage and we know he fails there, 10 yards from the LOS is Barron strong suit. Winston channeling a west coast hybrid will work great here, he needs to move the chains with patience and dink dunkery al la Gruden and will give Winston another tool in the tool box, but if Koetter thinks just letting Winston be Winston this time is just bad coaching.

N-Dog is right–1st one was a perfect throw to ME who got “blinded” by the light slowing down to look for it, 2nd was on VJ who didn’t run the route clean, 3rd one was tipped by cardinal then tipped again by Sims. 4th was a hail mary–sort of a wtf throw.
Cardinals played on fire and they are one of the best teams, still wish we could of rattled palmers bones over and over.

The screen game and shorter routes are going to need to be emphasized this game. The Rams do have a good front 7. So loosening up the defense with short routes and some quick play action passes might help keep the defense back and not so smothering on the run game.
I would also like to see Koetter calling plays that get WRs open. We can’t just rely on Evans to get open with his natural talent, we need to get more production from Jackson and Brate in this game. Jackson looks like he can’5 beat one on one match ups. Design some plays and route combinations to help him beat coverage. Can’t just rely on him or any of our guys getting open on their own. Koetter needs to find his inner Bill Belichick and make the scheme work for the players.

Funny how Jameis is Offensive player of the week on week 1, throws for over 4K yards in his rookie year, threw for 4 TDs against Atl, and now after a bad game, there is now so much film out there on why he fails and is easily confused. We are still 1-1, tied for first place. We still have a franchise QB with a great arm, great leadership skills, and a great future. Funny how the haters pounce when given the slightes provocation. FSU rose from the ashes like a Phoenix yesterday and so will the Bucs! The key to todays game is how does the entire team respond to getting punched in the mouth last week. Do they get up and fight or is their confidence shaken and they come out scared.

The verdict on Aguayo will take a while to determine…just as with any rookie.
But this is a game when I love having a 2nd round draft pick determining our fate.
And so in a game like this who will be more impactful? Another WR…or the guy who decides the contest with the game on the line.
This is a two parter for me. First is a great kicker worth a 2nd round pick. DUH
Of course. Which 2nd rounder on this team will more directly decide this contest than a guy who actually puts points on the board and may literally decide this game. I do not get you guys ripping a 2nd round selection.
The 2nd part is still unknown. Is Aguayo a great kicker? He was in college let’s hope it transfers to the pros. But if the game comes down to a last second kick as this one could very well do…wouldn’t it be nice to have “money” in the bank with someone like Vinateri or Janikowski?

We still have a running game with Charles Sims and watch for Jacquizz Rodgers to get some playing time. Noah Spence gets his first start and look for him to make plays. Winston will play well today and control the game. ts not like last years game, Bremt Grimes, Vernon Hargreaves and Alterraun Verner will make things much more difficult for the Rams to complete their passes.
